Phonox - Live music venue in Emerald, Australia
OK place, very crowded
Phonox is a great place that I enjoy coming to. HOWEVER, Christopher the boucner. He was a lovely man that not only made things safe. He ensured everyone was having a good time. Very unusual for a bouncer! well worth the effort of making a review. Which I have never done for a club. Big up Christopher! Give this man some appreciation.
I really enjoyed it here. Great music and vibe.
Thunderous low end sound system, friendly security and bar staff, nice seating and ample toilets - damn good night club offering a range of genres - puts others to shame!
Sound funktion One, very massive, love this club
A personale showed up Gestapo uniformed and started pushing down persons dancing. I tried to face the manager about it and just ignored my complaint. I think now more than ever showing no remorse towards this symbols is ...
Christopher the bouncer last night who went round and asked every man in the club if they were called Tim (and eventually found him), after he was told by a clubber that he’d lost his friend Tim who was in poor mental health and was worried for him. What a guy… above and beyond 💚 the world needs more Christophers.
DJ WAS CRAZY WITH THAT BEATS. Place is little bit small but in general its fun to go here.
Incredible venue absolutely love it. Our night was made by Jenifer, she is so attentive and lovely. Absolute gem of a human!!! 💎. Peace! ✌️
we went there as recommended by resident advisor, entrance fee was around 20 pound, the club is small and w bit claustrophobic, there is a small narroway to go down stairs for the cloakroom and toilets, cue was super long and miserable. The floors were really sticky, and the girl who works in the cloakroom that night ( sama abdulhadi was playing, was very rude to me and my friend just because she wouldnt give my friend her jacket because they only gave us one ticket for two jackets which wasnt our fault, she told us first to come back another day then said that maybe somebody took her jacket and that there was a long cue, I had to stay an hour talking to the people downstairs until one of the guys helped us and found it at around 4 am ! i understand that mistakes happen but there was no reason for her to just hush us away like that.
Legit, the best doormen ive encountered (im 31l. Christopher helped me get a taxi home. Really appreciate it, 100. Ill be back.
Not the best photo but we were meant to see Sherelle and the music preceding her was so bad (thumping bass with no elements of real music just DJs doing their own thing with only 2-3 instrument/soundsthat we left before she even came on, sad times, not the best venue, Brixton Jamm is wayyyyy better
Best nightclub in London, if not the world. Amazing programming, sound system, lights, vibe, staff, crowd. The whole experience is 10/10 x
Manages to avoid a lot of the pitfalls of London clubs. Staff friendly throughout. Definitely a great place to see your favourite DJ.
Great nye turned up late after 12.30 got let in no hassle great djs and felt like a really chilled venue with no issues from security or bar staff. Hidden gem for a decent rave
Phenomenal club. Super well run, well-ventilated, great relax areas, top DJs and a very good sound system (not too loud but loud enough). People are very chill and theres a great vibe overall
Absolutely class night at Phonox, and some of that was down to how good Palms Trax was but the club was great.Good points were the sound system was top notch, the space is great and never felt too crowded, the downstairs bar was a great wee chill out zone, bar prices were relatively cheap and never had to wait. Big thing that stood out was how sound the bouncers were. Best Ive experienced in a club ever and genuinely got the impression they were trying to look after people in there and contribute towards you having a good time.Drawbacks were the lack of free drinking water and the fact they closed the downstairs bar with a couple of hours to go. Even if it stopped selling drinks its an amazing chill out zone and had an extra toilet so its a big miss closing it, cant understand the logic.I cant wait to come back.
Playhouse Student: Really Friendly Staffs and Bouncers (SIA), to be honest i would thought they wouldnt let me in because i was 1 person and a guy but no, REALLY friendly and treat you with respect. Just watch out for Expensive drinks, Clean toilets and dance floor small. DJ was amazing.
Loved the club atmosphere, the music was kinda year 6 disco Tho. They did play Nicki Minaj so it was actually fine
An amazing underground venue with some great DJ! Downstairs area nice to relax from all the dancing!! I never had issues going there and always enjoyed my time.
