POKEMOTO - Hawaiian restaurant in New Haven, United States
Boyfriend & I ordered sushi burritos through UberEats (that was probably mistake one), we received them DROWNED in spicy mayo. Not in a good way. Disgusting. Too much mayo- it wasnt edible or wed get sick. We did check off spicy mayo when we ordered, but why you would think drowning everything in the sauce would be a good idea is beyond me. Never ordering here again. Cant believe we paid for this.
Fresh ingredients and large serving size, if you like poke - this is your place
This was my first time having a Poké bowl, and I was not disappointed! Pokémoto makes some amazing bowls with rich flavor, variety, all within a rather large bowl for not a large price tag! They have plenty of traditional options, as well as a vegan option, on top of building bowls from scratch, so theres plenty of ways to get creative with your meal! The branch was very clean, and had a pleasant aesthetic throughout! The staff there are terrific and very accommodating! I would certainly come back here again!
Well-cleaned restrooms, attentive employees, and quality food.
A very light but filling bowl! The ingredients come together to form a very beautiful flavor.
Healthy food, fair price with a very friendly staff.
Disappointing customer service. Waited patiently for my turn in an uncrowded store, was skipped over anyways. Food looked pretty good, though.
Spent 10 minutes ordering on an in store kiosk, then as we watched them make the bowls both were wrong from the start... Avoid this location.
Thought that other reviews stating the "half the toppings were missing" were hyperbolic, but the exact thing happened to me.
Never really had a Poke bowl but this place is FIRE! Amazing food and great service!
Quality just went downhill in the past 2 years. Not as fresh, and the portions are not consistent as before. Every time I order from here they usually get something wrong.Hoping they pick it back up,been a customer since they opened up in new haven.
They “were” amazing. In March 2019 I was there almost every single day. They fell off bad, the quality of food is different is doesn’t give fresh. I went in July, I asked for mangoes and was told they were out. Not only did the server say they were out, they had the audacity to say “mangoes are out of season.”HOW, in the month JULY!!!!??? 😂😒
I gave this location one too many chances. Last time I ordered through Grubhub, they were missing half of what I requested for my bowl. Gave it another chance tonight… HORRIBLE!! Not only was the rice COLD but it was HARD.. Like barely cooked!! So disappointing. I never have this problem at the Hamden location. I will go there only from now on.
Its was good but will never buy from this location again. I ordered online 30 minutes before and when i got there i had to wait 20 more minutes(this is after lunch rush). The guy behind the counter was indifferent. He didn’t apologize for the inconvenience. Once I got my food, I regret not checking it before leaving. They did not put anything i wanted in the bowl….
I will always love you guys but please note that gloves do not take the place of hand washing...especially after bringing out the garbage... OR when just coming in for your shift.
They got rid of the in person ordering process, and are redirecting everyone to a kiosk that doesn’t even have pictures of the ingredients, just the names, not offered any explanation. Please let me know what I’m ordering again. It’s not like it’s only a problem for people who don’t know what kani, ogo, etc. are, I ordered pickled radish expecting the normal pink disks and I got these huge yellow chunks I’ve never seen at a poke place.
Not a bad establishment, the prices are quite justified. The staff is nice and friendly. The food is quite tasty, everything seems to be pleasant. There is parking. Everywhere is cozy and clean. The interior is simple, no frills, the exterior is unremarkable. Nice cafe, I recommend
Not bad... But you guys added more stuff to my bowl than I wanted. All I wanted was traditional Hawaii style. Fish, shoyu, furikake, sesame and rice... But I got scallions and fish roe and lettuce.. That is absolutely not traditional (think sac and save if youre also from Hawaii!and is very disappointing that you didnt just give me what I asked for. 😔It was 30 in all for delivery ect and it was just ok so for me, a waste of money.
Used the kiosk to make my order - low stress seeing as it was my first time. Absolutely delicious food, looking forward to going again and trying some different sauces!
Too many times my order has been missing toppings or included toppings I did not order. Youre probably better off going in person if you want your food to be prepared correctly.
