Pirate Chips - Seafood restaurant in Nanaimo, Canada
I loved it the ladies were amazing better get there quick before they go june26 rate 100 out 10 thank you so much we love coming there had the bestest experience
The owner was amazing. My fiance and I both had the fish and chips and loved it. Sad to see this hidden gem go.
$30 for a single pulled pork poutine. They claimed theyd added extra fries and cheese curds. Counted about six curds total. Fries were their regular single portion. Dont rip your customers off and then lie to them, guys.
The fish and chips are good buy unfortunately the deep fried cheesecake did not meet the expectations the filling part was all but gone, maybe should have been more frozen before frying.
Lovely helpful staff and great deal on all you can eat fish and chips. The fries are the best too! Sorry, I took your pen.
We went there a couple days ago. The stuff is very friendly and even told us some stories about the city and the things you can find on the beaches. The food was very good! One of the best fish n chips I ever had. By the way the portions are very big.
Fantastic food, great service, excellent portions. The deep fried ice cream was phenomenal. Tons of respect for owner who has stood her ground on not discriminating entry.
An all around positive experience.Something for every palette here. They even had Gluten free fish and chips and vegan options too!Don’t forget to save room for the deserts.Take a good look around at the decor, it’s fun and eclecticA large patio out front too!
Such a great atmosphere! So happy that there is this little gem in Nanaimo. The fish and chips are delish and the deep fried Nanaimo bars are soooo decadent and soooooo worth it
The best gluten free fish & chips! Deep fried Nanaimo bar was also incredible. Staff was incredibly kind and the whole family enjoyed their lunch. Thank you!
Good family restaurant. They really, really care about kids, and it’s a great family-run place. Fun atmosphere. Service was unfortunately a bit slow, but it was the lunch rush, so honestly it’s not a huge deal. Portions are massive and filling, too. Really liked their fries— the fish was lacking seasoning, but plenty was provided on the side for us to season to our liking. Good stuff!
Very friendly and welcoming staff. I ordered the cod fish and chips, and when it was brought out, they werent satisfied with the size of one of the fish they served me so they brought out a second plate for free. So generous and cute, the first portion was actually more than enough for me.It feels like an old school diner inside with a pirate ship theme. Charming ambiance. Also right in front of a bus stop to the Departure Bay ferry terminal.
I came for fish and chips and I was not disappointed. To my surprise they offered all you can eat cod fish and chips. I was even more excited !! Staff was great and welcoming. Food was delicious, did not taste heavy on the oil. The cod and the batter was tasty and the make vinegar came in a spray bottle which was awesome and cute in its own way.
By far my favorite restaurant in Nanaimo. This is the most non discriminating place in this city and we will continue to drive up here during these expensive gas prices just to support this small business, as I live in Victoria! Super sweet food and amazing company!
Had lunch here while visiting with our youngest. Service was fast food was amazing had the cod - fish and chips and wife had the beet salad. And everyone was absolutely wonderful.
Just came here for the first time and it was fantastic... not only was the food really good with large portions, it was awesome how non-judgmental and super welcoming the staff was. We will definitely be repeat customers! More places should follow suit like these guys.
Friendly Staff. Amazing Food! We will definitely be going there again! 😁
Amazing fish and chips... light, almost tempura batter. Really quite excellent! Fantastic friendly staff and management - they really made us feel welcome. Deep fried Nanaimo bars were good, but we were blown away by the "monkey brains 🧠." Who knew? Oh, theyre avocado stuffed with shrimp and other goodies.Definitely a huge part of the local community and I can see why! We WILL be back.
Everyone welcome! Homemade delicious food. Great service, fun atmosphere. Try the deep fried candy bars!
We had an absolutely amazing experience here!! We had such great food and loved how friendly the staff were! We purchased a clock right off the wall since we fell in love with it and the manager was amazing and let us take it home at a VERY reasonable price!! I would highly highly recommend this place without a doubt. I promise you wont be disappointed! Thanks so much again to the wonderful staff!!
I am glad we made this stop to eat. The place was fun, staff were friendly and their deep fried desserts our drool worthy. Would definitely recommend.
Thank you TravelXP for featuring this restaurant! Cool decor with very friendly staff. Kudos to Angela for sharing tips where to go to while in the island. Don’t forget to get the fried Nanaimo bar! Will definitely be back!
Healthy options from a fish and chips restaurant seems like a tall order, but I was very surprised at the quality and great keto meal I got. The salad was a really great spring mix, the coleslaw on my lettuce wrap burger was made with Apple Cider Vinegar and the burger itself was soooo juicy. Surprisingly, I felt like this was the best meal we had on the island during our weekend trip. Obviously, others love this place as well, because it was hopping! Love that they dont ask for vaccine passports. Vaccinated or not, that is a terrible affront to civil liberties. Super friendly staff. Cant recommend highly enough.
Drove from Victoria to try out the restaurant and was worth the drive!! Great food!! Great prices!! Fish was not greasy (which I prefer). Huge portion (almost didnt finishStaff is wonderful and kind. Will definitely be back when I come to town again.
On a busy Saturday night this was the only place we could find short of chain restaurant fast food that was even willing to offer on the spot take out.We had the fish and chips and it was cooked to perfectly. The batter was good and none of it was to greasy.Sadly we were given a cucumber salad thing instead of coleslaw. Does not compliment fish and chips at all.
