Plaza Colón - Park and Garden in San Juan, Puerto Rico
Plaza Colón in San Juan
Description
Privilege
A historic monument in the heart of Old San Juan, statue honoring Columbus and his landing in Puerto Rico...nice little plaza surrounding the monument with plenty of space for sitting down and nice views of the city, we arrived early, so we had no problems with the heat, but I can imagine that it gets hot once the sun is half way the sky....Cant remember if its claimed that some of the mirtal remains of Columbus are buried there....Enjoy your walk up from the dock
MoreI sat at this plaza with my family to wait for a cab that was on its way to pick us up.We were returning to our hotel. The plaza is nice but the statues and plaque could use some polishing. The park itself could also benefit from some TLC. Otherwise it was fine for sitting in the shade.
MoreLate post from my birthday in April. I absolutely loved Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 and this particular area. I look forward to going back next month!
MoreBUSY place!!! I WANT TO/CANT WAIT TO RETURN!!!!
Nice central location in Old San Juan with plenty of options all around. Food, shops, historic sites, etc. Plenty of taxis go by as does the Sheraton/Hyatt shuttle every 30 min or so. Do wish there was shaded seating. Did not see a public restroom either.
MoreIt’s been a while but years ago there was a nice boardwalk to walk with the family. Now it’s not really a family place even tho you can bring kids but due to closed or sectioned boardwalk you have to swing close to cars at times…. Park still there but we just wanted a night to relax and hear the waves as we walked…. No idea of the conditions of the park, parking had a section closed as well before it extended closer to the beach
MorePlans Colon is always very nostalgic for our trips to Old San Juan. Always plenty of options for drinks, food and shopping nearby. The scenery is beautiful and a great place to relax for a few minutes before exploring. Great opportunities for photos as well.
MoreWonderful historic tour with Andy found his tour experience on Airbnb
Beautiful place where culture surrounds you. Very friendly atmosphere with plenty of police presence. A must place to visit.
MoreOld San Juan is a beautiful area, full of historic buildings, great bars, and great restaurants! Plaza Colon is a focal point in the area, where you can sit and enjoy many sights!
MoreSimple little plaza. Right in the heart of old San Juan. Lots of shops & food spots around it to eat & shop. Great spot to sit for a break after walking around & to feed the pigeons.
MoreGood historical place to take pictures. It has a well made statue in a very Roman style and I would say it’s a great asset for the city of San Juan!
MoreIt was a very nice view as well as the locals were very kind. There were a few tents there where you can buy local merchandise/souvenirs. Lot of pigeons too!
MoreLocated in the heart of old town. Lots of vendors selling souvenirs and food options nearby.
MoreBeautiful and Full of History. Must Go visit to learn a bit more about my home Puerto Rico.
MorePlaza Colon ,like so much of what you see in Puerto Rico is draped in traditional old world charm. The architecture has withstood the test of time and weather including the tragic hurricane of late. The only reason that I didnt give it 5 stars is that there are still buildings that I believe deserve to have been repaired since the storm and have not yet.
MoreCVS on this corner is convenient and near the hotels. Have everything you need if you forget anything at home
MoreNice shopping area. Loved the blue cobble stone!
Located in Old San Juan was used as a meeting place from our day in that area shopping
MoreThe Best time ever!
Rife with history, this city will transport you back over the centuries and bring the Spanish and Puerto Rican worlds to life! The fort is a mist see and shopping is plentiful. A word of warning, watch where youre walking! The cobblestone streets are slick after rain and there are uneven areas that will easily trip you up.
MoreThis is a great square within Old San Juan to sit and relax. Theres a few trees for shade, a delicious concession stand to get an empanada and a drink stand as well. There are tons of dining options within steps and on the weekends there are local vendors nearby for shopping.
MoreExcellent spot in the hustle and bustle of Old San Juan! Lots to see and do from here. Great photo opportunities with the traffic, statue and old buildings! This is a must stop at and see the I❤SJ sign! We truly had a blast kicking of our walking tour from here!
MoreWonderful historical place in San Juan. Walking through SanJuan is meeting its history, the diversity of beautiful monuments and buildings, it is feeling relaxed and why not, a little exercise. Come visit our island and pass through its capital San Juan.
MoreSoooo beautiful 😍I love this area so cleanTheres always cops around the area.
