Compact, quaint coffeehouse & crêperie with sweet & savory options, plus some sidewalk seating.
Penny Path Café & Crêpe Shop in High Point
Description
Food was great. I can’t say that much for wait staff and host. Did not feel so welcome. Only two tables were occupied and the server switched up the two orders. Not busy for that sort of mistake. Then the untouched plate got served to the other guy. Not kosher
MoreThis place is always a hit or miss, I went in with my girlfriend this morning (it wasnt even busy, no one was seated outside and only 2 other tables occupied when we went inside). We sat down, given menus and water and waited, 15 mins in and no one has even asked to get our drinks. One table has left by this point (so there was only one table and our own in there), soon after a group of 4 come in and get seated, after we have been waiting and within minutes they get their orders taken and I am watching as everyone in the kitchen is having a whole conversation and didnt even make eye contact with my table. The workers walked by our table plenty of times and did not acknowledge us. The majority of them had glasses so I know they are not blind. The owner needs to get their employees in check because apparently they do what they want when it pleases them. This will definitely be a last resort breakfast from now on, the customer service here is ludicrous. They cant even answer the phone if you call either.
MoreOur first time being here and we will definitely be back!! Super friendly staff, great atmosphere and food was delicious😋. You have sweet and savory options. Take out is also available. See you soon Penny Path!
MoreThe crepes are wonderful. My personal favorite is the Kitchen Sink (and I add baconwith the corn and tomato and basil filling. My only complaint is the coffee. We have gone to Penny Path and unfortunately every time we order a latte (iced or hot), it is not good. I dont know if they are just using pods or what but it is burnt tasting at best. Stick with the crepes and dont order coffee...
MoreThis is the first Restaurant my daughter brought me for my Restaurant adventure. Now I am in North Carolina! Come, if you can and try this awesome and delicious food!
MoreWhat an amazing place.Eclectic Art on the walls, Fun and friendly Staff. The Crepes, To DIE FOR!!!I forget the name of it, but the Cinnamon Apple one was out of this world.I am an avid espresso Drinker, and their coffee was amazing!!!Hats off and Belt loosened to the fine folks here
MoreSuch a cute place with a delicious selection of crepes. It does get busy on the weekends so call ahead if possible. Ill definitely be back!
MoreI tried a savory crepe, mushrooms and rosemary ham. It was tasty. My companion had the cheesecake crepe and what a presentation! Huge blackberries, strawberries, drizzle, powdered sugar. I am definitely coming back to tried her selection, visually it was a feast while mine was just tasty. Its delightful to see the embedded penny path in the floor and the penny accents. A fun stop.
MoreDelightful & Delicious!Vegan & Gluten Free Friendly.Located in a charming plaza with nice outdoor seating.
MoreThey do decent crepes for a place like NC. Have a good and tempting variety of sweet and savory crepes. The portion is big. It is nice they have an open kitchen where you can see them prepare orders. They have indoor and outdoor seating areas. Staff are generally friendly. We also ordered 3 savory crepes that I didn’t take a picture of because they weren’t decorated for presentation. If you come from a different country where crepes are more popular, you’ll know this one is mediocre. For Americans this is one of the best places!
MoreThe food here is absolutely delectable! I love, love, loved the sweet apple crêpe with the house cream and some honey. Even though the place was rather quaint and only had a few staff, they still brought out the food in a very timely manner. Im definitely going to be coming back here whenever I make a trip to Winston-Salem.
MoreBest crepe I’ve ever had (get the biscoff spread you WON’T be disappointed!!and BEST service ever. Hernan was the sweetest, most attentive server and everyone else there was just as kind and welcoming. If they’re understaffed, be patient and respectful! Regardless the experience is always 100% worth it at Penny Path, what an awesome environment and staff :)
MoreThis place is tucked into the Reynolda village and so worth the stop. We had two people serving us most of the time and both were great. They explained the menu, gave some great recommendations and were very attentive. I definitely suggest trying something from the coffee bar and getting a savory and sweet crepe. They mentioned splitting one of each and we were really hungry and decided for 1 savory for each of us and sweet to split. Lets just say we had a full meal to take home. It has much bigger portions than expected. The kitchen sink was amazing and I cant imagine there is a better savory option on the menu. The peach crepe with ice cream on top was to die for. We would come back just to have that for dessert 🤤
MoreOMG!!! Just discovered this gem. Kitchen Sink was magnificent. Crazy wonderful staff and host. Fruits and veggies were fresh and coffee selection is top notch. Thats the Kitchen Sink in my picture, in fact, thats just HALF the Kitchen Sink crepe and its still huge.
