Pieminister - Pie shop in Acocks Green, United Kingdom
Lovely and attentive staff, caters to diverse dietary requirements and the food is top notch!
Centrally located, very friendly and welcoming. Loads of vegetarian, vegan options. Good value, good portion size. Suggest pre -booking .
Friendly good staff, good service, hot food, would liked to have seen more vegetables on the plate.
I just finished eating the best pie ever and felt the need to write this review. Definitely recommend this place, food is amazing and staff is extremely kind and helpful
Great pies, great staff and lovely atmosphere . They also serve a delicious pot of tea.
Lovely place lovely pies vegetarian option tooGreat cocktails 2 for 1
Excellent. Delicious gluten free pie and smashed potatoes with gravy. Fast and kind service. Strongly recommended!
Such a little gem, great quality and value!
Only noticed this place walking down to the town hall and glad i did, really good food, simple decor without being pretentious & lovely service. Will be visting them again, their sunday special is really good
Id say the food here was average. The pie was nice and the mash. There wasnt much mash. Not really much choice for meat eaters. All puddings were Ice cream, which I dont eat as Ive got sensitive teeth. I was hoping for some pie pudding choices (apple or cherry?). The floor is horrible and it feels a bit like youre sitting in a garden shed. Not recommended for date night 😂
Lovely place just a short distance away from Victoria Square. The food & service was great as usual. It was nice that there was no pressure to eat & then leave as quickly as possible. Ive been here on a number of occasions & will return.
Really enjoyed our meal here. The staff member who served us was very welcoming, we were served quickly and the food was very tasty. Nice relaxed atmosphere too
Great food, really were the best pies weve ever eaten (homemade excluded). The team there were brilliant, bright and polite. They are fully accessible to someone like me in a wheelchair too. There are still too many places who cant be bothered with our custom.Thank you all.
Be careful if you have allergies - they laugh at the thought of potentially killing you.A group of us visited on a Sunday for lunch and were seated very quickly. We were instantly told that there were no peas or fries. I stated I was allergic to dairy but received dairy mash. I checked before eating with the waiter and he confirmed it was vegan mash. I was just about to eat it when the waiter causally asked if I had eaten any before telling me it’s wasn’t the vegan mash. He then joked about me dying, which we found quite insensitive. He then offered me a vegan dessert to make up for the dangerous mistake, which I didn’t end up eating. My meal was missing different bits even though they didn’t contain dairy so I had to keep asking for them. I wasn’t able to eat at the same time as my guests so had a very rushed meal. I was very disappointed with the experience and won’t be dining here again.
Really enjoyed my moolin rouge mothership and 2-4-1 on the cocktails was a bonus. I would recommend if you like pie! Vegan, veggie and gf options also available
Ive been to Pieminister a few times now and can never fault the food. However, I recently visited on a Tuesday afternoon at 2pm with my husband. We were offered the 2 stools at the window even though there was a table of 2 free. We asked if that was reserved and the waitress seemed to decide on the spot that it was so we reluctantly accepted the stools (not comfortable!). We had to wait 10 minutes to have our order taken, only to be told once we had placed our order that they had ran out of the pies we had chosen. We then waited 10 minutes for our drinks. We were then served our food at 2.50pm which was such an unacceptable wait and no apology when the food was brought over. Because of how long we had waited, we asked for our bill when we received our food. We finished our food and had still not received the bill so had to ask again. It was a really poor experience in terms of customer service with lengthy delays every step of the way so it was not enjoyable. A real shame as the food is good but it has put me off visiting this particular branch again.
Best pies ever great a gluten free range & vegan available as well as normal. Staff were very friendly quite when we where there Monday 13.00 not much parking in area but handy to find. Pie with peas gluten free beans normal.
Friendly efficient service. Chilled staff. Good prices. And.. Flipping delicious pies!!UPDATE 2022 with more photos. The Great pies continue! 🙂
I was really excited to try gluten free pie, but I was very disappointed. It was burnt and some of it was actually unbreakable. The non coeliacs in my group enjoyed their food, but all commented on how burnt and inedible mine looked. The filling was lovely, just the crust was not good.Service wasnt brilliant, felt like they forgot about us a lot, but it wasnt totally terrible.Edit: you "cant imagine" how two staff members missed it. Well evidently they did. You can insinuate Im lying all you like, but I have three other diners with me who saw. We wouldve sent it back if we were not in a rush due to the already slow service. We also werent checked upon at all, and had to walk up to the counter before I could even get servers attention to pay the bill.
