Place d'Armes, 78000 Versailles, France, Nantes
Immense, 18th-century palace with gilded apartments, chandeliered Hall of Mirrors & fountain show.
When we arrived at the Palace of Versailles (it is easily accessible with public transportall the tours were already booked, so we weren’t able to enter the palace itself, only the gardens. Since this was my second visit to Versailles I wasn’t too mad about this but if you want to see the Palace from inside I’d recommend booking a ticket beforehand! The gardens are definitely also worth a visit, not only for their many statues and maze like hedges.
A must visit when in Paris. A short train ride from Paris. Be sure to buy a ticket before you go and reserve a time. It was much slower after lunch. The Hall of Mirrors, Kings room, Military hall, and Napoleon paintings were my highlights. Take your time because there is so much to see. After the palace, be sure to enjoy the gardens. The flowers were in bloom and great views from the palace. It is a great place to eat a picnic or wander but it is quite a walk.
A must do if you have an extra half day to spare to come from Paris. Very extravagant living quarters and dining halls in palace with lots of history. Art and sculptures everywhere. Also, cool to learn more about how the royals lived their lives until the French revolution. We arrived at 9am on Friday to visit and got through the line in 10min with the Paris Museum pass. We spent almost 2 hours going through each room in the palace before heading to the gardens with a separate ticket.
Versailles is stunning. Every inch is dripping with opulence. The scale of the estate and gardens baffles the mind. I had trouble navigating with the map from the main palace to Marie Antoinette’s Hamlet (English gardenbecause I simply couldn’t believe how far the walk was.If walking is difficult or painful, I suggest renting a golf cart (I heard it was $36 euro /hour). I wish I had rented one for 2 hours. The 25 minute train to and from Paris May or may not have available seats (standing room only).I arrived at the Palace and used skip the line tickets with a tour. 100% worth it.We met in Paris at 10, Arrived by 11am. Some of the group left after the Palace tour due to rain…. I went for it. The weather cleared and I never stopped walking until 6pm when I caught a train back. I saw a lot (all of the big sitesbut you could spend 3 days there if you really wanted to.Bring a poncho, small umbrella and shoes that can get muddy— just in case.Fountains only turn on at certain times (2:00pm I believe).I was told the last train goes back to Paris at midnight. Some of the tickets can be scanned twice to allow a single re-entry.The Maria Antoinette Garden required a separate $12 euro ticket but was well worth it.
The palace is massive. You can easily spend all day here between the palace and gardens. It was absolutely stunning. Be prepared to walk a lot! We took the train from Paris, it’s a short walk from the station to the palace. We bought our tickets online. If you don’t buy tickets ahead of time, there’s a long line to purchase, then another long line to enter the palace. We rented the golf cart to drive around the gardens. Well worth it to see the gardens without having to walk all of it. I highly recommend going here.
We visited Versailles recently and while the castle was pretty incredible, the gardens are where its at for me! They were so beautiful. We easily spent 4 hours walking around in them. I would definitely go again. Also, the restaurant inside the castle boasted amazing staff and even more amazing food! Add this to your travel itinerary. You wont be disappointed.
It was awesome place to learn about the living style of the French king Louis , you have to visit it to realise the grandness of the every thing that’s there.Reaching there from Paris is very easy through trains but you would have to walk a kilometer to reach the palace from train station. There will be huge crowds on weekends, to avoid you can visit either off season or try on week days. Also if you have museum pass better bill the appointment before hand you will thank yourself as it will help you cut most of the queueAlmost whole palace ceilings are painted beautifully , there are huge portraits of kings and about their lives in the galleries you gotta see out to believe it
A must-visit in Paris. Highly recommend purchasing tickets ahead and for opening hour. We did the self guided tour and were fine. Everything you could see was impressive. Be prepared for a lot of walking. We rented the electric golf cart to tour the gardens, glad we did, and it does take about an hour.
When we arrived at 12:30, we found a note on the gate saying that the palace is closed due to a strike, with a ton of people waiting. Luckily, it was opened at 13:00, and we were able to visit this magnificent palace. It was an extraordinary experience. I’m definitely planning to come back. One time visit is not enough to learn about this beautiful palace and learn of how it was built.