I work next door and have been going to this restaurant since they opened. It’s now at the point after raising prices that it doesn’t make sense to get 7 peices of fish in a large bowl for 16 dollars. Quality is still good however portions have taken such a hit that I do not believe this location is worth the money.
Obsessed with the poke from here. I order a lot, but that has also made me realize sometimes the poke bowls are not consistent. Most the time they’re great! But a few times the Mayo would be missing or a bad avocado piece was included.
Rude employee. I came in for a treat and came out feeling very sorry for whoever has to work with that girl. Yells at her coworkers, has attitude towards customers, overall bad energy. If you see a short black girl up front dont ruin ur day and avoid this place. Very rude.
I went here to get food and immediately noticed an employee publicly embarrassing as well as being extremely rude to other employees. It made my experience extremely awkward as someone who has started out at a food place no one should ever be treated as less then especially not the way that girl who I assume was the manager was treating the rest. I will not be coming back here due to the attitude of the employee. No one deserves that treatment even less so for a minimum wage job. Id highly suggest more friendly managers or at least some that will respect others.
Usually I have a pretty positive experience here, but lately Ive been getting undercooked rice and less protein than I ordered. Its clear that most of the people working there are great, but enough of them really arent taking it seriously.
So easy to order, in a style not unlike ordering at Chipotle or Subway. The Hawaiian bowl is delicious. Reasonably priced, too!
Pricey, the food is decent, reminded me of Chipotle or Qdoba but no beans or tomatoes, tofu, cucumbers and dried toppings like crunchy onions (that gave me heartburnor rice puffs instead, otherwise pretty much the same, just twice more expensive.
Great food 90% of the time however recently the food quality has declined. For example, the last time that I was here they did not add any sauces to the bowls nor did they add any tofu or scallions to the miso soup.I feel as though the pokemoto on Chapel is far better so go there instead
Love the options and ingredients here; I come here regularly. And staff is always really friendly! I think the freshness of the tuna has been declining in quality since when I first started coming here, so I’d like to see that improved. Also, the tipping options at checkout are like, 2%, 5%, and 10% which feels pretty low. At least have a 15%? 5% as the lowest is pretty low.
This is the second Hawaiian Poke Restaurant I have tried. This is good food. I had the Sweet and Spicy Shrimp Poke with Brown Rice. There wasnt much sweet and the spicy was.perfect for a cold, windy day. I will definitely be back!
Have enjoyed going to this place several times this year however lately they have been understaffed and the ingredients the last time we went we’re not as fresh as previous visits. Still, a relatively healthy option for lunch or dinner, lots of choices and friendly staff. They need to hire more staff and pay attention to quality to keep this a good option.
Gather round and let me tell you about my amazing experiences with this magnificent group. Ive been a regular patron on my own, but I also have the wonderful experience of using Pokemoto for catering for my job. I wish I could give them 20 stars for their service. Thom and his team are exemplary . My catering orders are always correct, and usually 10 minutes earlier than the time requested. Recently (todayI had actually confirmed an incorrect date, which Thom graciously caught and corrected effortlessly. My order was still correct AND on time, despite my own error. This place is fantastic, and Thom and his team are fantastic to work with.
I LOOOOOOVE Pokemoto but am so incredibly disappointed at their new portions!! literally just got my lunch bowl and it is not even full! - when asked why, the staff said they had just retrained on plating smaller scoops ... considering how much it costs, I will reconsider revisiting this location!
I sure do love a poke bowl. I was smart enough to arrive here around 11:55am instead of a few minutes after noon. I proved myself right a few minutes after arriving when I walked out with my beautiful poke salad and passed right by the line that was now out the door. Be mindful of this on a weekday.
The poke options are typical. Tuna, salmon, tofu, chicken, etc. Sauce options galore and items which I have to ask about because I have no clue what they are. But no matter, the toppings are free and basically unlimited so its the perfect opportunity to try everything. The regular sized bowl is more than enough, even with a salad base instead of the more filling rice option, I had trouble finishing it.