We had a mixed experience really. When we arrived the table wasnt ready but the place was pretty empty, we waited while our table was cleaned but when we sat down I put my foot in some food that was left on the floor from the previous diners. The waitress was polite etc but she came over to take our order before she had even given us a menu to look at.There was a changeover of staff while we were seated and the waitress who brought our food took a shine to our 15month old daughter. Yes she is cute and yes she smiles at everyone, but after a while we felt a little uncomfortable. The waitress kept coming over and touching our daughters face and pinching her cheeks. Once was ok but four or five times was too much. She also kept trying to bring over ice cream for her which is something shes never had. After we had eaten ( and our daughter had grazed on bits of food from our platesshe brought her a bowl of fries. This is something we dont mind her having one or two of, but we try to limit these foods. Once they were on the table our daughter wanted them and was upset when we removed them. The waitress also kept returning to the table just to see our child, not for any other reason it felt like. When the bill came I asked the same waitress to round up to £50, giving a five quid tip. She actually said its better for us to pay the tip in cash! While that may be, its not appropriate to demand your tip be paid in a different way. Shes lucky I still added it.The food itself was gorgeous. Moolin rouge and a Heidi pie plus fries and mushy peas. The sundaes were also great but I couldnt finish it. Would recommend on the food front and the setting is nice.
Loved it. Awesome food and friendly staff. Will be returning soon
Taste 9/10 , presentation 10/10 , atmosphere 8/10 , value for money 10/10, This pie shop is one of the best experience I have come across definitely Wazzie approved : revisited the place and they kill it must visit place
Food was bland, these pies are not freshly made they are frozen and then microwaved. As food came out in less then 10 mins the only fresh thing on the plate were the peas and they looked like they were hanging on to life. (Extremely dry)The misses pie crust was hard on top and difficult to cut no wonder why they give real serrated knifes would not be safe for kids if she had a filling she would off lost it.The chips were stale and smelly like the crust on the pie, pair off socks I tell youDo not go to this place end of story
For starters all four of us picked something different; pigs in blankets, halloumi fries, kale & parsnip fritters. All three, plus the forth that I can’t remember, all tasted great & I wouldn’t change a thing. For main courses; I went for the Saag Pie-Neer (Paneer, potato, spinach, pea & chilli), which tasted like a classic Indian dish, the wife went for the Wild Shroom (A Portobello & chestnut mushroom, asparagus & white wine), which I’m told was very nice & would definitely have again.Unfortunately we were having to much of a good time with friends to take any pictures, but we will definitely take some next time if visiting another in the future.
Absolutely loved our meal here. Wed never been before and staff were friendly and helpful. Not too expensive- great value for money.Varied menu. Good vegan choices too. Great atmosphere and is comfortable. Staff didnt rush us once we had finished the meal.Pictures: patties, steak and kidney and mooless (jackfruit- vegan). Vegan pecan sundae
Great food at a decent price. The restaurant is functional and fit for purpose although not super comfortable. It is what it is; fast food pie. I had the Moo and Blue (steak and Stiltonwith chips and minty mushy peas, washed down with a pint of Pie.P.A. It was filling and delicious although it was lukewarm and the peas couldve been mintier (it that a word!?). Overall a good meal, Id visit again.
Relax, add mash and smash. If you ever visit Te Anau in the South Island of New Zealand you’ll find a pie shop named Miles Better Pies. After visiting it on 2 occasions I can confirm it makes the best pies, at this time of writing, in the world. A close second, but arguably a pudding, is the suet sensation named “The Steamer” from Oak on the Green in Bearsted, Kent. Why visit Pieminister? What it does do is offer a large choice of the baked packages in a relaxed, modern setting at very reasonable prices. The staff are attentive and helpful. The Italians have made espresso coffee part of their culture by making it accessible to the masses. Pieminister have done the same with humble pie.If you’re in a rush and need something hearty to fill the gap, get a pie down ya neck.
