Historical park about dinosaurs, with guided tours of preserved footprints & life-size skeletons.
Parque Cretácico in Tarabuco
Description
Privilege
Interesting, but not alllowed to go with kids under 12 to see the footprints. Entrance- 10bs for kids, 30 for adults(20 for Bolivians). Bus from Sucres main square is 10bs for kids and 15bs for adults - return trip.
MoreWorth the visit if you have the time, it is fascinating stuff. The main attraction was the wall of footprints. Took the micro from Junin St. near the market and took it to the last stop, where you can take it back to the Mercado Central.
MoreVery interesting place to witness where dinosaurs walked. Great guide, go for 12 or 1 when you can get a guided tour right up close to the footprints. Its fun to do the virtual reality head set too!
MoreIt was amazing seeing the dinosaurs foot prints that were left on ground long time ago of these animals, and what’s amazing is that these Dinosaurs were living in this area what’s now Sucre in Bolivia.
MoreHow can a huge rock wall with fossilized dinosaur footprints not get five stars? I thought it was amazing! There isnt much more to the park other than the wall - unless you have young children. They had an interesting park and some dinosaur statues around. There are 5 DinoBus departures from the main square in Sucre: 9:30, 11, 12, 14, 15. BUT, make sure you go on one of the tours at the park so that you can see the wall up close. I think there are only 2 tours each day, maybe 11:30 and 13:00? (check the website).
MoreYou can get a bus from the city all the way to the park. There is only 1 walking tour per day to the dinosaur footprints from 12-1 pm so make sure to be there before that. The guides are included in the entrance fee which is nice
MoreThe dinosaurs footprints are very interesting. You can go down with a guide to see them up close (highly recommended, however it is a bit rocky, so bring according shoes). Every dinosaur within the park is a replica of actual scale and with a high level of details. Overall a great experience with an incredible view.
MoreSucre city is not only a colonial place but, it has several locations to see and learn about the dinosaurs that strolled on earth
MoreVery interesting place.. take bus from main plaza.
We missed the guided tour so was disappointing but would have been better on the tour.
MoreBeautiful place to visit. They offer tours in English as well as Spanish. 10 bolivianos for locals and 30 bolivianos for foreigners. They have a little museum and they have two special tours at noon and 1 pm that take you really close to the footprints at no extra cost.
MoreIts an enjoyable place with many statues of dinosaurs and the footprints.
Cool to see, but poorly executed park.
The worlds largest dinosaur footprint site. The "Cretacic Park" built and managed by a cement quarry company is small but very well done. The company has a bus that leaves from the main square several times a day. It waits at the corner where the cathedral is. The tour takes a couple of hours and is worthy.
MoreSo, to be honest. I have been there and it was awful. Every single step of the dinosaur can be seen from the street outside of the park. It was very expensive and I did not like it. For people with small children the statues of the dinosaurs may be okay, but for someone, who is interested in the steps, it is a wayyy too expensive. I think for a family with small children it is okay. What I have to admit, is that the Park is green and beautifully made. I just didnt like it and I think it is not worth it. Also, foreigners pay 3 times as much as natives.
MoreVery enjoyable and informative park. Shuttle goes from the main plaza in Sucre at 11am each day. Make sure you arrive before 12 or 1 to get the full footprint tour
MoreWe caught the Dino bus from the centre of sucre (return 15bs). A knowledgeable guide showed us around the park and explained all the dinosaur history of Bolivia and South America. We then got a second tour guide to the Dinosaur footprint wall. Both were in English and included in the 30bs entry. There are a lot of steps to the footprints, so be aware.Overall a lovely half day trip from Sucre!
MoreThis amazing little spot brought back all my childhood memories of loving dinosaurs. Its incredible to see these footprints that are millions of years old right in front of you. And then of course the park itself is very nice with dinosaur replicas and small Museum. I highly recommend this place if you are on Sucre!
MoreImpressive Wall with footprints. Try to be there at 12 or 1pm so you can go for the guided walk which leads closer to the footprints. Otherwise you will see it only from the viewing platform (which is still impressive)
MoreIts recommended to take the bus in front of the cathedral (I think 15 bs roundtripor a taxi (80 bs with waiting timeat 11am. At 11:30 when you arrive you will get an included guided tour through everything and you can go down and see the footprints. Dont spend the 20 bs for a photo license, nobody ever checks it.
MoreSmall museum, good for families, but not much going on. Large footprint can ONLY be seen from 12-1pm with a guided tour. Spent about 20 mins total exploring the small park.
