Patras Castle - Fortress in Pyrgos, Greece
Nice view for free! But the employees close as they like :(15:30 was expected and the closed earlier at 15:00 - so it was not enough time to enjoy the castle :(
Not much to see except the views of the city. The history of the place, albeit impressive, should be sought elsewhere.
The citadel is not big but it is very high with no shadows. Bring a hat or an umbrella if you plan to walk around in the middle of the day.
Fantastic views over the city, very rewarding after the steep hike up the stairs. The booklet they provide at the entrance has detailed and interesting info on the site, and all of this is for free. There is a bathroom too and some fountains to fill up water bottles. Oh, and the staff was super nice, they let us leave our heavy backpacks at the entrance and watched those for us!
Free of charge and in the morning almost empty.
Unfortunately the first entrance was open but the actually entrance of the castle was closed!
Its really amazing place to experience history and amazing views of Patras city from top
Beautifully kept castle with a lot of green and amazing views of the city.
Good view. Nice old place. A place to visit as a tourist
The best panoramic view over the city of Patras. Dont miss to walk on the top of the tower.
Beautiful place and amazing overview above the cityDogs not allowedFree entranceToilets closed
Not the most interesting castle in the Peloponnese, but the competition is stiff. A beautiful place though, with good views over the town. Unfortunately it closes at 15h30.
Great overlook on the city and coast. Free entry
Beautiful location, looked after garden and ancient castle, friendly staff.
Very good view pOver the whole City and free entrence, cleen Toilette and friendly people who explain everything...
Epic castle with epic views. No professional video/photo equipment is not allowed and you are permitted to stay max 10 minutes on the top
Spectacular views of Patras, including the bay! Incredible fortress and grounds. What a gem! A must see!
Amaizing. An extraordinar view of Patras City.
It is ok to visit if you have some extra time in the city.Though do not expect an expectacular medieval Castle.
The views from here over the city of Patras are spectacular. Entrance is free, grounds are neat / clean. The castle is on a hill and getting to the top of the castle wall requires climbing quite a few steps too, but the view is worth it.
Sunday afternoon, it is closed for my visit. 30 yrs ago, I remember seeing the outside walls without too much trouble. Now- houses are build against the eastern wall and nothing is visible. I will try to return and update. The inside should still be a nearly complete castle
Very nice place to visit with a great view to Patras city
The Ancient Patras Castle, was built during the Byzantine era and it is since then, Patras key landmark that attracts tourists from around the world. It offers an amazing 360° view that is simply stunning, the interior of the castle gives a medieval atmosphere that allows the tourist to travel back in time in a sort of way. The exterior is well preserved and a beautiful space that allows many activities for kids and adults alike. Anyone who visits Patras must visit the Castle as it is an experience that you cant afford to miss. Did I mention that it is free to enter?Because it is. No admission is required at all.
Learn more about history of Patras spending time in this beautiful castle. Small garden is adding this place special atmosphere.
Nice view of Patras. Good for a morning stroll.
Castle of Patras. Nice castle and gardens overlooking the town of Patras. We drove there, and entrance was free, worth a visit if you have time.#CastleofPatras#Patras #Peloponnese #Greece
Very nice
Such a beautiful place! Free entrance, and a beautiful forrest nearby. Highly recommend to go there and wander around a bit!
Free entrance but a number of sections are closed for maintenance work in November 2019. Good to spend 15 - 30 mins here.
Great castle/fort. You can see the various stages of fortifications thru the ages. If you go up the stairs to the highest point (northeastern toweryoull get the best views of Patra. And its all free!
The highest point to view the city of Patra, this major attraction is definitely worth visiting. Entry is free, it has clean toilets within its walls, and nice park benches under tree shade to rest and contemplate your navel. It is a large area that takes about 30 minutes to walk around and explore. Do it. It is centrally located and easy to get to.
Its history and it has beautiful views of the City
VERYYYY excluded from the publick, plus the care takers take such good care of the property.
Hike up from city centre just in 20 minutes to reach Patras castle! Beautifull views, wonderfull gardens where You can rest under the treas to hide from hot sun.
If you love a magnificent view and want to have a look at all of Patras in one go, then Castle of Patras will allow you to exactly do the same. All you need to do is climb the topmost area of the castle and you will unlock a mesmerizing view for yourself. The best part of this Castle is that it is free to visit and the best time to visit is in the morning. The Roman Odeon is pretty nearby and its at a walkable distance. You can probably cover both of these places together and get the whole package in one go.
I must admit I had to visit the castle for so many years and a couple of months ago I decided to pay a visit with my daughter. Then we went again with all the family. They have transformed this place so well, its unbelievable! You can see all of the city from up there and its very well maintained. Full of grass, clean, quiet and in general its a must for the town of Patras. Just pay a visit:)
Small castle with great views. If you are in the area, definitively worth a visit especially since it is free ;)
It is located on a low hill at the ends of Panachaikos at a distance of 800 meters from the coast of the Patraikos Gulf. Its walls include an area of 22,725 m². and consists of a triangular external enclosure, reinforced with towers and bastions, originally protected by a deep trench and an inner courtyard raised in the Northwest. corner and also surrounded by trench. The construction phases present in the castle are a testimony of the work done by its conquerors for its repair and adaptation to developments in martial arts.Nowadays, at the solitary theater (640 seats)
Breath-catching panoramic view! For sight-seeing and relaxation. More than an archaeological place, an inspiring park!
Amazing historical site with amazing views of Patras.
Patras Castle is a little gem in Patras. Free to enter. Walk around the yard and the walls of the castle. Great views of the city from the top of the walls. Amazing to think of all the armies that have stood there over the centuries. Its sad that the castle hasnt been properly restored though
Free and very nice view from the tower. Parking on site or on the side of a narrow road nearby.
Surprisingly interesting view from it and some Byzantine architecture, some fig tree where you can eat some figs ( I ate them in August and they were greatand the castle is free to visit.
Neatly rebuilt castle. Nice but small gardens. It would benefit from more information boards placed in relevant areas.
The ruins of a great medival castle with a great view of the city.
The entrance is free and thats why I rate 5 stars. Nice views from the top, but dont expect more than a group of walls and stones
The view from the castle is nice you can see almost everything. It is not very big and you can walk the inside of it in a lot less than half an hour. I rate 3/5 because not so many things happen there and I think it could be managed better. Also it has a little outside open theatre.
The view from the castle is beautiful, apart that... nothing else.
Free admission! Instructional video on the history of the castle. Panoramic views of Patras
Following recent restoration works this heritage site is an ideal place for a recreational visit. Take the path leading to the inner fortress for stunning views of the city and its surroundings
