Enduring museum showcasing the culture & natural history of Malaysia in an 1833 art deco building.
Perak Museum in Taiping
Description
Privilege
Surprised that they exhibits a lot of historical and nature. Worth to visit and prepare to spend at least an hour there
MoreSmall but decent museum. The architecture of the building itself is worth seeing. The exhibitions cover the brief history of Taiping, culture of different ethnic groups in Malaysia, and animal specimens. A museum for old and young alike.
MoreI had visited this oldest museum in Malaysia many times and really intrigued with this natural museum section. Imagine how many wildlife were killed inorder to preserve for future generations. Hope future generations would appreciate these exhibits.
MoreMuch diferent from past.More organise and clean..Visitor need to note sunday is closed .
MoreWorth to pay a visit although the content is more or less similar to other muziums in Malaysia. The special part is the section with all animal skeletons, its great to view animals from different perspective.
MoreBest experience..u will know more about taiping when visited this place..only RM 2 for adult and free entry for kid
MoreNot so small muzium. Entry fee is RM2 per person. Nice artefacts, animals section, with traditional clothes, musical instruments and such. Behind the muzium there’s old rolls royce car used in colonial era. The toilet somewhat far at the back. Parking is ample.
MoreNatural history : great collection of stuffed mammals and birds skeletons of elephant, horse, phython,Croc 24 etc. Taiping ancient and relatively new historical artifacts
MoreFor such a low low price, it is well maintained and has a good range of topics and artifacts of interest. Easy to park.Upstairs is not accessible to wheelchair users though, otherwise I would give 5 star.
MoreWell organised and very affordable enterance fees
RM2 per entry, well maintain museum and great visit in taiping.
Its always a good idea to visit the local museum when its your first time visiting the town. You will learn the history of the background and development of the place. Very informative.
MoreWorth the visit if u have no where else to go. Not many artifacts on display. Natural museum is a bit unkept, the stuffed animals were degrading. The pieces outside needs some TLC, painting & refinishing. Entrance ticket is quite cheap but not much other attraction.
MoreVery cheap entry with many informative display. Spacious, air conditioned and clean. Can spend a good hour (or more learning. Love the animal display. I didnt expect a high standard for a small town like this. Hope more people will make it a point to visit so they can keep this going.Theres some antique cars and boat display outside. Theres a small childrens playground that seemed decent (apart from the broken swing)No full stars rating because there was a childrens corner but nothing was there. And there wasnt any soap in the ladies toilet. The toilet also has be flushed "creatively ". I dont know why this seem to be a common thing with Malaysian spots.Adult : RM2Child : FREE
MoreWonderful museum, and that its government run, the curator must be a champ.
A good visit to learn more of Taiping & Malaysias customs, traditions & history. Very well maintained.
MoreVery well maintained museum. RM 2 admission fee to get inside but there are also vehicles outside so be sure to not miss them. Plenty of items on display with detailed descriptions and information on them.
MoreKids enjoyed to the max. especially all the Malaysia cultures. Animal bones and many more. Good place to visit beside Taiping was very nice place to relax.
MoreIts a good experience so that our young generation eill not forgot our origin like how songket is made, how big is animal bone and so on.
MoreBring kids to visit. They will learn alot.
The state of Perak has several museums, including one just outside of the Old Town of Taiping. Apparently it was the first Museum established in the whole of Malaysia, dating back to the 19th century.Outside there’s a random assortment of historical bits and bobs from dugout canoes to an old railway carriage and coolest of all a F-86 Sabre formerly in service with the Royal Malaysian Air Force. The Avon Sabre RMAF F-86 Jet is an Australian-made single seat fighter-bomber, displayed at Perak Museum in Taiping was donated to the RMAF in 1969. In 1969 Australia announced that in was to donate 18 refurbished ex-RAAF Sabre jets to MalaysiaInside there’s a small but well done natural history section, complete with skeletons of a tiger and an Asian elephant. It covers a lot of the native animals of the region with skeletons or stuffed specimens in a kid friendly way. To the rear of that is a section on the people of Perak and their traditions. The museum is located about a kilometre from the centre of town on the Jalan Taming Sari, opposite of Taiping prison.
MoreMany interesting things to learn about Perak and Taiping. Actually, our grab driver learned us more about Taiping.
MoreSmall museum but quite informative. Bilingual Malay and English displays. A wide range of wildlife, cultural and historical displays. 1 hour is enough to enjoy this museum across the street from Taiping Jail.
MoreCan spend some time visiting this museum😊Simple and not crowded. Ticket prices can refer photo below.
