Pennyroyal Scuba Center - Dive shop in Hopkinsville, United States
Absolutely loved my experience here. The site is very well maintained, the staff is very friendly, there are lots of things to see underwater. The quarry is very well laid out as well, with easy entrance and exit to the water, ample parking, and enough campground surrounding it. Will absolutely dive again!
A great site for all levels of scuba diving. From beginner to advanced levels, this quarry has a range of depths ranging from four ,12 and 30 ft depths all the way to 127 at its deepest. Staff is always friendly and willing to help. Come early as it normally fills up fast.
Drove from Louisville to get certified with Louisville dive. 26$ admission fee. Cool place for a first timer, tons of sunken things. Only fish I saw were bluegill.
It’s been awhile since we visited but a place we will never forget. Our grandson Jordan Blake certified here. It was an awesome experience. Cannot wait to visit soon. Super great staff.
Well organized, super friendly, knowledgeable, safety oriented, and the water is almost as clear as in a swimming pool. They also have a surprisingly well stocked dive shop.
Nice place, even nicer people!
Great staff, Instructors, all around great place to dive and learn.
Finished my scuba class skills here, and so far, it is the best quarry Ive been to!
The staff is awesome! Great location and great diving.
Love , love , LOVE this place! Kris is the best. Dont miss the number one dive place in mid America. The water is pristine and too much too see in a weekend so you have to come back.
The scuba diving is next to none on a clear day, several different attractions at different depths, picknik tables with covers to set up, Large quarry invites all kinds of different types of Divers, $26.50 to scuba dive, refills available with total equipment rental. Come one ( gotta have solo certification )and submit dive plan, online or in shop or bring a dive buddy, heck bring the hole gang
Great staff and fun place to dive. Local guy brought his trailer smoker down for lunch. Outstanding pulled pork sandwiches.
I want to thank u guys for return my free diving fins that got lost 3 months ago. It’s was a present from my mother in law and I lost them in the deep water.Apparently a guy name Brian tourney found one of themAnd put it on the retail storeThe other one still not found, but I believe they will found soon 🙏🏿Thank you Brian and thank u guys—————————————————On 5/15/22 they got my second fin.You guys are the best!!! 👏🏼
This spot is approximately 120 FFW, very clear and great for diving and training. If you’re going deep and staying for a while, I’d recommend a dry suit. But if you are staying above 70 FFW a wetsuit is fine. They cater to their customers and provide air, partial pressure Nitrox and yes, O2 up to 2000psi for CCR’s. This is one of the best “family” run dive sites and full service shops I’ve had the privilege of working with in my life. Dennis and Chris know their stuff. Chris is a long time instructor that has probably certified well over 1000+ divers and they teach just about every advanced course there is.The site and shop is about an hour and twenty minutes northwest of Nashville, TN on I-24 west. If you’re like me and travel with your dive gear and really need a dive, pay them a visit, it’s worth your time. If you like it so much you need to stay a few days, camping and cottages are available on site. If hotels are more convenient there are plenty in the area. Overall it’s a great place to dive!
I’ve dove there for years and it keeps getting better every time I’ve dove . From dive sites to the dive shop to the world class instructors . They have it all. The lay out of the property RV camping . It’s all great. This is the best dive area in Kentucky for sure
So, I called 2 weeks ago to get my wife and I signed up for a refresher course (for her comfort), dives, and equipment rental. I got “put on the list” (at this point, I am uncertain what the staff member who made that statement meant)and I left my mobile number and said see ya on Sept 2nd…we drove 2 hours to find they were closed due to Kris’s positive COVID test…FIRST- Kris, hope you are doing well and fully recover…SECOND-taught me a lesson…triple check before any tripsTHIRD-staff at PRS…please communicate if numbers are left…enjoyed the time with my wife, but not driving would have been better…hope everyone is healthy and will see you in a couple of weeks.Bob Richie
Awesome staff. Fun quarry. Walk in shallow entrance. Deep dock for walk in deep entrance (stairs). Able to giant strides, if you want.
Very cool stop. The RV parking came with electricity and water. The quarry was super clear. We will definitely be coming back. 🤙
Really good dive, viz was 25 ft+ and the scenery was cool lots of stuff to dive on a must dive location.
Excellent location with shade and tables to get ready, visibility was pretty decent, and the staff is very friendly. Definitely coming back!
Awesome dive site. Just plan on a very cold water dive below 30 feet. Hood and gloves are a must and minimum of a 5 mill suit. Great people to deal with. Great dive site close to home. You should check it out. Full service dive shop also.
Great place to dive, and the staff can always help you find a dive buddy if your solo.PSA wear a ear covering, the bream are part piranha.
Great staff and great prices. A great spot if your just starting out or you have a few dives under your belt and want a challenge. The fish are very friendly, cover your ears.
Chris and his dad are awesome! Friendly!! Will definitely be back!!
This is my favorite Quarry for diving. They have a wide variety of submerged items to explore and swim through which makes it interesting and fun. There are ample tables for getting suited up with drying racks for after the dive. Their fill station has both air and Nitrox and they have a small store with all the essentials. The owners are super nice. I highly recommend spending at least two days of diving to fully explore the quarry.
What an amazing place. The staff could not have been nicer! They made an incredible dive spot even better somehow. I will be going back again and recommend this place to anyone!