MoreThe crepes here are fantastic! I hadnt eaten crepes since my last trip abroad. They have sweet dessert crepes and savory dinner crepes. Its so wonderful to have a crepe restaurant in town! Take your out-of-town guests here!
MoreThe food is excellent.... No matter what you get. My husband and I love getting 1 each of the savory and sweet crepes and splitting each. The staff is kind enough to divide them between plates for you. Staff is friendly and helpful as well.
MoreSo glad I stopped into this delightful spot. Menu has a great variety of savory and sweet crepes. I sat at the bar and watched them make crepe after crepe and was impressed with the consistency and amount of filling. Despite a busy morning, service was fast, friendly, and helpful. Highly recommend.
MoreVisiting this spot again is going to being a necessity next time Im in Winston. I tried the spinach and artichoke savory crepe with rosemary ham, and it 👏 was 👏 incredible 👏. Looking at the menu, I seriously dont think you can go wrong with this place. For all of you that live closer than I do please do me a favor and keep these lovely people in business so I can come visit again!!
MoreIt was okay. My crepe was pretty good. And idk how to explain this but my “vanilla iced chai” tasted like powdered chocolate milk with cinnamon mixed in. Essentially a whole different beverage. Like keep it on the menu I guess, but call it cinnamon chocolate milk, not chai
MoreI just left Penny Path this morning (5/29/22). We were seated fairly quickly. Our waitress was okay. The problem started when we received luke warm coffees multiple times and the wrong coffee order. Then we waited for over 20 minutes to order. We had to find someone to take our order after no one came back. The waitress said something about shared duties and that is why everyone overlooked our table. Next we continued to wait for our order for another 20 minutes. I got ahold of a waiter to find out about our order and he said we would be waiting another 20 minutes. The people that were there after us ordered, ate and left. My brother and sister from out of town came with us and it was a bad experience. We did not receive an apology or any reassurance that this wont happen or anyone taking responsibility. My husband spoke to the hostess to let her know to cancel our order and everyone had a whatever attitude. As we were leaving to make everything worse one if the gentleman yells from the terrace did me and my group pay for our food!! I said we dis not get any food and we already spoke with the hostess. That was very embarrassing in front of the people that were eating outside. Just awful!! I hope changes are made because I know the food is great, but not at the expense of good service!!
MoreThe staff is friendly, the coffee AWESOME, the crepes are sooo good, get the Kitchen Sink! Been here twice and will be back again.
MoreService here is excellent, very friendly staff and lots of great menu options. Theyre good about informing you if they are out of something which is appreciated. Love the atmosphere and the sticker machine too. Seating is a bit uncomfortable especially if youre bigger folk but theres outdoor seating as well.
MoreWent here after dinner for a dessert crepe and discovered that we must come back for a meal sometime. They have wonderful savory and sweet crepes. We sat at the "bar" and watched the cook make crepes as we waited on ours. She was amazing! This was as much fun as it was delicious!
MoreFamily visiting from Utah so decided to visit Reynolda Village.. We had all kinds of crepes with nuttela, strawberries, bananas and others with ham, eggs cheese so delicious and ice coffees. The place had art for sale and the staff was so nice. What a cool spot to hang out in.