Would definitely recommend visiting this palace and it’s gardens! It’s great, beautiful and you will enjoy it for sure! You have to buy ticket to the palace online for specific timings and show up at that time, pre purchase the audio guide to avoid queues. For palace it will take approx 2 hours to walk through all the rooms, for gardens you need separate ticket, and there you will spend approx 2-4 hours ;)
Iconic gem of France full of history and artistic masterpieces. Be sure to plan to spend half of the day here. It took us 5 hours to go through the entire place plus the gardens. I suggest renting a golf cart as it’ll be the easiest way to get through the gardens which are massive. The golf cart comes with an audio guide that plays from its speakers so all guests can hear. The guide is automatic as you enter in certain areas of the garden.
One of the best experiences of my life. King Louis really out did himself. The vision to build something that would be revered 200 plus years later is unbelievable. We went here with a fantastic guide, Andre, who was knowledgeable and passionate about this tour. Though under renovation in some parts it was not a deterrent at all. I can’t even tell you my favorite part because there was so many. The kings quarters, the hall of mirrors or the magnificent gardens that had surprises in every corner. How this is not a wonder of the world I do not know. Someone get on that please. It’s a 45 min drive from Paris but it was well worth the trip. There is discussion to setup hotels around the palace grounds. It certainly would be a wonderful thing to do. This was my favorite part about my trip to Paris as it was just an incredible way to travel back in time to a magnificent and historical time.
Majestic and beautiful. Its a must see for any tourist. They could do better with the toilet signs as everyone was confused about the location. Do well to rent a buggy for a tour of the gardens as it is quite a stretch. There are restaurants scattered far apart . Having a snack and a can for a quick water refill would help. There is a drinkable water fountain just after the main palace gate on the right hand side.
Always wanted to visit. Well worth it. Easy journey from central Paris. Bought tickets in advance which helped beat the queues. Advice to go early. Great artwork and rooms. Garden is magnificent. Coffee shops and restaurants very busy so couldnt use even the ones in the gardens. Toilet facilities throughout which is great. Overall a great experience.
A must visit if you like history and the beauty of luxurious vintage royal fantasies. We did the evening water show which costs about 30euros, parking is free after 19 00. However, beware the number of people. These shows are only during summer. It ends with fireworks and it portrays very well The sun kings Romantic mood.
We really enjoyed our tour here. It was guided and it was very interesting to learn about the history of this beautifully decorated place. Do the skip the line tickets if you do not have a guide. You can also access Versailles by the high speed train from Paris... it takes about 12 minutes. And then possibly a 20 minute walk from there? Our group was on bikes and we arrived quickly
This visit to Versailles was fantastic! I booked our tickets online. The online portal is a little confusing because you pay for the admission to the palace and the gardens separately from the tour which is not intuitive. One would think that if youre getting a tour, it includes the admission, but that is not the case. We took the train from Paris and it was an easy ride. We arrived at the palace, went where the tour picked up, and the wonderful experience began. We were guided to a ticket booth where we were the only patrons. The person printed our tickets for the tour, the palace and mission and the gardens admission. We were then invited to sit down and wait for the tour to begin. This is no small thing since we would spend the next 7 hours on our feet. The guide arrived, we were given our listening devices and the tour began. We were shown the kings private apartments, the theater, and a few other places. The tour lasted 90 minutes and at no time did we have to stand in line!!! The line outside for everyone else was crazy. I think it took those people about an hour or longer to get into the palace. The cost for the 90 minutes small group tour (there were 20 people on the tourwas nominal. After the guided tour was over, we were free to explore the castle on our own including the hall of mirrors. Once we finished the castle, we went out to the gardens. Honestly, we could have spent the say in the gardens. They were lovely. When the day was over, we took the train back to Paris. Transportation was easy, efficient, and inexpensive.
I was blown away by the sheer size of this place!! Lots of walking and you could easily spend an entire day here. The gardens alone are a maze and the golf cart rental in getting around definitely makes it easier on the body! Highly recommend though!!
