Bangladeshi fare, with many vegetarian options & lunch buffet, in simple, strip-mall setting. BYOB.
I just read that you’ve closed.I’m so very sorry. You gave us all so much joy and happiness over the years, and I’m crying as I write these words, sad that it must end but also tears of happy remembrance of all the times I was welcomed into your beautiful place of glorious food and warm friendship.I’ve included a photo of just one of the many wonderful times shared by my friends and I at your restaurant. It was my 50th birthday. You helped make it perfect.I fervently hope that we may see you again sometime, because you are dear to me and countless others.Thank you all, each of you, for the special joys you brought to me and so many others.
Everything was delicious, very clean And fresh. The owner was super nice and helpful. Staff was very professional and friendly But most importantly the taste was like none I’ve ever had. Definitely going back.
What happened to Panahar? I was a resident of Atlanta 6 years back and frequented this restaurant. The owner used to personally come to each table and ask about the food. The food was excellent as well. Today I was utterly disappointed as I went back to Panahar, nostalgic with the old memories. We were the only ones dining in. We ordered biriyani which looked and tasted like khichudi. Meat was underdone. Its just sad.
This evening I wanted Indian food for dinner so I decided to try this place out. I ordered through Grubhub but the restaurant uses their own drivers which is fine. I ordered garlic nan and a shrimp dish. I received my order early but it was incorrect! They gave me what looked like tofu instead of shrimp. I contacted Grubhub and they called the restaurant but they refused to send me my correct order. Grubhub offered me my refund instead which will take a ridiculous 5 days to be back in my account. The rice had big chunks of cinnamon sticks which wasn’t appealing at all. I will never order from this restaurant again or even eat here.
This place is amazing. The food is delicious, fresh, and you can taste the passion they have for delivering a stellar product.I have been here many times over the last 15 years and realized I never left a review. We visited later in the evening on Saturday and were able to get a table. The place was pretty busy and we were lucky to get a table. We ordered chicken tikka masala, plain nan, lentil soup, and mango lassi. Everything was absolutely delicious, fresh, and flavorful.Service was decent, there were a couple of servers working.Parking was plentiful and free.Absolutely delicious!
Some of the most consistently delicious dishes Ive ever had. Ive been coming here for many years and there is no other Indian or Bangladeshi restaurant that comes close to taste. I highly recommend this place for its amazing food and dining experience.
We have been coming here for the better part of a decade. It’s been great food and I used to rate it as one of the best in atlanta.Of late the quality and service has just done down hill in a big way. Today it was just abysmal. There were no labels in the buffet, my spouse ended eating meat because of it (she’s vegetarian). Plus the food was barely passable as flavorful. The deserts were terrible, the gulab jamun was undercooked, the rice pudding (kheerwas bland! Service slow and barely existent.I can no longer recommend this place.
Updated review: I used to eat and or order from here faithfully, at least 1x a week. I took a year off from eating here and recently came back to order 1 of my usuals along with something new (from this place, but not new to my palette). The shrimp Daashang was still good, but not nearly as spicy as it used to be and i ordered the Lamb Bhuna which was absolutely disgusting. The meat was so tough, flavor wasn’t up to par, it had 1 slice of vegetable, i threw the whole meal away, wasting money. When i order this dish from other places the meat is always so tender with several mixed vegetables. The wait time to order and receive the food took some time. Needless to say, i don’t believe this is my go to, highly recommended place to go.Initial review: nice staff, food comes out fairly fast, made hot to order, offers nice discounts. I love the chicken Korma and mixed naan. I wasnt the biggest fan of the chicken tikka massla as Ive had it from several other places both in America and overseas, but it wasnt terrible.
Shaag is delicious, always. I like to get the goat and lamb on the menu because it’s hard to find at other places. I asked about a coconut curry and they had some great suggestions. Food is always on point!!
Nothing tasted even a bit like Bangladeshi food. Most of the food are not even Bangladeshi instead Indian. The rice pudding was disgusting and the goat bhuna did not even have enough meat, mostly the bones. The service was very bad. Felt like we were being ignored just because we were Bangladeshi and not American.
Traveled a ways to go here based on great reviews for lunch buffet. Really small place and buffet. Limited selection and bland. Nothing labeled. Many options out. B health rating (so, not great, not terriblewas surprising given the state of the place (super dated). Food wasn’t terrible but was like airport quality food. Won’t be back.
