Pepa Tomate - Catalonian restaurant in Barcelona, Spain
At first I thought this was just another chain restaurant and the food was going to be mediocre. Boy was I wrong. Whoever created this menu knows how to make fresh ingredients and the simplicity of their flavors shine. I kind of wish I hadnt gone alone because I would have eaten way more then 4 tapas (which was a lot for 1, the portions are copious). And the staff was lovely, I had good laughs with my waitress.
Overpriced for the amount of food on the plate and the staff, especially at the bar, are tired and fed up. Not a great combination.
Lovely location in square in gracia.Food is tasty and interesting recipes.Bravas are insane!!!
Insanely rude staff . Never coming here again. Crema catalana was served cold and not made properly and we were blamed for ordering late. Genuinely horrific experience
Food was below average. The Catalan bestsellers were not available - kinda understandable, but if you’re “Catalan restaurant”, you should have Catalan food all the time. Beer was hot, champions were too oily and Parmesan didn’t taste like Parmesan. The portions were very small compared with the price (it was more like tapas than a dinner). Nice staff, but only because we were close to the bar. TOURIST SCAM.
Delicious lunch. Great sitting outside while kids can play on the square and little playground
Local food and a little mondern. Not cheap. Good. Patatas bravas are a must.
Very good service and tasty tapas
Friendly service and really tasty dishes. A place to go again when I am in Barcelona another time 👍
Food was good and the restaurant was Nice and had a good feeling to it. The iberian ham was very good and bravas was good But a bit too much sauce. Service was Nice but they had some trouble knowing which dish that was mine. All and all a good dinner with resonable prices.
Ridiculously underrated. Definitely one of the best places to eat in the area.
Ridiculously underrated. Stumbled in here for lunch yesterday and wouldn’t have if I looked at the current reviews. Food was all delicious, top notch tapas. Calamari, croquetas, bravas etc all excellent. I have to rethink the usefulness of google ratings now if they can be this wrong.
Had to leave a review because this place deserves a much higher rating! Everything we ordered was delicious - special shout out to the super flavourful olives and the patatas bravas which came with a huge mountain of caramelized onions on topService was totally fine, location in the plaza is lovely. A very pleasant surprise!
Absolutely excellent Spinach frittatas and their own batatas. For a decent price too.
Meat sandwich, Andalusia style kalamari and crockets were so delicious
Great place, great food. I RECOMMEND!!Classic Catalan flavors, very tasty, great served by great staff.
I had an amazing meal. The bartender was clutch with all the recommendations. He suggested the right combinations. Even whipped up a perfect Negroni to start the meal. I loved the croquettes, spinach, pecana and pork cheek Tapas. One of my favorite meals in Barça so far.
I came here several times and the food is good but depends on the dish. My favorite is the vegetarian arroz dish and the service was exceptional this day. It seems the service depends on the staff who are there but I can see they are trying to improve their service and customer experience compared to the very first time we went.
Their spinach fritters with honey and garlic sauce/marinade were probably one among the best tapas I’ve had in Barcelona. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Barcelona and open to trying different tapas
Charming restaurant, only marred by an unnecessarily rude staff member.
We had a really nice time here. The food was great. And the experience was even better because of the attention and the competence of the waitress Alessia.
This place has really gone downhill. 10 years ago it was excellent. We ordered chicken with langostines, aubergine with goats cheese and fried tomatoes. The last dish was acceptable, the other two were watery, bland and tiny portions. We were told off several times for ordering more drinks (after our mealwhen they wanted to clear the table for others to eat. The food was very overpriced and we all left hungry. We wont be returning again in a hurry. The two waitresses were nice though.
Interesting gazpacho and potatas bravas. Simple food, nice location with outdoor area. Good for a coffee or a clara
Its a good restaurant to go and eat a little bit of everything. Very good quality food, nice service. I recommend the fried tomato and the salmon.
If you sit outside on the Plaça you need to order min 3 tapas for lunch or dinner. The food was so so - we had the salman tataki, aubergine and goats cheese and bravas
Staff are very pleasant, attentive and helpful. Ive only been twice, but enjoyed the food very much both times.
This place in the charming neighbourhood of Gràcia, Barcelona, was recommended to me by a local friend as one of the best places for Catalan cuisine. So, when I arrived I was happy to wait in the bar with a Black Martini until the outside tables were set for dinner... Great service, great food and wine, including possibly the BEST spinach fitters I have ever tasted! The waiter recommended that just 2 tapas would be sufficient for a meal but I wanted to try more, so went for the Gazpacho, Jamon croquettes, and the Spinach Fritters (mentionedwith Honey-laced Aioli... Though they regularly change their menu, apparently locals dont let them take the Spinach Fritters off the menu and I understand why! I would go back here on my next visit to Barcelona to try more of the menu!
When asked if we would be eating or drinking, we said we would only be there for 20 minutes for a drink and a snack. Our Spanish is not perfect, so we used the word snack instead of tapas. The man was extremely rude about the fact we used the word “snack”, and said “we don’t sell snacks, we sell tapas, we are a restaurant” in a very rude and passive aggressive way. This was strange to me, because snacks is the same as tapas in other languages. Someone working in Barcelona should be more forgiving for language differences, especially because he understood the rest of our Spanish. After this, he tossed the menu towards us and walked away. We decided to leave and told him we found him a bit rude, and that was why we were leaving. He said “ok”, shrugged, and walked away. This was a really strange experience that made us feel really uncomfortable. But I’m glad that I didn’t give any of my money towards this place.
