Trevor Basin, Off Station Road, Trevor, Wrexham LL20 7TY, Leek
Pontcysyllte Aqueduct & Trevor Basin Visitor Centre - Visitor centre in Leek, United Kingdom
Highest in uk. Went across on canal boat. There is a firm giving rides 10 quid per person. Visit the little shop. Study the area walked under it. Walked to viewing point. Walked across it. Glad Ive seen it. Brilliant on sunny day .. but must be awful in summer season on narrow path.
Some nice areas to walk around the aqueduct and of course you can walk across it too. Paths were clearly marked and theres sign posts guiding you.Great views all around from upon the aqueduct and you can find some nice views from below too. Great short walk!
Walking across the aqueduct was delightful the scenery is beautiful, lovely little museum and shop.Cafe 2 minutes away in the old Chapel absolutely delicious food
Lovely way to spend a couple of hours in the countryside on a graceful barge, (with the odd bump, but not the drivers fault apparently!), the aqueduct makes for a stunning finale. I had a prosecco followed by afternoon tea which was really lovely. Great service from the staff on board.
UNESCO world heritage site. Picturesque view. Free to visit. Although this project was finished in 1805, this aqueduct is still functional now.
Stopped here on a whim and Im so glad we did! The views are just incredible and its completely free to walk along the footpath. Its worth knowing that the path along the aqueduct is quite narrow, so you do have to wait to allow others to pass, however it is able to fit wheelchairs if needed. Its also a very short walk from the main car park, under 5 minutes, which is handy to know if you are as lazy as myself!
Lovely piece of engineering work carried out in the 18th/ early 19th century with spectacular views of the river Dee. Guide was informative, but it might be a good idea to issue leaflets to passengers as they board for keepsake
Although I havent walked all the way across the bridge (due to fear of heightsI thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Plenty to see, lots of local walks, boat trips, cafe, seating, picnic area and I think there was a pub too.
Absolutely incredible piece of engineering and highly recommended to visit this world heritage site. We stumbled across Pontcysyllte Aqueduct when looking for places to in Wrexham and its obvious why this is rated number 1. There is even an EV charger (7kW payment required Genie Pointin an adjacent car park which makes it nice and easy to visit and top up your SoC too. The visitor information centre is really worth a visit too as it holds lots of information on how the Aqueduct was constructed.Definitely planning a return visit just to stroll further along the canal and do a boat trip across the Aqueduct.
a pleasant walk can be done along the foot path of the aqueduct, but if you suffer from vertigo, dont look down, can get extremely busy in summer months and bank holidays, cafe is pleasant and a good photography spot.
Great place to come for walks alongside the river Dee to see boats and aqueduct built by Thomas Telford and William Jessop with some breathtaking views.Keep in mind that the path across the aqueduct is quite narrow and the height of the aqueduct is about 39 metres, so if you are fearful of heights, dont try to cross it.You can choose from the towpath to walk to Llangollen, which will be about 4 miles or riverside path to Ty Mawr Country park ( about 1,5 miles). There are also aqueduct trips by narrow boats available. There is a car park, which is a short walking distance from the aqueduct there ( about 5 min.Whole day parking will cost you £3.
Beautiful site, tallest aqueduct in the UK, can get your fear of heights going! Next time will definitely do the boat trip on it, definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. Nice gift shop as well, man working in there was very friendly and helpful too. You can also buy duck feed in there and feed the ducks in the canal :-)
A roadtrip through Wales brought us to Denbigh, and discovered this was only a short drive away. Saw this on a narrowboat vlog and dropped in to enjoy a walk across the aqueduct to Trefor and the lovely little display of information on the building of the structure and the difference it made to the region. Worth a visit, though if you are a little perturbed by heights it would be worth having a friend along with! An amazing feat of engineering, and example of a narrowboat canal system making a huge difference to a region.
Beautiful spot with a great walk across the aqueduct. Fantastic views. The crossing may not suit if you are afraid of hieghts as its quite narrow and would be difficult to cross with a wheelchair/large Pushchair. At the main hub there is a pub, toilets and a cafe. With a further boat cafe down the canal all at reasonable prices.
Beautiful place and scenery. Collect the canal boat at Trevor Marine Basin. We booked for a day out , £180. From 09:00 to 16:00. Enough time to head towards Chirk. The view over the Aqueduct are awesome. You can stop at the Poachers pub for lunch . Swing around at the turning basin ahead and head back but get the boat back before deadline or you lose out on the deposit. You are against the tide too and its slower and more hardwork . The Boat speed is only 4kts . You can do the Llangollen route but the canal is narrower and poses additional problems.
