Unpretentious, family-run eatery specializing in Southern-style seafood, plus steaks & sandwiches.
Gross bland food. No flavor at all.
The food was really great first time going there
The best seafood around. Great portion size.
We will not be dining here again. The food is ok but they have no regard for their own posted hours of operation. Too many times now we have not been seated due to them saying that they are closed. This has happened 3 of the last 4 times we have been and a total of 6 times. Its a 40 minute drive that I will not be making again. I recommend, if you go here, to be more than a hour before closing, have a back up plan, and call ahead to see if they will be open. Their post hours are incorrect both online and on the restaurant door
This evening was our first time going and guys when I tell you the Kennesaw Oysters was the only good thing we ate.No kizzy!!The food is BLAND to the point it made me and my husband sick!! The seafood (Tilapia, shrimp, & scallopswere disgusting. There’s some kind of strange taste even with salt & pepper plus hot sauce.Save your money people.
Read entire review please...I did not dislike the food... awesome as always... but we checked the hours, called to make sure they were correct but the weds night we got there just before 7 . Told they close at 9 but as we were ordering my daughters birthday dinner we were told the kitchen is closing at 7:30. We normally come eat dome oysters then a meal and if we still want more we order oysters again. Could not do it this night. So please check the times when you get there so you know what to order and how quick you have to. Very disappointed.
Great service. Food is excellent. Raw or roasted Oysters. Yummy! Try the Snapper. Its delicious.I have been here several times and always had a great lunch or dinner.
Large spacious dining area. Customer service ok. Food quality somewhat lacking in taste and flavor. It was more like a glorified Captain Ds instead of a quality seafood restaurant. All restaurants cant be Pappadeaux however there is a niche I hope they find, the place has potential if they can find it
Just to let everyone know the hours have changed they close at 8 and shut the kitchen down at 7:30. Great Oysters and Jumbo Shrimp go hungry they know how to cook seafood.
Wow, I’ve never had such bland tasteless food. Everything was fried and it was clear they don’t season their mix. Every seafood item tasted the exact same, with no flavor. Not to mention the restaurant really has no identity. Save your money and don’t eat here!
Drove to Acworth as soon as traffic cleared only to discover their kitchen closes at 7:30! So disappointed. Had heard great things but we will NOT be going back.
Shrimp tasted like rubber and catfish was breaded badly. The fish also had pond water taste which I guess is fresh but I couldnt get past the pond water taste. I have tasted way better. I dont know why people eat there...I am scared to taste the oysters...Is it out the can?
Was disappointed, really wanted tasty fried oysters that were bland. Wifes broiled tilapia we couldnt even eat. Great atmosphere and dining inside. Just probably wont be back. Fried calamari appetizer was great.
Seems like the quality of the food has gone down since the last time we were there. Its just average food.
Food was pretty good, staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming.
Must try the baked potato. Only available after 5 while they last. Great service too. Food comes out quick. I rarely eat fried food but the fried shrimp is awesome.
Great fried shrimp. Only wish they carried remoulade sauce.
Ordered calamari , flounder , baked potatoes , and oysters . The food had no flavor. The salad had one 🍅 and nothing else, basically a bowl of lettuce. The oysters had no flavor , the fish was half cooked. They serve the food on plain white plates with no dazzle or a hint of parsley or a dash of Mrs. Dash...bring your seasoning from home because it says cajun spices but cant taste any.. Make sure your dentures , crowns and implants are Set ...cause them calamari was chewy .
First visit and cant wait to go back! Friends have talked about the Oyster Cafe for months, and since we all have birthdays soon we decided itd be the perfect spot to celebrate. Easy access from 41 with lots of parking. We went on a Tuesday at 6:30 and it wasnt crowded. Several couples, 2 medium parties, and one very large party. I was first to arrive and seated right away. Waitress met me at the table to get my drink order. They had a good selection of beer and cocktails. As my party arrived the server was right there, quick with drinks. We ordered 1/2 dozen raw oysters, three of us had the fried shrimp, one had the seasoned fish, and another the platter. The shrimp were large, cleaned but not butterflied, and lightly battered. The batter was buttery flaky, golden, and I recommend going for the dozen. They were so delicious I couldve eaten a whole nother order had I had any room. The portions of everything were excellent. We had heard about the fried rice as a side, so most of us ordered that and the slaw. Im very picky about slaw and it was the first thing I ate. Like the tartar, it had the smallest hint of horseradish. A friend ordered the hushpuppies and shared. Delicious. Our whole party agreed we would add the Oyster Cafe to our list for future return visit. Excellent food and service at a reasonable price.
