Are per all the reviews, low tide and calm seas for a place like this.I will note that this isnt your conventional hot spring. Dont be expecting 27-37 degrees sea water. At most, the water here is only a few degrees warmer than the normal ocean temperature. But this is the Azores, so the normal ocean temperature is so lovely to swim in (at least for an Irish person).Beautiful martian landscape and well serviced with changing areas and showers.

Check the tide report before going- we went at low tide at 11am and it was great! Hot water from the rocks, cold water from the ocean. A bit crowded but not too bad

Its a very unique place. The lava rocks are warm and so is the water. When the tide is lower the water unbelievably warm for seawater. There are ropes to hold on to and there is a lifeguard making sure everyday is safe. Must visit!

Where lava meets the ocean and hot springs 😁. To get the best experience check the tides and come here when tide is low. A bit up the road there are nice facilities. The road to get down here is extremely steep with several serpentines, go slow! Absolutely worth.

Truly spectacular! This was the best experience I had on the island. I couldve spent all day here. This is a must visit when you visit Sao Miguel. Be sure to check the tides and time your visit for low tide.

Amazing swimming experience in a small cove of hot water. At the bottom of a steep narrow road with a small car park. Very limited facilties and the rocks are sharp to stand and sit on.

Water was cold and the tides were strong, but other than that an interesting place to visit and the infrastructure is well put in place with showers and small changing rooms before you get onto the lava field.

A fabulous place for a sea SPA. Geologically volcanic, the termal water flow into the sea creating balmy waters years round. You can alternate between the warm termal water and the refreshing sea water. The hard part is to get out of the water.

Amazing hot springs right in the ocean! It gets crowded but it’s super worth it! I can’t believe they don’t charge you! They totally could because there are bathrooms, showers and lifeguards. Don’t go at high tide because the water will be much colder

Make sure to come during low tide and if you’re an night owl the second low tide around 2am will get you this place to yourself! Little heads up when you get into the water it might feel rather cold or lukewarm, so get a seat around the edges to enjoy the jacuzzi-like hot water 🛁

5 stars in general for the place itself, for the surroundings, for the rocks and the waves, and all that.Less stars for jellyfish. No matter how much I tried to avoid them in my 10min dip, I still came out of there with 5 different stingy and burning spots on my body. The pain goes away in less than 1h, or at least it did for me.Do not ignore the yellow jellyfish flag at the end of the stairs. The lifeguard lady did a nice job of alerting me when one jellyfish was near me in the pool, without her I would have had no clue, it looked like a childs fistsized bubble floating around. Read about it beforehand, if you dont know it already, and do not wash it with normal water from the showers up the stairs like I did.We were there after the low tide, 1pm-ish, so the waves were super nice. The water was warm, like a comfortable bath temperature, with cold patches. If it wasnt for the jellyfishes this whole experience would have been beyond amazing. I initially planned to do a sunset in the pool and book a taxi back to Sete Citades; Im happy I didnt do that, would have wasted money that way.Car is the best way to get there, as far as I saw. We didnt have one, so we took the bus to Várzea then walked. Its pitoresque for sure, and its not the end of the world, but beware of the last part of the journey where you start descending; its very steep, both for uphill and downhill.

I dont get it, why is this place so popular. At the time weve came there was like a 70 people swimming and sitting next to really little hole, in which is a water from ocean, definitely not hot, maybe even cold and few ropes. Because the places where you can sit are made from cold lava, it is very uncomfortable to sit there. Only stars I give for a view. There is even a bad steep road and dirty toilets. I wouldnt recommend anyone to visit it here.

Beautiful beach and landscape surrounding it. For us in July, the water temperature of the ocean was not higher than in other parts of the island, contrary to some of the other reviews. There are separate thermal water pools but these are fenced off and require payment to enter. Nonetheless a must visit.

Very pretty place. You can drive down there but be prepared to be driving up hill when you leave and I would advise if you’re not so comfortable to rent an automatic car.A bit windy when I came here in the beginning of may but still felt nice. You should pack a swimsuit, towels and you can change either by the natural pool or they have changing rooms.

Very nice springs. If you are going to go you need to remember to check the times on the apps before you go. This is because it gets cold at high tide. If at all possible go slightly before the earliest time suggested in order to get near a hot spot. Overall I would say it was very fun but it can get a little crowded.

Nice place to enjoy being alive!Pro tips:1. bring some bathing shoes with, the stones are hot and sharp, hard to walk on!2. be not surprised, if the water is cold, it happens when the ocean is very wavy and washes out the thermal water.3. dont swim out of the lagoon, even if you are an open water swimmer 🤙 Tides can be tricky!

