Guatemala City, Guatemala, Coban
Created in 1776, this sprawling town square hosts parades, demonstrations & other events.
Culturally rich area. Lots to see and learn
Sketchy area. Museums are not open on weekends.
Fun, local, close to the market
A great place to visit anytime especially when there are activities or festivals
In 1821, the five provinces of the Captaincy General of Guatemala (Chiapas, Guatemala, San Salvador, Comayagua, Nicaragua and Costa Ricasimultaneously proclaimed their independence from Spain. In 1822, most of these provinces were united to the First Mexican Empire. Following the failure of annexation to Mexico (January 1821- June 1823), the autonomous destination of the region was again raised. For this reason in 1824 the Federal Republic of Central America was formed with the federal modality of five autonomous provinces (organized in States), and a federal district with its president Manuel José Arce, in Guatemala city. The first legal existence of the Guatemalan State was its status as an autonomous province, which created its own constitution in 1825, following a liberal policy as opposed to federal conservatives.
Nice historic space with lots of activity. Very close to avenida 6 for a nice walk that is well shared. There are several things to see but i have read that its better to go earlier as it get shadier the later it gets.
Another beautiful historical square where locals go and relax on Sunday.
Very nice
Visited in February 2022 at 12pm and it was really safe ! A lot of people, nice atmosphere, lot of policeman.
Very nice place to relax and watch. Take care of your belongings.
A good place to purchase some souvenirs
Is a good place to view the house of President of the past century, is safe due to a lot of policemen are around of the Plaza la Constitution
Local feel and a great place to meet with locals and experience the street life in the city!
It is a really nice place to walk around really good for photos it also has a lot of birds and occasionally people selling bird seeds so fun for your kids to feed the boys
Its nice place to start your visit of Guatemala City. The palace and the Cathedral are cute and there are loads of pigeons you can run after for a cool photo.Super cool early in the morning as it is almost empty. But after 10 it gets really crowded. The plaza is a bit dirty though.
Safe, you can go on a walk at 10pm
I must see for any tourist and there are plenty of vendors all over the square. I would suggest seeing this during the day as it does have some spectacular views and is a little far from the main zones after dark to be out there.
Its nice to visit the cathedral, just dont visit on a Sunday if you plan to see the National Palace or the other buildings as they are closed.
At night you can appreciate how beautiful those buildings look.
Was nicer 4 years ago. Fountain not working lots of people begging.
Its a beautiful place with lots of history. The Palace, the fountain, the plaza and every bit of culture contained within is 100% worth it.TIP: Just beware pickpockets and be safe at all times. (Streetsmarts required)
Wonderful place to walk and enjoy the time with friends and family to go shopping and eating, watching different shows people performing, live statues, clowns. Bars with live music, typical food and fast food restaurants. Christmas season feels every where in the streets and stores, families with kids buying their clothes for holidays.
Good place to hang out with family and old friends. Good place to talk and have a pretty good conversation by taking pictures. From 11:00 am to 2:30 pm you might wear something to cover from the sun. Security and cameras at all time. Bathroom, disable accebility. Public transportation, fast, easy and cheap all buses are painted on green as well public police. Water, chips and candies are sale by people on the place. Almost everything you want is around this place.
The office of the President of Guatemala and a good spot to feed the birds. Has a big gathering area that serves many event. Good for tourists and safe to walk around.
Is a wonderful place is a quiet place is excellent you can finding all in this place is the center of Guatemala.
Very nice place to walk around at night and see the sights.
Nice place, theres some weird people around, thats the only downer.
Beautiful plaza with lovely architecture surrounding it. Do be mindful of your surroundings. Guatemala City isn’t the safest but it also isn’t the most dangerous in the day. I think that by 12 am everything closes and I feel it may be a security issue. Anyway, I never had issues there but I keep my eyes and ears open. The market isn’t too far from here and you can find Taco Bell and other American fast foods along the way. It surprised me to see all of it.
Great tourist area. Good parking all around. Many interesting places all around. Safe area with lots of history, restaurants, and retail within close walking distance.
Beautiful, just keep all your senses on fighter flight mode, not safe to be flashing camera equipment, if needed keep visit brief and dont adventure too far.
La Plaza de la Constitución was very nice! The Cathedral looked very good and the long hallway close to it it full with fun bars and things to see. Unfortunately, the main Government building was being maintained, so I wasnt able to get the full experience. There are a lot of nice places near this one, if you want to have a good meal or a cold beer!
A nice place to hang out.
The plaza has trash everywhere and there are a lot of hobos around. Also I do not recommend to stand still outside for long periods because you can get assaulted by robbers. However, visiting the National Palace, Cathedral or the National Library worths the visit. You only need to be careful with your belongings and do not trust strangers easily.
Went to see Paseo Cultural de la Sexta. It was really awesome.
Quite and calm place. Historical and beatiful. Be sure no to stay long time or walk alone. Vandalism is present, so be careful with your belongings. Its recommended walking in groups and enjoy the scenary
Very entertaining cozy and beautiful sight of cathedral church
Its a place to inhale the local ambient in the country. Great to check out the local food and souvenirs
Great atmosphere and full of energy
Very crowded but nice place to visit
Very important historical place. Under renovations at my time of visit. Independence of Central America countries was signed here on an old building destroyed in an earthquake. A plaque conmmemorates the event. The National Palace of Culture is across the street.
Nice and large place with a good view of the cathedral and president palace. Only one minute away from Mercato Central. Its worth visiting.
Nice place to spend the evening with family.
Also known as the Central Park in Guatemala where you can have fun with your family, if you are visiting Guatemala you should definitely visit this place where you can enjoy how kind people are and also know more about the history of the country in the museum that the national palace has and also the Catholic Cathedral.
Easy to get around and nice places to eat on the sides.
The Guatemala City is a very unique place to visit in Guatemala. Its beautiful, colorful, dangerous, vibrant and it will show you a face of the country which you probably wont have a chance to see in Antigua or other places. The main square is great but dont go at night. Also after dark dont walk at all around Zone 1. There are many gangs on motorbikes and you risk a lot. Always stay in group or take taxi.An amazing experience. One of the most interesting cities I have ever seen. Great nightlife. Great Bars. Very nice people but closed and protecting themselves. I know why now.
This church at night with full moon is shockingly amazing! Even the wind is kind of calm so its really comfortable staying there and watching the general palace at night with all those colors as well as this church
Nice place to visit, its the begining of the new city of Guatemala, founded in 1776, historic and remarkables buildings.
This is a must visit plaza, not because it is an ostentatious place but an open opportunity to meet with the locals and share experiences with an stranger that happen to be enjoying a typical snack like a granisada(shaved icewith your favorite flavor.
I teresting place to hang around for a while and watch people.
Great views, lots of history there. sadly a bit crowded and littered sometimes