Came in for a lunch bite, around 1pm. Despite there being many tables free, the server had to check with the manager before seating us which took 5 mins. It was 4 degrees outside and we had baby with us, so it was frustrating they sat us right next to the open door entrance which we ended up closing.Service was really slow, despite seeing 4 waitresses on the floor and only around 5 other customers.I ordered the chicken and mushroom pie with mash and baked beans. The meal came with Gravy too which wasn’t mentioned in the menu, so it was a bit saucy. When our food arrived my mash was cold and pie was Luke warm. However the waitress never came back to check on us. The food overall was nice, aside from being cold. We also had the gin and elderflower cocktail that was on 241, this was nice, had a nice bite from the lemon. We also ordered water for the table, this never arrived. When we finished and wanted to pay and leave, we could see 3 members of staff including the manager having a chat, we stood up and put our coats on to leave. The staff and manager seeing this, still did not come over. Eventually, we had to ask them for the bill so we could leave. The staff member then asked if our meal was ok, when I mentioned the issue, she just said ok. Which made it seem pointless to mention as she disregarded it.The bill came to £30 for 2 mains with 2 sides and 2 alcoholic drinks, which feels quite reasonable. The food was nice and would come back. But definitely not for the poor service. The staff clearly had other personal matters to discuss together than serve customers, so we didn’t enjoy being there and the atmosphere was really quiet.
Really great little find. Super close to the New Street Train Station & the premiere inn.Lovely waitress & really yummy food!
What a great place, very busy indeed. Popped in for a beer and ended up having food which was unbelievably good. Beer was excellent too. Staff were very friendly and very busy which is probably why it took a while for my food to arrive. Other than that cannot fault the staff, food or the place itself. Definitely worth a visit. I will definitely be going back. Keep up the great work you are all doing.
As somebody who doesnt really like pies, Pieminister changed my mind. The pies are amazing, and the majority of the staff are really friendly, however there are a few things that let this branch down.Firstly, the manager is rude. I walked in one day and greeted her and she was extremely rude to me. Secondly, there arent any dessert pies- I know this may be a bit of pastry overload for some but youd think a pie restaurant would stock sweet pies for those who want them? There is also a large range of vegetarian and vegan pies, but this range isnt reflected in the meat pies. Youre limited to steak, steak and ale, steak and kidney, chicken and leek, and chicken and mushroom... there used to be other pies on the menu that were delicious, like the chicken, tomato, butter bean and olive pie that really extended the range of pies on offer, but theyve opted to make all the meat options boring and basic in the hopes people go vegetarian or vegan, which is a shame as this alienates customers. This is made even worse by the fact that multiple times when Ive been in, there has been MULTIPLE pies or sides not available because of stock issues. The other issue I have is that there is a great offer on 2 for 1 cocktails, but there are only a couple to choose from- most of which are quite savoury, so if you want a sweeter cocktail, again it doesnt cater to you.
Came here for lunch with my girlfriend after eating a big breakfast. She wasnt massively hungry so just wanted one of the small plates and opted for halloumi fries. On the menu it says one portion for £4 (I cant remember the exact priceand three for £10. The waitress explained if we ordered halloumi fries wed get 15. Not completely understanding what she meant, we explained we just wanted one plate and she told us wed get 15 fries.I come back from the toilet to find our food on the table. There were three plates of halloumi fries (5 each). Wed clearly been given the 3 for £10 option. At time of payment (baring in mind my girlfriend didnt eat most of the fries as there were so many), I asked the waitress why she essentially forced us to have more than we wanted. The way she explained it made it come across that you have to order the 3 plates and cannot buy them singularly. If this is the case when why have an individual price on the menu? We reluctantly paid the bill (including the £10 worth of halloumi friesand left. Additionally, I ordered a pint of beer which was at least 25% foam, which when youre paying £5 for a pint you at least want it to be mostly drinkable.Apart from this, the pie I had (the Kevinwas enjoyable and the mash potato and gravy were excellent. I dont usually have vegetatian pies, but I enjoyed this one quite a lot. Overall, I think I would return due to the quality of the food, however the service I received on this particular day left a lot to be desired.
Great little place, quite understated on Waterloo Street. Big thumbs up with service, food and the Pieminster Pie PA pint! Good choice/variety of carnivorous and vegetarian pies and sides! Although Im not friends with any vegetarians, Im pretty sure theyd like it here! 😂 1 pie, 2 sides: £9.50, or you can upgrade. Either/or, great tucker! 🍴
I like a good pie and mash as it is increasingly hard to find any restaurants selling British inspired menus. They have a wide range of pie options including vegan and vegetarian. The mash was really tasty and the gravy was luxurious without skin or lumps.
