Homey nook since 2001 with folksy decor offering hearty, homestyle Southern plates & daily specials.
Very nice and cozy little diner that serves amazing home-cooked food. The service was an amazing treat as well...Sooooo friendly.
Fantastic food and service. More food than you could ever eat and delicious. They only served their Thanksgiving dinner. Thats why we went. Hearts go out to the employees for working on Thanksgiving. Thank you so much.
Hotcakes as big as your face. Fast and friendly service. Feels like eating at your favorite family members house. Good pricing for large portions. Overall, great first time visit, 10/10 recommend.
EXCELLENT WAIT STAFF. Loved our waitress she was the best part of the experience but that’s where it ends. People say the portions are large but that’s for the “filler” sides. The hashbrowns taste like they are kept is hot water and then “crisped” as needed so they are mainly mush when you get them with no definition and no taste other than the hot water. The eggs are cooked perfectly as is the bacon. The pancakes are HUGE and the flavor is excellent (not just bisquick and water). The restaurant is small and quaint, but I will say in the COVID risk era we are in, you may feel uncomfortable if you don’t like sitting close to others.
We went to Hot Springs for our anniversary and decided to have breakfast at Phil’s as we headed back home. Our waitress was very nice, attentive and courteous. I had a ribeye and eggs. Overall the ribeye was eatable but I generally have a steak for the flavor of the beef rather than the seasoning. I can only assume that this steak was dropped in a keg of pepper before or during the cooking process. After the second bite, everything had a peppery taste to it. Their hash browns were more like hash-mash browns. The exterior was browned really well but the interior was more like mashed potatoes, I didn’t order a mashed potato cake. As for the pancakes, they were HUGE. It covered a 10 or 12” plate and it was about 1 1/2” thick. It was also fairly well charred on one side and battery/doughy in the middle. Needless to say, I left there unsatisfied and a couple of the locals gave good recommendations for the place. I gave it a 2 because of our waitress. And I didn’t give consideration in the score for the customers that were there. One of which was about 12 feet from our table when he started hacking, coughing and what I can only assume was an effort to gargle the phlegm up out of his lungs. Then there was the guy that walked backward into our table and splashed coffee out of our cups and the kid that was screaming and crying because someone wouldn’t let him sit in the chair he wanted to. Needless to say, we were glad to leave.
The food is pretty good AND lots if it! If you leave Phils hungry its your own fault. I eat there often and, as an example why, their side salad. Its large, fresh and good quality. I never leave Phils feeling cheated.
Small little restaurant just across from Oaklawn Race track. Food was great. Friendly staff. Nice customer interaction on our visit. Portions were nice. Plate sized hot cakes. 2 egg omelet that was more like 4. Biggins.
Portions were massive and my food was delicious. My husbands steak and eggs were good. My daughter thought the chocolate gravy was a little on the sour side, and she makes hers from scratch with her grandpas recipe so she has some basis for that. The hashbrowns could have been more flavorful and I had to add salt, which I very rarely do. Overall, would definitely try again.
We came to Hot Springs to see Aaron Lewis at Oaklawn, stayed overnight and left out early to head back home. We decided to eat dinner breakfast at &Phil’s. I wish we had heeded the warnings that the portions were huge! If I’d actually realized they were THAT big, we would have shared! We left so much food, there was no way to eat all of it. The pictures don’t show the size. So definitely not complaining about portion size! The food was good, could maybe cook the hash browns a little crispier but that’s just the way I like them, others may like them less crispy. I really wanted an omelet but I didn’t want to pay that much and no one wanted to share with me. Loved the homey atmosphere with antiques. A quaint little restaurant resembling an old friends house. Great service.
First of all this is my opinion. If you decide to visit this restaurant you might have a totally different outlook on things than I do. I say try it once and if it dont meet your standards you dont have to go back. Now as far as my experience goes is that they give you plenty of food for sure, but to me the food wasnt season enough like I like. I enjoy good southern food, but must be seasoned right for me to fully enjoy. The atmosphere is nice they have a lot of old antiques inside. The restaurant itself is actually an old house that they converted into an restaurant. So I give it a total of three stars because of the food not being totally up to par for me.