The Chateau of Versailles is one of the best places in Paris, a must see! Any pictures you have seen dont do it justice. The pure opulence of the Palace is extraordinary. Everywhere you go is beautiful art, even down to the walls. The Hall of Mirrors was my favorite area. The restaurant inside had the best club sandwich you will ever have, with the service to match. The gardens of the Chateau are expansive to say the least. Beautiful fountains and sculptures at every turn. Plenty of areas to sit and relax and just enjoy the gardens. I spent the entire day exploring the Chateau and the gardens, and I would do it all over again.
Mesmerizing palace. Extremely beautiful. You can see the wealth French kings had. Just a bit of outside Paris. But a train goes there. Reaching there is not a problem. Buy daily 1-4 zone card of 12.5 euro. This Card will cover whole Paris and also Versailles.Must visit place. Always book your time slot. They check time slot at the gate. Book it online way before your visit date. Ideally do it 10 days before. The tour is managed well with clear entry/exit signs
This is definitely the most majestic, colourful and beautiful palace you can visit in Europe. I still cant believe how some people lived in such a place before!Youll find something you never saw before here. I attach for you some photos to have an idea of its majesty!
Great place, definitely highly recommended. Book a ticket in advance, better 2-3 months before your trip or buy group tour to get the ticket in the busy hours. Be careful, once you step out of the gardens they wont let you in again at the same gate. Especially, in the west of the park, its very way to step out of the boundaries without realizing it.
The palace is stunning, however I visited on a busy, hot day in August and felt that customer service was below the standard I would expect from a place of this calibre.Pros:- beautiful collection and the audio tour explained everything to a high level of detail- the gardens are beautiful and worth the visit in itself- the musical fountain shows are also very good, and are every 10-15 minutes, so not too long a wait.- easy access by train or bus, a short walk from the station. Easy parking on site if you are driving.Cons:- huge queues for drinks, snacks etc. There seemed to be a shortage of refreshment stations on such a large property. As a result, there were very long queues and I spent 35 minutes waiting in the glaring sun for a drink. I feel there should be more facilities available especially when so many people are given entry. This has to be improved for me to consider visiting again.- Queues to rent a car or see the grounds by train were upto an hour long. This option to book could have been given online beforehand, and so on the day you can just turn up.- The palace was very warm- maybe the facilities team might consider improving ventilation or adding air conditioning into some of the areas that have been modified anyway to allow tourists to visit.Overall I feel this is a great place to visit, but probably avoid in busy season as the palace services and facilities are unable to cope with so many visitors I feel.
The Palace is amazing! Absolutely stunning. Have wanted to visit for years, after watching the series, and so wanted to see the 3 horse fountain, but never found it, told it was closed. Very disappointing.Loved the musical gardens, and fountain shows to music. My only negatives, was we waited half an hour to get in, and it was scorching. Also, there werent enough water sellers around the gardens,we were so parched but couldnt find one, we were so weary at this point, unfortunately we had to leave because of this.
Versailles was a really cool experience although we came with reservations as early as possible on the weekday. I highly recommend renting a golf cart to cart around the gardens otherwise itd take hours to trek around it all! Try to not come on a day thats 90F degrees because we all got roasted alive and AC was spotty at best inside the palace (understandable given it was a historical site).
It’s a magnificent palace. So far, the most beautiful palace I’ve visited in Europe. The palace’s area is also charming and worth a visit. The problem was that in August it was very crowded, and one must book a visit before, since it’s a very popular site. Even when you have a reservation for a specific hour, you should be prepared for a long waiting time. Pay attention that the price for a regular visit doesn’t include visiting the gardens when there is a special fountain event.
All time favorite tourist attraction while visiting Paris. Highly recommend giving yourself a few hours to visit. You still may not have enough time to see everything. The palace is stunning. Marie Antoinette was living in opulence. The palace is massive, but the gardens go on for miles.PRO TIP- Rent the golf cart to visit the gardens. Better yet, rent a bike. The golf carts can only stay on their assigned path. If you venture off path, the golf cart will turn off.*Marie Antoinette’s cottage house is not open. You can only view the outside.