MoreThe best place to see the heritage and the history of Perak specifically Taiping and the Malaysian culture👍🏼🔥
MoreBeyond expectations! Really worth to visit with just Rm2 entrance fees that you can learn alot of Taiping history, animals bone and specimen etc...

Nice place to visit to improve your general knowledge. Enterance fee for adult is RM2 only. Children are free to enter.
MoreA very good museum. Its not only provide the history information of Perak, but also provide the local establishments, tribes, and nature.
MoreNice place to get information about Taiping. A good place to bring child expecially to get them known about animals in Malaysia.
MoreWith RM2 for adult & FOC for kids, we enjoy learn about Taiping, animals, orang asli, culture ... Must go place at Taiping
MoreA must visit place when coming to taiping. Good for children to spend their time, read the history and gain information at hand. Easily accessible and has plenty of parking. There is entrance ticket at a reasonable price.
MoreI was looking for more history on the first car in Malaya and i thought that the Taiping History Restropective 6-month display would have some visual clues. The Kinta Valley, of which Taiping (or Klian Pauhits old name is the heart of the richest tin producing region in the world in the late 19th century. The first motorcars in Malaya would surely have been imported by the rulers and tin mining tycoons of Kinta Valley in those days (1874 onwards). The display which runs till June 2022 however provided many insights on the development of governance in todays Malaysia, including Malayas first goal (jailand the first Malayan register of criminal offenders under the English Penal Code. Many hakka and cantonese fighters from the Ghee Hin and Hai San triads are on this prison register.
MoreFor Rm2 you can learn about Taiping in one day but you need to read .. read a lot of reading .. from Mesopotamia to British history also available . Animal section also include and aquatic version . Very recommend if you like history tho ..
MoreWonderful! So glad i discovered this. Wish it has more to see as the curation and displays were super good! Ample parking and a very very beautiful toilet amenities.
MoreLimited parking. Make sure to come early.Tickets RM 2 for adults. Overall, it is nice place and so much information there. Well maintained museum. Our first time in Taiping too.
MoreMy 1st experience visiting at this museum ever. I was here in Taiping for working purpose and bring my kids along as it was school break at that time. I would love them having useful information as additional input and surprisingly they loved it. We learned a lot about Peraks history and culture. We will definitely come again for more excitement.
MoreGood museum with a lot of exhibit & very well maintained condition. Must visit in Taiping.
MoreBest in Perak. Good for learning the history and perakians culture .Entrance fees cheap and air condition.
MoreNew experience for my 3 kids. We had fun and enjoying the day at the Museum 👍👍👍
MoreIt is very good for children to learn about the history of Perak, a lot of knowledge and equipment that has been swallowed up by time, can be learned and recognize old equipment that is no longer used in this millennium.
MoreWorth to visit. Entrance fee is only RM2 per adult. Kids are free to enter. Its inside a beautiful and well preserved old building.
Moreupdates to previous review. new exhibition in the house. go visit while it lasts for a month period. root and origin of the taiping world heritage
MoreThis building was build by British 100 years ago as a museum for Taiping, still standing with awesome artifact
MoreDespite being the oldest museum in Peninsular Malaysia, it has been maintained pretty well hence doesn’t look the least bit run down.It holds a mixed bag of historical and archaeological gems with even remains of animals and artefacts. In our very honest opinion, the collection of old cars especially the Rolls Royce was the highlight of the visit especially for car enthusiasts. Other than that, it was really nothing much. The building however, is worth a couple of photos and selfies! We’ll leave you to be the judge of it!Our full review is on instagram (@monk3yseendo)
MoreA good and diverse collection of Malaysian various culture, some nature animals artifact. Lively vibe and well kept museum in a beautiful building, built by Sir Hugh Low. The first museum in Malaysia.
MoreA very educational stop in our excursion! The immaculately maintained historical building houses many items of great curiosity! The attractions outside were just as interesting as the ones indoors! The second floor with orang asli were extremely educational.
MoreEntrance fee for non Malaysian is RM5.Was not a good decision to walk to this place from town as there are no proper path on the side of the roads. If you have to walk please be careful. Was a ok place to spend around 1-2 hrs.Exhibits are fairly interesting. Good for a few photos as well
MoreGreat collection of vintage cars and old British day buses. Good collection not kitchen utensils and music instruments. Good maintenance by the staff. Can have a quick visit if you are in Tailing and finish it off in 30 mins
MoreThe Museum is well maintained , entry fees were cheap , lots to see , they have intresting unique things related to British colonies. You will enjoy it definitely. Next to the Museum there is old prison .