Very good food. Large portions for the price. Friendly staff. Delicious food 😋 We give it a Tails Up
This hidden jewel sits right across from Oaklawn, and you get more than your moneys worth. I almost felt guilty spending so little on that much food. Feels a little like stepping back in time to the eat in diners of old. Service was fast and good. No glass went empty, and neither did our stomachs. Walked away with supper for me and my 2 just from my left overs. Meatloaf with your choice of brown gravy or ketchup, mashed potatoes, and green beans that tasted like they had been cooked slow all day with bacon, and straight off of grannys canning shelf. Would definitely eat here again!!!
Ate breakfast here. Ordered the pancake, scrambled eggs and bacon. Everything was delicious. The pancake was huge! Enough to feed three people. The orange juice was delicious. Staff was very friendly. Definitely recommend.
A must place to eat. Fantastic service and food. If a line, its worth the wait, come hungry as portions are large.
Well first of all, the BLT was $13 which is mighty steep for what is quite possibly the simplest dish you can serve in a restaurant.I had to wait 30 minutes for a BLT, which once again I cannot fathom how it would take 30 minutes to slap some bacon on a sandwich. When I finally got it, they forgot the mayo and the bacon was so crunchy I could barely chew it.The side options were chips or fries, I asked for chips assuming theyd at least be some kettle chips or something. They were lays potato chips, and apparently the bottom of the bag too because it was all just broken chip fragments. The chairs were very uncomfortable and the seating felt very cramped as I had wait staff walking by me with less than a foot between me and them. The wait staff was friendly and doing everything they could but it was otherwise a really poor experience.
Chocolate gravy need I say more? The ingredients they use arent scratch but its a good get full on a budget kinda place which is what I love just wish some of these places would start farm to tabling.🧐🤔
First time eating at this place. Spend 35 dollars only ate a spoon of everything. Fruit bowl: pieces of fruit had mold on it. Biscuit/gravy: gravy was too thick, hashbrowns didn’t have anything but cheese on top no toppings (that I paid extra for omelette was just trash.
Nice atmosphere, and most of my food was good.. Except, the Green beans... They tasted like water and the last time the turnip greens tasted the same.My step moms chicken strips were dry but, they made her something different with no complaintsThe staff are very friendly and the owner came out to apologize for the trouble so I still recommend coming here
The place was great the people were nice the food was amazing
Nice atmosphere, friendly people, and staff are knowledgeable about the menu. The gentleman that waited on us was fast and quick to take care of our needs. The food definately is home cooking and taste delicious. We ate lunch their Sunday and enjoyed chicken n dumplings, turnip greens, and pinto beans.
So good first day, ate there all 3 days of my stay in hot springs. Omlet and hash browns will feed 2, maybe 3, so be hungry if you order. Biscuit and Gravy, good. Biscuits and chocolate Gravy, good
Huge portions, friendly staff, the best sweet tea. We go at least once a week. Owner has a great sense of humor and so do the amazing waitresses.
Wow, I was blown away! When my friend said lets go eat breakfast at the track. I was like holy moly no. They said k a s s i its not what you think its in the middle of a parking lot and its really good. Well that made me think even worse like were going to be sitting Im tables and chairs in the middle of the parking lot and it was hot. Well I was very pleasantly surprised. It was in a beautiful building and it was cold AC that you felt when you walked in. We were greeted by a very welcoming atmosphere, friendly hello. We picked out own table. As we sat I noticed that the place was extremely clean and the staff looked amazing. Sharp, clean, no wrinkles and not a single one looked like the were on The Meth.Despite it being fairly busy, we were seen to quickly and after havjng ordered our food, I was so thrilled to taste how wonderful and home cooked my meal was.The prices were good to boot. Now they were more like Fort Worth brunch prices, but thats ok. Im accustomed to that.Definitely 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Im sorry, but I loved the service here, but the food didnt meet my expectations. Also when I walked in there was an odd smell. I dont know if it is just from it maybe being an old bldg or what. That kind of put me off when I sat down to eat, but I tried to ignore it and order. The food was just okay, but again it wasnt my favorite. The coffee didnt taste well with milk in it. I feel nauseated after eating there. I dont want to be mean, but I do appreciate the kind staff.
