Down-to-earth sit-down eatery specializing in traditional Filipino fare, served family-style.
Pondahan Restaurant in Covina
Description
Privilege
What I like about this place is that portion sizes are very generous. We got served by a younger man who was a little gruff, to be honest. Also, when he gave us the check, he put the receipts on top of the credit card so it was hidden. The lady who ran the restaurant was very nice, she ran out after us because I forgot my credit card!
MoreOMG. Im so full. Love it. My daughter loved it
The food here was delicious and service was alright. The wait for the food was worth it. I got a nicely tenderized grilled porkchop here. Id definitely come back here with friends. This place is underrated and could use some more love.
MoreFilipino Food at its finest... We used to frequent this place when it was newly opened and then suddenly forgotten all about it because of the family moving out the area and of course bec of soo many new choices of Filipino food & restaurants that sprouted in the last decade. This resto was introduced to us by a good fried who is a foodie before it was even fashionable. And so like an old friend who you unexpectedly bumped into ea other and rekindled treasured memories... We happened to be in the area of West Covina, both hungry and craving for some good Filipino food.
MoreFood is tasteful and a variety of options. Staff is nice and helpful. Service is quick, highly recommend.
MoreA family owned Filipino restaurant. There is no "wow" factor with the atmosphere or food. Just okay.
MoreHappy campers as we were, we immediately started ordering our old time favorites like grilled milk fish w/ onion /tomatoes and vinegar dipping sauce, a side dish of eggplant & bagoong, Laing(Taro leavescooked in coconut milk, fresh vegetable Lumpia w/ sweet dressing a fresh garlic...My friend told me all it needs are table linens and napkins to call it fine dining considering all the elements.
MoreIt’s Saturday night and we are looking to a good dinner at my wife’s native food. Unexpectedly the food were not up to par with our usual Filipino taste. Added to this the chicken soup was not fresh at all! We should have stuck to the today’s menu. Needless to say we were disappointed with the taste of the food. Perhaps it is just a different version of what we were used to. The service was ok. But to spend fifty for two and leaving the place unsatisfied is not what we came here for.
MoreVery nice service. My lumpia was delicious. The pancit was not familiar to my taste buds. So the, I believe, owner didnt charge me for it. Since I didnt eat it. But she did show me on the menu the lumpia I should have ordered. Again, so nice. Who else would go out of there way.
MoreDisappointing!Weve been visiting Pondahan Restaurant for several years now because of the "first impression" we had the first time we visited. The quality of service and of course, the food was very good. Every time we pass by LA, its a must stop at this restaurant. This time though its different. It felt like a whole new staff and chef took over the place. The quality of food wasnt the same and the portion was less. My wife ordered her usual favorite Kare-Kare, but when the dish came, the quality was subpar. The quality of meat and taste was far below our usual expectations. It was disappointing. Same with the rest of our orders. Now the service. Besides our table, there was only one other group sitting nearby us. The server welcomed us and gave everyone water then he said hell be back for our orders, That was the last time we saw him. He (short stature with long hairwas gone for at least 20 min until we asked the other server that we were ready to order. When our server came back, there was no apologies as to why he was gone and even seemed irritated when he took our orders. It was disappointing to get that kind of service after 5 hours of long driving. As for the price; we felt it was too much for the quality and portions of each dish. I understand that gratuity can be added when there are more than 6 people in the table, but because of the high price of each order, along with automatic 20 percent gratuity, we felt like we were robbed.Because of this experience, our expectations for this restaurant is now very low. It is time to check out other restaurants and maybe well find the same good place we felt the first time we visited Pondahan Restaurant. Visited 10/06/19 between 4:30 to 6:30pm.
MoreDelicious food, great prices, friendly service. Will definitely come back again when in the area and also recommend to others.
MoreThey were able to accommodate a birthday party for us thats seated at least 20 people in one area with tables joined together. The food was good and also their service.
MoreThe worst Fake Filipino food ever. I guess Yelp was totally wrong. I read the "American" reviews and for an Asian who loves REAL Filipino food, this really sux and overpriced to boot. The service was mediocre at best.
MoreGeat Filipino food. Wonderful service and a nice atmosphere.
Food ✅Service ✅Ambiance ✅
Not happy with the food but customer service was good. This was my second time dining with them they need to improve the taste/flavor of their food.
MoreDefinitely a family restaurant. Proportions are to share and are huge. Most platters are enough to feed 3-4 people, but you can get a family platter too. I go here with my family often and we always have a good time. If you enjoy Filipino food, this is the place for you.
MoreI was late for my order and I wanted another order of egg rolls and 😍 wow me and my son finished it lol the food was so awesome and good I truly recommend this place and definitely will come back again 👌
MoreDelicious food and awesome service. I have been blessed to frequent this restaurant with my in laws after Sunday mass. Makes for a great lunch spot and the food is always out in minutes. Top notch service. I love this place. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very family oriented.
MoreSkimpy servings (a dish that was supposed to feature pork only had two tiny slivers of pork, and a dish that was supposed to have peppers had no peppers at all). And they mixed up the order and did nothing about it.
MoreExcellent service and great home cooked Filipino dishes made with love and care.
People were courteous, food is great and Jean treated us like a family. EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE.
MoreAlways the best place for Filipino dishes! Authentic and yummy!
Good delicious food, friendly staff very clean cozy and romantic, only problem seems to be hidden but a must to visit restaurant. AAA+
MoreStaff is great, someone who just started trying Filipino food , this is where i would recommend. Also large portions for a fair price
MoreI conducted a recorded interview there and Tita Gina was the reason it was successful. The food was great too!
