Pfistern - Swiss restaurant in Luzern, Switzerland
First time trying cheese fondue 🫕 it tasted ok, slight salty but tasted OK with potato + bread. Staff here are a little unfriendly & hard sell (a little)We came here just for the cheese fondue due to good reviews but apparently they charge us for cleaning fees as 2 pax shared a fondue (? not sure if that’s normal for fondue placesoverall was a happy experience & was filling for 2pax!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
If you’re Asian, don’t visit this place! Service staff will either ignore you or outrightly discriminate you in your face.We asked service staff (Stephanienicely whether we can have a table outside. Was told rudely there is only one indoor table left for the night - with a “take it or leave it” attitude. We accepted the table without much hesitation cos we thought since we didn’t make any reservations, we shouldn’t be too picky. When an European couple came in 15minutes after us, Stephanie said loudly to them, standing less than a metre away from our table, “there’s a nice table at the balcony outside for you” in a really nice welcoming voice. We felt so humiliated instantly. She did not even bother being discreet about it. Did we deserve that kind of attitude and discrimination. We asked nicely and just wanted a good experience as we are on our honeymoon. Also, all the tables indoors had a nice candlelight on their table except ours. Is this also cos we are the only Asians there? We ordered a Cordon Blu and Rosti. Food is a little salty. Portions are huge. Please if management is reading this, kindly do something about your staff. To be fair, Stephanie might not be the worst staff there. At least she bothered serving us. The rest completely ignored us.
Food is great, ambience environment and very good service .
We went to eat dinner at Pfistern. We finally decided to order Fondue - our trip to Switzerland was coming to close and we thought it should not with cheese fondue which is considered to be the national dish of the country. Fondue was nice (though I do not have much experience with fondues to tell). The staff and friendly and helpful. The venue of the restaurant is great though it was raining so we sat inside.
Touristy place for sure.. Rude and condescending staff. Barely sat down and I gave my 4 year old child a piece of chocolate and some lady comes up telling me its not a picnic place! What! Was having a great day around Lucerne and this lady ruined the whole experience
Andrias was amazing. Great ambassador for the establishment. Fondue was exactly what you would expect.
BEAUTIFUL VIEWS. Food was very good and service was nice. Fondue was very strong if you aren’t used to it.
Had the trout, it didnt disappoint. Their apple tart was excellent, just the right amount of sweetness with tender slices of apple. Come for the food, stay for the schnapps.
Came here for an engagement celebration. Food was delicious and venue was beautiful. It was raining but we remained outside yet undercover at all times. Only point of improvement would be the speed of the service. This was quite slow. One man for a wide number of tables. No one came to check everything was alright with our food or for additional drinks. We took ages to wake the man down to order more.
Pretty overpriced as it is a tourist location. Food was ok but nothing incredible. Will likely be sitting in smoke since most seating is outdoors
Besides very lackluster cuisine, this restaurant has an unbelievable wine pricing policy. If you order a bottle wine to drink with your meal, the price is more than DOUBLE the listed menu price. Apparently they also sell “takeaway” wine and that is the price listed in bold on the menu and easily read in this dimly lit restaurant. The “table” price is listed in smaller font and the waiter made no effort to explain this quirky pricing policy. The wine we ordered that we thought was 36 CHF was actually 77 CHF on the final bill!Efforts to rectify this issue with the manager were to no avail.Avoid this place if you desire good food, fair pricing and customer service……
I would not recommend this place at all. To them, if you just want to order something little or even ask about the prices, you are "cheap" and not even worth their "service". The bald waiter was very rude and yelled at us. He demanded that we pay for each utencil he placed on the table. I can assure you that we were very polite. This could also be due to some racist opinions of his.Our experience was terrible.
Food was fine but nothing to get excited about. Pricey but that wasn’t unexpected for the location. The most disappointing part was when the bill came and we were charged CHF4.20 for tap water, after we’d specifically asked (in Germanfor tap water, rather than sparkling or still, because we didn’t want to pay. Not a huge amount of money but annoying when it wasn’t advertised anywhere in advance.
