I went there for a date, we dont havechildren but there were plenty ofplaygrounds for kids to enjoy. The park is full of different animals, its adecent size and variation! We went to the restaurant on site andenjoyed the carvery, overlooking the koicarp lake. There wasnt any other optionon the Sunday we went but it was nicenevertheless.
What a good little place this isIts a mostly small animal zoo so dont expect elephants lions and tigers.Book your tickets in advance.Really enjoyed our afternoon here, and I dont like zoos much.We booked a table at the restaurant the previous day, it is a full carvery retaraunt licensed premises and open to the public so booking is advisable (quite busy)Easily accessible from m62, if your coming from manchester direction use jct 25 its quicker.
Really lovely small Zoo, easy to get around, loads of spaces for children to play. They have a unique experience of walking around the inside of a Lemur enclosure where they come up to you. On site toilet and cafe facilities are great and there is a lakeside restaurant. If you miss anything due to it sleeping or not around then its easy to do the loop again and catch them. A definite must visit if in the area.
Quite expensive to get in but its a nice walk around with a variety of animals. Would recommend taking a picnic on a weekday as there was limited food options.
Brilliant, very clean Staff are great if you want any info. The walk through lemur enclosure is excellent
Lovely, well kept clean zoo. Lots for children to do, fab parks (at least 3). Really pretty koi carp lake. Extremely good value for families. Two nice little pizza shed / cafes.
Excellent place to visit with kids. Lots of playgrounds and animals to see. It not very big but thats fine as its great for younger kids to enjoy animals, spend time playing and not get too tired or bored.
I have the best volunteering job in the world. I am lucky enough to spend 2 days a week helping to supervise the lemur walk through.Ponderosa is a small zoo with lots of animals to see. The keepers are really friendly and knowledgeable and care deeply for the creatures in their care. There are several play areas for the kids. Wonderful areas to eat and drink. The cafe, the Lakeside Restaurant and the Pizza Shack.
Nice small zoo with lots of play areas, places for something to eat/drink or to sit with picnic of your own. Great for young children. Fairly priced. Spent about 3.5hrs here. Could have spent longer with kids taking more time in play areas.
Fab place for children and great prices. A zoo where you don’t fell like you’re being ripped off - but it is no frills!Large selection of rare breeds and loads of refreshment bars and children play areasMyself and grandson £17 entry. £6.50 for a sandwich, bottle of water and a large magnum ice creamPerfect day out
Great day out for the price..... kids of all ages (from 8 months to age 10loved it... Lots to see, all different play areas are great and picnic areas and tables available also good (to say we went in school holidays too)Buying food/ice creams their is a bit pricey, but these places always are.... So definitely worth taking a picnic and drinks....We had a great day and will definitely be goings back 😊
Lovely afternoon - big enough for a 4 year old and two one year olds. Plenty of places to sit if you wanted to take a picnic, but food available there. Recommend a visit.
We went to Ponderosa in July 2021 and again today. Both times we absolutely loved it. Its only small so we got around all of the animals in about an hour. There are 2 playgrounds and some big bouncy pillows and a cafe. Its always clean and theres a good variety of small animals. Our daughter got the chance to handle a giant snail and a stick insect! She also loved the lemur walk where she could get up close to the lemurs.
Small little Zoo but had some great attractions. Walking around was not difficult and there is quite a nice flow. Went on a very hot day during the middle of the heatwave so a lot of the animals were trying to stay cool which I dont blame them for. Overall a pleasant visit 🙂 Looks like good fun for families as well 🙂 Also noticed a few upgrades in progress which is always good to see.
Amazing place to take the kids, so much to do and see. 4 parks so the kids don’t get bored, so many different animals to see too, can’t believe such a great place is in Heckmondwike
Brilliant little zoo, definitely worth a full day out. Was also very impressed with the lemur walkthrough enclosure. Would absolutely recommend this for kids, and adults alike.
A hidden gem in West Yorkshire for an affordable price. Its a shame the boat was closed for maintenance as well as a few of the enclosures so didnt get to see the zoo at its best. Nonetheless with playparks, lakes and gardens it was a brilliant family day out and will be going again!
