Plaquemine Lock - Pub in Padam, India
Lovely atmosphere with love music and excellent food and service!
I had the best Halloween of my life. The beer was cold, my dog had fun, and Marcela from Brazil was the literally best. She was kind and helped me go home, because I did not know how to leave the neighborhood. She also gave me treats, instead of tricks .
The athmosphere was nice, but the quality of the food is not up to standards, we picked gombo, green fried tomatoes, oysters and fried chicken, and the only thing that tasted well was the chicken wich is the less represetative of the new orleans cuisine among them.
Service was absolutely amazing! Marcela and Marisha were great hostess! Oysters and Jambalaya are highly recommended. The live music was great. Suggest booking before visiting when there is live music, as it looked full. The only negative was a side dish that tasted burnt, however, we told them and they did not charge us for it… :)Overall, very nice place.
Cool, quiet pub. Marcela at the bar seemed friendly and inviting.Food portions looked quite small hence 4 stars.
Excellent happy hour. Food was great and an absolute bargain. Free (!corn bread with butter and pickles, oysters, giant prawns, chips with bacon gravy followed by beignets with chicory, coffee and caramel sauce. Delicious. As were the cocktails: mimosa and spicy bloody Mary. Staff friendly too. Need to go back soon!
Really nice little pub. Great New Orleans vibes - really awesome atmosphere. We went in there for a few drinks but the food others were having looked delicious.
This place used to be amazing for food, but now its just meh. Order fried chicken off the bar menu and you get a single chicken on a plate. The corn bread has seen better days. Oysters are a bit too chewy and hopefully not off. Nice ambience though.
High standard Cajun and Creole dishes served in a relaxed atmosphere. Venue is full of original quirky touches such as murals, lamp made of saxophone and such. If I’d be to recommend just one thing from the menu, without a second of hesitation I’d say go for Jambalaya. Not because other dishes are not that good, but just because Plaquemine’s Jambalaya is absolutely outstanding. Good news for all people who care for the planet, this restaurant is carbon free and doesn’t serve red meat because of environmental reasons. Way to go! 👏🏻
Just moved in nearby from NYC. Great bourbon selection in a country full of almost exclusively scotch ; 🥃 the food is amazing as well. Guaranteed return visit from me. 🦐
The food and drink were absolutely delicious. The service was very polite. The drink came in a glass with chipped edge, the drink was switched without any problem. The main "gumbo" didnt look very eye-catching especially when everything blended together it became a kind of brown mass resembling ... Nonetheless, it was delicious. The location has a pleasant atmosphere, worth a visit.
One of the best places in the Angel area! Menu is great if you enjoy seafood, we loved the oysters and gumbo, but everything has been good. Atmosphere is cool and has a lot of live music. Charlotte, Marcella, and Mauricie are excellent and make the experience fun!
Great atmosphere - feel like you’re in a completely different placeThe grubs all delicious. The jumbalaya the standout dish 🤤Staff are the best around too
tl;dr spare yourself money and disappointment and go somewhere else. You will leave hungry and confused with bitter aftertaste of poor customer service. We booked the table in advance for Bourbon Boucherie series. We came in, nobody at the door, staff completely oblivious to customers coming in. We walked to the bar, said we had reservation, lady at the bar gave a confused look to her colleague who asked us "whats up guys". Weird and awkward. We were seated, the place was empty aside of few tables outside drinking. We were offered regular menus, when we asked for the special ones for Bourbon Boucherie we were told that its not happening due to the fact that chef had to urgently return to the USA. No info about that on any of their social media (wed probably move our reservation to a different day if we knew). Okay, accidents happen. We ordered some cocktails and bunch of dishes - cornbread, beignet with bacon, fried green tomatoes, gumbo and jambalaya. Even though place was empty we waited over 20 minutes for our drinks. At some point a lady (different to the waiter who took our ordercame to the table to ask if we already ordered our drinks and then just left without a word. Place is not busy, you cant check order on the POS or ask your colleague? Now onto the main event - food. Everything was seasoned really well but the portions were so awfully small we couldnt believe that they cost as much as they did. Their pictures on social media makes it look as if you are going to experience hearty Louisiana meals, instead its Michelin star portion sizes within your usual pub setting with mediocre service.Tiny portion of cornbread £5, ONE beignet with ONE strip of bacon £7, Jambalaya - served in a massive pot with thin layer of rice spread at the bottom - £18, Gumbo - served in a gigantic fine-dining style plate while portion could fit in a small bowl - £17. Main dishes resembled starters, not a substantial meal.Food took ages to arrive, even though we were the only people eating there at the time. We were served by 3 different people. Chaotic experience.Anyone who claims that this is good value food has never been to any food joint in New Orleans.Youre either a pub, with laid back customer service, serving decent sized meals for a decent price or outstanding place with top tier service that will make up for a tiny portions and crazy price tag.We left hungry and dissatisfied.
