Ive enjoyed the Penrose Room six times by myself, with my partner, or with work colleagues. In some ways I most enjoy my time at PR by myself, because its just about me and the food. It is an amazing meal, perfect in every way. It has a high price tag, but a bargain when compared to other 5-diamond restaurants in the US. My advice is that you get to the Penrose Room before they start charging for what the meals really worth.

Of the 5 Star restaurants in America (there are only 30this is the best. For those who do not know, most states do not have a 5 star restaurant. Texas and Colorado only have one each. The food, atmosphere, menu and attention to detail are perfect. A great place to celebrate an anniversary or a special occasion. It does not get any better than this! If you are staying at the Broadmoor this is a must. You need to book reservations a month or more in advance (all 5 star restaurants have very limited seating).

We spent New Years Eve at the Broadmoor and chose to eat at the Penrose room. We occasionally like to try very high end and sometimes Michelin star restaurants. The food and service was fine but arguably way overpriced($700). The reason for the one star though was the behavior of the Manager/Maitre D. An extremely attractive couple had entered the restaurant and he couldnt stop ogling at her. At one point he stopped in front of our table and stood and stared at her over us. Then even made a lewd gesture about her to the bartender when he didnt think anyone could see him. Unfortunately our table had a clear view of the servers area of the bar and we saw it.. Having spent a good portion of my career in the Hospitality industry this is unacceptable and made me furious. I tried to catch him on the way out but he was nowhere to be found and I didnt really want spoil our New Years Eve so we left. We will not be back.

My partner and I and another couple had a special evening at Penrose this week. Fantastic experience. We chose the 3 course offering which was plenty of food. I enjoyed the cod after a creative lobster salad. My partner had a great steak and salad. The service was outstanding and wine list was huge but offered several price choices. Bring your wallet but sit back and enjoy a great meal.

I don’t get it. For $640 for two people I expected to have one of the better dining experiences of my life. This was definitely not the case. Did they pay off the guy giving the Forbes five star awards? There wasn’t a single course that wowed me or that I even really enjoyed. I should’ve known that I was in for a lackluster time when the amuse bouche was chicken stock. It didn’t get better from there. The wine pairings weren’t very complimentary to the food and the food itself was not good. The coup de grace was the beef tenderloin which was served as the main course. I couldn’t believe how chewy and sinewy the meat was. I wouldn’t have been happy to pay $100 for my meal let alone $640. We were chatting with another couple who had previously dined there. They went so far as to apologize for the poor quality of food saying it was usually much better. Maybe we had an off night but i wouldn’t recommend anyone spend the time or money here.

We had to wait 25 minutes for a table, dropped $800 on food and wine, wine was great, food was just not great. Especially for the price. Dining room was almost completely empty on a Friday night. Easy to tell why. But we still had to wait 25 mins for a table at an empty restaurant. We really should have refused to pay for the food considering price. Highly recommend hotel. Cannot express how much you should find somewhere else to dine, though. Loved the live jazz!

If you truly want an amazing dining experience you must go to the Penrose. It is Colorado French, which means great dishes and sauces without being pretentious. Service is impeccable. With the course meal, wine and tip, plan on $200 a piece.

Put this on your list!!!Amazing dinner here the other night. Josh the resturant manager was incredibly accommodating even though we asked to change our reservation at the last minute. The Sommelier (Evan? Eric?was amazing as well. Excellent knowledge of his wines and how to read his customers. We had a blast talking to him. Overall the service here is perfectly executed. We did the 3 course because the 5 course tasting menu wasn’t as exciting to us.Appetizer course we had the gnocchi (amazing!!!), the mixed seafood app, and the diver scallop. All were excellent. For the mains we had the duck, king crab and halibut. All again excellent. The only thing I didn’t like was the halibut cheek that was added by the chef at the last minute. It was poached and had gotten a little rubbery but frankly it didn’t matter because the halibut filet was perfectly cooked. My son and husband said the king crab was the best that they have ever eaten. The desserts was also excellent although the balsamic strawberries was the best dessert. The live music was at a perfect level and the singer has a perfect voice for that kind of venue.Go early enough to enjoy the 180 degree view.