AVOID DELIVERY. It took 138 minutes to get my food. I ordered through grubhub. they estimated a 60-70 minute delivery time frame. It took Panahar 138 minutes from my order to deliver lukewarm food. They never contacted me about the delay. and they refused to admit poor service. I pre-tipped $10 for this terrible service and they wouldnt refund any of it.
Great lunch place. For $10 buffet one gets a sample of the food. Both meat, vegetarian and some vegan options. One of the best deals in town. No, not everything is spice not hot.
DO NOT EAT FROM THIS PLACE! The food is bland and they use HUGE pieces of chicken thats likely full of hormones and antibiotics. The rice was also unseasoned. I tried them twice after thinking that maybe the first time was a mistake but nope it was consistent. The most flavorful thing was the sauce and thats an overstatement. Once again, dont eat here. There are much better Indian places around for the same price or just slightly higher but I would much rather pay an extra dollar or 2 for better food (Cafe Bombay, Ruchi, Monsoon Masala, etc).
Bug by buffet! As I was getting another plate of food I saw a little roach crawling towards the food on the buffet. I immediately pointed it out to the host who got a napkin and tried to squash it but missed. We dont know where it went. The host said they had just sprayed yesterday. I asked to talk to a manager and he said no one was there. I left my number for someone to call me when they returned and no one called. I used to love this place, but of course this experience scares me from ever going back. :(
Been eating here since 14 and would happily imbibe my weight in halim. The lamb achar is tasty too, and you just cant beat the prices (especially inside the perimeter atlanta. The folks disparaging the appearance/interior of the restaurant must get their nutrition from curtains and wood paneling apparently, but this patron prefers the attention/quality to go to the actual food, thanks!
Do not order food from this business. I placed an order from GrubHub and eta was 60 min. No one showed up so I called the restaurant. They said someone would be there in 10 min. 20 min later I cancel the order, the guy from the restaurant shows up at my gate & tells me I need to re-order the same thing for him to bring me the food. It has now been 2 hours since I placed the order & I couldnt even get the food as a kind gesture!!!! Thats bad business and they just lost a frequent customer.
Ordered through grub hub for my birthday treat. Very disappointing. Asked for chicken vindaloo extra hot with extra potatoes. What I got was a tastless sauce (not vindaloowith a ridiculous amount of cayenne pepper added to it. Almost inedible. And instead of extra potatoes there were barely any. Will NEVER order from here again. Happy birthday to me.....NOT...
Ive been to several Indian, Bangladeshi, and Nepali restaurants in Atlanta however this is by far the blandest food Ive had. Perhaps it was an off day for the cook but we went in for the buffet on a Sunday which is when they should be expecting a big crowd. Everything needed salt or taste like it was missing all sorts of masalas/spices. The dated decor does not help the ambiance either. I would honestly be okay if I never go back. Giving it 2 stars as the wait staff was very attentive.
My boyfriend and I love this place! My boyfriend who is from India admits this is some of the best Indian food in town. Service is always quick and while it doesnt serve alcohol, you can bring your own. It is reasonably priced as well.
Great place for lunch as they have a $9.99 buffet! Friendly staff and great food. Small, cozy setting and they also have ability to combine tables for large office parties. Their Chicken Rezala is worth the visit! Give them a try, you wont regret having lunch or dinner at this restaurant.
Yall better come and eat this food. Best Bangladeshi place ever! You can even bring your own wine and they will cork and pour. Very unassuming, but a powerhouse in the southeast Asian market. Eat there! You will not be sorry :0).
Good bengali food in Atlanta!!We ordered goat biriyani and aloo phulkori (It comes with basmati rice), both tastes really good. We will be back soon to try the lunch buffet.
I love Panahar. Its the only place I meet one of my friends. We enjoy their buffet. The food is healthy. If youre a vegetarian youll have plenty to eat.
Dined here on 7-9-2017. Ordered off of the menu, did not have buffet, although it did look and smell divine. The staff were excellent, Ripon took good care of us, and I made a friend. Will definitely make many visits back here.
Me and my wife totally loved this restaurant. Amazingly delicious food at a very reasonable price. Foods taste like authentic Bangladeshi (not Indian). Service was excellent. I will definitely go there again during my next visit to Atlanta.