MorePark displaying real dinosaur footprints, the largest collection of dinosaur footprints in the world. It is an amazing site! However there is not much protection of the site - you can get up so close to the footprints you can touch them, which isnt good for preserving them
MoreInteresting place to visit. No wheelchair facility if you wanna see the footprints closer. But it’s an attraction for all ages and very interesting. Info are available in English and Spanish. The guide is good and provide good knowledge in English and Spanish. Worth visiting if you have time in Sucre. Easy to reach! Just 6 km from downtown. Entrance is 30 bls for foreigners and 10 bls for locals.
MoreCool spot to visit and not too far from the main square (30-45min drive depending on traffic). It’s a bit of a hike back up but well worth going down to see the prints up close. There are a tonne of them!
MoreInteresting place to visit, there is bus you can take it from the main square, to go and back. You should pay a entrance fee also a photograph permission. There are tours in Spanish and English. You should wear comfy shoes for the trek to visit the dinosaur steps, they provide you a helmet.
MoreWe took the bus out here and didnt have high expectations. When we arrived we were told to sit in a cinema and watch a video that was entirely in Spanish (and thats absolutely coolbut we were also told the tours to the dinosaur footprints are only at 12pm and 1pm. We werent told this previously and probably our fault for not researching well enough, but we were a bit disappointed. Without the walk to the footprints, the park is OK. Do yourself a favour and go at 12pm or 1pm. They said they have plans to expand soon which should make it a bit bigger and better. The guide was friendly and knowledgable and spoke English. You can still see the footprints from a significant distance.
MoreA Cool Dino Park to visit Close To sucre. From the center of the city there are buses where you can hop on every hour in front of the cathedral on the main plaza. its very nice to do and the tours are also in English. The Incredibles size Of The Wall where The Dino footprint are Found on is one of the most Special things I have ever seen. The Park is also really Child Friendly so Dont Forget to take your Kids. Its not really Big Butt Its Great for a couple of hours. Only The de 12 and 1 oklock Tour wil you give you The possibility to check The Wall from nearby. So be on time.
MoreThe footsteps on the 1.5km wall are well worth he visit. The explanation given by the guides are clear. The Parc itself is very kitschy with mockups of the different dinosaurs.Great for kids, a bit less for adults. We spent around 2hours here and came with the Dino bus from the Main Square of sucre.
MoreSome nice lifesize models of dinosaurs, but otherwise its just footprints. Most of the information is not provided in English.
MoreIn this place you can find replics of dinosaurs is like a park. Offers fantastic view of many many footprints. Inside there are a park exclusive for kids, a museum , souvenirs store. Every day at midday its possible to visit more close the footprints of dinosaurs
MoreTake the bus from plaza de 25 de Mayo next to the church. Round trip bus tickets are 15 bolivianos. Take the 11am bus because there is an English tour right when you arrive. The tour guide brings you down right next to the footprints. You can also buy tickets at Joy Ride Cafe across the street from the church.
MoreWe caught the bus from the main Plaza (keep your ticket as it covers to/from bus), but you can also catch a taxi. It is on the outskirts of town, so a bit far to walk on a fairly busy road. You can spend about 1 to 2 hours here easily. The location has a film (in Spanish but still interesting if you are not a speaker), tours of the grounds which have to scale models of various dinosaurs, a few rooms with history and examples of bones etc from the era, a cafe, and a viewpoint to see the entire wall.Do the walk tour down to the wall itself. Its amazing to be so close to the prints, but hard to really capture them in a photo. The tour runs only about 2 times a day, because at the chosen times the sunlight angle is best to actually see the prints clearly. The guide did a great job explaining ho the prints were made, how they came to be at an angle, and how they were found. As a small travelling family, visiting this location with a child was a no-brainer. Its the main event for kids and (young and oldhere. ***Very young children may not be allowed to go on the wall tour*** as it is located on the end of the working cement factory (a part of the history and reason the prints were found). The main reason is that you have to wear hard hats in the wall area, and these helmets are not made for child heads. (About 8 years old was their threshold. If the hat fits, wear it!Younger kids would still enjoy the other things to see and do on the grounds. There is a dinosaur themed playground inside the grounds for kids to explore. As a pairing with this location, make sure you also take your kids to the main downtown Parque Bolivar where there is all sorts of dino related things to play on!
MoreGetting there and back: The dino bus from theSucres central square departs Sucre just past 11am, gets to the park around 11:25 to put you right onto an 11:30 park tour that leads right into a 12-1 footprints tour, and then gives you enough time to grab a drink or ice cream at the restaurant before getting back on the bus to leave a little past 1:30pm.The bus costs Bs 15 per person, and park entrance is Bs 30 each. Theres an optional "right to take photos" badge you can buy for Bs 5, although it didnt seem particularly enforced. The tour down to the footprints is quite steep, and you have to wear construction helmets, since the park is located inside a dusty, hot concrete mining facility. So wear good footwear, have sunblock on, and be prepared for a moderately strenuous hike back up afterwards.