I first visited the Palace of Versailles with school, and I came back almost three decades later with my family. It was exactly as I remembered it but I enjoyed the visit even more this time! My kids (9 yo, 6 yowere very happy about the visit and particularly loved the gardens with all the spectacular fountains! Definitely a must-visit if youre in the Paris area!
Amazing historical palace! BEFORE YOU GO DOWNLOAD THE APP. It has the audio recordings on it so you don’t have to wait in line to purchase it. You can spend a couple of hours there or the whole day. 4 hours is a good amount to see it all. I would recommend paying the extra fee to enter the garden as the landscape is beautiful. You can rent golf carts to tour the area but the bikes are much better (try the tandem ones if you can handle it).
Read up about the history of the Palace, which was a hunting lodge before Louis XIV turned it into a palace. Buy tickets online ahead of time and definitely pay the extra money for the audio tour and entrance to the gardens. Accessible by train from Gare Montparnasse
A must visit if you near the area or in Paris. Plan the whole day there so you can experience both the palace and the gardens. There is so much to see and the Palace is so large it takes about 2 hours to properly walk around. The staff are very helpful and the security is excellent. My advice would be to buy tickets for the palace in advance online as the queues can be extremely long. The Hall of Mirrors is the stand out room in the Palace and the architecture is a spectacle of grandeur.
Amazing! This is a great experience. If you get the chance do visit. There is a free audio tour which you can download as an app. The rooms and the content are fabulous. Yes, it’s very popular. There are timed tickets for the Palace itself which are very good value. The grounds do require a lot of walking but you can hire a buggy. The fountains are beautiful and if you can do walk down to the boating lake. A good number of cafes and restaurants at the bottom of the gardens. We returned in the evening to see the water fountains display and fireworks. Over 3 hours of entertainment. My advice is to download the free map so you can see all the displays. You can bring a picnic for the evening.
A great visit on a hot sunny day ☀️You can easily walk to the gardens, even on a crowded day. (Like almost every dayThe palace is beautiful and you should see the chapel from inside. Its best if you have two days to visit everything
Wow - what a place! Highly recommended.Make sure you have at least 3-4 hours for a full walkthrough of the inside and a quick walk of the upper gardens. If you want to go for the full garden tour you need at least two hours to walk it, if not more. You can take a small bus around the garden as well. And you can even rent a small golf car.Disabled people can get around fine on all levels, and the are very spacious and easy accessible. The gardens are also easy to access for all. During high season in summer, make sure to bring water into the gardens, as it gets really hot.
Beautiful place, I didnt imagine the size of it, I think it can take two days easily. One for the Castle and another for the Garden/Park. I would just like it to be clearer the possibilities of what to do there, its just so much to do, would have loved to see more information about the construction/building or general history, too much "gossip" about the life of the people that lived there (my opinion)
Its nice! However it is very busy and you need to have tickets in advance!I will recommend you download the app and use the guide there much easier and faster. It also has an interactive map which helps you see where you are.I will say you need to have a full days especially if you buy the passport ticket which allows you to go to all the exhibitions.
The palace was incredible. It definitely explains why the French people started a revolution. I do think the audio tour and guide could be better. We recently toured Windsor Castle and found the way they did their tour more user friendly. My favorite part was the Musical Fountains. We had a great time exploring the grounds.
A must-see for those with an interest in French history. When in Paris, a day trip to Versailles is a worthwhile experience for any and all. Touring the palace is a breathtaking experience, from its grand bedrooms and iconic Hall of Mirrors to its many paintings and other works of art. The palace displays the glory and extravagance of France’s monarchs, starting with the quintessential absolutist Louis XIV and continuing until the French Revolution. The palace and its grounds are filled with beauty and history which should not be missed. One of the highlights of my recent trip to Paris .
A great experience for an American coming to France for the first time! The free self guided tour of the inside Palace rooms and art was informative. The outside views of the gardens, lake and fountains were spectacular! Amazing too see how the royals lived back in time. A very enjoyable day overall! Its too bad my cell phone died or I could have posted more pictures.