The view and location were great, the food was average but the service was dismal. It takes forever to get the attention of the waiters, when they did finally come with the wine it was the wrong bottle (and the wrong color of wine even), and even trying to order rosti as a side for one of the mains instead of the standard sides (which was listed as an option in the menuproved to be an ordeal. Save yourself the headache and dine at one of the many other fine establishments around.
Amazing restaurant 👌 Tasty food. Stunning view 9f Chapel bridge. It was nice evening
Enjoyed a coffee and a banana split here. The restaurant is located at the promenade with quite a few seats with a view on the water and the beautiful old buildings. The food was nicely prepared and tasty. The coffee was a good standard. Service was not super fast but we visited on a sunny, crowded day so this is kind of expected.
I was very offended by their customer service. I was offered to take a seat anywhere, but waited for ages and I finally had to ask to see the menu. The waiters were aware of me, but I was ignored. Other guests who sat down after me were offered menus and had their orders taken. I asked to have my order taken, waited, and the waiter only came as I stood up to leave.
We moved to Switzerland a year ago and our friend from the UK came to visit. We were having a nice day in Lucerne (yesterdayuntil we came to Pfistern restaurant as the waiter made us feel unwelcome and was very rude towards us (tone of voicelike we didnt belong. He was especially rude to our friend that was visiting from the UK, the waiter being fully aware that our friend didnt speak German kept speaking German with one or two English words thrown into a sentence trying to make him look stupid and feel bad that he couldnt speak German which wasnt cool at all.The waiter also made me take a personal item of mine off the table and said this is a restaurant you know in a nasty manner, acting like I didnt know it was a restaurant. This made the customers that were seated around our table look at us, it was embarrassing and humiliating. At the end of the day we were customers and would like to treated like a customer, which wasnt the case at all.
There are racist staffs. So rude. They just rejected me with no reason.I felt that he looked down on me because I was a solo asian, woman traveler.Maybe I seemed too easy for him.I felt so bad at the moment but I tried to be nice and asked to receptionist to make reservation for a patio table, if its full but he said No.I needed to take other table by my self.He worked to take a reservation from customers but he rejected my reservation. There was no explanation why and he just ignored me.I found one table was empty at outside so I asked to one of staff to take the table but he didnt want me to take and also ignored me. I asked him again and he said it’s already reserved. ?????Receptionist rejected me to make reservation but he took other customers reservation??? Because that customers werent asian? Or werent female? I dont get it. They are too rude. Horrible experience. If you are a solo woman, or asian, I don’t recommend you this restaurant. Too bad. They will look down on you. Horrible staffs!!
4 stars for the view, 3 stars for the level of service and staff’s enthusiasm. 2 stars for taste and value for money.
Nice meal with great view. Cheese was nice and good. Though a little pricey but it was worth it. Not too crowded on the day of my visit either.
1 star for good ambience and good venue.Another for the multilingual menu. However it lost out for:Staff that just doesnt smile and in general poor attitude. I had to ask for menu 2 times in order to get the full set of menu (food, drinks, wine in single glass)Food is pretty bad.Still had the cheek to ask if I wanted to tip. Would probably skip the cheese fondue here is you dont like smelly/strong flavors
Highly accessible, absolutely beautiful views and a wide variety of Swiss dishes to choose from. Enjoyed the tap beer, light and refreshing, not sure what it is called but it felt close to IPAAlways room for dessert and the Gelatos are amazing everywhere in Switzerland!
The food was OK, but not worth the price. The staff was really nice. If you’re going to eat here, make sure you get a table at the balcony (for the best view)
Nice view like other restaurants along the river but below average food quality and taste. The worst we had in Switzerland so far. We stopped by because of the multi-language menu but regretted we didn’t stay away.
A good local restaurant. A bit too crowded due to success but very likeable nonetheless.
After spending a long afternoon in Luzern my wife and I wanted to just sit down and have dinner by Lake Luzern. We also wanted to try traditional Swiss food and Raclette was one of the popular items here so we chose to go with this place. We ordered Raclette with three cheese and Falafel bowl. We didnt know eating Raclette would mean us having to heat up different types of cheese and pour melted cheese onto the veggies. I would say it was good as an experience but food was just okay. Would be good for cheese lovers I think. Falafel and hummus was really good but that only consisted of 20% of the bowl, the rest was filled with veggies and majority lettuce. Overall food was okay but location is really good by the lake!