Was an amazing experience! The owner is hand on, incredibly friendly and this small business deserves a visit! The monkey brains were so tasty! The all you can eat fish and chips are a bonus. You cant eat the first generous serving anyway! Topped it off with deep fried cheesecake! I am changing my ways because Im sure this is what they have in heaven. A must visit!
Ive been to Pirate Chips a few times and overall the experience is usually pretty good! The food is the best part. I love how creative the menu is, especially with the desserts. The staff are usually quite outgoing and friendly although the last time we were there, our servers didnt really talk to us (besides the standard questionsand they didnt look very happy. Other than that, great restaurant, great location. One of the best places to eat in Nanaimo!
Had the Cod fish & chips. It was ok, nothing special.Portion was good.Other foods going by looked good.Never had vinegar served in aspray bottle bottle.Much prefer a shake bottle.Prices were good.
The food menu is really good. Tonnes of choice with some interesting things. Not just deep fried Mars bars or fish n chips. Although they do all-you-can-eat fish n chips....So Ill be back another time for sure.As always though, dessert here is a must. And as predictable as I am, I go with the old school deep fried Mars bar.Ive been visiting them since they were near Acme Foods.Theyre licenced too, so you can stop by for a few drinks after work.Staff are always super friendly. A real gem.
Great service and great dessert. Very decent prices, should be an option to give 6/5 stars. Just wonderful.
This place has the best ever Nanaimo Bar!! It’s deep fried and served with vanilla ice cream, fresh whipped cream and chocolate sauce!! The owner is right, this has forever ruined the regular original Nanaimo Bar for me.
Super yummy fish and chips with great service and fast serving time! Great value with huge portions!
We came for the gluten free options. However the gluten free fish and chips were mediocre. The batter just didnt get crispy at all. But the sizes were gigantic and we were stuffed. The gluten free smores on the otherhand were divine. Also the hours on the website and the hours posted on their building were not the same. Website was correct they opened at 3.
Good services and deliciously decedent food. Cute and cozy atmosphere. Definately would go again. I had the Poutine with love and the deep fried cheesecake...so much food coma...
Love the atmosphere and aesthetic feel of this place! Poutine is massive! Lots of extras you wont find anywhere else like deep fried chocolate bars.
Fun decoration, friendly service. We were here for the Nanaimo bar deep fried. It was yummy but I wish there was more ice cream.
This is the perfect spot to take the kids. The tartar sauce was amazing, coleslaw was one of a kind and the portions were very generous.
Killed it, as far as Im concerned that is the best fish and chips I have ever had, restaurant had a cool vibe, our server was super cool. I ate ENTIRELY TOO MUCH but Im ok with that. I WILL return 100% and next time I will allow room for the dessert menu. Best Sunday day food .. hell yes
Had a great dinner here. Fabulous and fun venue with lots of tasty seafood. Also enjoyed the deep-fried Nanaimo bar - was delicious!! Had the clams, squid and coleslaw -which was also yummy!!Enjoyed our beers and chatting with the staff who gave us lots of travel tips. Highly recommend a visit!!
Great fried clams, fries and prawns, very cool decor and comfortable seating. Fast and friendly service
The food was very good. I had the haddock and chips, the seafood appetizer and the deep fried nanaimo bar. All of it was fantastic except the fries which were fairly boring. Would be nice if they were crispier and seasoned.
The best seafood for a long time. Great fish and chips and an awesome clam chowder! Thanks for the great service by also speeding up our order
Great service. We were only here for dessert. The deep-fried Nanaimo bar was good and could be even better with more icecream& less whipped cream. Lots of other deep fried options available that looked equally delicious. Cool merchandise with funny pirate theme phrases.
Perfection! 10/10. this place knocked it out of the park. Crispy batter, flakey deliciousness, fries are crunchy. Don’t hesitate. We had the halibut.
Calamari was a little on the expensive side... but lots of GREAT tzatziki- all the food was great! Love the decor... and the vinegar in spray bottles - why didnt I think of that?!?!
Cool decor. Tasty fish and chips. The deep fried Nanaimo bar was very sweet. Fun to try for sure.
Drove from Campbell River down to Naniamo, Vancouver Island. Saw the sign advertising Fish & Chips and I was hooked. On Front Street, stones throw from the boat marina. The views from the patio are great and so is the food. The shop has a pirate theme.
Fantastic pirate themed restaurant right near the Nanaimo harbour. The decorations are really cool and the atmosphere is fun. Small establishment and they still managed to put a childrens play area on one side. I guess a lot of young families go there.I had the Deep fried Nanaimo Bar, which was amazing. I highly recommend ordering it, but perhaps share it with one other person as it is a lot of calories.
Dedicated gluten-free deep fryer for fish and chips.Fair selection of local and imported beers.Fast and friendly service.Reasonably priced for good sized portions.
Being our first time in Nanaimo we decided to try this restaurant after reading some of the reviews and well being totally fair our experience was a little under whelming. Though the service was very good my burger was grilled to the point where all i could taste was charred meat. The chilli cheese fries were ok but they needed more chilli and salt and alot less cumin. That was all i could taste so I tried to drown it out with ketchup but it didnt work. My wife told me that her chowder was delicious but the prawn salad was again a little underwhelming. Neither of us are food critics but we know what tastes good and unfortunately we wont be returning to Pirate Chips on future visits. We hope that your experience is better than ours.