Lovely place well worth the visit the palace is beautiful and the gardens are spectacular!. It is just a short train ride from Paris. Highly recommend visiting. We were there at the beginning of June and it was extremely busy.
Clearly worth a visit. The logistics to get their are so-so (if you catch the right metro, all good, if not you circle 1.5 hrs through the south of Paris). Apart from that a place full of history and the self-guided tour tells the story of the castle really well. The building is absolutely stunning and so is the park area around it.
Legendary place, you need at least 4-5 hours to spend instead it. The palace itself is breathtaking but better to go around it with a guide to tell the details about everything. The gardens are amazing. Better to rent a golf cart to go around it. Be aware that you rent it at the beginning of the garden there is usually waiting time and you need a driving license. If you want to go for a boat ride then you definitely need more time
Obvious tourist trap is obvious - but you can’t miss Versailles. The building itself is absolutely stunning, inside and out. This palace is the definition of excess and opulence, but it is also rich with history and it’s very impressive.Timed entry is best, and be on time for your time slot. It will take some time to get through security and to stand in line for the [free] audio guide.Definitely take your time to go through all the different rooms, although I think I personally enjoyed the rooms devoted to the history of Versailles being built most.Do spend the money to see the gardens. Some would argue that the gardens are even more beautiful than the palace. They are certainly extremely impressive, and huge. Do leave yourself time to see both - expect to spend an entire morning or whole afternoon at Versailles.
A must visit if it’s your first time and it’s a full-day trip, easy to get around by public transit from Paris. Suggestions from my visit is to pack a lunch and snacks in advance to bring with you, because there are only a few lunch spots in the Palace and they do get very busy and with limited options. It didn’t say on website or our tickets, or when we were existing the garden. But once you leave twice you can’t enter again. So don’t make the same mistakes as me. It was an extra long walk to get back when we couldn’t enter through the garden again.Book the row boat ride extra too, it’s super fun if you’re in a group of 2-4, also prefect for families.
A visit to this iconic chateau provides a nice & quick break from Paris. The royal apartments are incredibly opulent. The Hall of Mirrors should not be missed. There is also a gallery of paintings depicting famous battles from French history that will attract fans of military history. The grounds & gardens are beautiful as well. However, only a small subset of all the fountains are active on any given day. Also, be prepared for the royal apartments & the hall of mirrors to be incredibly crowded all the time, to the point where properly savouring the experience might not be possible.
They weren’t kidding when they said this was an all-day trip. Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy in the gardens, and get ready to be blown away! This history, the architecture, the glittering gold gilt on everything... it’s just incredible! So worth the trip from Paris! If you get the right ticket, it also includes the Grand Trianon and the train ride back.
Pleasant atmosphere and a lot of history. Even if you have tickets 🎟 you will have to wait on a row because there are many many people who want to visit the place. The gardens, the music, the space - everything is beautiful and worth the visit.
The place is superb. The castle is very big and the garden is huge.Recommended for a family tour or couple tour.We went in there for our couple tour.It was raining and we did not finish the garden tour. The experience was great.Recommended for those people who loves history.
I love Versailles! It’s beautiful on TV, but in person, it is AMAZING. The history this place has. It is truly a world wonder. Decided to visit after seeing they built a hotel on the grounds of Versailles. The tours are remarkable and the tour guides now so much about the palace. If you have been thinking about visiting, do yourself a favor and just do it. You won’t be disappointed.
France has the most beautiful sights. The architecture of these building to have maintained for these c nitrites is unbelievable. The French have truly preserved their buildings. Although dusty and slimy from the elements, the structure is intact. Inside the decor is absolutely amazing, with all the details King Louis asked for down to the smallest details. He asked for and received the best of the best for him and his family. They lived the luxurious life with everything available to them. There are rooms designed for each person, event and all in between. The walls, the fabric, the designs, the entire Palace is well maintained and well kept from the original years. Gold for days is seen throughout this Palace.
