Compact, modern cafe with an expansive wine list plus cheese, charcuterie & Mediterranean mains.
The food was good, but be sure all the components are on your plate. The service was spotty. The owner when notified of a mistake in our order, argued to the point of making her customers uncomfortable. We spent a lot of money for a lousy experience.
A hidden gem in “mountains”! To the point French inspired cuisine, all prepared with love and delicious! Great deviled eggs and escargot, mains are large and delicious. Remember to get bread is you ordering mussels, dipping is mouthwatering!
I really wanted to have a great meal here and had been planning the dinner with my mother for a while as we both enjoy French cuisine. unfortunately, I got food poisoning. I could taste something was off in the chicken stuffed with crab and spat it out in my napkin. Some of it still went down and I was unwell for about 24 hours..I will say that when I communicated what happened to our server she was very gracious and told the kitchen what happened immediately. Kitchens can be very careful with seafood and poultry but it really only takes very mild contamination or slightly being undercooked to cause illness. Im not sure if I will return as the experience really did leave a bad taste in my mouth.
I visited here with my wife for the first time this past weekend. Excellent service, atmosphere, drinks, appetizers, and dessert. Ill easily be back here again :)
Food here is amazing. Oysters Uni was delicious. Desserts were wonderful. Everything we ordered from start to finish was good!
Good bartenders & food quality. Too expensive for what you get. Rent to compensate for food pricing. Not commensurate with quality.
Experience, service, food, drinks. This place comes through and does not disappoint.Luxurious and decadent food with staff that delivers a comforting and welcoming atmosphere.
Awesome spot to grab a bite and chill. Great wine select. Ok food menu. Staff were on point.Def go back.
Walked in with no Rez! Sat at bar and had delicious. The aroma from the kitchen is nice!
The bone marrow and tar tar are always a favorite. They also have a beautiful caviar service.
Very nice wine bar with great food. Really enjoyed the devilled eggs and tartare with bone marrow. Only issue is the wines are all pretty pricey. Would love it if there some sub-$10 glasses.
Went on a Sunday 11am ish. They had a DJ playing a mix of old and current urban music. The crowd didnt start picking up until closer to 12-1pm. I had the French onion burger. Food and atmosphere was cute. Id go again!
Last night was so special. We started with the Montclair Manhattan, so smooth and complex aromatics. This bistro bar concocts excellent, original cocktails by Rob at the helm. Then the board of charcuterie arrived with Mimolette, Chèvre, NDujia and Saussicon Sec, fresh bread, and many clever accoutrements including a pickled Julienne carrot melange. The mushroom pasta ragout and citrus salad were divine and followed by appropriate pairings of Cabernet Sauvignon and sumptuous Beaujolais. Portions are generous and grounds for a gourmet lunch the following day. A 10-year Sandeman port capped off the perfect evening to celebrate a colleagues’ new job in with Arthur Anderson in San Francsico. 10/10
Great little place. Apparently, we were there during an important baseball game. They showed the game at their screen but still the restaurant was almost empty. There is quiet a few seats outside but also inside. The food is amazing. Even though it may sound a little scary at the beginning the bone marrow was superb. The staff was super friendly and gave good recommendations. Definitely, check it out and enjoy
Good food but only 1 page food menu, looks like their wine menu is way bigger! Good cocktails is you are into it. Expected smaller portions for the area.
Now this restaurant was so amazing. Every dish we ordered had so much flavor. It was my first time having bausoleil oysters and they were delicious, along with the sauces. The deviled eggs with the fried oyster and the salmon toast are a must have. Our grand finally was the fromage blanc, truffles and fennel raviolis.
Overall, had a great experience at Perle! Food was great except for perhaps a couple of side dishes which were just ok, but not a big deal; dessert was amazing and I was so happy to get a glass of Sauternes with it, which is usually just available at really high end places. Service was really friendly but quite slow (took 3 hours for a simple weekday meal!). The main waiter apologized and offered to pay for drinks, which we declined, but still comped the dessert. Thats really good reaction to feedback we gave and earned them a 5-star ratings despite the small issues. Happy to say we will be back for sure as its now one of the closest restaurent to our new place!
What a treat! Excellent food, presentation, taste, choices were spectacular. Only complaint was service was too slow. Dinner ran 2.5 hours
Celebrated a very special milestone birthday of my partners at this marvelous establishment, which honestly made the event that much better. Happy to have had been both recommended and invited to dine here by family who had raved about it. And for all the accolades given, Perle was not undersold in its excellence in attention to cuisine and wines.Just East enough away from the bustle of San Francisco, and shy, below the beautiful wine valleys of California, Perle Wine Bar is nestled cozily on a quiet posh street in Oakland. We dined one Thursday evening on the 25th of March 2021 to an a la-carte array befitting a tasting menu of much from what Perle has to offer.Bravo to the chef and kitchen as well as to the front of house and service staff for such a marvelous meal and such a wonderful experience which will keep our memories of our little celebration reminiscing your restaurant in equal favour.
This place has a fantastic wine list, and incredible food. The staff really know their stuff, and I really helpful if youre not quite sure what you want to eat or drink. They have figured out the pandemic opening up really well as well, with lovely outside dining.