Overpriced, overstaffed, overstated. Unless youre wealthy or trying to make a good impression, avoid this place. Theres a dress code and someone at the door to keep out the riffraff. The food is decent, but the portions are tiny. Expect to pay extra for side salads, drinks, sides or anything that might normally come with a full meal. The staff is friendly and helpful, but thats because they only have one job. Theres a water guy, a bartender, a host or hostess, a waiter, a server and a silverware attendant. Not including valet parking. Expect to tip them all because thats what they expect. The food portions were so small we ended up getting McDonalds on the way home. $150+ for two small plates with no sides, no dessert. There are better places to go than here. Dont waste your money.

Very very sad about my experience for Sunday brunch in the penrose room. We were staying at the broadmoor for the weekend and decided to do the Sunday brunch as our last event. We had reservations at 2pm for four people. The day before I called and asked if they could add one person to the reservation. They had said they were too booked and couldn’t fit one more person in. When we got there there were so many open tables and could have easily fit one more at our table. The experience from there just kept getting worse. We asked the waitress when we sat down what time the brunch ended and she said it doesn’t end until people leave. We took that as take your time and enjoy the buffet. This was not the case. The food was pretty good except the eggs Benedict, which happens to be my favorite. When I went to the station the server asked if I wanted harder or softer eggs. I said harder and when she put the egg on my plate it immediately broke and not just the yoke the whites too. It was disgusting and I ended up not eating the whole plate. The rest of the food was pretty good until dessert. It came about 3pm and they started to take down the food, which was very confusing to us because the waitress made it seem like we had as much time as we like and that was not the case. We barely tried dessert before they cleaned it all up and some of the dessert was already cleaned up. The bananas foster was already put away which happens to also be my favorite. Since the food was all put away we felt like we were being rushed out and quickly left. It was a very sad experience and have had way better brunch buffets for a way better price. Hopefully the broadmoor ups it game:(

Wonderful dinner and accompanying wines. The sommelier worked diligently to pair wines with our appetizer and main course selections. The seared scallop appetizer was wonderfully prepared and delicious, as were both mains, rib eye and lobster. While we were less pleased with a pork foie gras appetizer which had surprisingly little flavor, the staff promptly replaced it with another appetizer without our having asked. The entire meal, the live entertainment, the attentive and pleasant staff, the atmosphere, and the beautiful view combined to make our evening a great memory, as one would expect from the finest restaurant at Colorados finest resort hotel.

My wife and I visited this place while spending a weekend at the Broadmoor. This is hands-down the best fine-dine restaurant I have ever been to. The quality of service, food, and everything that you get is so on-par with the price that they charge. We never felt ripped-off (because you seriously cannotwhen you receive the check. I went for my 25th birthday just last night, I wore an evening gown, while my date wore a suit (As is the dress code). Tell me why no one else is in the "required" dress code? I saw women in there in plain clothes. The ONLY reason I chose The Penrose Room, was because of that dresscode. I felt stupid dressing so extravagantly. I had the 3 course dinner, it wasnt worth the 90$ I dropped on it, I felt I was paying more for the service and not so much the food. Which doesnt make the most sense, since they tack on an additional 20% service charge (While thats fine....), The food just was not....that great. My desserts were phenomenal...Baba au Rhum.

I took my mother there for her 85th birthday. It was an excellent choice for her special day. The staff went out of their way for us, and the service was superb!! The food was excellent, presented beautifully, and was served exactly on time. The three piece band was nice, but a little loud. The artwork looked out of place, but the restaurant was decorated very nice overall. I highly recommend the Penrose Room!!!

From a bygone era, a tacky imitation of fine dining. Those under the age of 50 are unlikely to feel welcome. Atmosphere & ambience were terrible, we walked out before our pre dinner cocktails were finished.Gentlemen must wear a jacket, which they can provide, and it must remain on whilst seated. Very passé, almost as if they are playing at being a serious restaurant. The Penrose Room is almost as if the brain child went for a decent meal some time in the early 70’s and attempted to copy the experience. For some reason they had decided to paint what I would guess were supposed to be curtains on a wall. Pretty much in the style of an Olive Garden but with a different price tag. The robotic, cold and arrogant wait staff made the place unbearable. If you’re prepared to spend that amount of money on dinner chose a place with a couple of Michelin stars or one from the San Pellegrino list.

