Der große Platz bildet das Ende der Avenue Habib Bourghiba und den Beginn der Medina. Markiert wird dieser Übergang von Neustadt zu Altstadt durch das antike Stadttor, BabElBhar oder Porte der France, das sich mächtig in der Mitte erhebt und im Ramadan rot illuminiert war, von Menschenmassen am späten Abend umgeben, während der Platz noch wenige Stunden zuvor fast menschenleer ungewohnt ruhig dalag.Umgeben ist der Platz vom Traditionshotel Victoria, Läden und Cafés.Außerhalb des Ramadan der belebteste Platz der Hauptstadt, wo sich Händler und Käufer drängen, sehr interessant.

Bab el Bhar ("the sea gate"), also known as Porte De France (the gate of France), is a city gate in Tunis, the capital of Tunisia. It marks the separation between the Medina of Tunis and the European city. The gate is made up of a lowered archway and topped by a crenellated parapet.

Nagyon szép állapotban lévő épületek csak elképesztő sok ember tömeg van a téren. A francia építészeti remekművei. Az egészben csak az a kiábrándító, hogy mindenhol sok a szemét. De ez egész Tuneziara jellemző.

On peut aussi accéder au souk de la Commission à partir de son côté méridional.- La place est dominée par Bab El Bhar, lune des portes de la médina. Avant son transfert, lambassade du Royaume-Uni est également installée sur la place.

Pewnie strategiczne miejsce Tunisu, połączenie nowego Tunisu z Tunis Medina (Stare Miasto). Wokół bardzo dużo mały tematycznych sklepików – suków. Wszędzie roznoszą się zapachy arabskich przypraw. Słychać też nawoływania mułłów na modlitwę.

Marvelous busy square with wonderful landmarks. The old city gate is still a witness of the walls that protected the city for centuries. Its a place where the old and modern worlds meet. To cut the chase short, its the place where you wanna be right now.

This is a pedestrian hub at one of the entrances to the medina in Tunis. Also the location of the Bab El Bhar or Porte De France, the gate which serves no function other than to broadly deliniate the old (medinafrom the new town, as laid out by French colonists. Its an area thats bustling in the evening with cafés on two sides and the souk spills out onto the paved area during the day.

This is a good place to start in Tunis for Souk, hotel and food.

If you need to meet someone in the center of Tunis this is a good landmark. Relax at a nearby cafe (there are manyuntil your appointment arrives.It is a convenient entry point for the Medina, and also a starting point for a walk along Ave. Bourgiba, with its innumerable cafes. The street level seating may not look attractive, but upstairs is usually more elegant.

Great plaza. The heart of Tunis as its the middle of the middle age city (medina of Tunisand the modern city (French style downtown). There are pubs and cafes around it and having a morning coffee there before wandering in the Medina is a must.