First night on the dance floor in 18 months!! excellent set from ALFOS, felt safe and the vibe was really nice ..expensive bar!!
The place is spacious even when crowded. They offered coat check for 2£ which was convenient. The music was great, they were playing house the time I went and really enjoyed it. Drinks are standard prices but they do have a decent variety with plenty of bars and bartenders to go around.
Great venue in terms of layout and atmosphere and the sound system is a funktionone so no complaints there either. Security were great with their friendly approach. Drinks not too pricey. No complaints - Will definitely be looking for more nights out here!
One of my favourite clubs in London. The sound system is great and they have many different types of nights always with best in class djs.The vibe is great and security are nice.
Easily one of the best venues in London. Went to the Special Request all night long night recently, security staff were on point cracking jokes and making us feel welcome from the offset, club was crowded but the crowd was second to none, had no issues with anyone there everyone was simply enjoying the evening. Layout of the club is superb with many extra places like the stands or the sitting areas which are still close to the music. Downstairs is a little more of a calmer area if someone needs a sit down but speakers are linked to the music upstairs so you won’t miss a beat. Not oversold which is a huge plus. Also sound system is absolutely crackers, big ups for Phonox, will be returning.Edit: They also had some lovely incense burning on the way in which was a really nice touch to get everyone feeling relaxed.
Sound system definitely needs improvement. The sound was very plastic to put it like that. Just hire a sound engineer and make it sound much warmer. It was John Digweed playing so you can t tell me the DJ has a problem. Other than that the location is quite nice, the service is amazing, close to tube, security very nice and that is very rare in London.
One of the best club nights around. If youre into electronic music, the music will never fail to hit the spot, its always super good.Theres a great breakout bar downstairs for when you want a quieter experience too.Lastly, it doubles up also as a fantastic venue for DJ sets and gig nights. Had the pleasure of seeing Madlib at this venue and he was phenomenal. Highly recommended.
Its our fav club at Brixton, possibly the best. The music is always good and the sound system is amazing. They get lots of up and coming artists so most of the nights become quite interesting.
I cannot speak highly enough about this club. The sound quality is truly next level, they pull in the best names in the business. Providing an intimate experience centered around the music. One thing that I have to mention is how lovely the bouncers are in this venue. Customer service is often a facet of security that is overlooked, with bouncers often opting for a cold and aggressive demeanor. At Phonox the bouncers were efficient and friendly. So much so that the group I was with left a tip for them. I would recommend this venue to anyone with a love for electronic music. I for one will be back!
Was surprised and impressed by this place. There is a great downstairs bar so in between hitting the dance floor and smoking area you can actually sit down completely comfortably and chat. Also a big stand out point - the security and bar staff here are great, so much friendlier than at other electronic music venues. Its worth going for the Saturday night resident, Esa.
Really great club, they have a nice space on the side of the dance floor that is good to chill in when you need a break and a quieter downstairs bar. Can get very busy though.
Nice downstairs bar with lots of seats to hang out and take a break from the dancefloor. The dancefloor needs better airflow and is quite hot even on a cool winter evening. The speakers are okay but was at fabric the night before and you can tell the speakers here were far worse quality. Bathrooms quite dirty.
I only go to their Sunday day sessions so my rating is only for those events. The cloakroom queue is fast. The waits at the bar are minimal and the security are quick and efficient. Their Sunday bookings have been spectacular for a while now too. Would definitely recommend.
Good layout. Excellent sound. Relaxed and friendly.
Definitely deserves five stars, even though its not 100% perfect.Pro* Nice happy crowd, with an average age of about 20. They were quite accepting of us old farts.* Courteous bouncers, both outside and on the floor. They seemed OK with selfies, so I guess the selfie ban is an old policy that has been dropped.* Easy 2 minute queue at 11.30pm* More bartenders than you could shake a stick at, with 9 at the main bar and 3 more downstairs. Never any crowd to get served, even on a night with a headliner like DJ Sprinkles.* Fair pricing. £10 in advance for the door, £2 cloak room, and £5 single / £8 double spirits.* Clean toilets, and no queue for the ladies anytime in the night.Con* Good sound system that is loud enough, but is missing the bone rattling bass that I prefer.* Basement bar closed at 2am, so there was no chill out zone any more.
