Great music - thanks Turnpike. It was the only reason we went and we enjoyed the food too.

One of the best Caesars I have ever had (and I have had them everywhere). Nothing special about it, just spicy and GOOD. Foods always good and the patio is one of my go tos because its dog friendly ! Always so many lovely pups there plus can go for a walk at the lagoon after a couple drinks 😎 Perfect way to spend a summer evening.

They served the best beef dip Ive ever had!!!!

I stop there for lunch on a Friday. Service and food were excellent.

Decor was good. Background Music was ok. Prices are a wee bit higher than other places with more attention to the food prep. Waitress was exceptional and likely the best part of the visit. Food was mediocre and could have been so much better with minimal effort.

I have experienced Pipers Pub throughout its many renditions and changes of ownership throughout the years and that is just context so does not reflect whom is currently operating it other than that.I cannot actually review because we were told their liquor license is now changed and does not allow minors so we had to leave and not eat here, even though weve done multiple times previously with "a minor".Historically this place has struggled, hence the multiple changes of ownership/ management so I just dont understand why a "pub" that is in essence, the only "neighbourhood pub" in this area for a fair distance would opt or allow a license change to this degree? I mean, a daycare is now being run in the opposite corner of the parking lot.We came here expecting to eat a nice early dinner as usual but were instead metaphorically ushered to the door.I dont understand the decision. Late night? Sure. Fill your boots and your cavernous most times empty pub.

Far away and lots of room slow on service however they where very busy,good beer.

After a long day of travel, husband and I were wanting to relax somewhere that accepted furry animals (our doggo, not us!). Checking out some reviews, we also called ahead and checked out Pipers Pub on Hammond Bay.The person that answered was very helpful in letting us know that the restaurant did allow dogs on their patio.We got there around 7pm, and it was good to see lots of people were already having a meal. We were allowed to pick our seats, and our dog followed along.Points that day:Lots of parkingNear a liquor storeLarge space insideLive music on Saturday eveningMenu seemed standard, but solid on details.Customize options are available, especially for the burger selection.I got the macaroni and cheese with bacon as add on. The husband got a chicken burger, which I had a taste of.Chicken Burger: nice combination with the bun, seemed like a brioche. The chicken was good, not too heavy on the batter (not usually my pick, but it was perfect for my husband). Husband said the fries "had a type of coating", adds "extra texture" that made the fries crispy.Mac and cheese: it was cheese enough for me- I liked the add-on suggested to us by Nick, which was the bacon. Really added extra saltiness but savory in flavor. I like bacon though, so I may be biased. I dont recoend the cheesiness and bacon for anyone watching cholesterol levels though! If you need to, I will reassure, its not greasy. The bread was my favorite, it had this sweetness that Im sure Im not describing properly.Overall, they made us feel welcome, even with our dog. Great service for that. Communication was clear, Food wasnt too long of a wait, and we were quite hungry.I would come back again.

Excellent produce, lots of selection, very fresh. Fresh cuts of meat and lots of choice. And fairly decent prices compared to competitors. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this product to all my friends and family

I have been twice, the first time I was pleasantly surprised and had a good meal (meatloaf). I went a few days ago and it was not very good. The wings were over cooked and the beef dip was underwhelming and average at best. Perhaps its just a matter of ordering the right thing??

Oh how much potential this place has as a local Lunch & Dinner spot for the Hammond Bay community. Unfortunately its always squashed by the small skinny waitress with the dark bun pulled too tight. 4 separate times I had to get up from the outside patio and get my missing items. Forgot my Beer, then after 20 minutes and she not coming back to check on my food, I went to get it from the bar tender inside. She also forgot my Gravy, my friends Wine (the second glass after the first one she brought me was spoiled), and walking by multiple times without clearing our numerous dishes. Reluctantly I have her a 10$ tip because I have morals, but it hurt to give it to her. I feel without her, the place would run much more smoothly. Rumour has it theres new management coming soon, and I say first thing as new management is to fire her.

Wednesday nights are an absolute gong show if you want food. Waited an hour and a half for food and found out it still wasnt being made so we left. Drinks were okay. Service was mediocre, only because they need more staff for Wednesdays. Ridiculous! Wont be back!