MoreGreat food!!! Nice and friendly staff. Cozy and clean place.
Loved this place. Went with my Filipino friend.. She claimed the place is very authentic. So it must be. Overall, very good.
MoreAmazing service and food! Had no problems, went in and out clean.
First time in 3 years, and coming back to have kare-kare and beef steak. The best Filipino restaurant in the area. Very friendly staff, nice atmosphere. Food items are reasonably priced.
MoreDelicious! Wide variety of popular Filipino dishes -- they even offer staples like Arroz Caldo & Nilaga. Service was very good especially from the very kind older Filipina lady.
MoreSome of the most delicious Filipino food Ive ever tasted at a restaurant! The ambiance is nice too. We always get the crispy platter and the garlic rice. But everything here is pretty good.
MoreVery good food, better than expected, at affordable price. Saw a large party, possibly a family, having lunch here. Sign of authentic food.
MoreExcellent Filipino food. Prices are fair, and friendly staff.
The beefsteak is probably the best Ive ever had its a must try
I ate here for the first time when my husband and some friends went to have lunch after church one Sunday. The crispy pata was so yummy. It was literally finger licking good. The pancit noodles were so light and the halo halo drink was so sweet and creamy. The restaurant is not fancy but the food is very good.
MoreConsistently great comfort food for Filipino families. Portions are more than enough to feed 3. We always order more than 4 dishes at a time so there’s always enough even to take home. Try the crispy fried boneless bangus. Their signature dish!
MoreBoth male and Female restrooms were closed the whole night due to being clogged and dirty. No place to wash your hands and no place to use the bathrooms. Their portions are small for the price. We gave this place another try already. Management should address problems like this promptly.
MoreFilipino food cooked here. Delicious crispy chicken. Kare-kare is good too. Occasionally dine here with family. Reasonably Priced.
MoreAlways good food. Our usual order includes garlic rice, pork adobo, tortang talong, and BBQ chicken.
MoreWe ordered pansit malabon, lumpia, and beef sinigang. The pansit and lumpia were on point! I also really appreciate that the lumpia came before the rest of the food bec we were pretty hungry and needed an appetizer. The sinigang was pretty disappointing but i was surprised at how big one serving was! Definitely family size. Even the one serving of rice that we ordered was pretty big! Id say 2-3 people could share one order of rice.
MoreThis is a very good family restaurant in the West Covina suburb. It is situated in the huge shopping mall known as The Plaza.A veritable choice of feasts await you with lunchtime specials a daily feature until 4pm.There are wide ranges of starters , small plates and Soups. You can then follow that with Sandwiches, Burgers, A healthy range with.
MoreI spend close to $100 of different dishes. Miki Bihon was salty; Palabok has little sauce with hard noodles; sago-gulaman was meh. The kare-kare was pretty good but mostly fat and the beef steak was mostly sugar content. Either the cook on the weekend didnt want to serve that day or it might be their daily service.
MoreThe food is good, and tastes homemade with good ingredients. The only downside is the portions are small, and its a little pricey. Apart from that its very nice restaurant, good service, and perfect setting for a date or when eating with a large family/friends.
MoreNice atmosphere, great service average to above average Filipino fare. Get the crispy pata and pancit bihon.
MoreProbably best Filipino food restaurant in San Gabriel Valley in my ever so humble opinion lol!
MoreDelicious Filipino food!
Not vegetarian friendly. Eggplant salad is not what I expected. Flan is yummy. So is garlic fried rice.
MoreFood: 4/5 starsVery promising from the outside as you approach the restaurant. The grilled flavor waffled through the air invitingly. We ordered a variety of dishes to share.3/5 Chicken adobo. Too light in flavor.3/5 Sisig. It was ok. A bit flavorless to my taste.3/5 Garlic fried rice. I saw the garlic but barely tasted it.3.5/5 Pancit bakabok with fish flakes. Good flavor but noodle was too wet for my taste.4/5 Lumpia Shanghai Egg rolls. Good solid little rolls of crunchiness.4/5 Eggplant ground beef omelet. Very very good Asian style "omelet". The egg doesnt cover the ingredients like western omelet. Its a part of the mixture and fried in deep oil. Its served on a banana leaf that enhanced the taste and presentation.4.5/5 Seafoods platter grilled consisted of whole milk fish, red snapper, whole squid, prawns, mussels, and onion salads. I preferred a less blackened look to the food but the taste was not bitter from too much charting.Atmosphere: 4/5 starsIts in a strip mall but on the side. It looked out of place. It also looked closed from the outside unless you look at the open sign closeup. Once inside the atmosphere is warm and inviting. The decorations has an Asian flair to it but fusioned nicely with good color palates.Service: 4/5 starsVery good and efficient service. All the wait staff were ready and happy to serve us. All requests were done immediately. Staffs dint just sit around but walked around and paid attention to all the tables.Expense: 4/5 stars15% tip mandatory for party of 6 or more people. Prices were quite reasonable for the quantity and quality of food.Return: 4/5 starsYes. Overall a very solid 4 stars across the board. If you want decent Phillipino food with good device then give this place a try.
MoreYou come for the crispy pata. You stay for everything else. Its a relaxed, refined tropical feel in the restaurant. Dishes are big so you might want to share. The location is a bit odd as its on the back side of the strip mall. Service is excellent and friendly.