Every dish was terrific and our wine paired perfectly. Duck rillettes, roasted chicken, mushroom pasta. All perfectly made. Ended w hot chocolate pot de creme and creme brulee 😍
Splurged on Perle for my Birthday tonight. I never imagined it could be so good! I’ve assumed that fine cuisine wouldn’t survive pandemic takeout. Surprised to find it to be the most memorable birthday dinner I’ve had. We ordered the filet mignon - beautiful prepared and packaged to preserve the integrity of the ingredients. Wild mushrooms, seared duck liver, tender filet mignon came with a fresh arugula salad and a crisp and perfect créme brûlée dessert. So many layers of flavors and bright notes! My husband and I both thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Thank you, Perle!
My family has lived in Montclair for decades. Now, we are blessed to have one of our favorite restaurants just a few minutes from home. Perle provides fine dining quality food and style for an affordable price (entrees are around $30).Chef Rob has a remarkable passion for food, which is evident in every bite you take and on full display with Perles open kitchen. Meanwhile, Chef Robs co-owner, Marcus, runs the front of the house and serves as the sommelier. His professionalism and hospitality match any fine dining establishment, but he has that unique ability to sincerely and genuinely treat every guest like family.Go for the food because it is precise and deliberate. Stay for the people because Rob and Marcus are great at what they do in the restaurant, but also the type of people you want as your neighbors, friends, and family!ALL-STAR PEOPLE: Chef Rob and Marcus.
Excellent food, great wine and premium cocktail selection not to mention the great service! Highly recommend takeout or outdoor/sidewalk service.
We went for my Husbands birthday. Amazing service, our server (Dannywas outstanding! Although he was new to serving at this hour. He still was able to explain the menu, and best of all..for the information that he lacked, his willingness to immediately find out and understand was refreshing. The only negative was that they only have 1 bathroom, other than that I wouls have given them a 5 start rating. We will come back again..for sure!
Awesome atmosphere, great bar staff, A really nice place to just chill and have a couple friends to have drinks with. Highly recommend for hanging out with small group of friends after work or a weekend afternoon/evening!
We were at Perle for their Monday Prime Rib dinner. Both the food and service were very good. They have a good selection of wines. This is a small restaurant, so booking a table is a good idea.
Came here for Prime Rib Mondays with three of my good friends. It was our first time here, and needless to say well be back. The restaurant atmosphere is cozy and elegant, the service was attentive and friendly, and the food was delicious. Didnt manage to get pictures of the prime rib or salmon main course, but pictured are two first course options (mushroom soup and avocado toast), and the dessert course: pumpkin pie with berry compote. 😋
Tartare (coupé au couteau pour les français with truffled caviar on top? What?! I have no words. Just amazing.Impeccable service to top it off. Oh and out-of-this-world oysters! Such an experience. Thank you!
Great restaurant and addition to Montclair. Feels like a really nice neighborhood restaurant in a great way. Nice inside but not stuffy at all. The food we had was inventive and very good. Well thought out wines by the glass that represent a good price spread across several good regions.
Went for brunch. Egg white avocado frittata was really good. Well seasoned. Not greasy and stayed hotThe hashbrowns were light and tasty. Service was wonderful. Next time I want to try the oysters and deviled egg
Great wine selection including a good by the glass champagne selection. The food and service surprisingly good at this price point. Just goes to show, good customer service orientation shouldnt cost more. Its a matter of creating a culture, hiring the right people and training them.
Very interesting and imaginative food. All of the appetizers were great, especially the oysters with caviar, uni, and salmon roe and the bone marrow and beef tartar. For the entrees, we had the pork chop was also delicious and perfectly cooked and the Wagyu beef.Great place for just drinks or a full meal. Not a huge dining room so I would highly recommend reservations for paid larger than 6. We will definitely come back soon.
We had dinner before Berkeley Rep & plan to put this little jewel in our regular rotation. Our waiter, Brian, was a total delight. Everything we ate had that little extra ingredient, or textural note, to push it over the top to something special. From the smoked salmon toasts & pear & endive salad, to the bavette steak & linguini alle vongole, all the way to the hot chocolate pot de creme which was, as Brian promised, "to die for." Along w/very good cocktails and an excellent wine list, we already look forward to our return.
Beautiful little Sunday brunch here at this French bistro. Its tucked away in the Montclair neighborhood with a great local vibe. The unique starter of deviled eggs topped with a fresh fried oyster and a little bit of roe was amazing. The chicken and waffle was a distinctly French take with a small, plump sweet waffle and two tender pieces of bird. Frittatas and salad were amazing. So was the bread, as it should be at any bistro. I hear dinner is even better. Would love to try it.
This place is incredible!!! The Chef brought his talents to Oakland from SF and made this Resturant a hidden gem!!! A+ food if you want to eat and have your taste buds satisfied as well as your belly. We plan on being regulars here for a LONG TIME!!!
Nice neighborhood spot in Montclair. The starters, wine and cocktails are quite good. The mains are a bit overthought and pricey with the exception of the burger which is excellent and a good deal. I’d recommend coming here to eat starters or a burger at the bar. The atmosphere is quaint but a little cold and could be significantly better if they made the entrance a little more attractive and added some acoustic treatments to handle noise.
