French-accented British dishes served all day to snack or share with coffee shop for lighter bites.
Very nice and great service
pleasant environment 5 stars for service.
Great pink fir roasted potatoes
Ambience nil and the most comically awful waitress I can remember. Food was okay so gets 2 stars, but cannot recommend to anyone except the desperate.
The staff was amazing. The drinks price was reasonable and I had a good time
No longer called plate.Good food ,. Good service and very nice setting.
Food was absolutely amazing..Best pork belly Ive ever had. Steak was as good as it gets. Staff incredibly welcoming and really looked after us. Not expensive at all. Definitely recommend!
Absolutely stunning restaurant and the food! We were placed in front of the kitchen and was served by the sweetest and most helpful waiter. Every employee was kind and helpful, really enjoyed our time, would love to come back again soon.
Beautiful open mezzanine French restaurant with wonderful service and waiting staff. Food was very good and extremely good value Christmas menu with deliciously plump and juicy Turkey breast, incredible pate and lovely desserts. Would have been 5 stars if the main courses came out quicker (we waited 45 minutes but it wasnt super busybut we were having a great catch up so it didnt matter too much.Perfect place for a lunch meeting in Shoreditch / Old Street. Highly recommend.
Good deal via Wowcher and well worth a visit
Unlimited wings and ribs night was fun.
Very small portion, breakfast menu is very limited. Not enough options for vegetarians and vegans. Too pricy. Wouldn’t visit again
Best buffet in town
We had a lovely meal here. The food was delicious, including the bread flight which went way beyond just bread. What really made it for us though was the service which was top notch.
Really lovely place. Nice selection of afternoon tea!
Lovely atmosphere, local to mainline trains and tube, easily accessible, great staff and the food is to die for
Nice restaurant, good afternoon tea, nice staff. But fabric chair and napkin not really clean (dusty and some hair on it). And Just didnt like when we asked to take away our remaining dessert, the waitress pick them with her bare hand, not really hygienic or professional do to that. It was too late too complain. other than that we had a good time.
Lovely staff, nice view, delicious food and excellent separate vegan menu!
We got there very late before the bottomless wings and ribs ended. However the staff were fantastic in bringing out mountains of food to substitute our tardiness. The service and ambience was impeccable. The wings and ribs however were a little too sickly after a while so be ready to drink lots and get your hands dirty.
We found this cool place on Discoeat app- LOVED it, lamb steak was delicious and interesting building.
Although part of a hotel, Plate is also a great spot for a quick business meeting or working breakfast. Ours was lovely and the service was fast which is important when youre on the move.
Nice and simple place to enjoy different food..and delicacies
We came here with high hopes after reading reviews. Our experience did not match what others seem to have had. Service was slow. We asked for two smoothies and told we could only have one as they had run out of ingredients (first thing on a Saturday I expect better). We then waited 30 minutes for our food to arrive, and watched while it sat on the counter for 15 minutes before it was brought to us. Of course, when it did finally arrive it was ice cold, but whats worse is that it was basically a dry piece of bread, two eggs, and some rashers of bacon. Have never done this before but embarrassingly had to send it back, paid for our drinks and left. Waitress was good about it and offered a 10% discount and removed service, so 2* rather than 1.
If youre looking to dine at a fine establishment in Old Street/Shoreditch, then look no further than Plate restaurant.I was immediately impressed by the snazzy surrounding of this hotel restaurant with its comfy banquettes, marble tables, and open kitchen. The friendly staff who looked after me was friendly, patient and knowledgeable from the moment he greeted at the top of the stairs leading to the restaurant. The menu is seasonal British cuisine. Smashed avocado and poached eggs on sourdough bread was creamy, generous and excellent value of money. The 8oz sirloin steak was done as requested. Be aware of the salmond gravadlax and the hot seared bass. Delicious but those with a big appetite might still be hankering for something more substantial. The sticky toffee pudding was excellent - sweet, sticky and syrupy. The tables beside the floor-to-ceiling windows allows you a nice view over Old Street in the distance and it allows loads of light which makes Plate great for brunch. Book in advance to secure the best seat in the house.Because of its sophisticated surroundings, Plate is the kind of place you dine if youre celebrating a special/important occasion. Think dates, mothers day, birthdays, and client dinners. Id definitely consider returning.
The food is extremely delicious, and the service was attentive too.Would be back for sure!
Thought it would be extortionate but actually good value. Delicious food and coffee with excellent service. Very comfortable and not ostentatious. Had avoided it before now as I thought I wouldnt like the atmosphere, but will certainly go again when Im in the area and would definitely recommend it.