Good place with really nice location. It was nice to experience authentic Swiss flavors, however, nothing is truly special or outstanding that would merit 5 stars.
Never been so upset with a meal. We ordered one fondue, and they served us two portions without telling us(an extra 40 franc). We also ordered the Raclette which was served as sliced, unmelted cheese that we had to melt ourselves(difficult on our table slanted at a 30 degree angle). We spent over $100 on food we could have gotten for $10 at a deli and cooked at home. When we asked the waiter about the fondue price, he gave us a sly smile reminiscent of a slimy used car salesman that knows he is about to scam a well-to-do customer. This meal was so bad, and the waiter so rude, that it may have ruined my day and even my time in Switzerland.
Absolutely poor customer service. I waved at one of the waiters for a drink (30C and 3pm - so it’s hotand she acknowledged and just never showed up. She almost dismissed me saying I’m too busy for your order.I told our main waiter this happened and the other waiter confronted me saying “you have a problem with me”..: it’s totally messed up. No customer should be treated like this.Food is average. Location and view is spectacular to be honest. But coming from the US, maybe my expectations are too high. There are other places around the same area with better food. Go try them.
🇮🇹 Worst restaurant Ive ever been to, such a beautiful city doesnt deserve this. Disrespectful, snooty and incredibly incompetent waiters, things never seen before: fingers in the glass to bring beer, waiters who drop a jar of mayonnaise at the table next to ours and put it back on the customers table as if nothing had happened, salad served with single portions of sauces placed right on top of the food, after being pulled out of a drawer I dont think its clean. Waiters who, although there are not many people, wait years before coming to ask us for something, furthermore at the time of payment (which occurred as we requested at the tablethe waiter leans, awkwardly and disrespectfully, himself and the wallet full of coins on the table, starting to rummage, for at least 2 minutes, looking for the rest. Trust me there is much more to say, but Ill stop here. Total incompetence and disrespect for the customer, in addition to the poor quality of the food. Dont go there.🇨🇭 worst restaurant Ive ever been to 🇨🇭
Awesome food but their Srilankan waiter was obnoxious. When I was settling the bill I asked him to adjust all my loose change against the bill…and he refused to as he said he had enough coins already on him.that’s his problem not mine. Will love to go back as long as I don’t get served by him…no customer orientation at all don’t know why he is still employed by twm
Excellent service and food, first experience with Swiss cuisine like fondue, Raclette. Nice outdoor dinning. @live2njoy
Caution! Do not eat at this restaurant. Its embellished exterior and waterside views may draw you in, but don’t let this overconfident facade convince you to waste your money and time. Just reading the first page of the menu should be enough to ward you off; the flowery language boasting about the restaurant’s commitment to “spoil you” is a clear sign of overcompensation. Simply put, the food is overpriced for its quality. The fondue is $70 and is horrifically underwhelming. The beer-battered perch is a measly serving of fish sticks. The falafel salad includes a total of five tiny, firm falafel atop a bed of watery greens and the worst excuse for hummus I have ever encountered (it looks and tastes like someone unloaded a refrigerated can of chickpeas into a food processor and blended it for ten seconds, added no seasoning, and scooped it onto the bowl). The bratwurst is far too salty and greasy. The bread is at best mediocre— in the fondue serving it was pretty good, but for the main course we were given a plate of what looked like Wonderbread and some butter packets. If you end up making the regrettable decision to eat here, please try to get a seat near the water. It would be the only way to rescue your dining experience. Please do yourself a favor and walk away from Pfistern. Go literally anywhere else.