Love having this place in the neighborhood. Marcus does a great job of always making you feel recognized and welcome. Wine bar yes but no problem stopping in for a cocktail instead.
We had the prix fixe menu, with the onglet steak. It was amazing! Super flavorful and tender. Better than any steak I had on my last trip to Paris.
I was there for a private work event. Food was delicious and so was the wine. The bouillabaisse was wonderful
Everyone there was very friendly and knowledgeable, I really enjoyed the food, and the wine list is great. Plus they had live music. I really enjoyed it and I will be going back.
They should really rebrand themselves and not include "fine wine and cocktails." the food here is AMAZING. the beef tartare with bone marrow. oysters with uni OMG incredible. oyster shooters had complexity and were delish. the only thing i didnt like was their seafood entree, and we only chose that because they took off our regular from the menu (the steak with foie gras - OUT OF THIS WORLD). Drinks were OK. Dessert was wonderful - presentation, taste, temperature.
Attended a private event here. Really excellent space to have a private event. Food and drinks were delicious! Cant wait to come here for dinner!
Newbies in the neighborhood and just happened upon this place and it was a great experience. We were headed for sushi next door but got rejected because we didnt have a reservation even though they had 6 empty tables.Lucky for us!Alex was at the door at Perle and was strait forward about our chances, but didnt rule out getting in for dinner. We killed some time and when we returned he went out of his way to shoehorn us in at the counter. The place has that great classic bistro feel.. like you could be in any metropolitan city in the world. Our stoolmates were friendly and entertaining, the bartender was attentive and made us feel like we were dining with family. Now the food.... Well for us it was fantastic! Were recent transplants from SF and weve dined in all sorts of restaurants all over the world and this place is at the top of our list.We had a great bottle of pino recommended by their sommelier, the oysters with Thai dipping sauce, beef tartar with bone marrow and trout roe, and the biggest muscles I ever seen with spicey meatballs. What a great combination!Every dish was plate licking good!Highly recommend this place for a friendly & casual dining experience. You wont want to leave....
This new place looks great. It was crowded and VERY loud on a Friday night. Clientele much more Montclair than Oakland.Menu is very edited, bistro-ish focused on oysters and caviar. Normally I am fine with a short menu but this was pretty repetitive so the choices were very limited. Prices are high. Good wine list with probably more than 15 wines by the glass.Service was a little awkward, and we waited over 20 after our first course was cleared to get the second course.Food was hit and miss. Green salad, well you dont expect too much, but most good places will do something interesting. This was pretty much just leaves on a plate, and the dressing was unevenly applied and all the pepper came in one bite. Mushroom soup was OK if very small-maybe 3 ounces? Oysters ironically were the low point; not delicious and too many things on top. Beef tartare with truffles and caviar was good.
We went for Sunday Brunch with family and friends this afternoon and had a fantastic time! The menu is great... The decor is beautiful. The wine list is to.die.for. Its a well stocked, no joke wine list, at really fair prices. And we had some excellent cocktails. Is describe the fare as French with an American/California flair. Everything is very well thought out and cohesive. We had Bloody Marys (yum); the cheese platter (double yum); the mushroom cappuccino soup, which was warm and lovely, smelled as incredible as it tasted, and was presented beautifully; the eggs Benedict was divine - the best Ive had in a very long time, with nice, crisp ham and perfect hollandaise; the avocado and smoked salmon toasts were light and beautiful and super tasty; and the burger was RIDICULOUSLY delicious, served with melty cheese and carmelized onions and a jus for dipping. My daughter ordered it, but I ended up eating about half of it because it was just that good. The service was fast and friendly, and the ambience was comfortable and welcoming. Just thinking about the food is making me hungry! Well definitely be going back to Perle for dinner, and putting it in our regular restaurant rotation.
Excellent Service and Great food. Owner is very Friendly and Nice. Staff is Great. Mushroom soup is to die for. Deviled egg is so tasty and flavorful with just a little hint of spicy. I loved my Waffle and Chicken. So moist and soft. A must to stop by and give thjs place a try.
We had an amazing time at Perle for our anniversary. The food was wonderful, the wine was splendid, the service was excellent. The Oysters Suprême were indeed. Were so glad to have this place in our neighborhood.
Yes! This is a wonderful addition to Montclair, and much needed. Loved the muscles, salad and delicious cocktails. The reason for 4 stars instead of 6 - the owner asked the couple next to us, who were still enjoying their drinks, to leave, as he had a "reservation " waiting. The couple taken by surprise got up with drink in hand and left. Yes, they had paid their bill.. but there is no excuse for this behavior.
We came during their soft opening on their first Saturday night. The restaurant filled up but the entire staff was professional and attentive, and so fun! We had the oysters supreme with foie gras, caviar, uni and black truffle, the avocado salad with stone fruit, the chicken roulade, the cauliflower, and the rum cake for dessert. The food was amazing, and the beverage program was even better! Go here. Srsly. Come to the neighborhood just for this.