This nightclub has one of the best atmosphere in London. A must for any raver
Great night club, very intimate with a fantastic sound system. Theres a no photos on the dancefloor policy which really adds to the vibe where people are actually enjoying the music rather then taking pictures.
What a venue. I am a regular customer and the staff always greet me like I am one of their own. The music is fantastic, the lighting is even more mind blowing. Worth a mention that it has been nominated for the best small club in the UK. Very proud to call it my go-to club. Keep being you Phonox
Good venue. Gets packed out when its sold out though and theres little room to move. Most drinks £5. Cloak charges per item which is a bit rubbish when you can put a coat comfortably inside another...
This is a sick place to go out. The bouncers are really nice which is refreshing and the music is quality. Prices are reasonable but you have to know what to get. The venue doesnt have enough toilets when it is busy - this is my only complaint.
Phonox is a fantastic club. The door staff are friendly without being intimidating and the bar is well staffed with quick, polite service. Better than the strip search and military policing you get upon entry to EGG. The music itself is intense, DJ (HAAivery talented and the lighting and sound system superb. The environment is one that focuses solely on the music and enables the customer to go on a memorable musical journey deep into the night. Keep up the great work guys!
After buying tickets to a club night at Phonox from the website Dice, my friends and I arrived at Phonox to find it completely closed. There were other people outside in the same position as us, with absolutely no explanation as to why the club was closed. We were completely disappointed since my friends had traveled from all across the country for a night out in Brixton. After a few weeks of many strongly worded emails to Dice (and many attempts to call Phonox, who never picked up), I finally received my £33 refund, however I had no explanation of why the club was closed. Such a shame, dont go through this disappointment!
A small club with an interesting layout. Gets very hot. One dance room with great resident DJs and performances. Sound system is quite good and the lights are cool. Nice sit down side area for a break near the dance floor. A nice chilled sit down bar area downstairs. Quite strict about reentry so be careful.
Saw DJ Q all night long a couple Thursdays ago. So many things are right about this place. The main dance floor is big but intimate at the same time, wicked speakers, the crowds were great (but bassline crowds always are). Door staff werent super militant but you still felt safe, and theres platforms for people to rave on as well. Ill be heading back there pronto!
Saw Goldie here on Sunday, he played all night which is one of the things I love about this place. The vibe was wicked and everyone had a great time. The intimacy of the venue makes everything better, the lights the sound etc. Cant wait to come back
Pretty decent sound system and overall vibe but the toilets are atrocious (although the same can be said for most clubsand bizarrely I was made to queue to re-enter the club after going to the smoking area. Oh, and photography is banned for no good reason. Still managed to take the shot that accompanies this review though ;)
Awesome vibe, dance floor on the ground level with a Function One sound system in all four corners (excellent sound qualityand groovy music. As well as a bar downstairs with seating area.No pictures are allowed inside the club- respect those around you and just party.
Great programming - truly one of Londons best clubs for underground electronic music. Good to see the owners flying the flag for Sunday sessions as well, wish I could get to more of these. Fantastic sound, reasonably priced tickets and warm vibes all round. Cant wait to go again. Check it out.
Great sound, great bookings! When they had the bottomless Bloody Mary deal I especially looked forward to going. Unfortunately they stopped doing that :( this is also the only place where people seem to adhere to the "no phones on the dance floor" rule. This last time I was a bit disappointed at the bouncers, they were rude and abrupt.
Loved the dark downstairs bar, great selection of drinks and speedy bar staff. Nice to have a calm moment before heading upstairs for the music!Upstairs has a similar vibe to plan b, the previous incarnation, but its cleaner and definitely more up to date, which is a needed change.
