Nice historic place with a lot of animals. If you want to meditate or a piece of mind this is definitely Park you want to check out.

Please watch out for the gopher wholes because I stepped in one and broke my foot...but the farm itself is pretty awesome 😍

The grandaughter loved feeding the chickens. But there used to be a petting zoo there years ago. Disappointed 😞 that it is no longer there.

Hidden gem! Only 15 minutes from DC/Alexandria, yet a world away. Very impressed by the friendly and knowledgeable NPS staff, particularly Craig who gave an excellent tour of the farm.

First time visit today. We had the place to ourselves. The gentleman in the book store was very friendly and knowledgeable. Lots of wildlife, too. Groundhogs, raccoons and big turkeys! A great day, even with moody 12 year-olds😁

Five stars if youre looking for a country venue in the city, three stars if youre taking kids to a park but there is picnic eating area and you can see the highway if youre interested lol

Great picnic areas with tables and grills available. Recommend close toed shoes and plenty of water.

This is a great little national park site. It was not listed in my book. I learned about it from a volunteer worker at Fort Washington. A lot of school kids from the Washington DC area are school bussed there. The rangers told me for many of them this was the first time to visit a national park or even a farm with chickens. Cows horses and hogs. The rangers were very nice and helpful to everyone.

The most peaceful place ✨the animals seem happy hereAll of the parents communicated to not touch or harass the animals, which was nice, particularly for the chickens. The chickens are out and about so it’s nice they don’t have to feel vulnerable around people.There are two trails here. They’re easy to follow with bright tree markings and there were kids on them, so they can’t be too serious. There were cows, horses, pigs, a rooster, chickens in the farm area, as well as vultures on the trail.There’s are two picnic areas, one has a grill. There’s a shop as well.

Great family outing. The staff was very engaging and the kids loved it. They are very upfront about the history of this farm which I appreciated seeing throughout the farm.

Lovely spot for a break from the road. Only about 5 minutes from the Interstate, but brings you back 100 years in time.

Its close to alexandria virginia, easy parking and has some farm equipment and animals for kids to see. Overall good for kids and families.

Its been about 20 years since I have been here. I spent a lot of time here working with my dad rehabilitating and transforming a few buildings there into what they are Today. My dad was a carpenter for the national park service. Rip pop. Covid has changed things ofcourse no activities involving groups. Beautiful place my kids loved it. Bathrooms are clean grounds taken care of decently. Plenty of Picnic area with grills.

Its a nice scenic location of an old style farm. We saw cows, chickens and one horse but none of the other animals during our visit. This may have been because a severe weather storm was on the way. if you go to their website you can see what activities they have scheduled which may help your visit.

Nice, quiet place ... wish that they had somewhere to purchase cold beverages (on a hot day).

Beautiful but the trails are terribly labeled. I came here to hike with my dog. The farm portion of the park has a no dogs sign, which makes sense given the livestock. So my plan was to circumvent the park using the green trail line shown on Google maps, and follow it all the way down to the water and back up. Well, because nothing is clearly labeled, I ended up on a service road. Trying to get back onto the green trail, I turned off onto a gravel trail that ended up taking me all the way back up through the farm (where I wasnt supposed to go because I had my dog with me). Its just frustrating that I was trying to follow the park rules and be considerate of the farm, but a lack of clear trail signage not only cut my hike significantly short, but also meant I broke the rules anyways.

Not sure what was up when we went on this Saturday morning in June but the only animals we could find were 4 cows in a pen and some chickens roaming the property. No other animals in their stalls nor fields, was pretty bizarre tbh. At least the kid got to run around some.