Fantastic Jazz Vibes. Good drinks selection. Friendly staff however extremely slow service. Took almost an hour to receive our food.
Such a cute and tasty little pub to eat, drink and relax! We didn’t order much, just some cajun chips, salad, and mixed cheeses veg. But don’t let the small plates fool you! These little plates were extremely flavourful and filling. Apart from the food, the service was also great and the price was amazing. We paid £20+ for three sides and 2 drinks. We definitely recommend!
Had lunch here yesterday, unfortunately we had a very bad experience, we are absolutely disappointed with the food the rice was burnt and had no flavour and my parter got sick with the shrimp. Also the service was un attentive. Turned out to be a waste of money and time.
Jambalaya was excellent, really tasty, complex textures and flavours. Gumbo was disappointing, very... Slimy? But maybe its meant to be like that, first try! Bit too loud music inside for a Friday early dinnertime, too. Fun decoration and a good spot along the canal. Knowledgeable bar staff.
Food was great, a good drinks section and even better whisky selection. Unfortunately this was all wasted because the services was so terrible Id not go again. We waited an hour to have our order taken and longer to be served, when they finally tool the order the food took ages to come. We were offered a free drink after to compensate but given how expensive food and drinks here are this is not acceptable... I hope they improve as the food was nice but the overall experience was poor.
The best jambalaya I have in several years. This place is a hidden gem with live music, excellent food and the best waiters on the world.
Top top place, loved the decor the vibe and the food. Really relaxed atmosphere with a great buzz. Staff are really really attentive and gave excellent service. The food and drink was amazing. Will definitely be back.
Listed by the Michelin Guide in their prestigious Bib Gourmand category for great food at reasonable prices. The food is actually amazing: cajun style, delicious and beautifully plated. A firm favourite on weekends.
The bourbon selection is excellent and well priced. The pub is well set out and clean with effecient and politics staff. Lovely to sit out on a summers day. Food is on, a but but over priced
We were walking by yesterday and decided to go inside after hearing live music coming from the pub. It was a great decision because atmosphere in the pub was amazing, a band was doing a mind blowing performance and we had a really great time.Certainly planning to check out the schedule and go there again.
A neighbourhood pub with good beers and live jazz. I visited on a Sunday lunchtime and had a very pleasant time watching a 3 piece band play. Next time Ill stay longer!
As an American expat who is Creole through and through, I was SO impressed by our visit to Plaquemine Lock. The food was delicious (and pretty damn authentic, if you ask me 😍🤩-- we especially enjoyed the fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits, and Cajun-style gumbo with real andouille sausage. The staff was so welcoming and warm -- our waitress and bartender even made sure to accomdate my allergies so I could enjoy some yummy mixed drinks, too! The live jazz really added to laid-back atmosphere -- cant speak highly enough of this spot. Such a great way to spend my 5th anniversary with my hubs. THANK YOU, PL Team!! 💜💚💛 #LaissezLesBonTempsRouler
Lovely place! The atmosphere was amazing! The service was absolutely great and the food was incredible! We enjoyed a secluded table with a view of the jazz band and great decoration around us. I would recommend booking before going especially on weekends. We loved the chilled shrimp and the chicken pineapple! The margarita was absolutely delicious!
Great boozer next to the regent canal. Dig friendly food looks good good choice of AF beer
Tasty, friendly service, niche menu. Grit is authentic. Theyve changed menus quite a few times during the years, I actually prefer what they had when they first opened with proper gumbo in a bowl and crawfish. Portions tad smaller recently, might be inflation.
Menu has recently changed, and you can really tell that they are not as good as before. Bland food, almost all dishes tasting the same, and they dropped a few good items from the previous range (burgers, desserts…even the ones they had a few months ago tasted (and lookedpretty different this time. It’s a shame as they had a great offer in the past and now it’s kind of a meh bistro pub.
My favourite restaurant in London. Limited but sumptuous vegan/veggie options for mains but we had the Fried Green Tomato Poboy and Aubergine Jamabalaya and they were unforgettable (plus salad)! The speakeasy vibe was unmatched and the whole interior really painted a picture of NOLA via London. All significant occasions will now be held at Plaq! Definitely need to catch some live music too.
Really enjoyed this colourful pub with its busy and chatty atmosphere. The staff were very friendly, food was tasty and drinks were reasonably priced.
Such an original spot in London. Great food, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Allergy friendly. I definitely recommend it!
