Schenley Park's horticulture hub features botanical gardens & a steel-&-glass Victorian greenhouse.
Beautiful, mostly indoor gardens in wonderfully orate greenhouses. There is plenty of different rooms, each with their own temperature and humidity for specific biomes. This makes each room very unique, from desert, to subtropical, native and even a massive Hawaiian room with waterfalls. Not too crowded. Mostly wheelchair-friendly and great for kids.
This is the 1st time in a while since Ive been to Phipps Conservatory. I do like plants and flowers but I feel like there wasnt enough to see. I noticed that there were some areas closed off. I assume at different times of the year there are more exhibits open. But from what I saw today everything was lovely.
Ive been here a few times. Love it every time I visit. They were in the middle of switching out exhibits for the fall season but it was still great. We spent 2 hours enjoying the different rooms. I took nearly 200 photos but Ill only share a few lol
I love Phipps. Parking is decent. Great exhibit. Informative people work here and they are very nice. Make sure you come see the lights for Christmas.
I love Phipps. We come every year for the Christmas show and recently we went and saw the Monet exhibit. The cool and creative things they do and the many plants are fun to see! Definitely want to come back to see other seasons!
We went to view the Monet exhibit, it was stunning. The displays were very well thought out, and the flora was amazing. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We always enjoy visiting the Phipps. We are so lucky to have a gem like this in Pittsburgh.
Gorgeous. Everywhere you look there is more Beauty to see. We lived here 3 years before finally visiting, well be coming back often! Its great for most ages, but teenagers might be a little bored.
Love this place. So many beautiful plants and trees to see. They also have a fun interactive kids area. The Monet exhibits were especially taking. Can’t wait to go back around Christmas time!
Always amazed by the variety of flowers and plants. Layed out so beautifully. Truly a great way to spend a cpl hours. Love the outdoor area for kids as well to play amongst the garden. Definitely one of pittsburghs gems.
Phipps is a wonderful place to visit by yourself or on a date or with a family. The flowers are beautiful and the different rooms are well thought out and informative. So many things to look at. The Butterfly room is awesome! They have different exhibits that visit. The current exhibit is based on Monet paintings. They recreated various Monet painting with flowers and sounds. They also have little sayings and tidbits about Monet throughout the Conservatory. The flowers are beautiful and there are little hidden gems of glass blown flowers and little men. They also currently have a Hawaii exhibit with awesome information and waterfalls. The Cafe has lots of tea selections and the food looked really good.
Have to get tickets online timed and masks 😷 still!! July 2022This City celebrates this place its obvious cash cow being run into ground. Parking horrible, crowded small spots and not safe cross walks. Cafe dirty and rude staff limited drinks and food. Gift shop over priced. The architecture beautiful historically you could see it was lovely back in day. SadI dont blame staff I blame management and misappropriation of funds.Honestly seen better garden displays in most mall food courts.
Ive gone twice this summer to see the Monet show. Its absolutely beautiful! Ive had lunch in the cafe- always delicious- and Sarris candy for a sweet treat. Take the family and enjoy Phipps. We are truly blessed to have such a beautiful botanic garden in Pittsburgh. PS. the orchids are breath-taking!
Lovely place to spend some time in Pittsburgh. We came here on a whim and absolutely loved it. Beautiful flowers and creatively themed areas. If you have any interest in this type of experience its money well spent.
Phipps is beautiful. I spent 2-3 hours in here. I made multiple trips around it experiencing each room in a new way everytime I re-entered. The orchard room is almost spiritual. I suggest going alone if you really like plants/flowers, or find a friend who appreciates these things as much as you. ♥️
It was alright. They had a lot of variety. My biggest issue is it was way to hot inside. The humidity was very high that day but temp was low (70 outsideand they simply didnt have enough fans or airflow to make it enjoyable. You cant control the weather outside obviously but we thought it would be fine as it was indoors. While it technically is, its not air conditioned and its basically warmer inside than outside. So keep that in mind if you wish to visit.I also thought the navigation of the place itself was not well thought out. It was easy to miss things.Overall I think its just not worth paying for. There are way nicer places for cheaper out there in the state of PA.
Wow. We were speechless as we walked around this incredible place. There was a Monet exhibit and the combination of art and plant arrangements was breathtaking. $20 per person felt a little steep at first, but after walking around for an hour we felt it was well worth it.
A great place to take a leisurely stroll with your friends or family. There are childrens gardens as well for kids to play and interact with. A very fun day out in Pittsburgh.
Very cool botanical garden. Personally, Im not too big on the flowers but my girlfriend and her grandma loved it. Especially the Desert Room. Not too bad of a value and there are plenty of different areas with different themes. The Monet exhibit is pretty neat as well. I was moderately entertained and its more than I was expecting. I realize not everything is made for someone with my tastes, so if this is your kinda thing, I absolutely recommend.