The best baked Oysters! Great service. Fast delivery of food. The place looks kind of old but look past it. Go there. You will love the food.
The best fried shrimp in 100 miles.Glad they are back and open. This is not “red lobster” style seafood, it’s more organic and certainly more naturally flavored food. I find it fantastic, and the atmosphere matches the authentic flavors.
Oyster goodness! I LOVED the food here. The ambiance is simple and plain but the customer service and food was 5 star! Myles had a great smile and happy disposition about him. Food came very fast! EVERYTHING tasted amazingly good. I will definitely be back.
The food was great they just cooked my calamari too long it was chewy my oysters where on time and good.
Some of the best fried shrimp Ive had. My family and I have been visiting this place since it was the Oyster King and in the old Huddle house building. One of our favorites.
I really wanted to like this place but was highly disappointed. The baked oysters came out close to room temperature and were not tasty. I ordered the shrimp and whiting. The shrimp was decent as was the coleslaw and hush puppies but the fish had no taste at all. My husband and I agreed that we would likely not return.
Pricey but well worth it. This was my prebirthday lunch! Id definitely go here again! The shrimp was fresh and delicious, fries on point, and the fish??? Ahh- may--zing (amazing)!!! I HIGHLY recommend this place!!
A delicious dinner with our family. Everyone enjoyed their seafood from appetizers to main dishes. We even enjoyed key lime pie.
Service was perfect. Food not that great. It was fresh but no flavor. It may be this consumer who comes from the coast of FL and expects too much.
Went there with the wife last summer (just found this on Googleand as we’re eating our meal I noticed a freaking fly 🪰 in my tea!I showed it to the waiter and he acted like it was no big deal, and brought another tea over.I had lost my appetite!Still paid for both meals!Haven’t returned there yet! Probably never will again!
Food was overcooked, overly greasy, and just plain bad. Service was even worse. Had to track down the staff to get refills. Then in the end they bring me my bill, upon bring it back, the price of the meal had changed. When asked they said they forgot to charge me for something but no explanation as to what.Won’t be back and would suggest you skip it as well.
Spacious, dark lighting inside,, ordered the fried shrimp and the seafood platter. Clam chowder soup was good, nice portion size, friendly staff. Lacks ambiance, has TVs, but really no either decor,, very plain inside. Would return again.
Being a loyal customer since 1980. Will keep traveling to come eat the very best food in the South!! Sunny is amazing and so strong. I admire her so much. Look forward to my next visit!Yall take care and continue to stay safe!Love, Harriet Banks....ya know me!!
Food and service were great. I had the fried oysters and my wife had the catfish. Portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. We will be eating here again.
Excellent service, food quality and quantity is amazing!
Service was exceptional and food was delicious. We all had a wonderful time.
This awesome eatery is 25 or so miles from my home and worth every mile to get their signature oysters. Closed on Mondays, any other day will afford any diner, plates full of fried ( never greasyoysters, shrimp, catfish, french fries, the best coleslaw, hush puppies, and other regionally recognized seafood items. I cant rave enough about their oysters. They are always presoaked in milk, dredged in their proprietary blend of flours, these plump large bivalves are fried to an exact minute in the exact oil temperature each and every time to produce the best oyster I have ever eaten. I couldnt understand why anyone would get shrimp until I tried them. Boy howdy!! They were also treated like the oysters. And their catfish too, which you can order as a whole fish or filet. At this time. the restaurant is practicing spacing diners more than 6 feet apart and providing individual dished of condiments if you want them. Nothing on the tables. Handicap accessible, and a deal for lunch. Just do it! You can thank me later.