Had a great dive. Social Ambassador Todd was extremely helpful. The staff was all great. Great visibility and a lot to see. Thanks for making we novice divers feel welcome and for giving us a great time.
Just got certified for open water scuba diving at this center, great experience... the staff are super super nice and friendly, my instructor Jonathan was outstanding, made me feel very comfortable and understood my way of learning quickly and adapted to it, worked with me patiently and helped me to overcome my fear and discomfort... I achieved my goal at a very reasonable price !
Went to Pennyroyal for our certification dive. Water was warm and visibility was really good. We camped on-site. Electricity, but no hook-up. Theres a rough shower room. Family that owns it is very nice and accommodating. They even delivered watermelon slices to the divers! Small dive shop that will rent gear. Lots of cool sunken sites at a wide range of depths. Close to a Walmart and restaurants for any needs.
Top of the line Dive Establishment. Everything tailored to the local Scuba Diver. We have been diving with these folks for years. Many thanks from DiveBelowH2o Dive Shop and Training Center in Nashville Tn.
Great place with lots to see. The staff is very nice and helpful
New stuff to see. Decent camping. Visibility not bad
The quarry was a cool place to go diving. They have a number of things setup to see and there is plenty of fish to look at. The water wasnt the clearest today, but there was a lot of groups in the water which I am sure contributed to that.
I had an absolute blast while diving at this location. The crew is incredibly helpful and very kind. I was able to complete 22 dives over many weeks at this location without any problems. They always helped me find a dive buddy and get ready to dive. Dennis is an excellent host that I will never forget, he truly made me feel like family. The overall facility is well run especially with the amount of traffic they receive every weekend. This was a incredible place for me to gain experience on cold water and, at times, low visual diving. I really want to thank the whole crew that keeps this dive site going for affording me such an awesome experience. I hope to dive with yall in the future.
Great location to train, or have a fun comfortable dive. Little chilly. The set up is well thought out, busy on weekends but worth a dive! Great visibility.
Best freshwater diving around! Friendly and helpful staff. Me and my kids love diving here!!
As a new diver. This place is very nice outside. Thair are alot of things to explore underwater. The office needs to be just a little bit bigger so people are not standing on top of each other.
They rock quarry is one of the best inland dive spotd I have ever been to. The staff is friendly, their rates are reasonable, and there is all kind of neat submerged objects that keep a diver occupied. Coming upon an actual size Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton upright out of the lightly murky water is a bit unnerving, but great fun! There is an underrated basketball court with bowling balls for playing. You can do a deep dive on the wall to the bottom of the quarry.
Great dive facility! Great people!
Great visibility especially for a quarry. Plenty do see and the staff are very personable. The owners come around lunch time and bbqs dog and brats at a reasonable price. Get there early to register.
A small diving center with several sites to see ranging from shallow to deep dives within the quarry. Kris provided prompt air service and ready with information. Our experience was very enjoyable. Imagine what it would be like when they are busy. Thanks again.
Great place to start diving. Ive only been on the near shore area and drops, but they have plenty of 10 and 20 dive platforms. Drops to 60-90 are close by entry for practicing deep and getting to swim through excavator buckets, sunken boats, sunken vehicles, and near statues. They hold their own dive classes, but also check out Waterdogs Scuba in Clarksville as this is their local training site.
Went here for the eclipse, it was a good weekend of diving. Very friendly staff. Did get a very short air fill once.
Freindly staff. Brought my 8 year old niece to snorkel. Plenty of things for the beginner through the professional. Staff brought us some complimentary ice water on a hot day before the eclipse. All on all a great visit.
Absolutely beautiful quarry. The visibility is second to none in the area. Friendly and personable staff. Go once and youll be on a first name basis with everyone! Amazing level of customer service. One day pavilion space was limited and Kris Tapp went down to the water with us and helped us find a place to set up. Going above and beyond without being asked is typical here. Love these guys and the quarry!
It was really great. The waters were fairly clear....about 10-15 visibility....but as I was diving with my boys we had a great time. I will always consider this place to be one of the top dive sites to visit. Lots to see underwater with directional lines to lead you to the next site which makes it easy to navigate. If your into deep dives they have stuff there too. I have only been to 70 and you better where some warm stuff if you plan to stay at that depth, or a dry suit.....but definitely one place you need to dive.
Amazing & knowledgeable staff. I would highly recommend anyone that is interested in becoming more active to stop in and visit with the staff. My wife and I both dive here and 2 of my children will be attending their open water scuba classes this summer!
We drove in from Virginia Beach to dive some clear, shallow waters and were not disappointed. It was a great day of diving and exploring with my friends! We dove 13 May 2017, Temps at 60ft were low 50s and mid 60s at 20ft; visibility was somewhere around 60Ft. A 5mil suit, gloves and hood were all we needed for near 1 hour bottom times (in the shallow area). I would highly recommend it for skills training, confidence dives and great fun with your camera. Were already planning a trip back next spring with a bigger crew.
Definitely a nice place to dive. Staff are great, fellow patrons are friendly and the water is really nice. Beginner to pro, Im sure youll enjoy it (beginners opinion). Worth the trip if youre considering coming from far away.
Had a great dive!! Staff is awesome!! Lots to do. Did a 3 tank dive and still didnt see it all. Cant wait to come back. We drove 4 1/2 hrs to dive here, well worth the drive.