I love and been to many botanical gardens. Phipps’ was a bit disappointing to me. $20 admission fee at the door, I asked for a map and was told to just take a picture of it from the wall. It was not a big deal, since I’m all about saving the trees too! Here are the things to why I gave this place 3/5. This botanic garden was just kinda small, not a whole lot of cool plants to see. The one area I wanted to see was the room where they had used plants to make a flower. Which was also the room/pic they used to advertised this place. When asked about it, I was told by their staff the room was closed to replace glass panels. Keep in mind, I visited this botanical garden on July 4th with lots of tourists coming in. If I had known that the room they advertised was closed; I would’ve used my time better and visited other attractions instead. Then again, I’m not sure if that room would’ve made a difference considered I was hoping to see some unique plants. The outdoor garden was very ordinary and not a whole lot to see. Overall, I probably won’t come back to visit this place again.
Finally got to visit this place after years of waiting. Its mostly indoors so if you have asthma or strong allergies, I recommend bringing your inhaler. My friend had to use hers. Its beautiful and worth to visit. Glad I got it knocked out my travel list!
The conservatory features some rotating and some permanent components. Structurally and aesthetically, the location is super well designed; even indoors you feel outdoors. Our pictures depict a time when there were glass sculptures inside as well! Just a lovely juxtaposition of built vs. natural environment.Thematic spaces also feature during the holidays, which will work for you if you like nostalgia. Theyre doing great conservation work as well! Keep supporting Phipps!
We love it here so much we became members! So many wonderful things to enjoy, we spot something new each time we visit. The timed tickets can be really helpful for getting there early and guaranteeing there won’t be a crowd. Morning admission also means you avoid the pitfalls of inadequate parking. Folks poach the “Phipps Only” spots to park for free and walk across the bridge to Schenley Plaza and the University of Pittsburgh campus. Your mileage may vary.
Wonderful, beautiful rooms of varied flowers and trees. Chihuly sculptures throughout. Monet exhibit is interesting with some more spot-on than others. Wander outside also!
This place is amazing!! I recommend everyone come see this place. The colors and smells are out of this world. I took the whole family with me and we took many pictures here are a few I think you can enjoy.
This was the most beautiful conservatory I’ve ever seen and the gardens inside are so beautiful mixed with nature/ art. They really did an outstanding job here and it was my favorite thing to see in Pittsburgh. hope to come back again.
We enjoyed our visit here very much, especially when they have a "Monet in Bloom" flower show. They show Monets paintings with some descriptions, and then they try to recreate the scene in the paintings in their garden. And the figures displayed were all made with dried plant parts. There are quite a number of different rooms with different themes, all very beautiful and well maintained. There are also many Chihuly’s glass arts displayed harmoniously together with the plants.
We visited Pittsburg last weekend and visited the conservatory. The gardens were beautiful and well maintained. It wasnt too crowded. I felt the $20 entry was a little steep. We spent almost couple of hours inside walking around and sitting on the benches inside. Definitely recommend
Phipps Conservatory is absolutely beautiful. If you love plants you will love it here. I really enjoyed all the exhibits and I like that they change themes throughout the year. When my family and I visited, the theme was Monets paintings, so many of the rooms were decorated after his works of art. Im giving it 4 stars, because its not the most exciting place to visit and small children might get bored, but if you love plants this is def the place for you.
Wonderful place, with a wide variety of habitats including desert and rainforest. Currently has Monet plant arrangements. The plants are so well established and healthy looking. Truly impressive!
Perfect Saturday for a visit to Phipps Conservatory. Elegant, beautiful and tranquil gardens. A feast for the senses. Fun, accessible, free parking and excellent for adults and children alike. Friendly and helpful staff. Cute cafe. It was nice to get there early before the crowds to take the time to thoroughly enjoy each section more than once. Loved it. What a treasure.
It was beautiful so many different plants. I loved the butterflies. They just floated around you going flower to flower. They had different kinds of cactus in one area, tropical in another and so much more to see. Greenery everywhere. I almost forgot they have glass sculptures mixed in with the plants.
I love Phipps. My friend and I hadnt been in years, so we made it our "girls day" destination. They are celebrating Monet (Spring 2022), and the flower displays are quite inventive. Each area has a painting that the room is based on. The flowers are beautiful, the staff is welcoming, and the lunch bar is good. I love wandering around and taking everything in at my own pace.
A very unique experience every visit we have with this beautiful indoor botanical garden. Every event is and decoration is amazing throughout the year. No matter what is the weather conditions this indoor place always gives so much of peace and pleasure.
A perfect place to visit on a rainy day. Me and my girlfriend spent about two hours walking through very greenhouse to look at everything. Plenty of color and lots to look at and take pictures of. This is a must visit place while spending time in Pittsburgh. Scheinly Park is nearby for a walk before or after your visit. Pitt and CMU are also very close. Parking was located in front of the building and was plentiful and free with admission.
What a wonderful place! The floral displays are outstanding and I never miss their seasonal shows for Spring, Summer, Fall and Christmas/Winter! They also often have an amazing train display for the winter season. Parking on the "Island" in front of the Conservatory on Schenley Drive is free... and on Sundays all street parking is also free. Their cafe also offers good options for lunch or a snack or beverage. I highly recommend a visit here if you are touring around Pittsburgh.