MoreINTRO: Penny Path Cafe and Crepe Shop is THE MOST POPULAR place in Winston-Salem for crepes. The cafe is situated in Reynolda Village, an upscale, California-esque plaza with multiple cute boutiques, cafes, and restaurants surrounded by a greenway that resembles a golf course.DESSERT 1: Fruit Cheesecake ($8.95- Strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries mixed with house cream, and a choice of nutella or biscoff spread. Honestly, this crepe sounded fantastic on paper, but in reality, it was a bit underwhelming. The crepe was nowhere as thick as I imagined, and there wasnt that much fruit. The flavor was there, but I felt that it could have been more rich. 7/10DESSERT 2: Banana Foster ($9.45- Powdered sugar crepe topped with bananas coated in almond flour and cinnamon, cooked in butter and honey, flambeed with spiced rum, all topped with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. This was the best crepe I tried by far among the 3 crepes we ordered. The bananas were extremely flavorful. They tasted as though they were soaked in butter and honey for days, and the spiced rum is definitely present. As mentioned before, the crepe was a lot smaller than expected, but the flavor profile blew me away. 9/10DESSERT 3: Crepe Suchard ($9.75- Crepe filled with vanilla ice cream and dark chocolate sauce, topped with fresh strawberries, lots of whipped cream and more chocolate sauce. This crepe is a strange one because its wrapped like a burrito. The ice cream that they envelope with the crepe melts from the warmth of the dough, so when you cut open the crepe, the melted ice cream spills all over your plate. I didnt really find this crepe to be anything special. Its a crepe that has strawberries and chocolate sauces. 6/10VENUE: The interior of the cafe is decorated with miscellaneous items, such as gears, pennies, and mismatched tiles, BUT the blend well together and match the "hipster" vibe that can be felt as soon as you open the door. Most of the employees wear casual clothes and appear to be high school- or college-aged. The tables inside the cafe are arranged in a semi-circle fashion that circumvents the kitchen area, where employees can be seen making the crepes from scratch. Outdoor seating is also available.PARKING: They have a parking lot, so parking should not be an issue.WORTH IT? Maybe, if youre in Winston-Salem and craving crepes. (Overall 6/10)
MoreFirst off ignore any negative reviews about the time it took to get food. Its a small establishment with limited seating. They give you a buzzer for when your table is ready and even let you wait on your car if you choose to do so. It has both indoor and outdoor seating.I had never been until that day. I took someone as a surprise for Valentines weekend and we loved it! Its not cheap, but its not ridiculously expensive either. Two meals, a 12 oz coffee, 16 oz hot chocolate, and a side of bacon $32 after tax. Before going I was worried that everything might be too sweet for brunch, based off of other reviews. However I was pleasantly surprised and it ended up being perfect. I got the Palatschinka crepe and my date got a peach crepe.
MoreCrepes were pretty good, nothing to write home about though. Both coffees were lacking in the flavor they were supposed to be, and the strength of coffee. Has an odd smell that’s slightly reminiscent of a wet dog.I’ll give it another try sometime.
MoreThis place has me crazy for crepes! What an adorable little restaurant. The food is impeccable and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Pops is the sweetest soul and he even sang to me for birthday! Talk about the icing on the cake (well, crepe)! 😏 Penny Path is definitely one of my new favourite hidden gems.
MoreI enjoyed this café… the crepes were outstanding, however the FILLING with the tiramisu and the inside out cheesecake was definitely overwhelming.it had a good flavor it’s just it was all a bit too much inside it…like the ladyfingers inside were kind of hard and then on the cheesecake cream filling was a little sour tasting,so because they use so much inside of it all you can really taste is the cream cheese filling and it wasn’t a sweet cream.I like to be able to taste the crepe so we ordered a plain sugar and OMG! Heaven! They are definitely understaffed with only two workers doing everything! I felt bad for them …cooking, ordering, bringing food/drinks out, cleaning tables and ringing out people. So you could tell the waits were off and takes a bit to get everything. They were very nice and worked hard!I like the atmosphere, but it seems like due to Covid things are a little askew/little off in the inside.we will definitely return… because, point blank the crêpe was excellent!
MoreThe crepes were incredible! This place was super understaffed though (its not that bigbut when were there there were only two people working the floor which led to some pretty massive wait times in between being seated, ordering, and getting our food. I would really recommend the sweet crepes if you do end up going
MoreThe crepes are soooooo good. We had a variety of savory crepes (Brie/Red Pepper/Canadian Bacon; Pesto/Turkey/Red Pepper/Parmesan; Mozzarella/Mushroom/Ham/Red Pepperand loved them. Then, we celebrated a birthday with the delicious tiramisu crepe. Outstanding! We went during a busy lunch rush and sat at the bar, where we enjoyed watching the crepe-making, but found it a bit hard to hear in the loud interior of the restaurant. Still - highly recommend!