Loved it although we went quite early and a lot of the animals were asleep still but they had perked up later on. Kid friendly with lots of places to play or sit down if needed. The cafe was nice and the gifts were well priced
Great small local Zoo. It’s not massive but there is still plenty to see. Great place to spend with the children as you could go around a couple of times and theres plenty of space to sit down to have your picnic.Wide range of different animals. Really enjoyed the lemur enclosure as you can go inside and see them up close. There is a few play areas too including a trampoline area.Entire Zoo was clean and beautifully kept. Plenty of information about the animals in the enclosures including QR codes which you can scan for even more detailed information. There is an onsite restaurant, cafe and ice cream shop - plenty of food options. Toilets were clean & well kept.If you go in with expectations of comparing it to larger places like Chester Zoo - then you may become disappointed. Remember this is a small zoo - but it is definitely worth the ticket price!!
Clean, looked after and a nice little trip. Better if you have kids as theres a lot of different playgrounds. Only thing it could do with is more staff to keep an eye on the enclosures as a lot of people kept banging on the glass/fencing. Would be nice if there was someone preventing that. All in all I would recommend
Lovely little zoo. Plenty for the kids to when we went. Face painting, circus acts. Even without that. Great climbing/playing areas. Bouncing area, sand pits. Plus of course the animals. Recommended.
Predominantly good with a nice selection of animals and things to do for the kids but got a little bit busy!
Absolutely beautiful little zoo, well worth a visit. Each enclosure was well maintained and all animals were visable. You could see all animals up close, even though they were enclosed and staff were amazing, friendly and helpful. We didnt know but on the day we visited, StarWars characters were roaming the park which was brilliant and really fun for the children (and adults!)!You get your own little map of the park upon entry which is nice and colourful and easy to use to navigate your way around.Plenty to do for children, climbing parks and even a little sanded area which was labelled The beach. Plenty of places to sit and stop to admire your surroundings or to have a little bit of food and plenty to choose from if you decide to get food there also.Plenty of toilet facilities that were clean and available at each point of the visit. We really enjoyed the Lemur Lookout, which gives you the opportunity to walk around a short little enclosure, getting very close to the lemurs. The staff in this enclosure were extremely helpful, friendly and were both happy to answer any questions and chat about the animals too.The park was wheelchair/pram friendly and had toilet and changing facilities for disabled and babies too.Perfect place to visit for a short trip out, or for a full day out depending on how long you wanted to stay for.10/10, would highly recommend. ♡
My son had a great time doing the meerkat experience (as did I!)He loved the new air pillows too, as well as seeing all the animals. There were Star Wars characters and music too for the jubilee weekend. An excellent visit 😀
Lots of different animals to see, play areas are great for the kids, lots of free parking and its one of the cheaper options for a day out
Great visit to Ponderosa, lovely display of animals that look very well cared for. The staff are very enthusiastic and very interested in their roles which is great to see.The lemur lookout was amazing and the two girls (think theyre sisterswere so informative and helpful which contributed to make it a great experience!
Had a great day here! Lots of parking, all buggy proof, very kid friendly. All of the animal exhibits have QR codes, so you can learn about them, watch them being fed etc without having to wait around for a "talk time". Theres lots of play areas and places to eat. staff are very friendly and theres also toilets at all the different parts of the zoo. Will definitely go again as its amazing value for the price you pay. Enjoyed more than Chester zoo.
Lovely little Zoo with excellent grounds all beautifully organised. Some quaint sights such as the boat park and large fish pond and sand area with bouncy feature for children featuring a snack shack.Ample car parking. Good sized cafe and snack shacks all selling drinks and small snacks and iced creams.Small Gift shop upon entrance.Highly recommended for young children and families.
Came here with the kids. This place is great for a dat out with the kids. Prices are reasonable and the restaurant is delicious too but you can also bring a packed lunch and save on the pennys. They have entertainment on throughput the day and live feeding of the animals for you to see and get up close. Absolutely loved it.
Amazing place for all ages, me and kids loved the place. Great price, food and drinks not overpriced and the place is spotless. Animals look very cared for. Highly recommended to all familys
First time Ive been, went with a 10 and 7yrold and they loved it. A few animals were in bed when we went but thats fair enough. The lemur walk through is brilliant and we saw most of the animals. Its clean and very tidy looking. I think just for the play zones alone its well worth the money. We stayed for 4 hours and had a picnic at the beach. Its 15 mins from my house so we will be regulars there now.
Enjoyed our morning visit, quite a lot to see, nice big play area. The walk through lemur enclosure was the best bit.
Amazing medium sized zoo woth opportunity to adopt animals to help support the zoo. The zoo borders a park and has two large outdoor play areas for children. Plenty of indoor exhibits like the reptile room and a cafe that serves coffee, hot food and ice cream. A great place to go, with or without children.