Omg!!!! I have never in my life tasted food so good! Im a very picky eater so that says alot. Supreme customer service! Also Id like to point out that the food that is served here is homemade curry dishes. Most places Ive been to you can tell each meal is just leftovers from the buffet. But you literally can taste the effort and detail in the food. I know i sound like a food fanatic but I gotta tell ya. Once you try the spicy chicken Korma you will understand!
Authentic! I love this place the food is fresh to order! I take everyone I know there when Im in town! They also have a lunch buffet which is great to try if youve never been there before. Its a little of everything on the menu
Wonderful. The food was EXCELLENT. The garlic naan was perfect. The vindaloo was great and my friend had a dish which name escapes me, but it was delicious also. I cannot fully comment on the service as I opted to take my order to go because it was about 45 min before close. Nevertheless, I will be returning.
WOW! Great lunch buffet with plenty of richly flavored vegetarian options. Also got an appetizer of Puri shrimp - as delicious as it was beautiful. Staff was delightful! Convenient location to AT&T Lenox campus. I will bring many others back.
I have been there for lunch buffet. That was simple ordinary one like any other *indian* restaurant (this is not an indian restaurant actually, they are bangladeshi, however the cuisine of both the countries are pretty much alike. But we ordered kachhi biriyani and that was good. Besides, the people were quite friendly and good. Knowing that we also speak in bangla, they offered us some house made gourmet mango pickle .
I would like to just say that if you are looking for Authentic food with a relaxed ambiance this is the place! Thanks to the staff for the excellent service and the cook for the delicious food. Try the lamb chops it is the best! My family and I will definitely be back. This restaurant is a hidden gem on Buford Hwy!
The lunch buffet (11:30-2:30was really delicious. LOVED all the vegetable options-- often lacking at many Bangladeshi places. Also, the red-hot sauce--some home-made concoction of spices with just enough heat, and a lot of flavor, is excellent.Between here, and Purnima, this is the winner.
Love the food here! For a time they must have had their regular chef out on vacation or sick but things have come back to what I have always loved. They have the best Naan bread and I have eaten from a lot of different Indian restaurants and only found one that came close.I know the food is good if even my son the "meatatarian" asks for more Spinach.Great food, great service and good priced buffet. The dinner service can sometimes be a bit slow but Ive never waited too long for service.
Good food, good service. The cream sauces are a bit heavy. Would be a 5 if they lightened then up a bit. Otherwise, we have been here quite a bit and will continue to come back. Im just trying to avoid the heavy cream dishes.
I used to go here a lot before I moved- always for dinner and it was phenomenal. When I moved back to Atlanta, I went with a friend for the lunch buffet. It was still good but definitely the ordered plates are preferable.
We visited Panahar Friday night (7/15/2016). For Bangladeshi cuisine, we usually go to Purnima, which has never disappointed us, on food or service. Unfortunately Purnima was closed Friday. We have eaten at Panahar before, but that was at their lunch buffet, which was good and not exceptional. Buffet by nature excludes much of one of the most critical pieces of a good restaurants success, (i.e. serviceand this was sadly magnified when we visited Friday. We were seated quickly enough, and a sour looking server, who tended to yell like he wanted everyone to hear what we wanted walked over. We ordered the pakora, because we had sampled their samosas before and didnt like them. The server was almost indignant when we asked for more time to decide our entree options, and never came back to check in at all! We had to wave another server over, who then sent our original server back to us. You could almost think he was walking the green mile, when he came back over to ask us what we wanted. We placed our order, and he literally took 5 minutes to write it down, while standing inches from us. Then he YELLED out our entree requests like he wanted the kitchen to hear them from where we were seated. We waited for close to an hour for our food, whilst being treated to other tables whining about the quality of service. We agreed with them. Server came in 55 mins into wait with our breads, and raita ... NO ENTREES! Bread sat there getting cold while we waited for the rest of our food.Food came out close to 10:15PM (We had been seated at 8:45). We ordered lamb tikka masala, and shrimp vindaloo. Lamb undercooked and tough, sauce too sweet, Shrimp vindaloo was ok, but I have eaten better vindaloo at almost every other restaurant in Atlanta, and Indian food is generally poor in this city.We eventually asked for our check and waited another 15 minutes before paying at the receiving counter, and getting the heck out of the place, hopefully never to return.