MoreAbsolutely delicious crepe. I got the Crepe Tiramisu. The lady fingers were crunchy in the middle but the flavor was amazing. Only reason why I took off a star was because of the 25 minutes I had to wait to get my order taken on a slow day (Thursday around noon). And then no one communicated to me that I had to go to the register to pay for my meal. I simply waited outside at my table until another waitress was taking someone else’s order and asked us if we needed anything. I said I would like my check and she told me I needed to go inside. Again, great food—just a bit frustrated with the amount of wasted time.
MoreExcellent breakfast! The crepes are incredible and certainly worth every bit!I did feel bad for the staff - since the minute they opened they seemed slammed. But we had good service and excellent food. Will go back!
MorePopped by here with my husband a few days ago, I had been once before and been impressed with both the crepes and the service, so I wanted to treat him as well. While I grant that the pandemic has changed virtually everything about the restaurant biz, and forced a lot of places to change dramatically overnight, I will say that the awkward placement of the host stand in a self-made tiny cubby directly behind the only way in or out makes the interior feel really cramped. It might have been their only choice floorplan-wise, but if social distancing is the goal, it definitely isnt helping matters. We were sat by a very nice waitperson, figured out what we wanted from the menu, and ordered. When nearly a half hour had gone by and our crepes still hadnt come out, I was a little puzzled. There was maybe two tables out on the patio and one other table of two people inside, and we didnt order anything particularly complicated, so it seemed odd. There was also a lot of back and forth conversation and disagreement (quiet, grantedin the open kitchen about how this crepe or that crepe should be made, I believe a manager or an owner was there and that might have caused the issue. There was easily three or four different - and seemingly unoccupied - wait staff people walking to and fro as we sat, waiting, a little confused.Right around the 35 minute mark, our crepes finally came out. They looked beautiful and tasted as delicious as I remembered, but I still wasnt sure what took them so long. Id still recommend this place as a fun spot to grab something sweet, but maybe not if you have someplace to be at a certain time!
MoreCant say enough amazing things about this cafe and the staff. Our puppy was immediately greeted with love and "puppy pancakes." The owner was extremely personable and actively chatted and connected with each table, even letting a little girl make a pancake in the kitchen.Beyond the staff, its a great environment and vibe. Really cute inside and out.The food was also amazing. I got the brie crepe and added apple slices---delectable!
MoreMy wife and I had an excellent breakfast there this morning! Both savory and sweet crepes are delicious! Coffee was great. Staff was super friendly and helpful. They have gluten free crepe batter and clean the griddle between crepes.Super funky, cool atmosphere. They were playing New Orleans tunes while we in there, which made me happy! Cant wait to go back!
MoreI love the vibe of this shop from the ceiling fixtures to the pennies on the floor! The coffees are made to order and always down to the recipe. The crepes are flavorful. I got the fruit cheesecake crepe which I extremely recommend. The savory crepes like the Hawaiian & the dried tomato are also delicious for a lunch option. Definitely coming back!
MoreThe crepes were delicious. We really enjoyed sitting at the counter and watching them make the crepes. The special included tomato soup that was very tasty and so pretty that I had to take a picture.
MoreI visited on a whim after working out at Pure Barre in the plaza and I will definitely be back! Amazing service and everything was incredibly fresh and delicious. I had trouble chosing which crepe to get because all of options sounded amazing! I went with one that had a mix of berries and came with Nutella and Biscoff spread. I cant wait to go back!
MoreThe food was great! My wife got the Daily Special of tomato soup with grilled cheese crepes. Both were excellent and very well paired! I got the mushroom and cheese crepe and added pepperoni. Most excellent! Especially when dipped in my wifes tomato soup! Very cool vibe and atmosphere. Well go back for the sweet crepes next time!
