Perut Rumah Nyonya Cuisine - Nyonya restaurant in George Town, Malaysia
Decent authentic Nyonya food. Portion of the food is kinda small for the price youre paying.
Finally, found a Nyonya that serves good authentic nyonya dishes. The assam prawns and assam pedas fish gulai were excellent. Like mama used to cook them. Highly recommended for those looking for real nyonya food. Not all restaurants that claims to serve nyonya food serves authentic stuff. The restaurant is well decorated with heritage stuff and is cozy, housed in a heritage house in Georgetown. With the tables set in individual rooms of the house to give a cosy homely feeling maintaining privacy while dining. The waitresses were dressed in tradition kebaya which add color to the place.
I like the vinegar pork trotter. The ambience is decorated with nice nyonya stuffs.
Had my dinner at Perut Rumah in Jalan Bawasah last evening and here is my short review. The place is nicely decorated inside and out, with many classic furnitures and decor. Parking is street parking and we were lucky to found parking quite easily. We ordered the Gulai Tumis Ang Hu, Kiam Chia Ark, Deep Fried Spring Rolls, Jiu Hu Char and Enchi Cabin Chicken, with two desserts ~ bubur chacha and bee koh moi, four large rice plus one small rice and 4 kekwa drinks.Food wise I would say is just average, the Gulai Tumis not spectacular, slightly bland, not what I expected from this famous place. The jiuhu char is not too bad, and I would say is probably the best dish we had, together with the enchi cabin chicken. The chicken is flavorful and tender while the spring rolls are nice but the Lea&Perrin dipping sauce is not as good as many others I have had before. For dessert wise, the bee koh moi (black glutionous riceand bubur cha cha is not too bad and above average.Pricewise came up to about RM192 which I felt slightly on the high side for four pax.
Foods are authentic and excellent. Nasi ulam is the best. Decorations are nice with a lot of interesting nonya wares. Highly recommend.
Average food, terrible services. Nyonya Breeze Desire at Straits Quay offers better Nyonya food.
Despite reserving our table one week in advance and being the 1st customer for lunch at 12.15, we were given a table next to the toilet entrance even though there were no other patrons! I’m surprised they have celebrated their 10th anniversary with such customer service. The food was just mediocre so don’t bother with the fuss.
Its a cozy and tastefully decorated traditional Nyonya house serving authentic Nyonya cuisine. We have got very good services from the wait staff, good recommendations on food ordering. I had a lovely time dining with my family here. The only thing I didnt enjoy was the Kuih Pai Tee shells were stale and too oily. Overall, it was a nice place for Nyonya cuisine.
Best Nyonya Cuisine we had in Penang ! Would go back again when we visit the place. Their nyonya fried chicken, asam prawns and Jin Har Char are must order! If you want to try their soup, it is recommend to have 4 people with u at least. As they do not sell portions for less than 4 people. I like the restaurant decorations and music they played a very1980s flavour!
One of the few places that serve nyonya food.A little tucked away but absolutely worth a visit.Gedongdong drink is quite different with slight sour mixed with sweet.Fried chicken, chicken curry and basically any dish you fancy to order is worth having.
Once we were sitted, we were greeted with extremely bad service. The ordering process was rush through by 1 of their female staff though it is our first time here and we were looking for introduction. The only good dish that we enjoy was the fried chicken. Other dishes was just normal to below plain. We paid close to 300 for 7 of us. Did not ordered their fish head and prawn.
The place is quaint and very nicely decorated. Very retro feel inside, even the songs played are oldies. Food is tasty enough. I think the price is quite reasonable.3 of us ordered 5 dishes, 3 drinks and 3 desserts and the bill was RM 160 ++.
While nyonya food is always debatable as to which is the best, it is important to get at least a few dishes right in terms of how it would look or taste. Perut Rumah Nyonya delivers on most dishes, and we left satisfied. Chien Or Bak (stir fried soya sauce porkand Hu Chih Char (stir fried shark finwere good. While we ordered both versions of fried chicken - Belachan Chicken (shrimp paste chickenand Inchee Kabin (Nyonya Fried Chicken), i preferred the latter which made for a more unique taste than the former. Take note though, its a little more on the salty side for general tatsebuds.
Its a cozy and tastefully decorated traditional Nyonya house serving authentic Nyonya cuisine. We have got very good services from the wait staff, good recommendations on food ordering. Foods are normal only. Foods are not hot enough and the braised pork was disappointed as the eggs were cold inside. It should be frozen dish. Service is okay but we felt being cheated as we told them we want small portion dishes as 4 of them cannot take spicy food and dont like Asam. The Asam fish we expected is small portion but ended up it was whole fish.
We orderedPai Tee, Tau Eu Bak, Tu Kar Chor, Sambal Udang, Kiam Chai Boay. There were all horrible. All the dishes came luke warm, not piping hot. None of the dishes had any taste. It was bad. I wanted to go to Jasons Nyonya Rest but they are closed. Im sorry but the food here really sucked.
Great nyonya food with reasonable pricing! Will come again next time :)
Best place for Nyonya food in Penang Island
Elegant restaurant with Nyonya dishes. The service was great and the waitress recommended us signature dishes patiently.
1The most expensive nyonya food in town!!! On top of that, though we ordered & paid so much, the restaurant was still charging us for plain water.2Food portion was very small for big group charging at such high pricing!3The cashier & upstairs cafe staff were unfriendly!4Basically, we were extremely unhappy over everything with much regrets.5This will be the 1st & last time we were there for nyonya food, never ever thought of going back again!
Very nice Nyonya dishes was served here as per recommended by a friend the original Nyonya recipes quite lots of varieties can be found in the Menu. Wow! Very tasty. Below are some of the Nyonya dishes.
