Point Prim Lighthouse - Tourist attraction in Charlottetown, Canada
A bit out of the way but worth the trip. The first of over 60 lighthouses on PEI. Beautifully maintained. The few dollars it costs to climb to the top pay off in informative displays inside, including the early lighthouse keepers bedroom, and a panoramic view from the top. The sweet gift shop was staffed by a knowledgeable and personable woman who shared delightful historic details.
Very good place to go in pei. If you wanna go inside the lighthouse , beware to go before 5 pm.
It is $5 to go up in the lighthouse. They have a very nice gift shop and bathroom. I did not go up in the tower because this was the last lighthouse on my trip and Id spent a bit of money already.
It was closed but a very cool place .
Super windy on the day but excellent chowder! Beautiful little spot. Well worth the drive
The staff there are so nice and excited to share information about the history of the lighthouse. I would recommend this stop!
Absolutely stunning views. Our party didnt pay to go into the lighthouse but the scenery from the ground was still fantastic.
Super cute lighthouse. The gift shop has some of the nicest and cleanest washrooms I have seen at a tourist destination.
Such a wonderful little spot where we spent our last day in PEI. The kids loved climbing upto the top of the lighthouse and visiting the gift shop which was run by two very lovely ladies! The grounds were clean and the view was serene. I would recommend this little lighthouse. Take a picnic and eat right by it.
Picturesque tall lighthouse on the beautiful south coast of Price Edward Island. They had a super cute gift shop with souvenires, and wears. My sister and I each bought these beautiful hand painted pottery dishes for grating garlic. You can even pay as small fee ($5to go up inside the lighthouse all the way to the top. The money goes to maintaining the lighthouse so we happily paid. The inside is set up like a museum and a greater who tells you the history of the lighthouse and its keeper. You can even crank the fog horn with is fun! There are several levels to climb and its cool to see how the keeper lived in the small spaces The view from the top is incredible. Sweeping views of the sea backed by lush evergreens.
Beautiful view. Not very good for a leisurely walk along the beach as very rocky and slippery, but if willing to trek it it is worth it! When arriving, paved road ends a km or so before the lighthouse, Chowder House (was too late to try, but has one of the best views in PEI), and public waterfront access....keep going down the dirt road, youll get there :)
Lots of things to discover when the tide is out!!!
This was fun. For a small fee you could climb the lighthouse and see a gorgeous view for the top. Lots of historical items inside. Quiet place away from big crowds. Would recommend.
Chef makes many wonderful chowders and dishes but the East Coast Chowder was my favorite so far...anywhere! Smokey, creamy and sublime! Great spot to eat. Id be a regular even if the view wasnt spectacular...but it is!
Great historic location for children where they give you the history of the the location. Cherry on top... There is a gift shop which has the cutest souvenirs.
Love it. Very clean spot. View from top is amazing. Watch your head while going up.
Visiting as many lighthouses as possible ,purely for the history of each. Touching history gives us connection to the lives of the light-keepers so much better than reading an article on-line.
Awesome lighthouse to visit and you can go right to the top. We came on a cooler, less busy day and there were still lots of people. There is a small fee to go to the top but the visit is free. Not many made the trek up to the top at the time we were there. The stair are steep so not for the faint of heart. It’s a great spot for photography, picnics and even has a nice souvenir shop as well. There is a cafe just down the driveway as well, if you want something to eat. The staff are friendly and helpful. There are people will will tell you about the history of their lighthouse and they are very proud of it.
We LOVED our visit to Point Prim Lighthouse! So scenic! The staff in Keepers Cottage were lovely to chat with. Make sure you climb the lighthouse. What an experience!
Incredible lighthouse! You can climb it all the way to the top. You can also set off a fog horn and turn the light on and off! If you ask, theyll give you a guided tour. Totslly worth it for the money that it costs. Less than $10 a person which was not bad considering the cool tour and info. Lots of space on the grounds for a picnic, plenty of informational signs. A nice gift shop as well. I would definetly go back to this place. A good size parkinglot as well. Easy to find. Cant miss it. Special thanks to "Dolphin Derek" our tour guide, and "Lighthouse Laurie" and "Naughty Kim" for all their help!!
Spectacular at sunset, even when the gift shop, lighthouse and restaurant are closed. Probably best at sunset - hundreds of feet exposed seabed when the tide is low - when its high, just a few feet.
Nice view and great experience to climb up the stairs to the top of light house
This is a beautiful lighthouse and there’s a very nice souvenir store next to it, run by the locals and carry mostly locally crafted items.Met “Lighthouse Lori” at the store, who was very nice and welcoming.
Absolutely beautiful and great lobster rolls!
Staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. Loved this experience, kids did too
We had a free guided tour to learn about the history of the lighthouse in PEI. The view is nice on a sunny day. You can take a perfect picture under the blue sky.