In my opinion, one of the best bars in the world. If not the best.Staying in the M By Montcalm for work and have visited the Plate Bar multiple times. Their bar staff is amazing, to the point where I will be staying at the hotel from now on due to them. Tom invented a cocktail while I was here, now named the Chris (after me), that will be on the summertime 2019 menu. Its the perfect citrus summertime coctail, strong and tasty. The ingredients are extremely well blendedso it does not have a strong taste of alcohol. Be careful! Both smooth and refreshing. Highly recommend.Order the Chris! Or any other cocktail... Theyre all amazing.
Have been here a few times after work and have always had a great time and come away feeling full. The ribs and wings night is a must and great value for money. Looking forward to my next trip there!
Thank you for your outstanding New Year menu. It was very refined and creative. Congratulations! And we wish you the very best for 2019 0ur start with you was definitely wonderful!🍸🎆😊
Extremely welcoming and warm staff, like Banel. Very good food and lovely atmosphere
Went there for lunch with my hubby, we were really pleased with the festive menu, it was really delicious, adequate size portions and sensible price. Will come back again. Thx
I’ve had to wait for 45 minutes for my breakfast. Food eventually arrived and when it did it was cold, no apology or any sign of a manger. Don’t come here If you have any plans in the morning, as you might just miss that important meeting.
Further to a previous positive visit (under its previous incarnationwent for cocktails on Sunday evening. Asked for a gin dirty martini. Bartender proceeded to ask if I wanted an olive infused vodka, showing me the skull shaped bottle. Thanks him for the suggestion but made clear Id requested a gin dirty martini. He was training a female bartender, but made a big song and dance about it. In the process of so doing I noticed hed simply prepared a martini (no hint of dirty). He asked if I was alright with a Spanish olive as they had no Italian olives. I replied that as long as it was dirty the origin of the olive wasnt a problem. He realised hed not prepared a dirty martini and had to start all over again, telling me their martini is made with vodka and ... I interjected, I said its easy to make a dirty martini with gin, just use gin instead of vodka, simples! Another customer leaned over and asked if I liked gin. I replied that I did and he said hed ordered a Hendricks and the bartender had been astonished when hed asked for cucumber in it. Enough said. My partner ordered a G&T and accepted a Bombay Saphire... which was prepared with cucumber!! Extraordinary! We finished our (not very interesting at alldrinks and were asked if we wanted to try the drink hed originally wanted to serve me (despite my request for something else). We reluctantly agreed, during prep he advised that hed been trained by "the inventor of the dirty martini... (someone or otherSmith!" Hmm... well, the drink was really quite unpleasant so I do hope Mr Smith - the inventor of the dirty martini, apparently - takes note that one his alleged students is making a complete hash of mixicology at the Montcalm.Oh, we were also advised that the previous bartender (who had mixed me two near perfect dirty martinis a year agohad some issues and had to leave so thats professional, even if it were the case, which I wholeheartedly suspect it was entirely not.The young woman serving was charming, appeared very competent and I hope is destined for his job when he is given his P45.Nice Spanish olives.
Modern restaurant and lounge bar . Great cocktails and great atmosphere
Ribs lovely drinks a bit pricey staff very helpful
Saw their advert whilst staying at the hotel. Went to eat with 4 tables empty only to be told “we’re too busy and we have no space”. Useless if you advertise, have space, but too busy to serve customers. Give it a miss too as service in the bottom area is poor.
The best ribbs and wings I tasted in years. Good service by the waiters Ruben and Gianluca.
Came here on a quiet Sunday. While the restaurant is beautiful and service excellent, I thought the set lunch menu selection was just average. Choose from a chicken breast, hake or vegetarian gnocchi for mains. We also assumed that ordering from the set lunch was optional but it’s not, we weren’t allowed to order from the a la carte menu during lunch (but our waitress was kind enough to offer checking with the Chef to make exceptions in case we wanted something else).Eventually we decided to go with the 3 course set - ordered the crispy pork skin to start, which was very decent, a little salty, but still yummy. The hake (I thought the citrus, capers sauce were a bit too overpowering and you couldn’t taste the fishbut cooked perfectly, and ended my meal with a delightful British cheese board. My partner ordered the gnocchi which he thought was very delicious, and the too-pretty-to-eat coffee brûlée for dessert which he inhaled as it was perfect. It was a little pricey overall (£54?even with the set meal as the portions were quite small, and there were lots of add-on options i.e. cheeseboard was an extra £5, and coffee after another £4, which was a little disappointing.I am still on the fence with this one. All in all I thought the food was decent, but could suggest another similar resto for a similar price with a better set menu selection.... perhaps it’s worth returning to try their ala carte menu to make a final call. In my book, it’s 3.5/5.
