Nice place to walk around or sit while enjoying some ice cream or different activities they put on the weekend. Lots of street vendors in need to choose from to buy cheaper souvenirs rather than paying for some at higher price from the stores. Very clean and pleasant!!! Great for pictures as well with views of surrounding buildings

For me, it is undoubtedly the most beautiful place in Merida. It is very vibrant and clean, surrounded by many shops. Suggestion: visit the plaza grande on Sunday for the market.

Plaza Grande is a buzz of vendors on Sunday morning. The cathedral is open to visitors and you can rent bicycles to bike around the Plaza as all the roads are closed to traffic. Ensure you check with the tourism office on the main square west side and find out about evening entertainment in the Plaza, it changes every night and is free

Nice park, plenty of sights nearby. I somewhat prefer the smaller parks around the area, though - more peaceful, no scammers looking for tourists.

A beautiful lively park in the center of downtown. There are festivities every day.

Nice plaza with nice views all around. Activities on weekends that are free along with vendors around. Good to hangout.

Went on a Sunday.. Lots of friendly vendors in a beautiful city. Be sure to have pesos and visit the local shops and food vendors.

A great time. They say Saturday nights are best but Sunday during the day is great too. Thats the day they have everything out for sale. They have good entertainment both Saturday and Sunday. Now the government just needs to use some of the tax dollars they take in to clean the area up and fix all the outlets because every one of them is broken. They should also probably put stronger Wi-Fi there since its the center of the 12 rated city in the world.

Lovely square, cultural events often happen in the evening eg. Dance demos. Artisan sales on Saturday mornings.

Visiting downtown Merida is a must! Great food, loads of places for some nice souvenir shopping, and loads of cultural activities to do.

Visited as part of an escorted tour group from a Cruise. The location was beautiful and historic. During our visit, there were many street sellers coming up to us which made it difficult to focus on the wonderful scenery.

Lovely square, nice atmosphere, interesting sightseeing around the plaza, Friday nights light show with projections on to the cathedral.

One word: Showstopper...its a landmark for all the fun.

Our beautiful central square, with the oldest cathedral in North America. Fun spot to hang out on Sundays with all the vendors of handicrafts and food.

Its just a wonderful park to sit and people watch in. Smack dab in the center of the city with a grat outdoor market on Sundays.

A must in Merida! Great night shows by the Montejo house. If you love colonial architecture, this is for you!

This is the main city square in Merida and it contains some of the most historically significant and aesthetically pleasing buildings in the city. It’s a great place to sit and people watch. Make sure and take the free walking tour from the information center on the square. Many terrific free festivals, markets, and events occur here regularly like the reenactment of the Maya ballgame Pok Ta Pok.

Come and enjoy the refreshing shade, a cold agua fresca, and buy some artwork from local vendors.

The biggest park in the city i think! Tons of tourists and great atmosphere. Tons of shopping and food. The park is very safe and the crosswalks always have a helpful police officer.

Plaza Grande is the main park in Merida, Yuc., this is a great place to enjoy, to buy handcraft with accessible prices and around good local and foreigh restaurants, specially on Sunday.

Its Sunday, the wife wants to go and see if one of the Artists she likes has a booth in the park. There quite a few vendors in the park today. It is a nice sized park with seating, some with shade some without. There Reasonable Disability Access to the park, for parking expect a walk.

Sundays are the best! There are so many people just enjoying life! Lots of little food stands for lunch.

Pretty light show, followed by history and dance at 8pm on the dot. Arrive early to get a good spot or even a chair.

Largest park in Merida. Center of Merida city, surrouned with beautiful colonial architectures and old church. At Friday night 8pm they have video mapping show on the wall of San Ildefonso.

We were here on a Saturday. On saturday evening there was some music and dancing but due to COVID the park is closed after 10 PM.

The center of small and beautiful village of Valladolid where you can have some street food , if you love marquesitas you have to stop there I had my best! it could be almost desert or full of people it depends from the bus stop in fact is in the the way to come back Cancun from chicken itza , for my tast is beautiful when is empty!

I love this plaza for many reasons:- the Cathedral Friday and Saturday night projection shows - Google it- the Wednesday demonstration Maya game of Pok-A-Pok- people watching - love, love- variety of plants - cool and intentional- trash cans (you think thats a joke... until you seek a public trash can in Mexico)- vibe of safety- night lighting - bright as a diamond- public activities - Saturday morning public and large group Zoomba. Cool.Ill have to edit this list over and again as memories of Merida and this plaza/park return.

It has a central location to meet friends. The tourist chairs also known as kissing chairs are a character of the park. Lush and shaded greenery in landscape.

Plaza Grande is the main square in central Merida. Its similar to many such squares throughout Mexico - rectangular in shape with many tourist attractions and important edifices around it. Its best to arrive at dusk when locals come out after the heat and the square gets lively.The central part occupies a park with greenery and many benches around - pay attention to double rounded ones for lovers, Merida is famous for.On 4 sides of the plaza are 4 Meridas biggest attractions - the imposing Cathedral, Casa Montejo (the oldest house, now a museum), red facade City Hall and the green Governors palace

If youre in Mérida, theres no way around the Central Park. Although its not really anything special, theres always something going on - vendors, exhibitions, tourists...Lets say it doesnt get boring ;)

Merida is such a beautiful historic town. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 a must see on any travel itinerary for the Yucatan.

Of course you have to visit here while in the city. Relaxing area is busy, but still comfortable. Vendors are not pushy.

Very relaxing to sit on a bench in the park. Every Monday at 9:00pm there is a traditional dancing! Don’t miss it!

Great little town, plenty of culture and experiences available for people who look for them. Try out Lavanda Boutique Hotel: awesome place with lots of history.

This is a great place to come daytime or evening. The Plaza is big enough that a breeze blows through it so its cooler than many other parts of the city. Theres always a bench to be had. You can eat, get a drink or shop here. Many come to feed the pigeons. Monday night there are the wonderful Mayan dancers (free).

Plaza grande Is a great place to hangout in the evenings, watching people and the commerce. The historic buildings around the plaza are all worth your time for exploration. Dont miss the free museum in the oldest building in Merida, today also a bank. There is usually a nice art exhibition in the covered alley next to the (necessary to visitold cathedral. After visiting the sites, have a sorbet at sorbeteria colon!

Absolutely beautiful, vibrant plaza. Could spend all day here. Lots to do and see ❤️

Super pretty around here to take your family. Love being here and love the food that the venders bring out on the weekend. Enjoy the long walks and take tons of pictures :)

If you want culture, if you want to get to know the people of Merida, if you want to dance in the streets and eat wonderful street food. This is where you need to be! Will definitely be returning.

This is the tipicall traditional and Colonial Square in Merida. It is mandatory try a sorbet or coffe in one of the places and also recomend to visit the Montejo House and the Cathedral!!

Beautiful local square with lots of places to sit back and people watch!! Make sure to go in the evenings and check out all the activities that happen there on weekends and during certain times of the year where special festivals are held! There are also lots of street vendors selling a variety of different local desserts and cuisine’s. be aware of the high volume of traffic and people waking very quickly. The cathedral is spectacular and you can walk in and respectfully look around.I was saddened to see the large amounts of garbage in the city although there are cans everywhere the locals don’t seem to care too much about littering!

Love coming here. Nice place to relax, listen to live music, see people dancing, grab quick bites from vendors. Reminds me a bit of Washington Square Park/Columbus Circle in NYC.

The heart of Mérida. A great place to hang out a people watch, very relaxing atmosphere. Surrounded by historical buildings, which are museums, restaurants, and shops. It seems like there is always something going on here.