Lovely view from the aqueduct, although the path across is slim so you will need to stop occasionally to let people past. It is peacefull with magnificent views on both sides.
Had a really nice time here in WalesFirst time I visited this magnificent work of engineering by Thomas TelfordThe Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in Froncysyllte Llangollen North WalesBreathtaking views & a head for heights too walking along a Pontcysyllte AqueductFolk very friendly too with many nationals…The countryside very clean & tidy tooI would recommend this place but, it a 100 mile drive for me from Leicestershire England so i probably come again next year to visitBut, was well worth the drive coz I like driving long distances
The bridge is uniquely beautiful and unconventional. This is the first time Ive seen a canal of water for boats on a bridge! Thats amazing!
Amazing engineering and great views as long as you have a head for heights, public toilets and a visitor centre with a childrens playground, cafe and parking nearby.
Very nice and unusual place. The tiny boats are crossing a deep valley on the bridge which is a actually a canal.A 1/2 mile walk links 2 zones of pubs and car park. Along the canal, some barges are a nice pub-bar, another one a is a flea market, and some other one are static or long-time mooring houses.Closes at 4pm,Toilets available on the disable car-park and at Telford In on the other side of the canal.
It is a masterpiece of engineering genius! Amazing experience walking on the aqueduct with the kids. Stunning view - the river, the trees, beautiful. My four kids ranged 4-14years old really enjoyed it. The parking fee was £3/day. There was also a public toilet there.
Walked across this and it is simply an amazing view over such an area. The path isnt the widest so you might occasionally have to scooch over for people passing. Its free to walk over so you just have to. Others have said theres a canal boat tour and a visitor center, only disappointed I didnt realise this earlier. If you are feeling up to a walk, you can get between Chirk aqueduct, Chirk tunnel and here in just over an hour. There is also a stepped path on the north side to take you to the field belowWas £3 to park nearby (machine did not take contactless, only coin or app).
The staff on the canal boat to over the aqueduct were fantastic.it cost £10 each Although if you are in a wheelchair you will need to be able to stand and manage about 5 steps in to the boat. However you can walk across for free but it might be a bit scary in a wheelchair. There are some nice walks around and tea rooms etc.
So high up and only barriers one side. This is a strange one as it was such a good experience but also scary particularly if your afraid of heights! There are boat trips along it too if your not too fain hearted. Myself I could not do it. I only managed half way along the bridge, even though you are no where near the mine barrier side you still get the shaky experience in your legs. Glad we stopped when we found it and got to experience it. From distance it just looks like the Harry Potter bridge but up close it is a totally different feeling. Worth stopping to visit.
Its high and long and a lovely break from the bit before and Trefor basin where there was a very grumpy shop man in a boat. The aqueduct itself is interesting and the swallows around it fascinating. Not ideal of youre scared of heights though! Little que to get on but mostly well managed by boat driver (should add that we didnt do this on foot but via canal boat)
Great piece of architecture affording fabulous views of the river Dee and beyond. Informative gift shop and useful facilities such as toilets, place to buy snacks and drinks and the cat park has an ev charging point.
An absolutely stunning place but not for the ones afraid of heights. It is a great architectural marvel and magnificent sight. There are a few trails which you can explore or rent a boat and cross the aqueduct as per its purpose. There is a small shop nearby with refreshments.
Theres free street parking just opposite the entrance of its not busy, would recommend going late in the evening (in summerso far there arent as many people around. The view is amazing with two other bridges you can spot on their side of the aqueduct. You have to walk under the canal bridge to get round to the bridge to cross the canal inside the Anglo Welsh boat rental place. Its well worth a look but for those who fear heights just beware as its pretty tight and the gaps in the bars arent good for children as they could definitely fall!
Lovely Heritage site.Little Shop and museum, boat trips£3 all day car parking, main car park is short walking distance to aqueduct where you can walk alongside the canal but be mindful is it narrow pathway and can become tight when many people are visiting.Wouldnt recommend the walk across bridge if you heights is a fear. However there is some great views going across
If you get the chance, do it, dont hesitate.Bearded men for the canoeing, Becks is relaxed and a fantastic guide.
Decided to visit here as I was in the area.Absolutely loved the views. Its £3 to park but that covers you for all day.Lots of steps and climbs, but you are rewarded with some stunning scenery.Would definitely recommend visiting if you are in the area
Fun place to stroll along an aqueduct. Good views as you walk across. There is a cafe barge just before the aqueduct but this was closed when we visited.
