Pickwick Mill Inc - Museum in Winona, United States
Impressive how well this mill has been authentically been restored. This mill has 6 stories, which makes it larger than most historical mills. For $7 per person the volunteer will give a 45-60 minute tour which includes turning on the water wheel, a video, and seeing all 6 floors. There is a natural waterfall nearby. Beware of bridge construction between the mill and the mill inn. Enter via Hwy 14, not I-90.
This is a must see! The history is really neat and the surrounding landscape around the mill is just beautiful!
Very interesting site to visit. Staff member was very knowledgeable about the history of the site along with being nice to talk to.
There is a 20 minute informative video that you can watch and there are six floors to see. There is no elevator only stairs. This place was interesting to see and explore.
Interesting historic mill. Worth a visit if you are in the area.
Beautiful location, interesting history. Well worth going!
A great historical stop. The mill is a real treasure. The hostess was helpful and friendly.
A lot of history is contained within the walls of the mill. I was fortunate enough to have a guided tour by a member of the Board of Directors. Theres so much additional information that I gained because of his knowledge and passion about the history of Pickwick Mill.
Wonderful history
Great place to visit! I hope to return again for a guided tour!
Very cool. You can explore all 6 levels of the mill and even walk down to the river to see some falls and a dam. Nice little museum on the fourth floor as well. We really enjoyed this stop. Probably only take 30 minutes or so to see everything.
Very interesting piece of history. Lived seeing the waterwheel in action
Nice historical site. Did not go in but was worth the stop.
Neat old place, nice picnic area.
Great to see some of the history that made us, great condition on structures, walk around at your own risk but soo worth it
Always liked seeing and knowing about old places. My girlfriend took me there for the very first time.. You can imagine the place when it was in operation all those years ago. Wont be my last time going there..
Beautiful place! Wonderful waterfalls!!
Fun little piece of history here. Bring a picnic and enjoy!
Beautiful setting in the country. Take a picnic lunch, ride your bike, quite a few steps if you canWorth the effort!
Interesting history of flour mill, paddle wheel still turns. Gem saved by the Pickwick Town.
Fabulous. I wish I caught the womans name who helped us, she was very accommodating and knowledgeable. Glad we stopped.
Beautiful place
Great historic grain mill. Incredibly satisfying to hear and feel the massive wheel still turn and think about how it must have felt to see, not just that, but all the belts, wheels, and augers move decades ago. Impressive to think that men built this without the help of construction vehicles.
Great historical mill and tour
Historic accurately restored grainmill. Fascinating history.
Really unique place. If you want to see and learn how a grist mill worked you can do this here. Its nice that you take the tour on your own. Bigger than you would think from the outside.
Fascinating working water wheel. Lots of steep stairs though for every level, something to keep in mind for anyone who is not prepared for a stair workout. Beautiful setting. Affordable admission. Interesting piece of history.
Super neat hidden gem. Similar to Phelps Mill in Otter Tail County.
Awesome 175 year old structure!
Nice place to stop and see waterfall and check out museum
You really get inside and see the operation. If you like tools and machinery, this is definitely for you
This is a fantastic historic place to visit. I love photographing the waterfall.
Historic feed and floor mill near Winona. All the equipment is still there and the water wheel works. The mill supplied 100 barrels a day to the UNION ARMY during the civil war.Great piece of Minnesota history.
Neat place we stumbled on while visiting my nephew in Minnesota. History of the old flour mill and how they powered it with the water wheel. Beautiful scenery! I highly recommend for the ones who love history or even taking a few great pictures.
Such an unique experience and friendly staff who are willing answer any question. The water wheel still runs and many old time pieces are on display. There is a video that goes over the history of the mill. Be ready to climb stairs as there are many levels in this historic place. Parking is also limited. Be sure to take the short walk to see the dam and the little waterfall.
Eh. 6 floors of dusty rooms and old stuff. No tour or explanations just a video played in front of a few metal chairs. Realistically we coul have paid, walked to the back deck to see the huge water wheel in motion and left.
Staff was very friendly. Fun to watch the working water wheel.
If you’re just passing through and have a little extra time, this place is so nice to stop into. So much history in this little tiny mill. There is a video to watch about all the things that have happened here in the years that it’s been open and you can tour through to see everything for yourself too.
Lots of interesting information about the old time flour mill. Loved the water wheel!
Awesome place to check out early MN agriculture history. The craftsmanship of the building structure is also well worth visiting also.
It is a beautiful place to visit. An excellent historical site. Great place for educational experience.
Was cool to see all the work that went into making flour. Our Ancestors were very smart & great ability
Very interesting antique wheat mill. Mill still operates under the power of a 20 foot water wheel.
Ill admit I am not that into mills & when my daughter said she wanted to watch the 20 minute video I was not excited. It was, however, very informative, & made more sense of the objects displayed on the many floors of the mill. Tour is all self-guided. I mostly just enjoy the water wheel and the dam & beautiful creek out front. Personal taste.
Interesting to see this historical place. Enjoyed the self guided tour. Definitely worth the unexpected stop and admission
Just a beautiful old historical mill.. good for a day out.
Great unique place to go! Highly recommend a visit!
Was ok. Outdated video to watch but you could wander around the place.
What a gem hidden not far off the road along the MS River in SE MN. The mill is 160+ years old and houses a fabulous museum as well as a working interior. 22 water wheel was rebuilt, along with much of the wooden interior, but they have all the working parts...working and many more period items on display. Well worth the short side trip and $5 donation. The volunteer when we visited, Vic, was full of info and very helpful. 15 minute video too.
Beautiful setting for the stone mill, complete with mill pond and waterfall. Interesting short documentary film and a fantastic 20 waterwheel that drives the rumbling millworks inside. Really enjoyed touring it!