Appetisers arrived timely. But everything pretty much went downhill from there. We waited over 30 mins for our fondue and mains. After waiting, we asked them to check with the kitchen as we noticed that other tables have started receiving their fondues and mains despite arriving significantly later than us. When the food finally arrived, we informed a male server that we waited close to 45mins and he blamed it on the Cordon Bleu having to take 20 mins to cook. We knew that when we ordered but we found it ridiculous that our fondue took the same amount of time to arrive. We pointed that out, rather than being apologetic, he got defensive and blamed it on a fully booked restaurant. When we arrived and ordered, there were still a fair amount of empty tables. It also doesn’t explain how some tables despite arriving so much later than us, got their food way earlier than us though.Might be a race thing. Noticed 2 of the servers glancing our way and laughing and whispering to each other. We were the only table on that section. If you’re not white as in Caucasian or have any in your group, you might want to skip this restaurant. They definitely treated the Caucasians around us with more energy, warmth and friendliness.DO NOT recommend this place at all if you’re in Lucern. Food was mediocre and very salty and overcooked. I had hoped that despite the horrible service and possible racism, that the food might save the day. But alas, that was not the case. Save your money and head elsewhere, unless you enjoy racist treatments, mediocre food and horrible service.
We ordered one plate to shared and they charged CHF-4 extra just to share food. I don’t get it But ok. Almost everyone spoke English….. it felt like a very touristic place full of history. Switzerlandfood.
Amazing restaurant, delicious, great view, fondue is a must.
Such a lovely restaurant, we ate on the 2nd floor patio overlooking the lake and bridge, it was great for people watching! We shared the cheesecake to start and pork cordon blue as our main, both were yummy. Our server was sweet and attentive, well be back for sure!
Excellent place to sit and have a nice meal along the river with a good view.Staff were very welcoming and attentive and food was good. Portion of food were very generous for us.
Price is on the high side but food was impeccable. Delicious and hearty Swiss food.
Great location and view. The fondue was ok, but my favorite part is their local cold cut meat. Those are delicious!
YUMMY! Great food and service, amazing view! Very romantic and just adorable place to have a lunch, dinner or just a drink/dessert. You can get a big variety of dishes, drinks and desserts, menu can fulfill everyone’s needs. Would love to come back again! Prices are fine. Better to pay 3-5 francs more for a dish to sit in this beautiful restaurant, rather than somewhere else. Recommended!
We had dinner at Pfistern on Friday night and it was excellent. The food was great and the staff super friendly! In general the Swiss people are very friendly by the way. The view over the water and the Luzern bridge is great. I had my first fondue and it was delicious.
We ordered the fondue to share, and also shared a beautiful lemon pasta dish pictured here. We NEVER get dessert, but were tempted by the banana split... and it did NOT disappoint. Truly delicious! We had a cozy table inside, it was perfect. The decor is charming, and the staff was wonderful. It’s a must in Lucerne!!
Came here to try some authentic Swiss food. Location and views are beautiful! Sat in their balcony area upstairs. Staff was great, food was good. A little pricey but would highly recommend. 👍🏼
The location of Pfistern is great. Dining here is enjoyable, especially seating on the balcony. The food is nice but a bit expensive. The staff and service are fantastic.
Now I found my spot in Luzern!!!One of the best spot to chill and relax. Overview of the iconic bridge. The food choices are fantastic.Swiss restaurant and European food. I highly recommend for tourists and new comers to the city. Also great place to bring visitors. The prices are regular Swiss price !! So understandable
Incredible!!! Have to go!!! Must see!!!Really feels like the heart of Luzern is here! Great food! Great atmosphere! Little pricey but really worth it! Enjoyed the Rösti Pfeschtere (the Egg one), and my wife had the Chalbsgschnatzlets (The Veal one), the both were to die for!!!Really incredible experience I truly wish more people go!
This is a hard review due to the evening being good but also having some real down points. Like many others we ordered the fondue which was terribly bitter. I’d like to think it was just how strong the traditional cheese is but I’ve had other fondue that were much better. My son had a run in with cockroaches in the bathroom as well. Now onto the good. We had an amazing table right at the waters edge - beautiful. The other meals were tasty and everyone enjoyed. I recommend having an appetizer and a drink with dessert for this restaurant.
I visit this place twice , i Love the place and there`s terrace, you can enjoy the view with the Chapel bridge, mountains and all without jostling the crowds below. Friendly service, well prepared food. They serve traditional Swiss dish, i chose the typical Swiss dish the Swiss veal in creamy mushroom sauce, served with rosti. I love it. Also the desert was so good.highly recommended.