This restaurant is overrated. The decor is old and tired and looks like it hasnt been changed since the restaurant opened 100 years ago. The service is excellent, but for the money (they automatically add 20% gratuityand attire requirements, the food should equal the service. Sadly, it was just okay. It seems as though this place continues to receive the AAA five diamond rating just because it always has, not because it deserves it. Restaurants can lose stars in the Michelin rating system if they become too complacent. The same should apply to the AAA system. In the end, if you have enough money to splurge and dont have many chances to eat at this type of restaurant, Id say go ahead just for the experience. But if you know what fine dining really should be like, dont waste your money.

This place definitely takes you back in time and makes you feel out of place if you’re under 45. We did the chef tasting which was extraordinary and un-extraordinary at the same time. The thinly sliced radish and green paste was omnipresent throughout the tasting which didn’t allow for creativity or spontaneity. The only inspired dish was the amuse-bouche( mouth amuserand the truffle corn chowder which lacked the for mention of green paste and thinly sliced radish. The menu overall reeked of no creativity or was hamstrung by food cost. Expecting more of a chef of his pedigree. The Penrose Room needs to elevate itself beyond the country club retiree community that surrounds itself if it wishes to continue to call itself the best fine dining restaurant in Colorado.

3 course meal with four "pallet cleansers", if you didnt get enough and want more food, you may want to go to a country buffet instead. The food was great. My husband took me here for Valentines Day. I have never had a fine dining experience and after this, I must admit, I can never go back to a normal restaurant experience. The staff was incredibly attentive, informative, and generous. My water was never more than 1/4 gone before a kind gentleman came and filled the cup back up. Another waiter was pleasantly outgoing, and good naturally kept bringing my husband bread because he had mentioned how much he enjoyed bread with his meals. If I left my chair for a moment, I would return to find a fresh napkin folded neatly on the arm, and a waiter or waitress would suddenly appear to pull my chair back for me. I even witnessed waiters coming out of the kitchen with our food, and stop when they noticed my husband wasnt there. They disappeared into the kitchen and returned with our warm food seconds after his return. The bar made the best mixed drinks I have ever had. Watch out, though! The bartender knows what he is doing; he made our drinks taste mild and easy, but they still give you a nice hit! I asked to him to show me his skills and make me something off the top of his head. He smiled and created me something delicious, and I had to stop myself from drinking it too fast! The food was outstanding. I understand that people can be upset that they are such small portions, but the meal is five courses, in addition to the mini appetizers that are brought before EACH course. The style and flavors indicate that this was made by an educated and seasoned chef. I know how much it can take to make taste buds sing, while showcasing food as an art. It was done brilliantly. It did not matter how full I was towards the end, my taste buds enjoyed every bite of food, right until the very end.The environment was beautiful. It was perfectly lit and the live jazz music was the perfect background music. There is a dance floor, and couples comfortably and causally danced throughout the night. This was an outstanding night; a night worth remembering.

Visited the Penrose Room for a romantic staycation with my fiancé and it did not disappoint! Plus, the Broadmoor is a beautiful property to just enjoy - even if you just want to drop in for a drink. We opted to do the multi course tasting menu because we like trying a little bit of everything and because we are gluttonous, we decided to add the wine pairing. Each course was thoughtfully prepared from unique flavor combinations to creative presentations. I was surprised (and impressedhow the chef was able to elevate common ingredients like venison and how the sommelier incorporated wines that arent common and paired them in unexpected ways.Service was stellar throughout our meal, it was very clear that the staff in the front and back of the house communicate regularly about the food and drink so that they can communicate those details to guests. At the end of the meal, we asked to meet the chef and sommelier to give our compliments. Both were very nice and appreciative of the feedback. For a special occasion or celebration, Penrose Room is certainly worth the price tag and I cannot wait to return!

Went here in March for my birthday and it was absolutely an amazing experience! Very expensive. ..so worth it. The entire experience. ..the staff was attentive but VERY fun snd non-stuffy. Every bite of food was fabulous! The staff even did a little parade around the tables when serving the food-so impressive! It was a Wow evening! Went last week over Christmas and we thought we were in a completely different restaurant! Staff was very stiff and, although attentive and nice, just very serious and not fun! Food was so weird and not tasty. 5 of us shared each others items, and none of us was impressed. The first time, I couldnt wait to go back; now I have no desire to ever go back again. Inconsistency for such an expensive place (almost $800 for 5 of usmakes me not want to risk it again.

This is, by far, the best restaurant I’ve ever had the pleasure of dining at. The customer service is beyond outstanding. When you are seated, your wait staff already knows your name and they address you by your name the rest of the evening. Every time something is put on the table, it is explained to you with a courteous attitude. The food tastes amazing and there is a great attention to detail when presenting food to you. Everything here is a “show” for the customer. I feel like dining here was worth every single penny.