World heritage site. 2 pay & display car parks. Easy, exhilarating walk on bridge. Great views. Canal boats, canoes out on water. Ice cream canal boat moored past aqueduct. Cafe other side, sit out canal side. Ducks.
Worth Spending time (we spent nearly 3 hours); if you appreciate civil construction/architecture, you could have it in you must list. If you visit this, the souvenir shop is a must to go as well; a load of information displayed inside the souvenir shop.Parking was difficult; the car park attached to this is confusing as it states disabled & permit holders only. ***if you go straight passing the car park, you would find a layby in around 100 meters.
Lovely and peaceful, parked in the village it was late afternoon and nice and quiet!People we met who were visiting were really friendly! Not for the faint hearted if your planning on walking over the Aquaduct! Worth visiting!
A place of interest, which took 10 years to be built, a good film how its all done is shown in the visitors center. Its possible to cross the aquaduct by foot and you get magnicent views on the surrounding countryside.
First visit to the aqueduct with my family, lovely to walk along the canal side and take in the stunning views. It really is quite breath taking when you stand next to the aqueduct at ground level, considering its the tallest in the UK and took ten years to build. Quite a remarkable feat of engineering given the period it was constructed and the time it has been standing. We took the narrow boat tour, the guide gave a lively, informative and engaging commentary during the 45 minute trip. The location houses an on site gift shop, pub near by serving food and drinks, visitor centre, picnic areas, plus a tearoom located further along the bank. Plus several footpaths, ideal to explore the area further. One of which lead to Llangollen definitely one to explore during our next visit.
Nice walk by the canal on top of a bridge, an unique experience to see. Boat can be rented. The ducts itself are a good sight to see at a fsir distance.
Interesting drive but once you get there its a beautiful location. Plan to spend a few hours exploring.
This is the best place in the world. There is some really good history to be learnt here. Its also free to walk across.
What a lovely 2hours spent. Well worth the money. Bus trip back near the marina. The staff where very nice and polite.
My one grumble is the carpark charge. We had two days in Wales and didnt pay one charge being on a blue badge. Not here.Gripe over, the whole area was clean and graffiti free. The towpath easily walked and the Aquaduct is amazing. A steady walk over rewarded us with great views and lefts us wondering about its construction how many years ago. Well done Mr Telford, an excellent achievement. Well worth a visit and sod the charge, I would go again.
Its a world heritage site, so its quite touristy. Unfortunately the aqueduct was closed, so we were unable to walk across. However, there is a nice walk along the river down to a country park. I think it would be a nice place to visit in the warmer weather.
Nice place to really experience the walk in the narrow space adjacent to canal and to enjoy the amazing views. Very quiet place but memorable experience.
I have to make a declaration straight off. Trevor is my home village… where I spent my childhood. The aqueduct is of course now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A truly magnificent engineering feat (Thomas Telfordknown as the ‘stream in the sky’. If you get the chance take a narrow boat over… but don’t look 👀 down. So proud that it is now fully appreciated.. there were years where it was not.
A great experience walking over this Aquaduct although the path us narrow, not much room to let people pass. Stunning views. Recommended. The Chapel Tea Rooms near by is the perfect place for lunch.
The 18-arched stone and cast iron bridge is used for narrowboats and was completed in 1805. It is 12 ft (3.7 metreswide and is the longest aqueduct in Great Britain and the highest canal aqueduct in the world. A footpath runs alongside the watercourse on one side. If you are scared of heights I might not walk on here. It is a long way up. However the views are incredible and to watch a boat go along it is just amazing. A lovely place for a picnic. There is a cafe and toilets. Plus a pay & display car park.
What a beautiful, amazing experience this place was. To actually walk across an engineering masterpiece built 100+ years ago was inspiring. The views are incredible and the walks alongside canal is peaceful, fab to see the barges navigate too. Well worth a visit.
We walked there along the river from Ty Mawr country park. It is£1 to park all day. The walk there was about 2 miles and very beautiful and easy to walk. Pontcysyllte aqueduct is stunning. Well worth a visit. The views are lovely. There are cafes and a pub and a nice canal walk. Amazing place
This was brilliant. Always good to walk over something slightly scary, but not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Great views and a constant supply of canal boats going across it. There are some walks locally to get some other views of it. It’s situated at Trevor basin that has a refreshment barge and toilets, a disabled car park and other car park. There’s a pub on the other side of the canal and a place where you can hire boats for the day. A nice big of Telford history.