Very unique volcanic landscape and extremely relaxing thermal pool! The end away from the ocean was the warmest and then was progressively cool towards the ocean. It seemed that most people found the warm side too hot for their liking but I really enjoyed the temperature.Completely free and about 10mins away from the car park. You’ll know where the best place to park is if you keep driving down the winding road until you can no more.Arrive as close to low tide as possible! High tide means that the cold Atlantic water breaches the pool barrier making the water cooler. We arrived an hour after high tide and stayed an hour finding it sufficiently hot in the warm end!Changing facility available and a nice cafe.

Really nice spot. When you park, take the path behind the house. It will lead you straight the natural pool. However, check well the tide because it’s only warm when it’s low tide. The view worth it.

Awesome spot with hot sea water. Good replacement for the other thermal spots that you have to pay for. This one is free and quite unique! It also has beautiful sunsets... Its best time is during the low tide (hotter water).

This is a hot spring mixed with the ocean. I had a ton of fun here. If you get very close to the mouth of the spring, the water is really hot. You can move back and forth between hot and cold water from the ocean. There are lots waves here so you should be a reasonably strong swimmer. However, there are ropes that you can hang on to if you are not as confident. When I visited, the road down to this area was under construction but Im sure everything is finished by now. So you should be able to park at the bottom of the mountain and walk a short distance over to the ocean. There is a little area to wash off and use the restroom as well. As you get closer to the ocean, the paved path ends and there is a ton of sharp jagged rocks. Be very careful walking around here. Id highly recommend wearing good shoes. The rock is hard to walk on and it is super hot in the summer.

Our favorite hot pool on all of Sao Miguel. Multiple sea arches nearby, convenient changing huts and a very fun experience swimming in the hot water inlet. Cooler as you move towards the mouth, hold onto the rope so you are not swept in or out! Wear waterproof shoes/sandals as the rocks getting to the ladder are very, very rough. Afterwards, get a drink at the Spa Ferraria bar and sit outside to enjoy the sun. A great way to finish your day. Can we do this again, please?

My friend and I visited three hot springs on Sao Miguel and this was by far the most exciting, the cleanest, and the most FUN! The waves came in at a fairly calm rate and were not overbearing, the sunset was magical and the temperature was perfect. There were ropes throughout the spring to ensure you didnt get swept away and most of the rocks had gone smooth over time - but you had to be on the lookout to not bump your knees/ankles/hips because they are all different heights. The facilities were well maintained (could use a light in the change room for the sunset crew...), and clean. The ladders into the spring were sturdy, clean, and fairly accessible. Some things to know:1. Check the weather. While rain and clouds should not slow you down, wind definitely will. The first time we went here, the ocean was fairly frisky and we would have drowned for sure - or we would have been swept out/under the current.2. Check the tides - the best time to go is just before or just after low tide. At these times, even with some decent waves, you will be comfortable in the spring.3. Sturdy shoes are a must - the pathway ends about 50 m from the entrance and its a rocky path there, with no clear route and lots of uneven ground to cover.4. Check out the spa and walk around the property while youre there. The views are amazing and unique in each direction, particularly at sunset.

Theres a dressing room and showers close by. Definitely bring some shoes/flip flops etc. as the way to the entrance has many lava rocks you have to walk over. Lifeguards take care of people getting in trouble.Bathing in there is great with temperatures changing all the time from warm to very warm. If you like it colder just swim to the outer parts of this lagoon.

Wow! This place is cool. Im not sure if normally you can walk down, but the road down the hill/mountain was closed for construction when we went so our only option was to walk. It was worth the walk for sure just bring water! Not sure when the road will reopen but I honestly dont think id want to drive down. The water is so fascinating in that its warm but you can still feel the cold rush in when the waves come. There are ropes to hang onto in the deep part, but also a shallow area (closest inlandwhere most people can stand. Its fun that the waves move everybody as they go in and out. Its hard to explain, but its a must do in Sao Miguel!!

We visited this place on August 9, 2019. Access is easy, just follow the road which will bring you to a brandnew, huge parking space (for freeright in front of the spa. There is also a public cafe where you can have coffee and snacks. There is a new paved way down to the natural pool. Halfway down you find changing rooms, toilets, showers and another snack bar. Access to the natural pool is easy, and there are lifeguards.

Wonderful place. Free to visit. Recommend using a car. We visited when it was raining but for that we got great rainbow pictures.Be sure to use the Ferraria hot spring app to check time of day when water is warm! I had to check it out the old fashioned way... Will definitely re-visit when its the right time.

This a pretty special place, so worth a visit. The massages were 5 star and the pool about a 4 star. The day we were there was a buffet lunch, which was really only a 3 star. I was also a little surprised the restaurant had very few windows, and no view. We were planning a long lunch, but it was honestly not that kind of spot. The natural pool in the ocean was worth a visit, even if it was not warm.