One of the best light houses around. Couple of photo ops on the way
This was the first lighthouse on our around-the-island lighthouse hunting. The stairs in it is quite steep, okay on the climb up but could be a little challenging on the downclimb. The entry ticket was CAD 5 per person and can be bought at the gift store by the lighthouse. The guide inside the lighthouse was helpful and knowledgeable. We went on a saturday, end of may 2022. There was little crowd and no wait time this time around.
Just a beautiful area on PEI. The Lighthouse is a must see.
Excellent place to visit. It only costed $6. Cool to see whats a lighthouse keepers life looks light. I got to play with the fog horn. Gift shop had decent prices souvenirs. Highly recommend if youre not from around there.
Great view should be seen at low tide also very unique lunch / dinner seafood shack. Better to have reservation
So much to offer here starting with the views. For a reasonable fee of $5 you can go to the top of the light house. There is also a cute gift shop. At low tide venture out on the sea bed to explore the tide pools.
Great little lighthouse for taking pictures. However, this is a well-known spot so expect to have strangers in your photos (unless you are very patient and wait for that perfect moment when there is no one around. We also enjoyed a delicious lobster roll and seafood chowder at the restaurant.
Worth dropping by to visit. The shop has some nice crafts. The chowder at restaurant next door is excellent.
What a view! The gift shop there was filled with local goods and artisan works! We bought tons of coasters as they were each unique! The view was great, not as good as peggys cove lighthouse but it is a picturesque lighthouse!
Some of the best views on the Island. Great tour! The drive to Point Prim is very picturesque.
Great photo spot with parking and gift shop. Terrific history of the lighthouse from Rose!! Restrooms available. Definitely worth the 5 bucks! Also a great picnic spot.
This is my second time going to Point Prim, last time I went was 2 years ago.. it was low tide and I remember how breathtaking the red rocks were, how clear the water is ...I even found some star fish which was fun! This year I went during high-tide which gave a beautiful view... but I definitely would recommend going at low tide. The staff there are super friendly and easy to chat with :)
Loved the place...the very first lighthouse built on PEI, and the only round one with bricks (that eroded and now has wooden shingles). It is so peaceful here. The wound wind, birds and waves help you unwind magically. The lawns are immaculate. The lighthouse is well maintained and you can go up all the way. It costs $5, and is worth every penny. The gift shop, where you buy the ticket, is neat and houses some great peices from local artisans.
Great lighthouse. For $5 you can climb to the top. There is also the opportunity to go down to the beach and play in the water and see the lighthouse from a very different angle.
So much history around this lighthouse and its peers, built in the 19th century. The guides can tell you lots of stories about the various keepers whos job was to keep the light on at night no matter what. They hold a map of all the ship wrecks that sunk around the island, marked with an X.The little souvenirs shop has incredible unique pieces made by local artists.
Great quick trip from Charlottetown (only 40 min scenic drive). Plenty of parking and nice views and photos without crowds. Take a walk on the red shore too - very cool! Theres a gift shop with washrooms.
Oldest lighthouse in P.E.I rough half kilometer to get there. nice gift store with very interesting art pieces. small fee to go to the top. cute little boat for kids to play on in the yard.
Cool spot, very interesting history with the land erosion. You need to pay to go up, we bet on a sunny day it should be spectacular. Cause we enjoyed it on this overcast day !
A very peaceful place with no houses nearby the lighthouse. Very few restaurants, i encountered only one few distance from the lighthouse.Water does not look suitable for swimming. Warning ⚠ signs are posted. It is a cool spot to enjoy the ocean view. The landscape is very beautiful.
Beautiful location. If you are coming from Nova Scotia by ferry this will be the first place you want to visit before going to Charlottetown. I think it is one of the only few lighthouses where you can go up. Fee is $5 per parson. There is a gift shop near it. Also a chowder house.
Beautiful lighthouse only 10 km off the highway. The lighthouse is right at the end of the peninsula so you have wonderful views to all sides. Great spot with tables to have a picnic or go next door to one of PEIs best restaurants, Point Prim Chowder House.
My visit was outside of the normal tourist season and we arrived there around noon. The tide was out and the shore line was exposed to the fullest and completely ours minus the guy working at the top of the lighthouse. Highly recommend for toddler or older kids.
This was the best lighthouse I have ever visited on PEI. The view from the top allows you to see both Nova Scotia and Charlottetown. The gift shop here is all local stuff. So nothing is a dollar but everything is worth what it cost. It is very nice to see a gift shop that actually sells stuff that is actual local art.
Well worth a day trip from Charlottetown. Better than Peggys Cove lighthouse. Same idea just without the crowds. Small price to actually climb up the lighthouse. Great views and spots to take a picture from the top. Easy climb for those able to climb. Chowder House just down the road or bring a picnic basket to have at the picnic tables. Great little souvenir shop and friendly staff. ON the same road in is also Hannahs Bottle Village. A free attraction well worth spending 30 minutes to visit. Donations accepted.
