Bodestraße 1-3, 10178 Berlin, Germany, Buckow
Museum complex housing ancient Roman & Greek art collections, plus Babylonian & Persian antiquities.
this museum can be most important place in my life. i read a book about pergamon and decided to come. when i visited there, it was amazing and emotional for me. i could feel the whole story of the book in there. i cant believe but my dreams come true! thats why every monument is very important for me. altar of zeus wasnt open because of the restoration but i saw the door of milet, ishtar etc. it worths to coming there!
Cool museum to see the Babylonian era and also got to see a bit of the antique Greek history!
Amazing ancient temples & work of Islamic art. Visited on Sunday afternoon and it was quite crowded, early hours might be much more enjoyable to visit.
Definitely must visit museum in Berlin, the Islamic and Greek/Roman exhibition is amazing. The only minus is that you have to leave all your stuff in the lockers
A must see! This is a world class museum. If youre a student, make sure to ask for a discount 😉 Theres also a free museum night where you can come for free, but those nights are generally packed.
One of the best museums you can visit in Germany
Very informative museum. For 15€ I dont think the guided tour is worth it. The guide was nice and gave a lot of information but he just highlighted the main artifacts and we didnt visit all the halls. Also the eco within the museum isnt great so I couldnt understand part of the explanation.I would say its better to ask for an audio guide that would give many information as well and its free. The museum requires that backpacks are left in lockers, free of charge. You will need a coin (1€ or 2€to lock it and you can retrieve when you open it. If you dont have coins with you, go to the clockroom and ask for one. There are several toilets across the museum, free of charge.I would suggest to but tickets online to avoid queues.
It was smaller than I expected, but still there are huge collection if you are interested in ancient times
Amazing museum. You can spend hours slowly walking and admiring the exhibitions. Must see in Berlin . Recommend to buy combined ticket for all museums on Museum Island. Even if you visit 2 only its still good deal.
Impressive exhibition. I rate 1 star because of the heating. 20 degrés outside, how dare you waste energy! Have you heard about global warming! You will keep burning (bloody)Russian gas for nothing for how long?
If you are planning to visit all museums at the museum Island, its cheaper to buy the ticket that give you access to all of them, instead of individual tickets. The Pergamon is very interesting and you can spend a long time there if you are interested in all the details explained by the audio guide. There is also a restaurant/ coffee shop, lockers and bathroom inside the building
A lot of interesting ancient materials. Not only the main attraction, Babylon, is quite nice, but also other Ancient templesand materials are really enriching. Upstairs you can also find a lot about Ashtar, Islamic & Arabic culture which are very cool.
In the last six years I have been to the Pergamon museum three times. The museum is probably the best one of the Museum Island, and would definitely deserve a five star review. However, the renovation works have been going on since forever, with no end in sight. It is unbelievable that the main attraction of the Museum, the Pergamon Altar, the Hellenistic wing, the north wing and probably half of the Museum itself have not been accessible for years. The original renovation works should have lasted from 2014 to 2019, and now it seems that they have postponed the reopening to 2024 at the earliest. And, of course, the ticket prices have not been reduced at all.
Really nice museum. I just had trouble figuring out how to get in to it. You have to enter in another museum to get access. And there was no signs that indicated that outside.
Go see the ishtar gate at the museum! Part of the museum is closed for renovations till 2025 but you can still gain access to the rest of this magnificent museum to check out thier collections.
A lot of interesting ancient materials. Not only the main attraction, Babylon, is quite nice, but also other Ancient templesand materials are really enriching. Upstairs you can also find a lot of Arabic things which are very cool. 100% recommended. If you buy your tickets online, you avoid every single time of waiting 😊
A speciality museum which showcases some of the most important relics in human civilization. Ishtar gate is magnificent in all its glory. However bare in mind that some exhibits are just replicas with the actual artifact in other museums. Nevertheless a place worth visiting.
Magnificent masterpieces from ancient Babylon, which even far more better than the famous museums in London and New York. Highly recommend to visit here if you are in Berlin. The ticket is better to be bought in advance and to book an appointment time.
Stunning! Wow what can I say the hours went by and my jaw was difficult to pick up.A must see in Berlin. To think that they have places ancient walls and entrances inside a building in itself is a work of art.
