Phong Nam Bistro - Vietnamese restaurant in Bratislava, Slovakia
Phong Nam Bistro in Bratislava
Description
Privilege
1. It got expensive as hell, which would not be a big deal if there was no the other issue:2. Quality of ingredients. Both me and my wife had the following day digestion issues. Might be pure coincidence, but I had a similar experience couple months back, so I do not believe in coincidences any more.
MoreLiterally the best food Ive tried in Bratislava. Maybe I just really like the Asian foods in general... but this place was great. They only take cash, but portions are huge and well worth it.
MoreMy favourite place in Bratislava. Most authentic Vietnamese cuisine. If I got death penalty, my last meal would be 79 from Phong Nam.
MoreSooooo gooooood
Great Vietnamese place. Loved it ! Huge portions !
Disclaimer: not very helpful and a bit personal. After seeing how the staff of Phong Nam had to calmly deal with an arrogant white man, I’m thankful to (not only Slovakpeople who are willing to come here, wait in a long queue during a lunch time, try to read the menu off the hardly readable pictures on the walls, pay by cash and patiently wait until their number gets called while sitting very close to strangers who came to do the same. Seeing how this man kept yelling at the staff, telling them to “speak his language”, telling them they “don’t belong here”, it broke my heart and at the same time made me feel grateful for all the others who come here to enjoy or try Vietnamese food without any prejudice or judgement. Yes, the place has its flaws but it makes me feel the closest to home, even though I haven’t visited Vietnam yet.Regarding the food (notes from me and my company):Bánh cuốn chả lá lốt - the portion is too huge to be eaten by one person at once 😂 I wasn’t a fan of the minced meat and its texture, it was a bit hard to chew.Bún cá - there’s dill, pineapple and fish but the soup was surprisingly light and pleasant; “good soup” 👌🏼Bún tôm xào - maybe a bit too sweet but delicious overall! 🧡
MoreBEST, read it again if you dont agree, B E S T Vietnam food in city(we dont have to talk about location). Portions are great, staff is great and always happy. Public transport or paid parking. Just order, eat(u can also take food with you, you probably will take it bcs portions are huuuge. Enjoy
MoreVery delicious food and huge portions.
Top sensation. Big portions, authentic food. I lived in Vietnam for three years and this is the best Viet food I’ve had outside Vietnam.
MoreBest Vietnamese food I’ve ever tasted ! Very copious and tasty ! The waiter was so kind and helpful : there you have a lot of choice !
MoreTotally blew my mind. It was comparable to what I had in Vietnam. Very authentic
True vietnamese cuisine. Very tasty 😋 Huge portions! Good prices.
Really authentic Vietnamese cuisine, love it here!:)
Great food, best I tried of this type in Bratislava
Super great. I wanted bun cha but they didnt have pork in stock towards the end of the day. The waiter then gave me a suggestion for bun bo, which in my experience I didnt like that much, but actually the dish blew me away. I didnt remember to say thanks for the suggestion, but thank you!9€ and the portion was huge and fresh, and served ultra fast.
MoreFood is good but the price is terrible.... Bumbo nambo 9eur? Location is terrible.
MoreDelicious food. Easy to find in the Mileticova market in the district of Ruzinov.
MoreYou can eat good Vietnamese food here, really authentic I believe! The prices are ok, not cheap not expensive , but it is only possible paying with cash! Each plate its a lot of food, so you better be hungry! There is always a queue and the menu is on the walls, which was very confusing for me!They dont speak English!
MoreThe food is so delicious and such a full bowl!Couldn’t imagine the best Vietnam food I had is in Bratislava😳
MoreBetter than in Viet Nam! ❤ Best Bun bo nam bo ever
They had the best pho bo taste, but they are not the first for me.
Big portions, extremly delicious, lot of fresh vegetables and good price. For me Phong Nam Bistro is best vietnamese food in BA
MoreIf I went to hell for gluttony and was forced to be always hungry I would consider it a heaven if I could eat Phong Nam food. If I could give them a Michelin star I would do it. Newer edit: still fantastic.
MoreYummy big meals that are authentic. Staff is very nice and if your lost in the menu the owner will recommend you something great
MoreBest Vietnam cafe in that part of Bratislava.
I felt like I visited one of the popular Vietnamese restaurants in Vietnam. The portion of each dishes was huge and delicious. Pho was okay, but other than that all the dishes were superb! ☺️
MoreAmazing place with the genius loci. Extraordinary meal, the best bun bo nam bo, amazing staffand free hot drink. Really pleasant stay.
MoreLegendary Bratislava place at Miletičova street market where u can buy authentic vietnamese food for affordable price. Portion are enormous and very tasty. Old owner is super talkative and ready to help u with chaotic order system. Bun Bo Nam Bo is a basic, good for start
MoreProbably the best food in Bratislava, even if quite remote to the traditional Slovak cuisine. The most authentic, flavor rich, complex Vietnamese food Ive had in Europe so far. Whether one has the iconic Pho (in 5 varieties), or Bun Cha, or Bun Bo Nam Bo concoction that Slovaks like for its crazy name, or something more experimental. The place was created and is run by Vietnamese, no "inspired by" shams. Phong Nam brings to shame many of the more fancy-looking Asian restaurants downtown.Regardless of the shabby look and the "school dining room" mess, regardless of some of the staff barely speaking any Slovak, ordering and receiving the food by the pictures and numbers, this place attracts hipsters from all around the town - so there can be quite a crowd during the lunch time. It is pretty much a miracle how the food can always find its owners in this mayhem. All the quirks of the place are somehow tolerated or even loved secretly by the regulars - they add to the odd authenticity.it would be lovely to get some more in-depth descriptions of the meals, some more rational ordering by the type of the meal and the ingredients. And I pity all that plastic that it uses for take-aways. Particularly the tea now served in plastic cups is a sad new feature. By the way, price wise, it used to be a miraculous low-budget, now it is slightly more pricy considering the usual lunch menus in Bratislava (6-8 EUR for the meal), but still good compared to Western Europe and still well authentic.