Only good thing about this pub was dogs allowed on the patio.Food was basic, not particularly good value and.the service was horrible.After waiting 15 minutes to get a drink, we never saw the server again. We had to get the attention of a table clearer to take a food order. Then again we had we had to do the same for a bill.Was overcharged for drinks.Will not be going again.

Food was a bit slow coming out. Food was ok, prices were a little higher, but good location.

They make a great caesar, food is ok. Doesn’t have a cozy warm pub feel though.5-22 Caesar salad good, steak bites more tasty than tender but ok.

Out for an afternoon brunch, only down the road from us, havent been since the new ownership. We loved it! We split the traditional breakfast, best hashbrowns and the scrambled eggs were great, which isnt always easy. We decided to get the .55cent prawns omg... so tender and cooked perfectly! Going to come back and try the Wednesday wings!*edit May 4th * Wings are now $8.50 for 10 ☺

Slooooooooooooooow service AND a hair in my food. Went early on a Saturday. Service was ridiculously slow despite the fact the place was not even half full. Eventually just went up to the bar to get our drinks. Salmon was (the evening’s specialwas cooked to absolute death and then I found a hair underneath it. Hard pass on this place.

Best chowder I’ve had in years. Fast and accomodating staff (thank you Ashleigh), good suggestions. Loved the area, the high ceilings, and the basalt columns.

What a delightful neighbourhood pub. My first time there was met by friendly, efficient and caring staff. Menu items can be modified, dishes are carefully prepared and made from scratch.... There is a delightful crowd that is welcoming and theres just an over all feel of comfort and ease in this establishment. Large spaces to chill with good vibes and can easily accommodate large groups if needed, will be returning to this awesome neighborhood pub with a great selection of local taps to quench ones appetite

Mmmm......Beer! How I love thee! Great atmosphere in this place. Friendly staff and good food & beer selection at good prices. Hopefully post co-vid bring back some live entertainment. I will critique 1 thing, better TVs for the bar stool fellas would be appreciated.

Our dinner was good, but extremely disappointed in that there is no Vaccinations check. We are a group of seniors in a risk group. All of us have had booster shot and with the Christmas parties in there not once did we see anyone ask anyone about Vaccinations Proof.. I think rules are rules and we should have the right to feel protected. If not then a huge fine should be issued or closedown

I have to be honest. Throughout the multiple owners of Pipers, Ive had little luck on either good food or good service. Or both. The location is great for those out in the middle of Hammond Bay Road. The building itself is large, open with a nice outdoor seating area. If you are looking for someplace close to home with a decent selection of beer, then give it a try. Hopefully your experience is better than mine.

Best beer prices if youre just looking for a few pints! Food is very mediocre. Steak was extremely dry and the prawns was no better than what you could buy at Save On for half the price. Go for the drinks and the service, not the food!

We are regular lunch patrons of Pipers but today tried the pub for an early dinner - big mistake! There were off-duty girls there drinking at the bar and carrying on like wild women, screaming and howling. It was very distracting when we are there for a quiet meal. The food was good and served promptly, but we couldnt get out of there fast enough because of the noise.

Beer was good and service was ok. The wings were lacking in flavor and not very good. The calamari was greasy and both items were overpriced for what we received. The bill was $60 for 2 lackluster appetizers and 4 pints of beer.

We werent sure what to expect, and had fairly low expectations, but went to Pipers Pub strictly because we couldnt find a place that was open on a Monday night...but what a pleasant surprise it was when we went in!The service was fantastic - friendly and knowledgeable (great recommendation with the Philly beef dip!), and a really good collection of local taps.Great selection of gluten free and vegetarian options, and apparently the chicken burger on a gluten free bun was pretty awesome.From a pandemic perspective, three were lots of safety measures in place - great spacing between tables, contact tracing, masks when not seated, and we had our vaccine passports checked (a first).No complaints whatsoever - well be back!!

Beautiful building. Big comfy seats inside. It was probably around 5ish. The wait for drinks was pretty long. The wait to get our order in was even longer. Its older folks dinner time, but there were still lots of empty tables and with them spaced out, so I dont know how busy it really was. Oh well.The food was pretty good, massive portion, but the price reflected it.Would go again but with more time to spare.