Just across the Southwest D.C.-Maryland border is a 19th century farm preserved by the National Park Service. Every day, the park ranger opens the gate around 6:30 a.m. and closes it at 5 p.m. All are welcome to visit the farm free of charge. Heres why you should visit:1Museum: Its an interactive museum. As you walk the farms campus, youll read historical markers and go inside almost 200-year-old brick barns. You learn about the farm and the history it witnessed (like being attacked during the War of 1812 or watching Alexandria across the Potomac get captured by the British).2Farm: You can see horses, goats, chickens, hogs and cows on the farm. They offer some farm programming for kids like chicken feedings, tractor rides, etc.3Trails: Beyond the early 19th century farm house is a trail that leads to Oxon Cove and wooded trail with river views. Once at he cove, there are benches, views of Alexandria, picnic tables and a running trail that goes for miles.Oxon Hill Farm is a perfect adventure for the whole family, runners and history buffs.

Great place to go as a family and learn of the history of this location as the owners were eye witness to the burning of Washington DC in the 1800s.Don’t forget to see the goat Aaron and Dominos the sheep.

I loved visiting here--It was the best use of my lunch break Ive had by far. It was beautiful in the nice weather and if Im ever in the area again Id go. Really nice walk, 100% free, and even a small gift center (I did not enter.They have horses pigs cows chickens and more.

This is an awesome place to visit with kids. I took my 2yo there and it was the first time she had seen the farm animals she was learning about. We had a good time getting right up close to the animals. One of our favorite things to do was to roll down the hills there by the main house. Go on a dry day if you dont want to miss out on hill rolling and also because it will be super muddy on a wet day.

If you have young children or even young teenagers, Oxon Hill Animal Farm is definitely a place you want to put at the top of your entertainment list.It is an absolutely beautiful place to get away from the city.You will have a great time if you pack yourself a picnic basket of non-perishable food items or even a cooler. There are a few picnic tables or you could bring a blanket to spread out on the grass. Its a good place if you want to get away from people.Their free parking lot has very few shaded spots so be prepared if its hot outside and be sure to check the forecast. Its a place you can spend the whole day and it doesnt cost anything except your gasoline. You will be able to walk around a beautiful Farm like setting and see wonderful farm animals. They have very clean restrooms, a nice free parking lot and clean Sweet Air to breathe. Perfect for young lovers. My parents took me there when I was a child. When I was a young teenager with no money I would take my new girlfriends. They always loved it when we rolled around in the grass or took a horseback ride. Go there and see for yourself then you will know.

This review is for who is in charge of Oxon Hill Farm, not the farm itself, as well as the National Park Service. It’s clear this place is financially neglected, and the people in charge of this place have little to no respect or reverence for the history of agriculture, farms, or farming in this country, possibly because this is not their background. It’s despicable how little care or concern has been put into this farm. It really is an example of DC politics, and people getting positions because of who they knew rather than being the best candidate.

We enjoy going to this farm with our children! So much to do. Free hay ride, and programs! They get to milk the cows, feed the chickens and pigs for Free! We love it!

Plenty of farm creatures to keep you busy for an early morning or late afternoon. Most activities take place in the morning hours to include milking a cow, feeding chickens, feeding horses, hay ride and a tour through the old houses on the property. Everything is free and the staff is friendly. There is a information office that can double as a small classroom. Plenty of space to park, small walk to get to the farm from the parking lot. The walk way isnt very wheel chair friendly as its all rocks and dirt.

I love taking my kids here. There is so much room for them to run around and play. We 3 cows, a few goats, 2 horses and plenty of roosters and chickens running around. The visitor center has neat stuff to buy and a small area where kids can play and read books. There are walking and biking trails that we havent explored yet but I hear they are very long. I saw a sign that suggest you can fish as well. There is plenty of space for picnics near the parking lot and the bathrooms are pretty clean, there are a few spider webs here and there which is expected, but a lot cleaner than most public restrooms. I you want a great spot to take pictures, this place is great for that.

For a free park, it is not bad at all. Its a historical site which you can learn about more if you want, or you can mind your own business and take a walk in the nature while petting cows and getting chased by roosters. Parking lot closes at 4:30 so not an evening activity.

Need more animals, kids had fun feeding the animals, and coloring pictures. Yes I also had fun watching them run up and the trails. Wish they had snacks.

Very few animals for the children to experience, but the visit was redeemed by the tractor ride, which thankfully made a stop at the parking lot. The staff was very knowledgeable and courteous.