From warm welcome to see you again sending off all was spot on!!!! I celebrated my 41st birthday with a group of 10 friends and my 4months baby during Jazz hours on Saturday, the place was airy, spotless clean, Steve (the managergreeted us with a warm smile and all the staff members maintained their attention throughout the evening! All of us had a laidback yet uplifting, high standard memorable experience. Oysters were fresh, so was the rest of the food. Jazz singer Louisa added unforgettable enjoyable ambience. I was overwhelmed with interesting drawing on the walls and tries to take it all in whilst there ( even the toilet was picture fun perfect😜)but will have to come back to get it all in. Loved every second of our time at Plaquemine. I am sure I and my friends will return there many times and recommend to others. Thank you
Transported from the Louisiana bayou to Islington. A fine place with an eclectic choice of beers on keg and an American Pale Ale on cask, room for another cask but not used in these uncertain times, wise, very wise. A great looking Cajun inspired menu. A lovely location and Oyster candles. Live jazz is clearly a feature but some fun early R&R playing on the system today. A great bit of fun next to the canal. Do visit, you will enjoy!
Really impressed by the Plaquemine Lock. Saw it had been given a Bib by Michelin and thought it was different from a lot of stuff out there so decided to give it a try. Food was great, things Id never normally order delivered - and all things considered I thought it was well worth the money. Over ordered as there was so much I wanted to try, but the staff were really friendly, and I didnt at any point feel rushed. Local friendly pub vibe, with live music (which Ill be back forand some food that transports you to New Orleans.
Fantastic food, great cocktails and perfect service by friendly staff :Plaquemine Lock is a must go!
What can I say about the Plaque-y, in one word, NOrleans. On a chilly but sunny Saturday eve in spring, the missus and I took a trip down Bourbon Street in Islington. Piping hot spicy shrimp beignets, cheesy and garlicky oyster heaven, fluffy cornbread, packed out Po-boys and several cocktails later we were left wondering why we hadnt discovered this hidden gem earlier. Watching the passers by on a prime piece of real estate topped it off, will certainly be back, sooner rather than later.
Lovely exterior and location by the canal. Interior could do with a little bit more organizing but it has its own character. Food was not bad but could do with more although the serving is quite generous. Had a bit of a wait during visit but I understand it was a busy Sunday lunch.
Lovely location by the river and a bit away from Angel high street. Fairly busy but social distanced Friday night booking. Food was interesting if not as bursting with flavour as Id hoped. Staff were friendly and attentive.
Delicious Creole food unlike anything weve teied before. Such a great experience of taste and service.
I just came from New Orleans. The fried green tomatoes and remoulade were ok. Hurricane didn’t have enough alcohol. “Shrimp and grits” tasted ok but not real grits - lumpy substitute. That is NOT American cornbread. Wish they had bbq shrimp and chargrilled oysters on the menu
For the first time visiting a Creole restaurant Plaquemine Lock has set the bar really high. The staff were friendly and very helpful with any questions we had. The food tastes fantastic and I would suggest you get the pecan pie for dessert!
Delicious food, fantastic staff, great atmosphere, and wonderful live jazz... what more could you ask for? Definitely reminds me of being in New Orleans and all the fun (and delicioustimes I had there.... and most delicious pecan pie EVER. Thank you!!
Stopped in for drinks, jazz, and some Louisiana style cookin’. Food was really good - crawfish boil, seafood fritto, cornbread, and Cajun cracklins. All of it was delicious, but them cracklins’ blew our mind. Drinks were top notch too - mint julep, sazerac, and bloody marys. Bloody Mary’s were top notch and the Sazerac was boozy and went down nice. Live jazz started at 14:00 (Saturdayand was excellent. Highly recommend.
Went for the Jazz brunch on Sunday. 2 courses for £20 or 3 for £25. The jambalaya was nice but want to try it with seafood. The pecan pie was hard to eat, it was very tough to cut.
We discovered this place by chance, and thoroughly enjoyed our late lunch on a Sunday afternoon (although the menu was the brunch menu).Having been to New Orleans before, we both felt the food here really hit the same notes as anything we’d eaten over there; I had the delicious eggs Sardou, while my partner had the fried chicken with cornbread French toast. For dessert we had the pecan pie, and the beignets, both of which were excellent.Service was friendly but could have been faster and more attentive, however overall we had such a nice meal that we’re keen to return soon.
If you want great quality casian food with real friendly service, then this is your place.A great selection of beers and cocktails! We shared 2 platters between 5 people and that was the perfect amount of food to still have room for dessert.
Excellent Louisianan food! Brings you back to America minus the grease and in palatable portions! Good jazz nights and music events! Definitely a must visit if you are living around angel and one to call your local!
Great local pub, decoration, food and amazing cakes! We went at lunch time and wasnt pack but we saw the staff setting the tables for dinner and was all booked since 6pm. The Hurricane cocktail is delicious as well as the Poboy - baguette filled with either fried shrimp, beef etc. Vegetarian option available as well as other cocktails, food and of course the usual pub beers. Dont miss the strawberry cake!