I really wasnt sure what to expect coming here as we chose to drop in completely on a whim, but I have to say I was blow away. The care, planning, and attention to detail was phenomenal. The fact that we stopped in on a winter month and still got to see so much just makes me all the more excited to come back when everything is in full swing!
Beautiful, varied displays, wonderful glass, (aka Pittsburghs Crystal Palacebuilding. Though about 2 weeks early for full spring displays. Certainly a good visit in bad or mild weather.
Phipps Conservatory is a great place to visit any time of the year! It is in Schenley Park, where there are many nice walking and running trails. It is also close to the Carnegie Museum. It’s a great place to go to get ideas for your own garden. If you are in Pittsburgh it is a place you must see.
Very beautiful and large place, mainly indoors but I would recommend going on a nicer day so you can get the full experience of the outer section as well. If you’re a plant lover, you will absolutely love this place. There’s a lot selection of plants and trees. There were little signs that have information about what you were looking about, and fun facts about them. During our visit there were a lot of exhibits that were closed because they were working on them. The first look inside was breath taking. If you’re visiting Pittsburgh you definitely have to visit this spot !
The conservatory is a wonderful escape from the hectic and sometimes chaotic everyday life. Between the gorgeous colors and the vivid scents of the vast variety of flowers, one can almost forget that Phipps is located in a busy city such as Pittsburgh. Once inside time slows down as you unwind and stroll through the different themed rooms. Spring and Christmas are my favorite times to visit but there is always something to see all year long. I would definitely suggest giving Phipps a look.
Beautiful as always. The gift shop has some great items and eat at the cafe for summer amazing salads and yummy food. I love wandering the different rooms, breathing in the fresh scents and looking at the beautiful plants.
The conservatory is a well-maintained and very popular space in Pittsburgh. It is beautiful and it stands apart from other botanical gardens I’ve visited. It has a living, interactive model train board, beautiful glass sculptures by world-famous artist Dale Chihuly, and specimens from around the world. The placards are easy to find and read and it is 95% accessible for disabled visitors. I’m very eager to see the outdoor spaces in Spring and summer, but the orange trees were blooming already and smelled amazing even through our masks.
One of my favorite places to go in Pittsburgh. I recently bought a dual annual pass because I love going to each of their new installments. Even with covid they have adapted to best serve everyone with mandatory masks and plenty of hand sanitizer stations. The designing and set up must take forever but from my end it looks well worth the planning. Each room is always stunning and well kept, and all of the plants are very well kept. The most recent show I went to was the Orchids and Bonsai and it was breath taking. I cant wait to make it back down for the new Tropical Hawaii installment!
Amazing visit, the plants, flowers and tress are incredible and the walking path is a delightful journey. Really glad we stopped here during our visit to Pittsburgh, is absolutely go back and would absolutely recommend it.
Beyond 5 stars for the botanists/caretakers of this gorgeous oasis within the city of Pittsburgh. It’s truly a breath of fresh air; Phipps is a place where everyone can learn about & remember our connection with Earth, Nature & Each Other; within an urban environment. I especially love the “Cuban” room; last time I visited; it was a Thai forest; it’s been awhile 😂 but I believe in divine timing. I especially enjoyed the highlights within the new Cuban room; that subtly remind us that our environment provides every cure that we would ever need from any natural discomfort. Industrialized man has manufactured dis-ease and that’s why we seem to need masks, pills, injections, surgeries, etc in order to solve our own problems; disassociated from a natural state. May Earth Be With Us; We Need Earth, More Than Earth Needs Us 🙏
Wonderful experience! A beautiful place you must visit. So much diversity and picture opportunities. You dont really spend long and its not over crowded, also has a Cafe and gift shop to stop by. I would definitely come again when Im back in PA.
We visited the new exhibit and the bonsai trees were cool. Many trees were old and very cool. There were many hand sanitizer containers and masks were mandatory throughout the building. Even during the pandemic the conservatory was still a very fun time and is so cool to see so many plants.
Really amazing Botanical garden that Pittsburgh has!Being a huge fan of nature, I totally enjoyed this place. This is indeed a second visit of mine, yet I loved it.Certain decorations were Christmas specific I believe, however I could not witness them during night time and I believe that they will be even more beautiful during the night time.
Beautiful. The winter wonder light show was amazing. It was pouring down rain when we went and it was still amazing! Had to purchase tickets in advance as they only allow so many at a time. It flowed so nicely. You had enough time to enjoy and look at things without being surrounded by people. We also went on a Tuesday evening though! Will definitely return next year!
Really enjoyed our time at the conservatory! The Troll A Ween theme was SUPER cute. It was fun to search for all the little trolls in the gardens. Very cool displays of mums for Fall. The Tropical Forest Cuba exhibit was to die for. Interested to see what different seasons bring! Highly recommend.