Upon entering I noticed the building has a very odd smell. Not sure if it is moth balls or mildew, but it smells like an old, stale building. Not sure how to explain it. I ordered the soup of the day which was vegetable soup. It was a can of luke warm veg-all dumped into bowl. I had to send it back, first time in my life doing so. The waitress was nice about it. The mashed potatoes were also instant with instant brown gravy. Would I go back, no. It does have an inviting atmosphere and a down home cooking vibe, but unfortunately nothing is made from scratch. Sadly everything was all from a can or instant.
Went here for dinner! Staff was so friendly, and we were well attended to. Can I just say the portions are twice what you would get most places for the price, and we left completely stuffed with large leftovers to go. Seriously going to consider going here for breakfast tomorrow if Im were still full from tonight!
Monday morning experience and it was pretty busy. The food portion was huge. The waitress said 8 or 9 eggs are used to make the omlet. My hotcake was delicious and massive. Good experience for my first time here.
Nice folks. Good food. Lovely interior to adore while eating, and visiting. 😊
This was the best place we ate during our trip to Hot Springs! The place was hopin! They were packed and we ended up sitting at the bar cause they had no other room to fit us! But this just made the experience better! All the wait staff were so awesome as we watched them shuffling around they still stopped and talked to us no matter how busy they all were. Talk about team work! The food was absolutely amazing! And there was so much food there was no way we could finish it all! To my surprise they had biscuits with chocolate gravy! I hadnt had it since I was a kid at my grandmas at Christmas! Thanks Phils! Great experience!
How can I put this……the food was AMAZING. The food baby I got after the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes was so big I’m filing for child support. You’re a dad now Phil. Congratulations.
Food was amazing!!! Coffee was great and service was on top of it. The hotcakes were the size of the plate so the waitress recommended 1 for my daughter.
Great food. Pancakes are crazy 🤪 big! Get only one pancake, if you dont want to take leftovers.
Lets start with the atmosphere, it has an old farmhouse vibe.I had the double, and my wife had french toast. The pancakes in the picture you can tell are huge, and they are the best pancakes Ive ever had. I had the sample the biscuits and gravy also and the biscuits were homemade and the gravy was awesome. I would give this six stars if I could.
Its been a couple of years, but its still just as wonderful as it was in 2019.****************(Wonderful service and fantastic food. Just walking in and looking around is great. I encourage anyone coming to Hot Springs to check this place out! You will be so glad that you did! ❤ 💓 💗 💕
Great place. Outstanding service. The food was delicious and the pancakes are huge, you only need one! I would definitely recommend eating here.
Quaint place. Friendly staff. It was very busy.Food portions are large!Loved the cozy feel. And the decor.Bathroom was super warm due to having a heater in there which was nice!
Made a last minute stop here while passing through for lunch. We had the BLT & a pattymelt. The food was served good & hot. The cook came out multiple times to check on our food as well as others, waitress was really nice, and checked on our table well. The huge Mason jars for drinks is really nice, and the extra bowls for your ketchup was very thoughtful! Great place if you want to feel like youre dining at your grandmas house! Lots of cool things on the wall, and DEFINITELY has a very "homey" feeling. Only downside was pricing, but I know everything is going up right now.
You might have to wait a while, but O M G it’s so worth it!!!The food is phenomenal. The service is good. And yes. The pancakes are bigger than anything you’ve ever seen. This is a SOLID choice for breakfast when in the area.
