Penfolds Magill Estate Cellar Door - Winery in Adelaide, Australia
Visited with my partner today and was served by Ivan. I wanted to acknowledge his amazing customer service. We enjoyed the experience and highly recommend it
Disgusted to hear this brand is still sponsoring the Melbourne Cup.Research by Our Watch has found that there is often a spike in men using violence against women during and after major national sporting events like the Melbourne Cup. But why prevent violence against women when there’s a party to be had. Surely you could be sponsoring something positive instead of this barbaric and outdated event.First, Australians are losing an estimated $24.9 billion a year to gambling with a social cost of $4.7 billion a year (according to Australian Government’s productivity Commission).Second, the inherent animal abuse in the racing industry including whips, tongue ties, spurs and doping as well as the serious injuries during a race such as broken bones and ruptured ligaments which often result in the immediate killing of the horses the racing industry pretend to value so much.Third, the horses being pushed to hard resulting in the horses dying suddenly during or after a race from heart failure or Exercise Induced Pulmonary Haemorrhage. All the while the racing industry tells you they retire horses to happy farms for them to grow old. It’s the same lie parents tell young children after the death of a pet yet many adults still blindly believe it.The RSPCA states the racing industry does not provide collated statistics on injuries and fate of racehorses. No surprise there.
We had a fabulous experience at Penfolds. Ivan was our host and he not only knew his stuff he had a great sense of humour. I would highly recommend experiencing the taste testing at Penfolds Magill Estate.
Coincidentally, the wine that was sleeping in the warehouse saw the light of day. After waking up from half a century of sleep, the wine was transferred to the decanter according to the instructions. And now the blissful hour has come
I love my Penfolds wines! However, this place was far too overrated, even for a fan of the Penfolds name. The tasting area was very inconsistent! Felt quite intimidating and found the daily tasting of 6 wines took an hour! First 3 wines down in 5 minutes and the last 3 took 45 minutes to be distributed to us... why??After the day tasting we had lunch scheduled but we decided to try Grange before lunch. We were told she would tell kitchen to push back 30 minutes for the Grange taste. She didnt... We got called asking if we were still coming. Fortunately no dramas with kitchen.Lunch was great and staff was amazing. Constantly checking up on us and topping up our glasses!Went back for fortified tasting as a dessert but it was rather a rushed service. Heres the wine, thanks. Was happy to buy something extra at the end of the day, wasnt sure if any discounts for tasters nor was really talked to. So just kind of... left? Not sure what the go was. Maybe only seeing two people wasnt a priority to them on a Saturday...Cant say much else...
Incredibly professional staff (Ivan in particular was so knowledgeable and welcoming that we came twice and brought the family)! A beautiful vineyard with so much history. A must visit in Adelaide.
It feels like a restaurant owned and labelled by Penfolds. Nothing exclusive to be specified as a winery cellar experience. You want to experience brilliance of Penfolds, visit Penfolds at Nuriootpa Barossa.Well curated blends with great service.
Lovely tour and tasting experience with Will.
I had a couple of friends visiting from interstate so I shouted them the Penfolds Ultimate Winery Experience and tagged along myself - wow - what an incredible day! The tour was amazing and gave an in-depth understanding not only of Penfolds but of how south Australia became a wine Mecca! Enthusiastic guide and beautiful grounds, the morning was rounded off with a premium wine tasting - so good!
Did the cellar door tour for $25 which included 7 wine tastings at the end. Wonderful experience, very good value.Jonah our tour guide was excellent. Highly recommend.
From what should have been an amazing birthday experience was very much soured by the service received in the cellar door.We began with the degustation - superb food and cant fault the chefs!Did the wine pairing also with this, some very good wines, although quite frugal with the serving sizes.Received the bill and whilst we were aware of the cost going in, we werent aware we would be charged for water???? seriously??? When spending the money we spent you really then add on a charge for still water???So, we let that go and then headed over to the cellar door to relax the last hour of our day away with a couple of tastings. On entering we explained we had just experienced the degustation and that they had advised us to come and enjoy a tasting at the cellar door. Sat at a table, glasses laid out in front of us eagerly waiting to be filled and ............ after 10 minutes of staring at the empty glasses, decided to take our business elsewhere.Very disappointing from such a reputable brand.Wont be back and wont be recommending to anyone - there are some absolutely fantastic smaller wineries out there who havent forgotten how to treat the little guys.
We visited the Penfolds venue today and had a brilliant time. We were greeted and severed throughout a tasting by Will and his team. They were knowledgeable, patient and were incredibly kind to my grandma who had a million questions. We enjoyed some food from the snack menu alongside the tasting and it was delicious. Thank you for a lovely day!
It’s definitely a wonderful experience! We visited Penfolds before, but the service and atmosphere in Magill Estate is absolutely the best one!
Quintessential Australian wines in a stunning cellar door. Not all the wines are to my taste but some excellent wines in the mix.
Stunning location, good and service... and the wines werent bad either ...👍😃🥂
Great experience, had a lovely experience with the wine tasting and the food was exceptional, staff were very friendly, 10/10 !