Ordered from that place yesterday and got sick. Asked them for something authentic and the food was no where near authentic Bangaladeshi cuisine. Be aware dont take their meat pickled curry unless you want to suffer the next day.
How in the hell did this place get such good reviews? I just drove 17min to get here. Its loud and crowded because its such a small place. They allow BYOB so there is a big group of loud drunk ppl Its been over 15min and I still dont have a server. 1star! Its full of white ppl never a good sign for ethnic restaurants. The server finally came was apologetic for being so late. Once he realized its going to be over 35min before I get any food he brought me out some Dates to help me break fast. Up to 2 star! ... food review to come.
Good restaurant. The buffet (9.9 usdis a great value for the price. Have all the standard Indian recipes. The dessert section is ordinary though. They do not have gulab jammun or any standard sweets. As far as I remember they have only rice pudding and some fruit .
I use to love this place. It hurts me to give it such a poor review. Not only was it some of the worst Indian food Ive ever had it was some of the worst food Ive ever eaten. Everything was atrocious. I was going to buy the lunch coupon to save money but its not worth it. Absolutely terrible. The one good thing is the people could not have been nicer. so sorry such a fine establishment, has fallen so far. the bland and overcooked buffet should be avoided if possible.
What can I say... I love Panahar. I go at least once a week to get some of their delicious food. In addition to the great food Panahars staff is very attentive and eager to help you discover new dishes. My wife and I have been to almost every Indian / Bangladeshi restaurant in Atlanta and we agree that Panahar is the best.
Ive only ever been here for the lunch buffet (and only on weekdays at thatbut the easy to get to location and delicious food have me coming back over and over. The lunch buffet usually features 4 meat dishes and 4 veggie dishes along with rice, naan, and soup (halim!!). There is also an assortment of chutneys and sauces available, my favorite being the cool yogurt sauce. There is always a tandoori chicken and simple cauliflower dish available for those with less adventurous tastes and Ive never had anything that Id consider spicy without personally adding the chili chutney... Im also a big fan of the spiced iced tea, which is delivered unsweetened.
Small, family owned restaurant with great food! I went there for the first time and had the Chicken Biriyani. It was VERY good, and so was the yogurt that you put on top. I will definitely visit again.
Everything about my experience was good. Waiters were on top of their game, food was quick (even for our party of nineand delicious, and the prices were very reasonable. Ill definitely be going back.
Ive been to Panahar half a dozen times, and each experience is more pleasant than the last. The food is always delicious, the wait staff helpful and friendly, and the atmosphere relaxed. Whether you bring a date or a party of friends, prepare to be hooked. I cant recommend Panahar highly enough!
I went with a party of 10 on a weeknight. Make sure to make reservations on fri, sat, and sundays otherwise you will have to wait quite a while before you get a table. The service was great and the staff was very helpful. The food was delicious and I recommend this place to anyone. Very tasty dishes. You can probably get by sharing a single dish between two people if you dont eat too much. We were expecting out bill to be outrageous but it turned out to be about $12-14 dollars per person. Awesome place, small but intimate.
We had the Korma and Teeka, with a spinach dish (dont remember the name now). All were very good, though a little more mild than I expected. The seasoned rice with raisins and almonds was also great. We went on a Friday night and they said they recommend making reservations, though we didnt have much of a wait.
My family recently ate at Panahar for lunch. We all had the buffet and it was very delicious. The server explained all the food to us and suggested sauce pairings. They kept our drinks full and took the dirty plates away quickly. I was very full and satisfied after just one plate! We will return for sure!
A friend clued me in to this place after Id been unknowingly living in the area for a whole year. Amazing! We went for dinner on a Friday night, and the wait was 45 minutes. We waited. It was worth it.Yes, the lines can be long (thats why the owner strongly encourages making reservations!). However, thats more of a testament to the service than anything else. Despite the reasonable prices, this is the kind of place where they will *never* rush you through dinner. As far as the waitstaff is concerned, theyre there to allow the people currently dining to have as comfortable and enjoyable of a meal as possible. When a table frees up, one of those people becomes you, but they categorically seem to reject pushing anyone out the door just to get another meal sold. Two forks up: if more places were run like this, the world would be a better place!