Attended there on July 3 for dinner with 4 other couples. 1- dinner soup came less than warm, prime rib was luke warm ,fatty, no gravy and yorkshire pudding was hard. Poor service as waitress had to be called over for water ,coffee and she never paid attention to our needs. Another couple had their meat overcooked twice and she was not charged for that effort. There were about 20 customers so no need for all of the above. what is wrong with food quality in most restaurants ? Hard to find a quality restaurant in Nanaimo. Our first visit there was about 1 month ago and food was ok.

Came here while in the Hammond Bay Area, around dinner time. Was right before peak busy time, and restaurant was fairly empty. Ordered a drink but had to ask twice for a food menu. Throughout the visit staff were fairly unengaged and didn’t really check in for how the food/drinks were. Food was not terrible and typical pub fare. However there was a foreign piece of food in my salad which ended up being what looked to be a raw piece of bacon or some other unknown bit of food. Was offered a free cheesecake , which wasn’t that great. Overall it wasn’t the most terrible experience I’ve had but I doubt I’ll be back. If you don’t live in the area there are much better options in Nanaimo.

Great atmosphere, very covid-safe and excellent staff! It was quite busy, but our server was amazing and got our drinks to us super fast. The girl who was running the food remembered to bring me an extra side of honey mustard too. Very happy with my food, drinks and service.

Nice, spacious establishment, so very Covid friendly. Or dine outdoors, lots of room outside.Food is reasonably priced and is very tasty 😋I have tried many Greek salads over the years and must say, Pipers has one of the best salads yet! Good food, great service!

Went here on a rainy night for supper. Lots of people in, always a good sign! Had our concerns when the server forgot our clamato juice with our liquor order, didnt know what the soup of the day was and didnt right our order down, but it wasnt justified. The food was delicious and exactly what we ordered. The French onion soup was one of the best that Ive had, even the hubby liked it and he hates onions! The steak was cooked just the way I like and was very tender. Hubby had the crispy chicken clubhouse and aside from the bread not being toasted enough for him, he said it was quite good. Yam fries were an upgrade from regular fries for $3 more and they were good and plentiful. I had a glass of house white wine and hubby had a bottle of beer and clamato. Total with taxes but before tip was just over $55. Definitely going back here.

Got a table right away on Sunday evening, the pub was following the covid protocols and not crowded at all. The cocktails were good and omg the best nachos I had.

My wife and I enjoyed lunch there yesterday. My wife had one piece halibut and chips. I had one of Pipers three daily $12 steak specials, the steak and eggs. Service was excellent, fast but not intrusive. The food was great and a big shout out to the chef on nailing the blue rare on my steak, not an easy task with a less than inch thick steak. We will be having lunch there again.

Not what I was expecting, its a cavernous sports bar, not a quaint neighbourhood pub.Pros; great selection of craft beers on tap, not found elsewhere in the area; lots of TV screens (for those who like watching sports).Cons; poor service; dirty, just average food, nothing to come back for.Details; When we arrived it took several minutes to be acknowledged and given menus. We were not offered drinks, which is normally common when given menus. It took another 10 minutes for the server to finally ask what drinks we wanted, despite walking past our table several times, while clearing other tables (it was not busy). The 2 servers on duty appeared quite bored and disinterested in helping anyone or doing anything. There appeared to be a lack of pride of ownership in this establishment, as the dust was quite thick on the dividers between the banquette along the wall (see photo).

That was the first time Ive ever been to Pipers Pub and it was one of the way better pubs in Nanaimo. Great Bartender. Without even asking, the bartender made my girlfriend "one of the best drinks Ive ever tasted!". The drink was very well done - Definetly professional. I wish we asked for the name of the purple hazzy drink. We both liked the layed back atmosphere of Pipers Pub as well. I recommend Pipers Pub to anyone who enjoys a clean, well-serviced place to drink and eat. I will be going back again without a doubt. If anyone wants to try a great drink, show this picture to the bartender.

Pipers pub is our go-pub . lts a really nice pub . Good service , Good food . Its just a nice down to earth old pub. We went to the New Years eve masquerade party. It was a blast . 😁

Ok. Second time around, and tried the one piece cod and chips. The piece was by no means big, but it was obvious that this was indeed a real fish tail piece. It was tasty, and the coating was light. I really enjoyed the fries, since they had an extra crispy coating on them. I would have preferred the coleslaw to be a bit creamier, and tangier. Overall a good meal for under $10.