MoreThis is out of the centre but definitely worth making the trip, taxi ride from the centre is approximately 5 euro. Great place to have noodles!Friendly staff but cash onlyWould come back and definitely recommend if youre craving any noodle dishes 😊
MoreAbsolutely... Delicious!!!! Totally recommended... 😉👌
Good Vietnam-food. They serve you a good amount of food , you wouldn’t be hunger anymore. We ordered the soup and we can add a lots of tipes of hot-sauces or dressings. The 🌶 is just 🥵 🔥 (I almost cry). There is free-tea in case you want it.
MoreI wouldnt say its the best place to get Pho, but its basically the only place to get a large variety of Vietnamese specialties. All other places serve the basics (pho, bun bo nam bo...etc.), but here the selection is pretty wild. Everything tastes amazing and fresh. They also use high quality beef which is really tasty.
MoreIt is located in a local Asian food market. It might not be for everyone who wants a fancy restaurant, but for people who are interested in authentic Asian food experience. Super friendly service, delicious food with reasonable price. This is probably the most authentic vietnamese food I have ever had in Europe. I am so happy to discover it.
MoreThe best pho bo in Bratislava! Guys me and my friends have been their 5-6 times and every time it’s the same good dish! Best regards to the owner ;)
MoreThis was my first taste of Vietnamese food (but it definitely wont be the last)The fusion of course ingredients and flavours was SO SEDUCTIVE. I had beef with noodles and salad with peanuts in a slightly sweet base. It was pure delight.I paid 7.40€ for the main course soup and a Lipton ice tea. I went late about 3.30 and was served fast. It was still quite busy.Take a number 9 tram to the outdoor market and the wooden shack is on the edge of the market. No toilets, but the market toilets are close by.
MoreThe best vietnamese cuisine in town, maybe even in central Europe. Its not high class restaurant, but beats all of them. Prices between 5 an 10 Eur, but you get really full.
MoreVery big portions and good taste but I had very bad diarrhea after I ate them.
Best Vietnamese food in Bratislava city. Lots of authentic meals and very decent portions. Could be really crowded during weekdays at lunch time but still worth to wait in the queue though. The cool thing is the location at mileticova market place which brings some more authenticity.
MoreReally nice restaurant in the heart of a very authentic market. Vietnamese dishes made by Vietnamese cooks. Everything is very good. Don’t give up if the line seems to long. It’s worth it the waiting time. Portions are very big. Prices are low and eating outside in the sun is great!
MoreSo far, the best Vietnamese food in Bratislava. Its in the Miletičova market, where you can buy everything (from cheap clothes, to fresh vegetables and fruits, plants, flowers, eggs,...). And then, there is the Phong nam. During the weekend the place is overcrowded, but dont worry if you see a never-ending line. Its worthy to wait a half hour to be served. If you are here for the first time, try anything you like or choose one of their flagship meals – Pho or Bun bo nam bo.
MoreThis is a must! A gastro gem hidden behind the open market. Possibly the most delicious and authentic Vietnamese bistro in town. Big portions, amazing taste. If you visit during lunch time, be prepared to wait in line for about 15-20 minutes, but its totally worth it! Best time to visit is at around 4PM. Most famous for Bun Bo Nam Bo.
MoreBest Vietnamese restaurant in Bratislava. Its a family business, very authentic, fresh ingredients from Vietnam, very good lemonades. I had Pho Bo, which was unbelievably good and warming and Bun Bo Nam Bo, locals classic, nice rice noodles, tender beef, lots of vegetables and very good sauce. I highly recommend this place.EDIT: Ive tried their number 139 (Banh cuon Chaand it was delicious. Juicy meat patty, steamed rice paper filled with ground pork, mushrooms and onions, tons of vegetables and their sour and warm fish sauce for dipping. Another meal was, I think, number 36, duck soup. I dont recommend that. Im sorry to say that but, the soup had awful smell and meat too. It was a grilled duck but it was stinky. That smell made me feel sick.
MoreThis gem of a restaurant is inside of the Marketplace Mileticova, and is an authentic example of great Vietnamese cuisine. When I arrived at lunch the place was absolutely packed, with a line wrapping around the inside and almost out the door. The menu items are shown with photos on the wall, and are reasonably priced from 4€. Portions are huge! I ordered the Bun Bo Nam Bo, and it was excellent. This is a new must visit stop any time Im in Bratislava.
MoreMany locals argue that its the best Vietnamese in town. I personally think that in August 2018 it still is.
MoreGreat place! Good food! Big portion! Very good price. Cant ask for more!
Must see in BratislavaBest Vietnamese Food I have ever eaten for a small price