You need a reservation, otherwise wait for an open table. Food portions are petite but enough for us the small eaters. Parking could be an issue, just like every where in Penang!
A convenient location. Authentic nyonya ambience. Food & price average. Service is good.
As a Penangnite, I can confirm they serve authentic nyonya dishes. Just a little bit pricey. Average RM55-60 per pax.
I dont know much about these kind of food, but i think this is prety authentic and not a bad place to eat in Penang. I ate beter ones in Penang, but i dunno which ones more authentic. Place is quite nice compare to some other place i check in here, toilet a bit dirty though.
Very instagram friendly place with a Peranakan ambience, clean with natural lighting. Dishes are okay with the otah I think a must try.
This is old heritage house bring me back to my own grandma house. Is very traditional Nyonya food is very good and bang on. Bring friends so can have more than 2 to 3 fish. You won’t be sorry
We were seated at 21:05 and had to order by 21:10 as the kitchen was closing. The food arrived at 21:20 and we had just finished eating by 21:40. The bill was presented (unaskedat 21:45 and we were outside again at 21:50. All staff had left the restaurant before 22:00. The decor is authentic but our group of 6 felt totally rushed and somewhat disappointed by the small portions. The staff gave us the strong impression they would rather not serve us at all, there are so many good restaurants in Penang with much friendlier staff and better food. Maybe the boss was away?
Lovely place to gather and have a decent Nyonya food. Relaxing and comfortable ambience all around. You are surrounded by countless Baba & Nyonya decorations.Food served is delicious and close to perfection and authenticity. Unfortunately, we can only order that much at lunch for a table of seven.Overall, we felt comfortable and welcomed. As time draws near, you will be sure of gentle but constant reminder that your time is up, by carefully stationed sentries. A rude awakening that the end is near.Nevertheless, this would not stop me from patronising this fine restaurant again, but definitely not until I get over the ordeal that my glass was not refilled with plain water, even after a polite request. A reminder that times are hard these days and sky juice is scarce in town. So, to all those people out there, for a memorable experience in delicious Nyonya food and courteous waitress, do drop by for a bite or two.Oh yes, do bring along a bottle of water, just in case restaurants policy is still enforced.Bon appetit.
Food not bad, house designed with baba nyonya style, recommend to go
Tasty nyonya food at affordable pricing. Authentic taste and very warm hospitality.
Food was good but I dont feel like the portion was value for the price. Service was hampered by the layout of the place; with multiple rooms, its hard to call waitstaff if youre in the inner area near the entrance to the toilet. Ambiance was nice with a lot of traditional Nyonya decor.
Well decorations with nyonya style and signature food is highly recommended.
Food was okay, not bad.Services not good too.But what I dislike most was its their ridiculous excuses to charge extra money. When Malaysia already abolished GST, this restaurant charges a weird "SERVICE TAX" ON TOP OF THEIR USUAL SERVICE CHARGE. If earning extra few ringgit is so important. Jolly well give it to them.Just dislike the idea of doing such acts to earn that pathetic dollars and cents.
They are good not only the food, but also the decoration. Price is a bit medium high, but still ok la.As you can see from the picture, each corner of this restaurant is nicely decorated, including the ceiling and the wash room.Parking is an issue here, u have to park somewhere nearby and walk here.
Nonya cuisine. Need to book in advance. Walk-in are not entertained.
Despite what other reviewers have posted we had no issues with the service at all even though were were there on a fairly busy weekend evening.I was here a couple of years ago and while I rate the food as still pretty good overall I think the quality of a couple of dishes has dropped a small notch.Having said that - Id recommend this place without reservation.
A very nice setting for a Nonya dinner. Service is good. Food lives up to expectations.
Good food, nice decor and ambience
Ulam is good. Rest is average. On the pricy side but good ambience
I had read so many good reviews of this restaurant and decided to give it a try. I was utterly disappointed. The dishes that were served were not warm. It felt like the food were all cooked in a huge pot from morning and served in portion upon receiving the orders. The Otah-Otah was hot, but it was bland. Felt like it was steamed for too long. The service was average. Ambient is good. Price is relatively high. So if you are interested to pay high price for a nice ambient place to eat cold food, this can satisfy you.
The food was not bad but the staffing needed improvement
The food is tasty and good Peranakan feel in terms of ambience and decoration.
While the food in itself was tasty, what arrived at the table was not what was ordered. The quality of the flavours was good but for example, the sweet potato dish had very little sweet potato in it and the soy beef had far too much tofu. The welcome was brusque, bordering on rude as we arrived an hour before closing but were told before we even sat down that we would have to hurry up and order as the kitchen was closing at 9.30pm. Having said that at least the service was prompt. We were under constant scrutiny throughout which was intimidating than attentive. In summary: only fair for food flavour but not what was ordered and swift but rude service.
The food is really good. Even a couple of my friends who are not really into peranakan food, commented that the food is delicious. The place is nicely decorated in traditional style, giving a homely ambience. And it is air-conditioned, so you can eat in comfort, despite the heat outside. The price is slightly on the high side though.
Perut Rumah has a well-maintained Nyonya style interior. Its a non-halal restaurant serving delicious Nyonya cuisine (although many items on the menu were unavailable when we visited the restaurant), good customer service, slightly pricey but worth the gastronomic experience. And the best hot honey lemon beverage Ive ever tasted!Poor toilet cleanliness (room for improvement).
What a delight. This has to be my no. 1 nyonya restaurant in the whole of Malaysia.
Unique Penang Nyonya food as compared to Melacca and Singapore. Delicious. Worth to try here.
Tasty food - and some interesting dishes that id never tried before.
Food is very good. Toilet is clean. Many decorations around the place. Nice place to go.