We did the 2 hour tour and wine testing with Jonah and I was simply amazing a really cool experience
After an error on my behalf, arriving for an experience at the wrong Penfolds 🤦🏻♂️ Gi Gi was very helpful, she went above an beyond to accommodate my error and make sure my journey was not wasted. Gi Gi invited us to taste some of the #amazing wines, then to squeeze me and my partner in on a group tour of the Penfolds site. Which was incredibly informative and inspiring.
We had lunch and chose the chef’s menu, it was delicious and very refined. We also had a wine tasting. The people working there were very helpful and knowledgeable. We had a great experience
Excellent tour, wine tasting, lunch & port tasting as part of History Month. Great tour guide Gigi; lunch & wines excellent; venue superb. Thankyou.
Visited Penfolds Magill for the Iconic Experience which included a tour of the estate, wine tasting followed by a set menu lunch at the kitchen. The tour and wine tasting was excellent. Sam our guide was knowledgeable and a great guide. No questions were unanswered and the wine tasting was not rushed. we could not fault this part of the experience. The lunch at the kitchen was not as great as expected. The food was average and the wait staff did not explain the meals that were being served and we were not offered a menu to tell us what we were eating. One waiter in particular was extremely rude and plates were plonked down in front of us. When questioned if this particular plate was the gluten free option he was even ruder still with his reply. This soured what had been a most memorable experience touring the estate and tasting some amazing wine. Would definitely recommend the tour and the wine tasting but pass on thee lunch
Genuinely disappointed today. Our order was lost and when my steak arrived it was tough and chewy. I was expecting a much better experience.
Meh! After being so excited for this, I was left disappointed. We did the Ultimate Tour. Our guide knew his stuff making the tour of the cottage and winery very interesting. But the tasting afterwards was a huge disappointment. It wasn’t so much a tasting as a hard sell. And our guide got pretty chirpy while flirting with a few young ladies. I found this unprofessional and off-putting. My entire experience was tainted by this young (very young!man ignoring eight other paying guests for his own personal ego massage.Shame on you, Penfolds. You’re mutton dressed as lamb. Give this a pass and visit St Hugo or Henschke which were fantastic.
Visited the winery in SA and have loved Penfolds as has the family for 50+ years but when at the winery, thought easier to purchase online as opposed to trying to transport home to QLD.However, very disappointed to then follow a promo link to the limited edition Penfolds bin 389 Cab Shiraz for $100 plus $10 shipping, to then find this identical limited edition wine for $10 cheaper at the Dan Murphy’s 2 mins around the corner.Feel stitched up and screwed out of $20 thinking I was buying something special at a good price direct from the winery. Still waiting on the wine to arrive from Penfolds but already this wine will taste somewhat sour not because of the quality of wine but because of the marketing and pricing of the product.
Stunning Penfolds Ultimate Experience tour and special mention to Gigi our guide for being so informative. Top notch service all round
Stunning products and atmosphere, but our experience diminished as soon as the tasting begun. One staff member was really rude because we asked to sit outside, saying you don’t offer tastings outside and we’d have to come inside to fill up between tastings. I’m sure it wouldn’t kill your staff to walk (literally10 steps outside, especially on a non-busy weekday. Weekends might be a different story. Regardless, no one should be spoken to like that. Same again when one taster asked to skip ahead on the list - as if it was somehow a major inconvenience.I don’t understand how such a great brand can deliver such poor service - it wouldn’t kill your staff to engage their customers a little and at least pretend they’re interested in giving decent service. Especially when it isn’t busy. A real shame. One lady was lovely but by then it was too little too late.
We thoroughly enjoyed the Ultimate Penfolds Experience. Our tour guide, Jonah was knowledgable, friendly and passionate about wine. Highly recommended.
Worst wine tasting experience ever. Me and my partner have been drinking Penfolds wines for at least 10 years, we bought a lot for gifting and some of the premium ranges. And both of us were very excited to travel from NSW to Adelaide and visit Penfolds cellar door. When we get there, everything started well. But when we start the wine tasting, we were only served 1 wine from the tasting list, in 30 minutes. This is ridiculous. I see the staff busy serving some corporate group visitors and completely ignored us. We tried to make some eye contacts, but there was absolutely no attention given to us.So disappointing. We were very, very upset. We visited on 22nd Dec 2021, 3:45pm. To the staff who served us, I dont care how many years youve been working with Penfolds and how many high profile clients you have met, you have set a very bad image for Penfolds.
Tastings enjoyable, restaurant meal very nice all be it a little light for the price. Shiraz superb as expected. Couldnt fault atmosphere and service. Great lunch venue
Awesome visit to one of the biggest wine producers in the world. We did the tour and had lunch in the kitchen, great day out and a must if youre in Adelaide 🍷
Great venue for a function in the Max Schubert cellar. There were 25 of us and the menus were adapted as needed. The food and wine pairings complement each other nicely. Its cool so a coat/ wrap is essential for comfort.
Booked for the ultimate penfolds experience- our host Sam was very welcoming, genial and knowledgeable. The tour is a must see for those with an interest in winemaking and it is topped off with a excellent tasting including grange. Highly recommended!!