Excellent day out, went knowing it was a relatively small zoo but was surprised at the variation of animals and play areas to keep the kids and adults entertained. Very reasonable price, well worth it and will definitely be visiting again.
Great little zoo kids loved the animals and all the climbing frames absolutely fantastic day out 😊
Great day out. Enjoyed it very much. Not too big so great for younger ones. Mine is 11 though and we still really had fun. We especially loved the talking parrot, the otters, meerkats Scottish wild cats and the reptile house.
Great small zoo with plenty to do for young kids and not too expensive entry. Good value for money. Handlers were very good with plenty of Information and all the animals were looking very healthy, alert and active.
What a brilliant zoo. Holds alot of history. Animals were all looked after and the cafe lady was lovely. Couldnt of asked for more thank you ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Lovely little zoo for £7 per adult and under 3s are free. The parking is a bit unclear though, when I turned up at 10am there was no signs out at all so I had no idea where to park at all. Also on the approach I had to stop and check I was in the right place as the signage disappeared and it just looked like an industrial zone so bit odd.Good zoo for the little ones, with some good kids play areas. The little cafe is only small and only does light bites really but is very cheap..
Brilliant small zoo to visit for an afternoon. Very clean and great for young children. A couple of good play areas and cafes. Lemur walk through was a big hit. Not too crowded although the main car park is quite small & awkward if people dont park in spaces properly.
Quite a good variety of animals. Entering a large cage full of Lemurs was something new for my kids and they really enjoyed it. Lemurs come close and are friendly. A large pond full of fishes was also great. Plenty of parking and a shop with coffee and small gifts. A small kids play area as well. Good enjoyment for Sunday.
What a little gem! Despite poor weather, we were able to see most of the animals and had some really special moments during the trip. Was nice to be able to enjoy a zoo without feeling overcrowded or rushed, particularly in pandemic times! The lemur walkthrough was a particular highlight. Café was good too, reduced range mid-week but still had a nice toastie and a tea. Will definitely be visiting again!
We had a great day out with the kids. The tickets need to be pre-booked and are a very reasonable price. Theres plenty of seating areas dotted around for picnics and also a coffee shop which serves basic food. The toasties were nice and not a bad price. The animals seem well cared for and there are also lots of kids play areas spaced out around the zoo. Great place for a family day trip
Perfect for young families and grandparents the best bit for me was the Lima enclosure were you can walk round but mind poo on floor lol definitely a good experience. They have talks on different animals when feeding time has cafe plenty of picnic areas and play areas for kids only draw back for me needs more toilets .also has nice wedding venue or party place bring a picnic you have good day out animals well looked after keepers friendly
Fabulous little gem of a place. The prices for entrance were cheap compared to most, the parks there were brilliant for the kids, their home made Italian pizzas were amazing and tasted even better because they werent actually expensive. Overall a fantastic place for a family to visit, plenty of food and drink options, and even a little shop for gifts on your way out.
Lovely little place, reasonable priced and my kids loved it. Had 2 really good play areas as well as loads of animals.
Lovely place, well maintained and great for kids.Nice cafe and separate restaurant and small gift shop.Prices are about right and we spent about 2 hrs looking round. You can take a picnic if you prefer, plenty of benches and nice seating areas. 10/10 would highly recommend. x
Fantastic place, everything spotlessly clean. The animals are very well cared for. Lots for kids to do, plenty of play areas. The walk through lemur enclosure is just the best thing ever! We will definitely be going back
We arrived at 3pm for final session. If you are running late, dont worry too much you only have to let them know if it is later than 4pm as thats the real last entry. There is ample parking, keep driving all the day down to get the best parking near the entrance. There are lots of small animals lemurs, monkeys, seal otters and a few big ones... Reindeer to be precise! There is also a beautiful cerval cat, your not paying big zoo prices so dont expect big Zoo animals. It is a lovely little place to take the family and have a fun outing. We got around with the family and kids in around an hour. There is a great little jungle gym there and additional bouncy castles when we went on. Kids absolutely loved it. Bouncy castle is £1 for 5 mins and cash only! There are restaurants there, however not sure on the prices. If you bring your own food, there are so many benches there to sit in! There are also plenty of hand sanitising stations. There is a beach section near the lemurs, its not really a beachy thing. Just some sand, but nice for kids. Overall, a nice little outing for the kids.
It was our first time visiting the zoo with the children. We were very welcome and had a wonderful day. We saw all the animals in the enclosures with plenty of food around them. There was also an outdoor playground which the children loved.