MoreWe stopped to eat here after a long day hike at Hanging Rock State Park. We were starving. The staff was very friendly, the service was incredibly fast despite that they were pretty busy, & oh. my. gosh...the food was AMAZING & very filling. Even better, the prices were pretty reasonable, too. There was a nice area to sit outside, as well. DEFINITELY recommend.
MoreNorm and Cliff had Cheers in Boston, I have Penny Path in Winston-Salem. This beautiful, fun, lively, and friendly restaurant has my heart. The staff take the time to get to know you and put their heart and soul into the crêpes and drinks they make. The cooks have made small crêpes and special birthday crêpes for my kids and it means the world to them and me! This is a great place for any occasion - whether youre coming by yourself, on a date, with the kids, for a business meetup, or with a group - Penny Path wont disappoint.
MoreDelicious crepes, fun little cafe in Reynolda Village. The waitress we had was a bit unprofessional but she also stated she was new. The staff was friendly and the decor was really unique and made it an experience. There were thousands of pennys that made a path through the restaurant (hence the namebeautiful exposed brick. Local art was featured that you could purchase and there was quite a bit of artistry in the decor which the cook told us was done by the owner. Great place for a summer lunch.
MoreReally fun, quirky atmosphere with very friendly staff and decent prices. Nothing fancy, but its a great little place to relax after walking in the gardens. They only do crepes, but they have so many interesting options that I didnt really mind. The crepes themselves are fluffy with just the right amount of chew and the fillings are well balanced flavors with just enough to leave you feeling satisfied. I got the lemon crepe last time and the sweet/tart combo of the lemon curd and raspberry puree was really bright and flavorful and delicious
MoreStumbled upon this incredible crêpe shop and was pleasantly surprised- super hip, very original and staff was very friendly. Although most of them seemed to be college students, they made every one, young and old, feel very welcome and accomodated. One gentleman made a point to find two sweet elderly ladies comfortable seating and stayed to explain several menu items to them before leaving them. The crêpes themselves were delicious of course. They were filling, not too sweet, and you can watch them being made in the kitchen if you sit at the stool bar. Would definitely visit again next time I come to town!
MoreI went to The Penny Path for brunch and it was amazing delicious! The staff is very attentive and friendly, which is so helpful for customers like our family, that have have children. The crepes are absolutely delicious.. I highly recommend this restaurant!
MoreThe ambiance and artistic feel of this place is very inviting. The soft music playing adds to the dining experience making it pleasant especially for a date or group. Theres a great array of sweet and savory crepes on the menu to choose from and the smells coming from the kitchen are heavenly. Our servers greeted us promptly, checked in on us, and shared some of the history of the place. We tried the sweet cinnamon roll, along with the bacon egg and cheese (BECand sun dried tomato crepes from the savory options. One of the crepe makers even came by our table to make sure we were enjoying the dishes (her crepes were phenomenal for our 1st trip). Great experience definitely will return to this quaint little cafe nestled in Reynolda Village.
MoreAs always, we were searching for decent vegetarian in WS. The menu offers several choices for savory. We had the kitchen sink. They split it for us rather than handing us one plate and 2 forks. The fruit cheese cake crepe was dessert. Again, 2 plates. Nice. Both were delicious with fresh fruits and veggies.
MoreMy group went to Penny Path for lunch on a Tuesday, and the place was absolutely packed. Service was a mix of waitresses taking orders and bring food, but we had to fend for ourselves when it came to grabbing drinks. Watching the other tables, it seemed the typical wait for food was half an hour. It didnt help that a few customers had seemingly decided to spend the entire afternoon hogging booths and sipping coffee. The crepes were great, though presentation was drab and theres literally nothing else on the menu. The interior of Penny Path was fantastic and we passed the time admiring the work that had gone into constructing it. Well certainly visit again, perhaps during off-peak hours.
MoreWe dined on the patio, with our dog. We started with the Kitchen Sink and the Mushroom crepes. Both were excellent, and the serving size of each was enough for a meal. The menu is divided into savory and sweet sections, and everything is vegetarian, with the option to add a meat. Its all made to order, and we waited about ten minutes for it to arrive. We finished with a sweet crepe, which we shared (peach with honey). It was great-- just the right amount of sweet. The staff was very friendly, and the atmosphere is both classy and casual.