Fantastic grounds, highly recommend the heritage tour it was a great tour of the site and explaination of the history. Great tasting options, extremely friendly and helpful staff. At a minimum do the tasting, buy a bottle of wine and order from the bar menu. Thanks!!
If you would like a tasting where the staff forget which wine you’re up to 5 times, when there were 6 wines total, come here :)Aside from that I have to say the grounds were gorgeous, worth a visit maybe for that reason.
This is a beautiful spot in Adelaide, so close to the city. My wife and I did the winery tour and tasting, then had lunch at the Kitchen. Will was our guide and host for the tour and tasting and he is fantastic; very knowledgeable about the product and the winery and a great guy to have a conversation with. There are some excellent wines available at really good cellar door pricesLunch at the Kitchen was superb and, as you might imagine, the selection of wines available is amazing. We had a fantastic afternoon here before flying home the next day. Highly recommended.
Wonderful place to have coffee and lunch I think. I just have coffee. Coffee is good. The tap water served was very bad smelly as soon as I seep. Not sure it was from water or the glass.
This historic Penfolds winery is very close to the city. The scenery is beautiful, and it is very convenient to taste and buy wine. You can park in the winery and enjoy the beautiful view of the vineyard in the car. The coffee here is great too. Id like to visit the wine cellar next time.
Less than 30min drive from the heart of city. It"s a good experience to come for wine tasting and $10 tasting charge will be waived on wines purchased.Or having simple lunch at Magill Estate Kitchen, fine meal at Magill Estate Restaurant with an advanced booking.Staff is very friendly and my suggestion is to buy The Collection & Cellar Reserve.
We did not have time to go out to the valley, but I am so glad we went to this estate winery only 15 ish minutes out of town! We did the Ultimate Wine Experience and had Paul who was a fantastic guide. He gave us a tour of the Penfolds home and the tour, and wine tasting experience were personable and full of knowledge. Had to buy. Few bottles to take home of course. Wonderful experience and hopefully you can land Paul as your guide.
We did the tour at 3pm. It was on time and the tour was fun and we learned a lot but it was only 30min not 1hr due to private function in the cellar. Overall easy access either by car or taxi, the only winery near town. Small but historical. Staff are attentive and friendly, however the restaurant side are less so.
A lovely way to end our trip in Adelaide. From the moment you drive up the entrance, Penfolds gives you an immediate luxurious feeling. Will our host was very pleasant and knowledgeable with the wine selection. Great variety to choose from, within the wine tasting range. Thank you Penfolds. We definitely will be happy to recommend and visit again
Penfolds is very well known however this place was very average. I came with a big group is 14 and communication of booking it was very slow. Some dishes were amazing and some were underwhelming. Service was very slow when we ordered coffees. I most likely would not be visiting again. That being said, it is quite gram worthy and very close to the city instead of driving to Barossa or Adelaide Hills.
Eugene was our Sommelier, great attitude, very knowledgeable. The winery itself is beautiful, dos not feel too corporate.
It offers fine dining Restaurant and Kitchen with serene views of Penfolds first vineyard. It’s located just 8kms from Adelaide CBD in the sheltered haunches of the Mounty Lofty Ranges, making it one of the world’s few urban single vineyards.Make a booking to wine tour, a journey to the heart of Penfolds winemaking, available in English and Mandarin.OPENING HOURS: 7 days, 9am-6pm
Went inside and wait at the sign which said wait to be seated, 3 staffs stand 5 meters away from me, talking to each other, one of them I think is the waitress, another one is bar tender, the man next to him should be the manager. After I look at them for one minute, the waitress come to me. I asked her whether I can seat outside. She said yes and asked whether I just need a cup of coffee. I said yes. Then I waited at outside for 15 minutes. Still no one tried to server me. Then a waiter went outside with the manager. I told the waiter what I want. And this is the end. Very disappointed, I won’t come to this restaurant unless I do not have a choice in the future.
Premier wine of Australia. This place is really worth a visit. The Heritage tour is really worth doing. They explain the history of the winery and take you through the now-converted cellars for a very memorable experience. You end your tour with a wine tasting which is the star of the show. I recommend visiting here.
Just on the outskirt of Adelaide CBD, the beautiful vineyards of this winery stretch. The seller doors are very artistic and very beautiful. Most of the wines taste very good. The cafe is a great place for a lunch. It has great views overlooking the vineyard and the city. They have also a very upscale restaurant for dinner. It is great destination for wedding and other events.
Did the Ultimate Penfolds Experience tour. Excellent tour and guide. Wonderful tasting of the very best of the Penfolds wines including Grange. An event not to be forgotten.
Awesome place to visit.... get understanding of all their wines and how there produced. Highly recommended if your swinging through the Barossa.Very commercialised winery... lost it’s old traditions of a winery cellar but the service and wine was what you would expect. Great staff, great food and awesome food with wine to boot!! Well worth popping in for a taste
Really enjoyed the wine tasting, the customer service was lovely and even changed the tasting menu a little to suit our wine preferences. The wine tasting is reasonable priced and free with a purchase. Had the flight of cheese at the cafe, expensive but a lovely treat.
