Once the Royal palace of the kingdom of Patan, this place was converted to Patan Museum later after the unification of Nepal. And this place is a marvel of beauty. The courtyards it has, the monuments and different gods inside, the stone & wood carvings, gold and silver works; a pure mixture of highest level of craftsmanship with elegance. While the museum documents and displays the artifacts of historic importance including royal artifacts, tantric and cultural texts, statues of different gods, paintings to name a few; this place has turned out to serve as a perfect location for various kinds of photo and video shoots. You have to pay a fees to get inside and separate one to do professional shoot inside. They have necessary amenities and the museum with its perimeter is kept very neat and clean everyday. There are some places where you cannot go inside or take pictures, you should be weary and follow the instructions of the guards and guides. All in all, a beautiful masterpiece of art and architecture, very highly recommended!

One of the best place to visit for tourists if they are around Kathmandu valley. This museum reflects the ancient art and culture of Nepal and represents the richness. Nepal is cradle of Buddhism. Museum has some of the most precious idols of Buddha that you cannot see anywhere else in the world. The museum is not only working on the preservation of art and culture but also the an autonomous institution working on the designation of Buddhism. This is one of the finest museum that I ever saw. It did little bit researched and came to know that Austrian Government and UNSECO helped the Nepal to restore the area and organisation to develop as an institution. I guess one has to stay there for more days to have a good sense of locals and about the museum. I have some knowledge that different gestures and poses of Buddha represents different meanings. One can only comprehend if properly informed. For the first time I saw Buddha in so many positions and that feeling was great. I am planing to visit Nepal in near future and this time I will certainly stay for more. I wish you good luck.

If you visit Patan Durbar Square in the hearth of Kathmandu/Nepal, please spend 1000 NPRs to buy the ticket to visit the museum. Its worthy!!! Especially for students or who love history, art, and architecture in particular. Its a huge complex thats well managed and maintained all its arts and architectures. Cant say how impressive it brought to me. A lot of information to learn about and witness the creativity, uniqueness, and efforts of our ancestors.

Nepali cultural expert Satyamohan Joshi recently said that patan durbar has about 7,000 relics/artifacts. However, only 300 artifacts are currently under display. Therefore, there is high possibility (and a need tooto utilize durbars open grounds as a big archaeological garden which can showcase almost 6,500 hidden artifacts.

Magnificent architecture which has managed to magically survive the onslaught of 4 earthquakes in the last century. Some parts are under reconstruction/ conservation. Nonetheless, the area has a lot of architecture to be witnessed condensed in one common location.

Patan Museum is by far the best museum in nepal. The detailed conservation and the beautiful works by newari artisans makes this museum extraordinary. The museum itself is in a palace complex with structures going back to the 17th century. Even if you dont have time to observe the curated objects. Spend the day visiting the many courtyards of this palace, its an unforgettable experience.

The museum is a must go if you are at the durbar square. The impeccable architecture is beautiful and the entire museum reflects the history of patan. It has well documented displays of sculpture, carvings and histories and is famous among tourists. There is need for entrance fee and the tickets can be used for the museum as well as viewing sundari chwok which is nearby. The museum allows taking photos and also has seatings beside windows through which durbar square can be viewed. It has an interesting courtyard.

The Museum is housed in the renovated Patan Royal Palace. Its exhibits date back to the 13th century, ranging from the raw architecture of the museum itself, to countless paintings, sculptures and carvings. Well maintained, clean and informative, it is easily the best museum in all of Nepal. As of writing this review some portions of the museum are being renovated; the exhibits are relocated to another wing.