Homey local restaurant with delicious food. My husband loved the big bacon burger. I loved the service, they tried their best to get me something spicy. 4 thumbs up 😄
The food was homemade and amazing! Incredible portions! The service was prompt, professional, and friendly! Three different people making sure we were taken care of. Thats unheard of. Loved the atmosphere and the company! Highly recommended! Cannot wait to check out breakfast.
The food was delicious and we definitely did not leave hungry. The staff was incredibly friendly and nice. The decor was very interesting. An amazing family owned restaurant
The portion size is very generous borderline overwhelming especially the pancakes. Service was good and friendly. I went back next morning and tried omelet and biscuits and gravy. Food and service was good again
When you drive by, the building is unassuming. Inside, this small, sweet place comes with blast from the past and a homey feel. Walls are reminiscent of Hollywoods golden age and a country kitchen. The staff was friendly and informative. The specials are varied as are the veggie options. I had some of the best restaurant sweet tea served in a mason jar, nice and warm. The portions are enough for a second meal! I had meatloaf, potato salad, and green beans. My husband had chopped steak, green beans, and pinto beans. All was pretty delish! The only things we would change is he thought there was a bit much pepper in the brown brown gravy and the meatloaf sauce tasted like ketchup right out of a bottle, as opposed to a ketchup/mustard/brown sugar mixture. The meat was great on both meatloaf and chopped steak. We will definitely be back, lots to try!
Excellent, authentically friendly service every time I go. The portions are large, way more than most people can probably eat - especially the pancakes. The atmosphere is warm and cozy.
Absolutely loved this cute little restaurant! The staff was so nice and welcoming. The food was very good and the portions were very generous. The omelets were delicious and the hot cakes and French toast were even better. Definitely recommend trying this place out
This place is the absolute best mom and pop style restaurant I have found since moving to Arkansas. Portions are unbelievable and value unbeatable. Staff is friendly and efficient. Food is great! Would recommend this to anyone wanting to find a small cozy family environment.
Always like to visit the local places when we travel - this was one we picked for a Sunday morning breakfast. We were one of just a few tables there. Service was friendly and meal delivery was quick. Coffee was good. Portions as shown and stated in other reviews are large. My omelet was a little undercooked and my wifes hashbrowns had a burnt taste. Bathroom had a mothball smell which Im not a fan of. Food "stuck with us" on the 5 hour drive home - lunch was light this day... Was hoping for a little more out of this place but this day was not that day.
Would have gotten 5☆ if they could have gotten the eggs right. 🥴Word to the wise. Go early or be prepared to wait. Its a busy spot, and limited seating.People are not lying when they say the portion sizes are massive! For $5.99 I got 2x 3lb pancakes {LOL}, 2x eggs "ordered over easy because no one can ever get over medium right", 2x bacon strips. Our waiter heard me say that was why I ordered my eggs over easy and swore they would get over medium right. Sad to say, they were close, but no gold stars. The yokes were a tad overdone. My wife had their grits and they were smooth and well seasoned.Flavor wise, everything was good. The massive pancakes were big, but not heavy. Everything was seasoned well, and the service was super friendly. We enjoyed it, and will mostly likely will go back when we get back to Hot Springs.Pros: Friendly service, massive pancakes, cheap, good home style food.Cons: Tight seating area, busy, tea is super sweet "but if youre from South thats probably a plus" LOL
Outstanding!! We went on a Sunday around 430 pm. We were promptly seated. The menu was easy to read with many daily specials to include Sunday. I ordered the hamburger steak with green beans and potato salad. My wife had the liver and onions with a side of mashed potatoes and English peas. The food was brought out fast and the server was polite and extremely helpful. The food tasted very good and I will be back to try other things on the menu. We also loved the corn bread and sweet tea.
Awesome experience! Our waiter Paul was amazing, he made sure that we had everything that we needed right away! The food was delicious! Huge pancakes! Country cooking at its finest! 😀 We will definitely be going back soon!