A really nice museum in the museum island where you can find excavations from Greek and Arabic world. Highly recommend if you love visiting museums.
Must visit museum. Book in advance and give it atleast 2 hours time. There is so much to see
Worth a visit every time. Beautiful landscapes in original size, detailed and I formative. We spent 3 hours there still was not enough to Listen to every audio guide track. When you buy the tickets you get an audio guide for free so do not miss the opportunity to learn more.
Access the museums from simon gallery. A great cafe and shop is available. The Pergamon museum has a great collection including mosaic, sculptures, Islamic collections. Many families come with their hands on activities with their kids. You can take the audio guides. The museum is accessible.
1. The entrance is INSIDE the James Simon Gallery. This is not obvious; don’t follow Google Maps or the signage for the Pergamon too closely, as it’s confusing.2. But a ticket either in advance online or at the Pergamon Panorama (way less busy), or you’ll spend the first 30+ minutes queuing up for a ticket.
Best museum in Berlin, just frustrating a few things closed due to renovations and construction. Got same day tickets but had to wait 4 hours for my entry time, best to book in advance
Very good museum of antiquity. The art is amazing. Definitely worth a go!!!
Very enjoyable museum to visit. Not particularly large , so really only requires several hours to visit. Recommend online purchase of tickets ahead of time and selection of entry time to prevent waiting in lines. Advance purchase allows skipping the line and going straight to the entrance. The audio commentary (through headsetsis outstanding and significantly enhances the exhibits. The exhibits with commentary have an audio number and simply entering the number into your headset attachment starts the commentary. The individual programming allows progression through the museum at your own pace and not in a prescribed order. The reconstruction of the Ishtar gate and the Market gate is simply amazing. The visit is worth it only to see those two. Curators have done an amazing job reconstructing artifacts damaged by time and the war. Definitely recommend the visit.
Fascinating and beautiful, if you are into Mesopotamia or archeology in general, every room on the first floor will blow your mind 🤯, with nowhere else to be seen artifacts and the Indiana Jones style stories behind their discovery. Plan to spend two to three hours here. Do book ahead online (it’s easy and way better than waiting for an hour to get in), as the queue can grow to extreme lengths.
The Pergamon Museum is part of the multi museum site known colloquially as Museum Island. The gates or Ishta and the Roman period market gates are definate highlights. Unfortunately the actual Pergamon temple was not available for viewing due to reconstruction going on.
Excellent museum. Too many people though are allowed in and downstairs does not have air con, or at least it felt like it. With so many individuals, it is hard to see and appreciate the artifacts, let alone the noise they produce.
I was here 5 years ago and the altar was closed. I was here again and it’s still closed. Let’s check it in 5 years againPS: Zero Information about closed expositions on the web-site.
Neos pergamon is very interesting for Greek antiques. 3 hours needed, audio guide included in the ticket price I recommend to buy in advance on the museum official website.
A spectacular museum with incredible exhibits, although one section is currently closed as it is being set-up/maintained. It only loses a star as it is extremely busy, with wait times of over 3 hours when we visited. Highly recommended that you book an entry time slot online beforehand.
The museum is not large (compared with others in capitals of countriesbut the exhibition is amazing. Definitely worth a visit! Also the area around has lots of interesting sights, and there is Berlin Art Festival on Sunday, so it’s a great place to spend the weekend.
Fantastic museum with unbelievable large and small objects!
Must use Audioguide adds value to the experience and is also available in english. One can easily spend around 2.5 hours.
Magnificent museum for antique lovers. Make sure to book tickets in advance and save at least 2h for visor. Audio guide is available for free. During my visit in summer22 admission for Ukrainians was free 💙💛. However, Pergamon altar is not on display until 2024 as it undergoes renovation. Visit Das Panorama (walking distance from this museumto see its 3d reconstruction.
Beautiful museum!!! Just unfortunately not a place to be during a hot summer day. Inside the museum itself the temperature was so unbearable as there is no AC or any cooling system in the areas except for one... The heat, the crowd, doesnt give you that comfort to really enjoy the museum or get as much information as you could have. They should have limited the number of persons!
