Huai Phai, Khong Chiam District, Ubon Ratchathani 34220, Thailand, Pakxe
Mountain park featuring waterfalls & unique rock formations, plus a restaurant & souvenir shop.
This beautiful cliff over looking the river made me reflect on how people communicate through storytelling and how much weve achieved with modern technology in contrast to simple expression on the walls.
A beautiful place to visit.
This nation park is very beautiful and worth the money! The nature is very pretty and a lot of things to see if You like nature. The painting there is between 3000 and 4000 years old and wow. The walk is maximum 3.5km and a must. But use good shoes please because sometimes its wet and slippery. The views are amazing
You paid 6 dollars I think is expensive for what you get.I think USA national parks are much better and better value for your money. You know Thailand expensive for what you get.
Nice panoramic views
Beautiful place to visit
Foreigners pay 400B, local 30B 😀
Very well oganized and still good nature condition
This is a beautiful national park with great views of the Mekong River on the border of Laos and Thailand. There is hiking opportunities here and great places to take some beautiful photos. There is a walking track with some ancient art works which is fairly easy to do. And some other walking tracks around the park. Be aware though it is only 40 bhat for thai people the entrance fee for non thai is 400 bhat. See my YouTube channel The Travelling Social Worker for the video on my visit here.
Very well kept surroundings free of litter
Totally worth the 400 BTH per person and 30BTH per car you pay for entering the national park
I love everything here but the heat haha. I’d suggest to visit this place in October onwards. The day that I visited was around 45 celsius degrees. Just FYI, the national park won’t allow you to fly the drone unless you have the license and permitting document etc.
Nice spot, get up early , hotel-resort nearby.
Come here to see sun rise, this trip is worthwhile as the scene is scenic and beautiful. Driving here can be tough on car absorber/suspension due to uneven ground when closer to destination. Many areas for amazing photoshoot but take precaution. Death is certain if fall over the cliff especially when wind is strong and too busy taking photo while not looking at footing.Recommend to check out the exhibition area to get some idea before venturing into the wall drawing area. The total trip is about 4.3 km but the key visit area is just the first 3 spot which is around 850m walk from car park.Wear comfortable shoe, bring food and drink water. The cafe opens only at 8am and doesnt serve food. On the day of my visit, there is not a single shop selling food so best bring your own food.Photoshooting here is fun!
this national park is very big. unfortunately, I couldn’t explore all areas in one day. So I gonna review some parts of my journey. That day I came, it had a few visitors because the season that I went was nearly winter. It was quiet and there were not many stores open in the park, thus, I didnt go out to eat for lunch. There is no water spot and the waterfalls are not recommended to go for the view because it was nearly dried. But wildflower fields at Soi Sawan waterfall was blooming. The field is not much far from the center camp but it necessary to go by car. The view was incredible. The sunset behind Khong river and all the colors of carnivorous wildflower was remarkable in my memory, I must find the opportunity to visit here again.
Pha Taem National Park is in Ubonratchatani province. It can be accessed by car. I flew from Chiang Mai to Ubonratchatani. The next day I drove to visit many places including Pha Taem National Park. The place is special. Have some old paintings on walls, but it takes quite very long distance walk to explore, therefore, I explored only the first spot. The big stones look like a mushroom. The landscape is also very beautiful. The temperature is pleasant. You can spend the whole day at Pha Taem and stay overnight.
It lost one star due to two price Thailand inequities. But this is a fantastic place to come and really get back to nature. The the cliff side drawings remind us of how long man has been trying to tell stories. As a visual storyteller myself it was a wonderful communing with nature and with our ancestors.
View of two countries of Thailand and Laos across the middle of the Mekong River and beautiful high cliffs
Wonderful sunrise view and peaceful atmosphere. Love the fresh air.
