Was in 1818 the 1st that General OHiggins declared the Chilean Independence at this place, since that day the arms square is named the Independence square, between its remarkable sculptures include the Mapuche leader "toqui Lautaro" and Spanish Conquistador & founder "Pedro de Valdivia", in the center stands the goddess "Ceres" fountain, symbol of agricultural fertility sorrounded by four beautiful mermaids.