We loved the goats. Set them free around the property and they could keep your fields maintained without using fuel. Focus on sustainability.

Very nice park and walking path free to the public. If you walk further down the path from the farm you are treated to a wonderful skyline view of the city. If you are looking for a quiet place to walk and take in a few sights (including animalsthis is the place for you.

Small working farm that is a great visit! The farm has antique farm equipment and live animals. The farm has chickens, goats, pigs, and cows. There are also trails that lead to the opposite side of the gorge that are part of the hiker biker trail system.Oxon Cove is a great way point for riding from the ART or Fort Dupont before continuing on to the MVT.This place has water fountains and bottle filler as well as flush toilets.

Sweet little national park. Cows, horses, pigs, chickens, roosters, and perhaps a donkey. Free wagon ride. Fed the chickens for free. Visitors center was closed when we arrived---they were doing an annual visitors center cleaning---but it looked informative. Historic home was also closed. I would suggest going on a weekend because more things would be available to do. Ample parking but its a little walk down a dirt road to get to the park from the parking lot. Not a problem unless you have, say, an elderlu relative who is unsteady on his/her feet. Bring your water with you because you wont want to hike back to the car just for a drink. Jr Ranger program available onsite.

Pretty cool place! Farm right outside of the city with lots of animals, trails, and a tractor ride. And...its free! Great stop for the kids on a trip to Alexandria.

There is a lot of potential for this spot but every time I visit it seems a little more run down. The rangers seem less enthusiastic than other National Parks Ive been too. It either needs more funding or better management.

The Farm is tucked away off of I-395. I took my toddler daughter there on a sunny and hot afternoon and we must of missed all of the activities because there was hardly anything to do besides look at the Farm animals, which included the cows, the chickens, the pigs and the horses, who were all hiding out of the sun. Its a cute little farm to enjoy with the fam, when I imagine, there are activities to do with the animals and children. Maybe next time, well go earlier in the morning or check the website for activities first.Overall, my toddler daughter enjoyed herself and thats all that matters.

Wonderful place to go, especially for younger children. And absolutely free, even parking. Pigs, chickens, goats, sheep, horses, a donkey, and several cows last time I went. The cow let us pet her through the fence and was very sweet.

Beautiful views and well setup for children. There are programs for them to attend and animals they can observe up close.

Great historic site. Lots of history and great views of Oxon Creek, Potomac, DC and Alexandria. The visitor center has a really good junior ranger activity that will keep the children busy for an hour or so.

The day we went all of the animals were in their shelters and there was very little shade. Make sure you bring a wagon or stroller for babies and toddlers because there is a lot of walking between animal pens. Check the schedule for tractor rides before you go so you dont miss them. The great thing is that its free.

I have been going to this farm since I was a child (My grandparents lived in Oxon Hill and I grew up in Alexandriaand I now take my own daughter. It is virtually unchanged (although I think there used to be animals in one of the barns with name tags that are no longer there - but this was twenty years ago!). I love the views from the hay ride and its just a beautiful place all around. Its a farm five minutes from a major US city and having that kind of dichotomy in one place is why the DC metropolitan area is my favorite place to live. If you check out the book shop, they have some great local childrens books. I got one about Molly Banaky, the mother of Benjamin Banneker, and have used it in my classroom ever since. It is free, its educational, its a way to spend quality time outdoors with your family. What else do you need?

This adorable animal farm is run by the National Park Service, so it is free to visit and all of the attractions - cow milking, tractor rides, story time, chicken, hog, duck or goat feeding and more - are free as well. Check the website for times and dates, but virtually every weekday morning starting at 10 am the rangers are out engaging with the visitors and providing one of the above activities.If you need a break from the outdoors, there is a small ranger station complete with childrens nook where they can color, do puzzles, and read one of the many available childrens books on farming. I have three small children and this is one of our go-to places in the area, where I know theyll learn something and have fun!Of note, once you park you still have to walk down a gravelly, pot-holed road for four minutes, so although strollers can make it ok, its a bit of a challenge. : But its worth it!