A great place to view acient art painted on the stone
Recommended , nice nature with historical place
Beautiful place, wiew and historical paints on wall. But to see paints put nice shoes
One of my favourite national parks in Thailand. Just visited for the second time and still amazing. The size of the cliff with its view down the Mekong is just spectacular. Also the walkway on the bottom of the cliff is very well made and interesting in many ways. Plenty of parking available everywhere. Had to pay 400 THB entrance for foreigner. Nice waterfalls in the area around as well.
At the top you see white man price 400 baht ... below you see thai price... foreigners are charged 10x more to enter this park! I know it’s not a lot of money but it’s the principle and slyness involved! Can you imagine Thais being charged 10x more to enter the tower of London? Or the Eiffel Tower? I think notDon’t support such practice
Did not stop on our Isaan tour. 400 THB for foreigners? No thanks, we will fine some nicer places for sure.
Excellent, must visit.Park is very well maintained and it is just beautiful.Do be careful when visiting the 4 wall painting, the path gets narrow on a cliff.
To study the stone age painting with a bit long walks just good for your brain and for your health
Rip off 400 baht for foreigners and just 40 for thais. How often do foreigners even come this far yet you want to charge them 10 times the price?Nice view from the cliff , not worth the 400
I love it . One in my dreams place I need to go . So beautiful The Prehistorical Painting Cliff ,
Interesting Rock Carvings / Campsite! Excellent Place to visit...
The fee is 400 baht/foreign visitor which is expensive in my opinion but it covers other places including waterfalls nearby. Plan to spend a day to see them all. The parking area is all natural stone. Theres a cafe and restrooms at visitor center. Pay attention to signs for your safety. You need to hike down to see rock paintings so wear hiking shoes and pack some water. The 3000 year old paintings along the cliff were amazing. I didnt have time to walk the whole path. I had to turn back and come up before the rain storm comes. I ducked the rain under the cavelike building and then the rainbow appeared in the parking lot. It was amazing!
Nothing has changed in 10 years.Bht400 entrance for foreigners make a venue to miss, sad!
Great scenes. Must visit. Highly recommend. High light in Ubon Ratchathani Province
a place before the history of human, fascinating, gigantic, exotic and so touchy.
Great experience if you are out this way. Not alot of tourists, so very quiet.
Very good scenery.
Another must see, is a beautiful part of Thailand 👍
A good place for walking to see nature and ancient paintings on the cliffs. Prepare an umbrella, raincoat or cap if you go there in rainy seasons. To see all 300 pictures (e.g. elephant, fish, turtleand have a complete lap, you have to walk around 3,520 m.
If youre going to ubon, you must have been here.
Good place historical, for relax and education.
It is a wonderful gift of nature with huge rocky ground with good views all around. The place is peaceful and not crowded. There is spacious parking area, a coffee shop and good rest room. The place is little bit far from the main town but the road to Pha Taem is very comfortable and I enjoyed driving. If you are a nature lover, you must not miss this place if you visit Ubon Ratchathani province.Entry fees per person:Thai people: 40 baht(Adults), 20 baht(Children)Foreigner: 400 Baht(Adult), 200 Baht(Children)Time of travel: December 2017Traveler type: Family
Well worth visit however farang 400bht Thai 40bht not fair system
400 Baht entrance fee. Walkway to the historic paintings is well maintained. Avoid the fourth group of paintings when traveling with children or others not experienced in mountain hiking as the way is very close to the cliff.
Good place for see the history of essan.
A must visit. If not for the scorching sun, I would have walked a full circle to see all 4 painting group. I would come during early morning on possible second visit.
Amazing views of the Mekong, very accessible path to see the cliff paintings
I visited 8 years ago and it was free for everyone. Yesterday, it was 400 baht for foreigners, 70 baht for Thais under age 65, and free for senior Thai citizens. Nothing much has changed other than that.
If you do not like walking in the hot heat without water. Do not visit. Great experience which I will not forget. Will make it back one day and camp out to watch the rising sun.
Beautiful np, much too see. Too bad there wasnt enough water to see the waterfalls
One of a very interesting place in Ubon Ratchathani. The rock arts on the cliffs are worth seeing, They are like 3000 years old!.