First let me say, the staff and atmosphere of the restaurant was great! Polite, attentive, and made sure we were comfortable. Knowing this is the top rated restaurant in the city, 5 star and 5 diamond awards, is based on ambiance and service. The food... sad to say, a disappointment. Ive tried other Broadmoor restaurants and have loved the Tavern and especially Ristorante Del Lago, and flavor was no disappointment especially at Del Lago... but Penrose Room lacked that one thing in the food it desperately needs...FLAVOR! Some parts of the meal were ok, the palate cleansers were pretty good, but literally the only part of the meal that I was actually surprised on and enjoyed, was the desert. I got the chocolate themed dessert, that was pretty good. Sad to say the service isnt what we would ever return for, if the food was where it needed to be, then more than likely Id be more than happy to come back, but it wasnt, and I wont. For a $300 bill I expected much more than just mediocre food. I can only imagine why this would explain why there was only a few tables in the restaurant on a Friday night instead of being packed with guests.I had saved money to take my fiance here for her birthday expecting to be wowed rather than walking away feeling disappointed and as if my money was wasted...

The Penrose Room is the best in town for truly special, memorable occasions. Food and service are exemplary, although it would be nice to have more variety in the meal selections and not be so limited with the prix fixe menus. My boyfriend and I had been wanting to go here for a while and finally made time to do it. We went all out and ordered the Chefs Tasting Menu with Sommelier Wine Selection (218.00 per person). Now I have to say the staff was great. They were extremely kind and attentive and I have only good things to say about them. The entertainment was also wonderful and the restaurant itself was very nice. But the food was definitely not worth what we spend. Our bill came out to be just shy of $700 and it was not worth even close to that. The portions were so tiny that I almost thought it was a joke. Each of the courses consisted of about an 1/8th cup of meat and a very small amount of veggies. I was shocked that there was never any sides to go with each course. Im sad to say but even after the 7 courses I was left still hungry and wanted to get food on the way home. They wine was good but since it only took a couple of sips to finish each glass they poured, we were left disappointed. In the end I guess we paid more for the experience than the actual food/wine. Its nice to have been there but we will definitely not be coming back. Such a disappointment since we were so excited to go in the first place. So if you are thinking of going here, know that you realistically get about $30 worth of food and $600 worth of entertainment and ambiance.

The staff, the band, and the ambiance are stellar. Unfortunately, the food is rather bland, the presentation is lacking, the portions are tiny, and the prices are absolutely unwarranted. The stock three and four course dinner options were unexciting and the most interesting menu items cost extra on top of the already $100 or so per person price ticket.I have had much better foie gras torchon ($ 20 extrahome made and even I make better duck prosciutto. The single ladlefull of truffle fettuccine, that cost $ 65 extra, looked like it was plopped on to a plate at a soup kitchen. The fettuccine allegedly contained 10 grams of truffle but I honestly do not buy it; it was tasty however. The lamb loin is most likely sous vide made. This is generally OK, but it was over seasoned and not seared so it was at once over flavored and possessing of a bland texture. This is particularly disappointing given that one can typically find a good lamb loin in Colorado Springs. The Famous has one that is outstanding, for instance. The deserts were nothing to write home about either. The wine list, however, is extensive and features quite a few bottles south of the $100 mark.I would say that it is worth a single visit if anything to stroll through the Broadmore and enjoy the band. I would be a lot more inclined to come back if they implemented an a la carte menu or changed chefs.

My husband and I recently visited the Penrose Room to celebrate our 37th anniversary. Upon arriving we were escorted to our table facing the windows that were too high up to take in the view of Colorado Springs. The staff was very attentive and we were looking forward to a pleasant evening. I ordered the fall vegetables as my appetizer. After it was placed in front of me another waiter poured some kind of steaming hot broth over my vegetables. After the first bite I was ready to gag but tried a few more bites thinking it was just me. My husband also tasted my veggies and totally agreed they tasted like rotten eggs and needless to say I pushed them far away from me. Next came the salmon that was cradled on a bed of spinach...same horrible broth. Ate the salmon after pushing it off the spinach. Ok at least I can count on the dessert. Yes believe it or not the same broth was somehow used and I finally gave up. Worst experience especially at $250. Never again.