Plate Restaurant in Old Street at M by the Montcalm Hotel offers top notch dining in a relaxed and modern setting. Although there is a ground floor bar and cafe in the hotel, my tip would be to head straight on up to the restaurant on the second floor. Here you can sit in the sleek glass fronted building, watching the hustle and bustle go by.Owner and Chef Director Arnaud Stevens has previously worked with the likes of Gordon Ramsay, Jason Atherton and Richard Corrigan. With that experience, Plate restaurant in Old Street is bound to be something special.A particular highlight of my visit were the signature Plate cocktails – designed by the bar’s own mixologists. These amazing cocktails are worth visiting for alone! My absolute favourite was the Naked Negroni – light, summery and refreshing, this cocktail was very drinkable! The staff were knowledgeable and attentive – they definitely knew the menu inside out, as they came up with spot on recommendations for me. I had the Plate signature bread flight to start, which is an absolute must if you visit this restaurant. The trio of warm, freshly baked breads were outstanding with the accompanying trio of whipped butters. The mushroom brioche was so light and flavoursome (not an overpowering taste of mushroomand the onion whipped butter with crispy shallots on top was stunning. For mains, we had the Parmesan gnocchi with sprouting broccoli, almond puree and elderflower dressing and the Rump of lamb, with tomato fondue, anchovy, basil dressing and charred gem lettuce. If you are hungry, I would suggest getting a side to accompany your main. The buttered green beans were a great accompaniment to the lamb.Although the portions are not huge at Plate restaurant, the well balanced dishes were spot on to allow you to enjoy three courses and not feel utterly stuffed. This is particularly helpful, as saying no to desert here is not an option. This desert menu will appeal to anyone with a sweet tooth. I tried the Valrhona caramel chocolate mousse, with pain perdu, hazelnuts and passion fruit. This beautifully presented pudding didn’t leave you stuffed, as the passion fruit cut through the mousse and brioche perfectly.I was reliably informed that the British menu with a French twist is frequently changing to match the latest seasonal produce available. The relaxed, but smart setting, stands this restaurant apart from your average hotel restaurant. Whether you pop in for just a cocktail, or a three course meal, Plate Restaurant at M by the Montcalm is definitely worth a visit.
Great food and amazing friendly staff :)
I adore the food and the staff at Plate. Nothing is too much for them and they are willing to help with any requirements you may have. The lighting is good if you like taking pictures of your food. I recommend trying the marmite bread. It’s amazing!
Really beautiful restaurant. Pretty views, delicious food and great service. Fab as a couple or a group of friends, as they do a variety of types of food and even afternoon tea. Would recommend!
I had a fabulous afternoon at plate restaurant for my birthday! We booked through wowcher for the afternoon tea experience, the food and cakes were delicious and also included a lovely bottle of prosecco! The staff were friendly and made sure that we had everything we needed. I also got a surprise dessert wishing me happy birthday that the staff had arranged without telling us. Very impressed and would definitely come back here!
I had a wonderful time at Plate, ive been for coffee and food and both are superb. The staff is my favourite thing about this place though. Top notch nosh! Defo recommend.
I joined local work colleagues for morning meeting! nice coffee and amazing treacle tart. liked the decor, Ive booked for dinner and see what its like tonight.
Food was good but there is a reason this restaurant is so empty. The portion sizes are despicable. £24 for filet steak is fine if you are getting a whole steak but for two thin slices with two pieces of potato (not even a whole oneit’s extortionate. Never going back. Left hungry after two courses. It’s not haute cuisine. I expected more.
The place is a soulless, service average, food is OK+ but portion tiny. You can get so much better value for your money in the area.
Plate Restaurant (formerly Tonic & Remedylocated in the Montcalm Hotel in Old Street is spread across a street level and mezzanine level, emulating the style of the hotel that houses it. I visited Plate Restaurant with my business partners for a mid week lunch. Upon arriving we walked to the mezzanine level finding the place half empty. While the space is nicely designed with tons of light, leather and stylish accents it feels soulless and lacks warmth. While it tries hard to be distinctive to the Montcalm Hotel, it still feels like a hotel restaurant. In its corporate website the restaurant is described as "laid-back and luxurious, with a lively open kitchen lending an infectious sense of theatre". This is where the problems begin. While the food presentation was great, the portions were small and the dishes lacked flavor. It could be down to having two vegetarians and a vegan at the table but the feedback from all of us was unanimous. Unsurprisingly the bread was warm, crunchy and fresh - the best part of the meal. It is clear that Plate Restaurant has a quality bakery as their sourdough slice and marmite bread roll are remarkable.Plate Restaurant has a lot of competition in the area and unfortunately it seems to be more style than substance. It should stop trying to deliver a sense of theatre and focus on the bakery which is second to none. I would recommend Plate Restaurant for those looking for a relaxed space to enjoy coffee, afternoon tea and baked goods.
Great chilled bar. Great bar service. Great for mature sophisticated people. Sit on the sofa settee and you would not feel you are at a bar. Well impressed.
SUPER NICE AMBIANCE and good food! get the gems! cozy and fancy at the same time and very helpful staff