Delicious food and great ambiance. The overall portion is decent and some dishes are actually quite large. My only complaint is that most dishes are fried so the taste can get a bit redundant.
The spinach fritters here were to die for. The eggplant was good but not sure Id order again. There were so many things on the menu that sounded delicious that I can see myself returning many times to taste through them. But I definitely want the fritters again 😋
We visited the sant antoni restaurant on Friday evening with our mum who was visiting from the UK. Wnderful meal in one of the cool, red booths and the food was divine. Highly recommend the courgette salad - Incredible flavour and so refreshing. The ribs were also delicious and the staff were on the whole very friendly!
Yummy food and a cool place ...theyve even used a"fuse ball" football table as one of the tables in the sant antoni restaurant. Would recommend the ribs with the refreshing chick pea salad. the meat was so incredible and fell off the bone!
The food is awesome. Not sure why some people rated bad food, maybe they had another chef in the past, Ive been there 2 times and i was delighted. The price is OK. Not for cheap people, only for those who understand good food, good location (heart of gracia, terracedand definitely a great service.
Beautiful terrace seating and great food! The atmosphere is perfect for some casual drinks with friends or a long cozy dinner. I absolutely loved the asparagus with stracciatella and gazpacho. And the beef ribs was also incredible. The tiramisu for dessert is a must! Naturally, this all pairs well with a bit of cava or an aperol spritz. Great evening!
Amazing food and beautiful atmosphere. The food is mainly tapas with a great touch and good portions. Recommended!
Located in Gracia. Nice interior, varied menu, and friendly staff. Terrace is perfect for summer. Beers and some food to pass the day away. Prices are typical of the area so dont worry too much. Worth a visit
A great and innovative meal. Alessandro and his staff served us one of the better meals we had in a month travelling in Spain. Seems very popular with the Barcelonas hipsters.
I sat indoors, late Sunday evening. They have outdoor seating but generally occupied and didnt see a point waiting. They have a good variety of tapas. Tried all time great patata bravas (really good), some fish and pork snout (fried). The latter were good, the pork snout however had some hair sticking out of some pieces that kind of turned yucky and killed appetite towards the end. The dish is new, so it may be customary to not clean the hair completely, but it isnt meant for me.
Loveeeee the Spanish dishes they offer and the atmosphere. The place is usually crowded and needs reservation but definitely worth it. I sat on the bar and the waitress was very friendly.Tip: they have the best tiramisu I have ever tasted - el mejor :)
Absolutely amazing food, and a lovely house wine. Totally recommend the spinach dumplings, you will not regret it!!
Everything was delicious. Multilingual staff and menus for those that dont Catalon
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Modern place with traditional food given a spark of modernism, all prepared with great products and taste that end up being very nice! For 2 people we had 3 starters and 1 main dish to share. 40€ seemed reasonably cheap to us. I recommend to book in advance.
Nice food having classics reinvented with some nice touches. Service is helpful and attentive and nice decor and ambience in the city old quarter
Walking distance from Mallorca. Book a table in advance. Its a popular place. Food is really good too. They have a decent wine and liquor collection.. pricing is also reasonable.
Food is fun and delicious. Host manners are mediocre but waiters were kind. You dont get to eat a lot unless you order many dishes: dont go if you are starving unless you dont mind a big check
Wandering around Barcelona looking for a table at peak time, and stumbled across this gem. Felt like a Michelin star style restaurant - every one of us said that it was one of the best Tapas meals wed eaten. Couldnt recommend more.
Really poor experience. The staff very extremely rude and unprofessional. We called to book a table and a second time to confirm it. Apparently our original booking had never been registered so we made a new reservation under the same name and number. When we arrived at the restaurant the staff who greeted us claimed that we didnt have a reservation and then proceeded to make a fuss about it. We were eventually seated and then completely ignores for over 20 minutes. We left as a result.
If you have to wait, wait. Its expensive but it is worthy.
After being spoiled with good food in Spain, this place was a let down. The house wine was oxidized. Cockles were flavourless, the bread was dry and toasted (unlike the fresh bread the locals serveand the tacos were...well almost non existent. In fact all portion sizes were so tiny that it felt more like a tasting menu, rather than tapas. But we had run out of the will to order any more and left hungry. I was also not happy with the service, where they made us wait for 10 minutes while they had SEVERAL tables empty. Not sure what that was about. There are better places to eat in Barcelona. One does not have to try this place at all.
Quality of the food is quite good, and the servers are friendly enough. I give two stars because the last few times Ive gone the kitchen has been unable to bring everyones meals at around the same time. This past Thursday I went for lunch with two friends and we were seated quite promptly, despite the crowds. The server was also quite attentive and made sure we had drinks and that our food order went to the kitchen. So far, so good--as with my other experiences. About five minutes later, my two friends received their meals. I continued to wait, as did they. After 6-7 minutes, I told my companions to begin their meals, as fried eggs are lousy cold. Finally my dish arrived, about 15 minutes after my friends. So essentially we got to watch each other eat lunch. Tldr: good quality food, friendly servers, kitchen a hot disorganized mess.
