Museo de Artes Decorativas, 25 de Mayo 376, 11100 Montevideo, Departamento de Montevideo, Uruguay, Montevideo
20th-century French-style palace, once a private home, now housing the Museum of Decorative Arts.
Great museum, well preserved period pieces. I would suggest adding some signage in other languages to welcome tourists that might not understand Spanish that well. Also make sure to visit the basement area for a small museum with ancient Greek, Roman and Phoenician artifacts among others.
Beautiful French styled mansion that you can explore. The mansion is completely furnished in a very opulent style. There is also a museum located in the basement full of Greek and Roman artifacts, mostly pottery.
El Palacio Taranco Es Demasiado Bello. Una Verdadera Majestuosidad de Su Época. Vale la pena Visitarlo .Además Tiene Un Subterráneo Con Piezas Arqueológicas Muy Bien Expuestas Al Público.
Aug 2022. You can enter this jewel for free. Hard to believe it but true. I totally recommend a visit to this amazing place for a taste of the past and great pictures. We loved it and the fact that it wasnt crowded made the visit perfect.
Beautiful palace of the Ortiz de Taranco family. Now is a museum. Free entrance. In the basement theres an archeological musesm.
An historic home with many interesting artifacts and artworks.
Beautiful palace. Lots of history. Artifacts on lower level. Wonderful history of Uruguay
Museo Taranco.
Recomendable
Beautiful, well preserved building
Limited displays but interesting
A hidden gem!We were passing by and luckily decided to check it out. Very beautiful old mansion with incredible tapestries and some of the original furnishings. On the basement there is a quite extensive archeological exhibit. Totally free and you are allowed to wonder around this beautiful "blast from the past". The Plaza Zabala that is behind the palace is also a very beautiful place with lots a large trees and many chirping birds. Another beautiful square in Montevideo!!!
Nice aircon and its free!
Welcome to my home?!
Stroll around this once-upon-a-time family home in the center of the old town to get a sense of just how elegant life must have been in 1920s Montevidéo. Its a museum now, but really feels like a faded glamour queen. It is free, which is a plus, but is only open on weekdays, which is kind of weird - why is there no life in the old town of MVD on the weekends?
Historic mansion offering a glimpse of the decor of the early 1900s. Italian, Spanish and Dutch paintings. Admission to the first and second flrs is free.
A snapshot of early 1900 building and art. Great style, art, furniture, decoration and tapestries in a smaller but elegant size.
What a beautiful place. Has lots of little details. Its the museum of decorative arts. About 110 years old and still well maintained.
See how the other half lived in Montevideo.
Beautiful place & well worth the visit
Amazing old house / palace turned museum! Definitely worth a visit. On the dias del patrimonio it opens for free to the public, not sure of price on other days. There’s an indigenous museum in the basement which is less great in my opinion, as the collection is quite small. But the main and top floors of the house are gorgeous, very elaborately decorated, including three antique pianos.Patio is beautiful as well.
Marvelous architectural details and art. Well worth the visit
off-the-beaten-track palatial house in slight disarray containing an amazing little collection of European masters paintings: Ghirlandaio, Goya, Ribera, Sorolla and a few Dutch ones.
A majestic house with beautiful furniture, architecture, paintings and finishes. It covers an entire block adjacent to Plaza Zabala. A must see in Ciudad Vieja. Easily seen in one hour.
Amazing.
Excellent
It was a neat place to visit. Free and a quick walk through.
Smells terrible, couldnt stay
Great decor! Magnificent art!
Bellisimo
A great example of 19 th century architecture. Nice employees. Free of charge.
A hidden treasure
Interesting
A nice insight in to.how the wealthy lived here in Montevideo. This mansion has many original features and is presented as close to its heritage as possible. The building is beautiful along with the small garden area. The inside is gorgeous in many parts and very plain in others. The decor is ornate and fitting with the period it represents. The basement has a collection of artifacts from different civilizations, Egyptian, Roman etc.Well worth an hour of your time to have a look around this place.Entry is free and the staff are helpful and friendly!
Beautiful museum. Surprisingly, there is a Ghirlandaio hanging among the portraits and landscapes.
Terrible Terrible tourist attraction.Was closed 13:00 Till 16:00 on a weekday.Avoid.
Closed on Sunday. Inconvenient for weekend tourists.
Great place to throwback to 20th century
Very nice staff gave me a good introduction to the museum but also to the city.
Beautiful building and inside as well. The furniture and decorations are well preserved and transport you to the Uruguayan aristocracy scene. There exhibits were not that nice when I visited it and theres a terrace not opened to public, such a shame.
Very nice place to visit in the city, and free entrace. The art collection and the place have been built in the beginning of the century and conserved like this since then. Tasteful.