The museum is a must-see. It holds inside jewels that are thousands of years old and come from the most ancient civilizations in Syria, Iraq (Mesopotamia), Greece, and the Islamic world. Perhaps the most famous and important are the Ishtar Gate and the Pergamon altar. The building itself is very interesting as it was reconstructed by the British architect David Chipperfield.
To apreciate this museum you must and some history of its exhibits. Its been a long time since i visited it, but it will stay in my memory forever! But it would be more suitable to see this exhibits in their home countries!
A definite must-see when in Berlin. The descriptions of everything are in English and German. It was a bit disappointing that the Pergamon Altar was closed when we went, but we knew that in advance. It was well worth the ticket costs regardless. You could easily spend an entire day there, but we had tickets to other museums as well for the day, so we were only there for about 2.5 hours. I understand why it’s so controversial. It’s sad to know other cultures lost pieces of their history for these things to be here. However, it’s definitely worth the time and money to see such a well preserved collection of history from around the world, no matter your feelings on it. Such a cool place to learn about history of many different cultures!
Definitely worth visiting this museum. It is amazing what they were able to reconstruct inside of the building. It opens at 10 am, you can enter the building via a side door in the right side of the stairs. The audio is free, so make sure to pick it up. Also: try to get your ticket online since there are dedicated time slots for entering.
Incridible!!!!! What a nice place to go and learn more about the history of architecture. It is definetly a must go. If you by the Museum pass, you will have 3 days to visit many museuns in Berlin, which is very good to visit the Museum Islândia, where Perganom is located. Here you can ask for a Digital áudio guide and enjoy history and extra information that will open your eyes to places you have never thought about visiting before. You will see the biggest original structure in a museum and enjoy brilliant craftsmanship for tiles, potery, tapestry and many others. It is definetly a MUST GO.
Great pieces and exposition; I took around 2hrs to see everything. Its allowed take pictures.
To apreciate this museum you must and some history of its exhibits. Its been a long time since i visited it , but it will stay in my memory forever! But it would be more suitable to see this exhibits in their home-countrys!
Magnificient ancient Babylon, Uruk, Assur, Miletus, Priene and ancient Egypt objects and, of course, Pergamon altar and Ishtar gate. The collection expanded with the excavations in Olympia, Samos, Pergamon, Miletus, Priene, Magnesia, Cyprus and Didyma. Its strange that none of these civilizations has a connection with Germany, but they were able to collect and preserve all of these precious collections even through wartime.
Awesome museum! Biblically significant exhibit with the reconstructed Ishtar Gate, originally built by Nebuchadnezzar II of the Babylon Kingdom... Much of the stores appearing in the Book of Daniel! The starkly deep blue and the really tall construction were really beautiful and grandeur. One can imagine the fear and awe that must have brought on to the visitors from the apparent power of the kingdom. This brings a different perspective of how great Daniels success was i/n the Kingdom as an Israelite. One of several must-see place in Berlin!
Pergamon Museum is one of the 5 museums located on what is called Museums Island in the heart of Berlin. Pergamon covers the antiquities from the ancient Egyptians to Assyrians, Geek, and Roman periods. Here, you will happen upon full reconstruction of Architectural Monuments. In this review I will cover the ISHTAR GATE.The gate was constructed around 575 BC as part of a processional way, in the inner city of Babylon, in Iraq today. In 1904 a German archeological team excavated the gate and smuggled it from Iraq as the Ottoman authorities, who were occupying the country at the time, turned a blind eye.Today, Ishtar Gate is one of jewels in Pergamon Museum with its glazed colorful bricks that still retain their original colors after almost 3000 years.Admission to Pergamon Museum: 12€ (Reduced: 6€)Due to constant renovation works and Coronavirus restriction some halls in the Pergamon might be closed.
Incredible museum. Everything is described interestingly and there are multiple guided tours. The layout is well thought out. Its just astonishing to look at the massive ishtar wall or walking through an entire ancient building from mesopotamia… The focus of the main exhibition is on early high civilizations in the regions of mesopotamia, there is also a very beautiful exhibit of islamic art in the upper floor.
A museum visit which will live long in my memory. Displays from Ancient Babylon and Assyria, deconstructed and moved to Berlin brick by brick, simply amazing viewing them knowing the history behind them and relating them to the stories from the Old Testament. This is certainly a must visit to a museum which was hidden for so long behind the Berlin Wall.
