Peshawar museum had some fascinating artifacts. The two downsides were that the back history of each artifact wasnt explained. It told you what it was but not how they were acquired. The second point was there was no restaurant and the washrooms were horrifically disgustingly dirty.

The Peshawar Museum is located in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Peshawar Museum was founded in 1907 as "Victoria Hall," in memory of Queen Victoria. The 2 story building was built in a syncretic architectural style consisting of British, Hindu, Buddhist and Mughal Islamic styles. The museum initially had only one exhibition hall, but 2 more were added in 1969–70. In 2004–05.The museum was further expanded with the construction of a new block with two galleries, two halls for the museums collection in storage, offices for the provincial directorate of archaeology, a conservation laboratory and a cafeteria. The historic exhibition hall was also renovated at that time. The current collection has almost 14,000 items based on Gandhara, Greco-Buddhist, Kushan, Parthian, and Indo-Scythian life. Examples include art, sculptures, coins, manuscripts, statues, ancient books, early versions of the Quran, weapons, dresses, jewelry, Kalash effigies, inscriptions, paintings of the Mughal and later periods, household materials and pottery, as well as local and Persian handicrafts. It has 8,625 coins, 4,510 of which are pre-Islamic. The main interest of the museums numismatic collection is that the coins were recovered from archaeological sites, including: Shah-Ji-Ki-Dheri, Shari Bahlol, Takht-i-Bahi and Jamal Garhi. The collections of Bactrian Greek, Indo-Greek, Indo-Scythian, Indo-Parthian and Kushan coins have been published. This gallery exhibits wooden facades of mosques, ancient Arabic and Persian inscriptions, fine Multani tiles and ceramics, and the dresses and weapons of Syed Ahmad Shaheed Barailvi and numerous ancient leaders. Some of the best works are the Mughal Islamic metal artifacts in bronze and silver, the calligraphic specimens and scrolls that date as far back as 1224.

Peshawar Museum is housed in a beautiful old building.Entry fee is nominal 5/10 rupees but if you want to take pictures inside Museum, you will need to pay 300 Pkr.They have good collection of Gandhara civilization statues and artifects. All the ground floor is dedicated to Gandhara Art.First floor has some historical pictures related to Pakistan Movement and later period. A good collection of vintage guns and some more cultural artifects.Museum is seriously lacks diversification. In one room there was posters of Iran, commercial posters, not work of art.Govt and private sponsors must donate objects and other museums may lend their archives on rotation basis to this Museum so that it can attract people of all ages and interests.

The Peshawar Museum is renowned for its collection of Gandharan Art. The Peshawar Museum was founded in 1907 in memory of Queen Victoria. The two-story building features an amalgamation of British, South Asian, Hindu, Buddhist and Mughal Islamic architectural styles. Originally, there was only one main hall. Two halls were added in 1969-70. In 2004-05, an additional block was completed with two galleries, two halls for the reserve collection, offices for the provincial directorate of archaeology, a conservation laboratory and a cafeteria. The original building was renovated during that timeThe present main hall was built in 1906-07 in the memory of Queen Victoria at the cost of Rs. 60000, out of which Rs. 45000 were donated by the public of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa and Rs.15000 by the Director General of Archaeology, India. After completion of the building, the museum was set up in November 1907 to house the Gandharan Sculptures excavated from the major Gandharan sites of Shah-Ji-Ki-Dheri Peshawar, Sahri Bahlol, Takht-i-Bahi in the Mardan District and later from Jamal Garhi and other Gandharan sites excavated by British scholars. The two storey building, an amalgamation of the British and Mughal architectures, originally consisted of a main hall and two side aisles on the ground and first floor, surmounted by four elegant cupolas and small pinnacles on all the corners. On Ihe eastern and western side of the building, two halls were added in similar fashion in 1969-70 (one on each side). In 1974-75, The second storey was added to these side halls .The other sections of museum covered the era of Muslims and Tribal. The prize possession of the museum is however, the Kanishka casket recovered from Shah-ji-Dheri on the outskirts of Peshawar during the archeological excavations conducted in 1908-9. The inscribed casket in Kharosti contained three fragments of bone of the Buddha, which were given by the British Government to the Buddhist Society of Burma, which re-shrined them at Madalay. This famous casket is on display in this museum. There are some engraved gems, pottery, ivory shells and metal objects. Electrotypes of the early coins of the northwest frontier and lithic inscriptions in Kharoshti, sardar garhi. The coins collection of Peshawar Museum, 8625 items in all (stores and display excluding the newly excavated), includes Punch marked coins, and coins from the Indus Greeks, Scytho-Parthians, Kushans, White Huns, and Hindu Shahis. Also included are Islamic coins of the Ghaznavids, Ghaurids, Slave Dynasties, Tughlaqs, Lodhis, Mughals, Durranis, Sikh and British periods. The coins are in Gold, Silver, Copper and Billon. These coins are found in round, square and rectangular