MoreI loved our visit here. Its truly amazing to see real dinosaur footprints dated back so many millions of years up close. Also theyve made the entrance up to the prints really interesting with life size models of various dinosaurs and our guide (included in the pricewas really interesting. Get the local bus (no 4from 1 block below the square (ask a localfor 1.50 BOB pp each way and save a load by not taking the Dino bus.
MoreNice place with some actual replicas of dinosaurs, interesting videos are shown before the actual visit starts and local guides give out basic info about the place. You may get closer to the actual dinosaur tracks only around midday on a tour that starts about 11:00 am...lots of dust and sun, so have some sunblock and suncaps ready...
MoreGo there only if you are a passionate or dont have anything else to do. 10bs for locals, 30bs for foreigners. The 12pm and 1pm spots might be the best for footprints, it is mostly the peak hour seeing buses full of people - at least you wont be alone. The guide to the footprints is dynamic a speak good Spanish and English so it is easy to understand (when his voice is not covered by a storm). To me didnt worth my time nor money, but just my personal feeling.Take the local bus 4 to get there - and back for 1.5bs
MoreSmall park. The fossilized footprints on the cliff is impressive, but the rest of the park is just okay. You can get there by public bus, taxi or the "Dino-bus" that leaves from the main square. Be sure to get there for the 12pm or 1pm tour of the cliff.
MoreInteresting place to visit! Worth seeing and the park is very well done. However the footprints are located at a construction site which affect the experience a bit. It would be nicer if the containers from the factory could be moved further away and the site improved for visitors with some information signs on site.
MoreMake sure to arrive in time for the noon or 1pm tours to the base of the wall of dinosaur footprints, these are the only times you can get up close to the footprints otherwise you can only see them from distant viewpoints. For 30Bs a guide gives you a brief tour through the museum and some giant dinosaur models. In order to get closer to the footprints, another guide leads you downhill with a required hard hat. Its amazing to get so close to something so old! The climb out is a bit taxing but we doable although children under 10 are not allowed.
MoreI enjoyed this place. Make sure you are there at 12 or 1pm to see the footprints up close. They are quiet a walk down into a valley from the visitors centre. Gently of bathrooms and reasonable food. The bus 4 goes from next the main Sucre plaza for 1.5Bs ~45mins, or you can take the more expensive direct bus from the main plaza. Our guide JC was great fun and has many toy dinosaurs to explain things with.
MoreGet the bus from the main square at 11am to arrive in time for the best tour of the day. Great English speaking guide and interesting displays to enhance the experience and understanding. Absolute bargain!
MoreA great place! Free guide, dinosaur footprints and models, and its all quite cheap (30 Bolivians for foreigners). Get there with a bus from the main plaza (15 Bolivians both ways)
MoreA Family Fun Day awaits here at Jurassic Park. Make sure to get the pass that allows you to take pictures. A fun day discovering an ancient world and learning how it has impacted our Earth. Neat facts that the tour guide will explain, and life size skeletons makes these animals come to life. Make sure you book the specific times at 12pm and 2pm so you can go down to the wall of fossil footprints and see it up close.
MoreVery interesting place to visit, especially with children.
Its the famous plate that has many dinasour tracks on it. Do be careful on tour timings otherwise you might not get to get a close up look. (9am and 1am the day I wentwould have preferred if there were more English description plates but none the less it was beautiful if your into this stuff. Sad though that wall is slowly breaking through time.
MoreSpent about 40 mins there, were too late for the tour to the wall so didnt see the footprints. The huge sculpture is pretty impressive, its a bit of a laugh for some selfies with the t rex. Dont go out of your way if youre right for time. Getting the number 4 bus for 1.5 boliviano to the park is a bit of fun!
MoreImpressive park transporting you back in time
I wouldnt recommend this to everyone but if you like dinosaurs, geography or evolution this could interest you. I was pretty determined to go despite what people said. The tour can be painfully repetitive because the guide will explain many times how the footprints were preserved by layers over time. Very painful for those of you who arent geologists.
MoreI went in thinking it might be a bit cheesy but actually really enjoyed seeing the foot prints up close and then having it brought to life with the to scale models. Our guide, Jose, was excellent. We took bus H from out the front of the market, only $1.5 bob. You can also take the 4 bus from the same place.
MoreBrilliant. If you like dinosaurs in the slightest then you will love this place; its a real delight to stroll around all the life size models; make sure you check the website in advance if you wish to tour the footprint wall, likewise be careful of your visit time in regards to the gift shop too - we had to wait around for quite a while before we could purchase our souvenir t-shirts!