Expensive... good tasting salmon, great rice, ok salad... friend loves their fried oysters and shrimp! Frozen veggies with no seasoning..home.made tarter sauce was great
Wanted fish and finally decided to give Oyster Cafe a shot. I wont be going back there. It was a waste of $75.I had the salmon. I love salmon and this was the worst Ive ever had. It was extremely dry and pretty much tasteless. My wife had the grouper and said it was basically the same. The Oyster Special appetizer was mediocre, but had so little taste I might as well have just ordered basic oysters on the half shell. My kids had a burger and a Philly steak. No complaints from them. I tried the Philly and it was fairly good. Their french fries were tasteless though. On a bright note, the baked potato I had with my salmon was cooked perfectly and I enjoyed it. Im sure the house salads would have been nice too, but they left those out of my order after charging me an extra $4 for them.Honestly, I think Id rather just go to Long John Silvers. Its cheaper and taste better.
Oyster po boy, shrimp fried rice, peanut butter pie= $18 and change. No eating utensils in the box after being told they would be in there. Disappointed in the price paid and the amount/ presentation if the food. 1st time, may be my last.
Really nice inside. Food was good... I got oysters and scallops which were really good but a little more breading than I prefer... easy to take off though. A little pricey but overall really good. Would definitely eat here again
The oysters were A HUGE let down. Barely the size of a quarter. Shrimp taste like grease with no flavor. The clam chowder had very little taste. I would not go back.
Clean, decent food. Just really unimpressive. Fried scallops and the hush puppies were super bland. Im not sure this place has discovered seasoning yet. The food wasnt bad. Just really plain and basic. Fried oysters we about the same. Zero seasoning
I was craving oysters so my friend and I stopped in for a quick snack and a couple drinks. Walking into the restaurant, it seems to have a good ombiance but once you get settled at a table that all changes. They have cheap tables and chairs and you can see inside their freezer that is unorganized and dirty looking. Our waitress was very rude in delivering the news they had no oysters and insisted we hurry up and order something else. We had a beer to be on the safe side and the fried shrimp that everyone raves about in past reviews. Maybe they were having an off day. The shrimp was over battered and tasted like grease.
My wife and I drove by this place for years and finally decided to give it a shot. The interior was much nicer than we expected. However, we were sat at a table next to the glass door cooler. Half of it showcased their beers while the other half revealed stacks of fruit and other strangely stored food items. We both ordered drinks and large meals. Ironically, they didnt have oysters. Initially our food appeared decent; pretty much what you would expect from fried seafood. That was until we used our silverware which left our food tasting like chemicals. Acetone I think? When we told our waitress, she stomped off and came back with a bill which she silently tossed on the table. No apologies, nothing. She only charged us for our drinks. We left cash with a very generous tip just to avoid additional interaction with her.The restaurant had a nice size crowd, a lot of which were older. This leads me to believe that it was a great place to eat at some point and then taken over by someone of different standards. My advice... Stay away.
The staff is great but ownership is TERRIBLE! They couldnt care less if your take out order is swimming in grease to the point that all breading has fallen off. The response I got from the owner was that they had "already given it to me" and that no one else had said anything. Really? Were there other customers in my to go box? I USED to go there 3 to 4 times per week and had been sharing with friends and family that they had reopened, trying to support a local business. However, when ownership has no more respect for the concern of a guest, I chose to spend my money elsewhere. It could have been an easy fix. Oh well.
Food was excellent. If you like Tempura Batter on seafood this is your place. Seafood was very fresh. Missed the hushpuppies. Dessert was excellent and service was great. Definitely suggest this location.
Best oysters in cobb county for past 20 yrs
Listen folks, you have to know what youre getting into here. Where I grew up, we would have called this place a "fish camp." Its simple seafood served grilled, fried, or blackened. No frills, no thrills. Except in this case, its run by a Chinese lady and her family so there is fried rice on the menu and Chinese game shows on the TV...its a funky fusion, but it works. The fried shrimp are wonderful and even though we are 5 hours from the coast, all the seafood tastes fresh. It is what it is...and it succeeds. And just to address the gentleman who felt that the restaurant is racist, the cooks are Mexican for the most part, the wait staff are ethnically diverse, and the kitchen would have no way of knowing what color the skin was of the person for whom they were preparing the meal. Maybe give them another shot. When Im in the mood for fried seafood, hush puppies, and slaw, this is where I come.
Ive been eating here since it was an old waffle house building, loved it then and still do. The fried shrimp is best you can get this far from the actual beach.
Some of the food was good, to me, the fish had very little flavor. The atmosphere was pretty dry, leaving a very awkward feeling. The thing that saves this places was the shrimp. It was very good.