Busy place but the line seems to move very quickly. Each item is made to order and fish has been very fresh every time. Its a pretty awesome place to grab a quick meal.
This is always my go to!!!! It isn’t on Snackpass like pokelicious but honestly it’s like 1000x better so totally worth it. The staff is so friendly and everything is really fresh. One girl named Veronica (I think sorry if I spelled it wrong!was SO nice and she definitely deserves some kind of promotion. 11/10 would recommend!! In the photo the toppings look squished but that’s only because I really went ham on the mango lol
My wife and I came here for a late lunch and had a great experience. I’ve never had Poke before, but it is really good...I got the regular size Hawaiian bowl and it was excellent! Very filling, and super tasty! The staff is super friendly too.We will absolutely be back for more!
Delicious combinations and fresh ingredients. Recommend the Hawaiian bowl!
Great flavor, fantastic service, decent portions. Loved it!!
Great quality. Delicious. Wish there were a few more options for toppings.
This was my first time visiting and it was different from anything I had ever had. Kind of a blend between a Chipolte and a sushi bar. There are several protein choices, salmon, tuna, chicken and shrimp, which can be combined in a salad, rice bowl, or a burrito , then mixed choices of chopped vegetables, nuts and different fruits. The end result was a customized delicious dish. Like I said, Its different than anything Ive had before, but worth a try.
Tuna and salmon rice bowl with delicious toppings of your choice. I dont know what they do to the rice to make it so good. Once you try it, you will be back. The pineapple dole whip is really good if you like pineapple.
Wish more places like this were around my area. Loved seeing the giant vat (genuine Japanese rice cookerof white and especially brown rice. All the flavorings were excellent, you really cant go wrong. If you want more protein add the kani salad. The avocados were ripened to perfection. The spicy dishes were somewhat infused with heat, but were delish. Before ordering, make sure to peruse all the fab toppings intently (missed a few that would have accompanied my dish), there is an up-charge for just a few but the rest were included...if you choose. The miso salmon was most enjoyable especially with added seaweed & kani salad, edamame, and nori. The finale of garlic chips were a nice dimensional crunch. Highly recommend for vegetarians as most of the toppings were geared to that dietary need.
I <3 Pokemoto! I tried my first poke bowl here, and there was a mixup due to a mistake on the part of an Uber Eats delivery driver. I called Pokemoto and the manager not only replaced it with the correct order quickly, but also included pineapple dole whip for my troubles!
As of May 2018, New Haven has two Poke places - 6 months ago there were none. The concept is great -variety within a simple framework. This has become my go-to for a quick, healthy meal. It can get crowded - a testament to their quality.
I get it. It’s hip, it’s healthy, it’s trendy, and it’s the only poke place in town. Food was okay but nowhere near five stars. Rice was a little undercooked and the amount of dressing the server added for me didn’t give the bowl enough flavor. Miso soup was also quite mediocre, not much different from supermarket instant miso soup. Portion sizes are good. New Haven residents need to up the standards man.
I had the Hawaiian poke bowl and the miso soup and they were both delicious.
The idea of being able to build your own healthy meal selecting rice, proteins, mixing and sauces is so awesome! I am actually hooked on the food but today I decided to give my review on the actual service and staff hoping the manager will see this.I get a poke bowl at least once a week for the last two months and every time there is a new person training which is fine. The bad thing is the new trainee happens to be the happiest nicest person there if you ask me. The seasoned staff members are just not nice to order from especially today. Today the line was almost outside the entrance/exit door and the staff just appeared frustrated that we were all there. It was the weirdest feeling to be the person ordering. Also getting home My shrimp didn’t have that crunch or bite to it like it usually doesn’t and tasted watery like it didn’t go through it’s normal defrosting process. Today I just didn’t feel like an appropriated customer and this has been happening for sometime now. I know I’m not the only one.
Good mixes of hot and cold, soft and crunchy. All your favorite things about sushi combined into a salad. You can add what you want! Fish is fresh and sauces are flavorful.