Lovely little restaurant situated in the heart of Birmingham by colmore row. Great location. 5 minute walk from snow hill train station and great table service. Pie’s are amazing, and the prices are very reasonable. Perfect!
As always pieminsters pies are perfect in my opinion some of the best pies Ever! We had two Sunday pies the cracker (festiveand the free ranger (classicyou get two Yorkshire pudding, a pig in blanket, mash potato, sweed and carrot mash, baby potatoes and the main show the pie! The service is always good and very quick 10 out of 10
This is my favourite place to go before a gig at the Town Hall. Its close to many attractions in the city centre, the staff are always friendly and accommodating, and the food is reliably fabulous. Great value for money, and multiple delicious accompaniments to your pie. Seasonal pies are good too (I had a veggie Christingle pie on my last visit, and it was delicious with some halloumi fries). Its a great option if you want casual sit down table service but not quite at a high end formal restaurant level. Highly recommended!
Despite the restaurant being quiet, I thoroughly enjoyed the food. As a vegetarian I was very delighted to see the array of veggie options this place had to offer. I got the "Mother Earth" deal and for £10 the serving sizes were great. I chose the Kevin pie and it was delicious. The dessert and the end was also fantastic and I would definitely come again!
Lovely pie and mashPrice was on the higher side but it’s a fairly good place with dine in so fair enoughStaff were okay but not great hence 4 stars
Great value well executed pie based restaurant. Cool casual vibe, good choice of pies, dudes and meal combinations. House lager excellent. Good friendly service. Recommended.
I went here with my mate and we absolutely loved the food! The pies were really tasty and well priced. Fries and gravy were also very good. The staff were friendly too. Would definitely recommend coming here for lunch.
I was part of a large group and we pre booked our visit a couple of weeks previous. We also submitted our food orders at the same time. I highly recommend this approach as we were seated quick, drinks and food came out very quick. Service was great overall. I had pork scratchings which were perfect and Moo and Blue which was very tasty. Overall I would highly recommend this place and would definitely visit again the next time Im in Birmingham.
I entered Pieminister and straight away loved the industrial style decor - which was softened by twinkly Christmas lights. We were served by attentive friendly staff. It was difficult to choose from the tempting menu. There was a good choice of vegetarian/vegan options so I plumped for the Chooks Away pie - it was delicious. My son had a chicken pie (cant remember the exact namewith loaded fries and gravy. He really enjoyed it and had no room for a pud, and neither did I ! Definitely will be visiting Pieminister again.
Having been to Pieminister in Leeds I thought I would check this one out while in Birmingham with my 6 year old daughter. I was a little wary about how good they would be for kids - they were brilliant. Food was great (as normaland service was too. Loved the kids menu - although my suggestion would be to allow kids to have peas AND gravy as part of the menu! What would be more awesome would be some mini pies for kids...
Didnt realise Pieminster has restaurants and absolutely loved the experience. The environment is nice, quick service and really good food. I went for one of the vegetarian "Heidi" pie (goats cheese, sweet potato and spinachwith mash and garden peas. The sparkling elderflower is well worth it!
Pies were lovely, its just a shame that they took 55 minutes to get to us, and that none of the staff thought to come and let us know that the wait would be that long. I would go back again, but only if I took a snack with me for the long wait.In reality, its probably easier to buy one of their pies from a supermarket and cook it yourself. Only takes half an hour!
visited during Pie Week and its what pie dreams are made of😍 Their mash was so smooth and mushy peas - a perfect accompaniment. 4 stars because the halloumi chips were chewy.
Good variety of flavors of pies, great attentive services. The first pint of beer was still and taste weird, they immediately offered to pull a fresh pint.
Absolutely lovely staff and nice interor. The pies are delicious with generous amount of gravy. Sides are pretty good as well. The food came very fast.
Great little pie restaurant with a great customisable menu. Really should be something for everyone with a wide selection of side. Actually found it really hard to choose as there were so many I wanted to try. Will have to come again to try different combos but this time we had the Matador pie with mash and chilli garden peas. All so fresh and tasty, the peas were amazing. Yes peas! We also had a green thai curry pie with mash and minty mushy peas. Again, really good flavours and a great twist on some iconic dishes. We also had pickle eggs, well worth a try if you like them or new to the pickle egg scene. A couple of the beers were off when we visited as they have only recently opened but would like to return to try them. Also watch out for splinters.