A charming area of Old San Juan. The shops and restaurants make this an attractive area to visit. The other observation was how beautiful the architecture and pastel colors of the buildings with narrow cobblestone roads make this area a must see. Definitely recommended.
MoreEnjoyed such a beautiful day, the culture and people!!
Pleasant part of Old San Juan. Uber and taxi pick up near the casino here! Eating places at the plaza and very close across the street
MoreI Had a blast. This place has alot to do and see. Nice dinning, great shops and cultural events that are very popular.
MoreIts a public place, what else can you review this for. Oh, maybe the cleanliness and feeling of security for tourists.
MoreBeautiful. Lots of street vendors. Amazing architecture and history surrounds the plaza.
MoreBeautiful square in the middle of Old San Juan, surrounded by street cafes and coffee shops.
MoreFantastic free walking tour started here. The plaza also has table stalls with merchants selling a variety of items. You can also get a coffee or small bite from kiosk in plaza. As well as great view of San Cristobal fort.
MoreThe center / downtown of San Jose is very nice city with beautiful architecture and views - very unexpected thing after seeing many "mainland" cities of United States - the usual mix of kitch, boring and pretentious ... cannot even call it "architecture"
MoreBeautiful, so rich in color, old buildings full of history and cultural.
Nice place to people watch. Great little restaurant right there by the plaza...Ene. Everything was delicious! The salad, various tapas, their meat stew and chicken soup. Enjoyed all of it. Lovely friendly waitress. Very reasonable prices. All in all a great experience.
MoreGreat ocean view, beach, bar and amenities. You walk out right on to the beach. The beach is beautiful and clean. The rooms are a bit outdated but clean. The rooms have no air circulation so your clothes, mask and towels never dry. However, the rooms are air conditioned and you can regulate it yourself. There is no refrigerator or microwave in the room. You can rent one for around $25. The rooftop bar and restaurants are very nice but the pool there is very small. Overall a good stay with comfortable beds.
MoreOld San Juan was filled with amazingly beautiful architecture. We did a walking tour on our own after we left our cruise ship.
MoreIt is a beautiful square. It is a perfect spot to start waking into the Old San Juan and the ideal location to get a Uber to come back to your hotel.
MoreClean, bright, beautiful lighted up for the Christmas holidays. Great monument to see as you enter Old San Juan by car or arrive at the plaza on foot
MoreWe use this location for all Uber pickup and drop off, very convenient located near entry of old town of San Juan. It is cross street from Castillo San Cristobal. A lot of seating area.
MoreSmall area with some historical value. Some stores and restaurants. Worth a visit if youre in the area.
MoreThe plaza is centralized location surrounded by beautiful shops, galleries, vendors and plenty of restaurants. The scenic view is surreal and highly recommended. Great view of a Fort that allows walking tours. You can easily make the area a Day Trip!!
MoreThis is ideally located to explore Old San Juan. The forts are close. The shops and restuarants are even closer. There is a reasonably priced cafe located in the plaza and a grocer across the street from this cafe. Information is also readily available near the cafe. This was a comfortable, care free place to begin my trip in Old San Juan.
MoreI recommend paying for parking instead of trying to fight for a spot or hunt for one. It is pretty cheap I believe I payed 2.50 an hour. It is a lot of walking but well worth it. There is so much to see and appreciate as well as many food and beverage options along the way. The beach is about a 10 minute drive from there but also well worth it. Absolutely beautiful and amazing experience.
MoreI have to give it a 4 just how long that it took us to leave the place I wish that they had a batter why on how people come and go that would be nice but this place was awesome if you have a car good Lock trying to find parking there is a Parking lot that we find that was 3.50 for the day so that was not bad they have a lot of Stores find souvenirs and food
MoreIt was beautiful to see. Great view and nice statute. There was some people who appeared to be homeless laying around but other than that it was nice
MoreOld San Juan is beautiful! Must see. Be mindful thats its very hilly, so walk with comfortable shoes. The souvenir shops are typically overpriced for tourist but can find some trinkets here and there.
MoreA wonderful area of Old San Juan to have stayed. The plaza is a simple park, in and around which a great many vendors, shops, restaurants and travel choices are grouped.
MoreVery beautiful place in old San Juan that is steeped in history. If you are ever in Puerto Rico, you definitely have to visit. I come here every time I visit Puerto Rico and it is more beautiful every time.
