Food is amazing, Unfortunately the service is not good enough
Good foods but slow service! Came here for my friend’s birthday; spent loads on food and wine.We brought our own birthday cake and the restaurant charged us £7 EACH cakeage fee!
Charging London prices and providing a fatty steak and slow service is not the way to win prizes. And when a customer points out the fat to meat ratio it is probably better to make a real gesture such as a free dessert and not a bland sorry. But I suppose that is how we distinguish amateurs from professionals. Look at Hawksmoor or Goodman. A generous 3 stars in the circumstances.
Had a very lovely dinner here. Service was impeccable. My favourite were the grilled beets. The white fish in black garlic was well executed and the guinea fowl excellent. However I would like to suggest perhaps to the chef to use less salt, as both meals, while very good, were a bit on the salty side. Also, it can get smoky in the restaurant, even setting off the smoke alarm! Came away smelling like Id been at a camp out. But totally worth it.
Innovative British food bbq style. We enjoyed dinner.
Disappointed overall. Went for a relaxed business meal and it did live up to the informal dining atmosphere but service was poor. It was impossible to get the teams attention without getting up to ask, which is unacceptable when prices are what they are. The high price point means quality in all areas of the experience need to be extremely high.Food was good (steaksalthough oysters were not the best and needed seasoning.Worth a try but we spent £250 on a table of 4 so brace yourself!
A wonderful experience. Great food on rotation always cooked perfect. Very small and warm surrounding. Passionate waiters. 5 star all the way. Not far off Michelin star level food too.But without the pretentious stuff that normally comes with it.
First meal out in and a while and was looking forward to this one. I must say it didn’t disappoint, it was superb!Cool venue with a beer hall for pre drinks on the ground floor and a cocktail bar on the upper level. The restaurant had a nice cosy feel to it with a wonderful smell coming from the open fire kitchen. Our server was very friendly and knowledgable about the menu, gave good advice on our selections. We were probably on the verge of waiting a tad too long between starters and mains but once it came it was soon forgotten as it was beautiful. The Sirloin was cooked perfectly and my partners lamb was some of the best I’ve tasted! Strongly recommend the Sourdough with Chicken Schmaltz for a nice indulgent starter with a cool beer.Certainly will be going again soon!
Was really looking forward to this visit , Nice enough , nice staff and drinks , the food was a bit basic if Im honest , Steak was just ok , not the best Ive had , Ray wing was same , everything was very salty . Wouldnt recommend or go back Im afraid .
So much effort put into the food, it was absolutely delicious! 😋 lovely friendly staff, nice chilled vibe ☺ would definitely recommend 👍👍
Fantastic service, delicious food and a great range of drinks. Couldn’t be happier with our choice to dine at Ox Club.If you go while the Onglet Steak is on, get it! You won’t be disappointed.
Service could not have been better. Attentive, welcoming, friendly and professional. Food was absolutely belting, the focus on cooking over fire can be tasted in every dish and the chefs experience shines through. 100% would recommend to anybody who wants a fine dining experience in a relaxed environment.
Had roast beef for Sunday lunch, it was okay but wish I had gone for the lamb in hindsight. Yorkshires (great sizeand veg were absolutely spot on!! There was also some kind of puree in the Yorkshire which was incredible, as was the truffle cauli cheese (but huge, share between 2-4). Didnt come with roasties but had pomme anna which were nice and a different take on a classic.Smoky bloody mary was delish. My friend had the yuzu smores dessert which she said was amazing 👏Thank you!!
Nice place, friendly staff and food nice. Small menu but thats not a bad thing. Just needed the wine to be colder..
From the moment of walking in we were treated like an old long lost friend returning home. Exquisite food and wine. Perfect service, definitely one to visit again.
We’d been wanting to going to Ox Club for some time and it did not disappoint. My husband and I love oysters, so they were an obvious choice of starter, and they were some of the best we’ve had. The steak, a recommendation from the table next to us, was equally great, tender meat and the dressing was a real winner.Service was a little slow, but it didn’t detract from the experience, particularly given the fantastic atmosphere in the place. We’ll definitely be back!
Incredible food, chic cool and friendly wait staff!! The venison & lamb were both just haves. Highly recommend the potatoes, bread with chicken shmultz & him indoors enjoyed the artichoke.
Not sure I didnt manage to get in. If you walk in wearing shorts, you might get treated like an ox, so check the dress code. I am usually too sloppy about wearing fancy attire when I travel.Easier to get into Londons fancy restaurants. But the food looks good.
A great atmosphere, fantastic staff and wonderful food. Particular mention to Scott our waiter he made our evening amazing talked us through the menu suggested what foods he enjoyed and was an all round Superstar! Thanks we will definitely be returning.
Chuffing Eck, that were bloody good. Best Sunday roast Ive had yet. We arrived early as a party of four and relaxed in the lounge next door with a very nice pint of IPA, other hand drawn beers and cocktails were available. The decor may not be to everybodys taste, a little industrial maybe but its spot on trend. It was comfy and relaxing, and just about right. The table was ready bang on time. The order was taken in good time and although we didnt have starters the 4x beef mains arrived without a major wait. The beef is cooked to order and melts in the mouth. Nearly everything is barbecued, its the only place Ive been to where bags of barbecue wood chips are part of the interior decor. These guys have taken barbecue to another level, its like the meat and veg were barbecue burnt, but burnt to an exceptional tasty standard.Everything on the plate including one of the best yorkies Ive had in my life was outstandingly cooked and tasted sublime. The accompaniments of veg, mash, pomme Anna, complimented the beef perfectly. 4 totally empty plates is a good outcome. The puddings that came werent settling for second best, but put up a good fight. Best ever chocolate grenache this side of of a Michelin starred kitchen.Talking of Michy stars, this place doesnt offer the pretentiousness that goes with a star, its damn good food, cooked by top chefs and served by hard working, well presented staff and totally deserving of this review.
Early evening dinner for two . Shown to our table by a very enthusiastic waitress which is always a good sign . Not a large selection of drinks but enough that should satisfy most people. I had a pint of Beavertown which was delicious . Started with some lovely bread and spicy tomato dip . I had belly pork with black pudding and baked cabbage which was very nice . My wife had the ray wing which she enjoyed . Let down by poor potatoes . All in all the meal was OK for the money . I would recommend a meal at the Ox Club .
Really good food, ambience and service! Only four stars because -for the standard of restaurant and the league at which it plays- I believe its food should have delivered more. Texture for both our octopus and babyback ribs wasn’t tender enough. Rather chewy. But besides this, this is a place where I would go back right away!
The Ox Club is an amazing restaurant and I will definitely be returning. The service was top notch and the food was incredible.Make sure you book ahead, you will not regret it one bit.
Really beautiful, creative, tasty food, great service. I can imagine the dissonance between the restaurant and Headrow House might be quite jarring to some at certain times, but letting that dissuade you would be to miss out on what is undoubtedly one of Leeds best restaurants.
Amazing experience at the Chefs table. Also, would say the best black pudding and Jerusalem Artichokes we’ve ever eaten. Everything perfectly seasoned and service excellent.
Just love the food here! If you like your meat, sides and sauces cooked and tasting another level of excellent, then here is the place. A really intimate and warm place, with a great team of people to match! (Plus, try their Sunday roasts, so wonderfully different)
Never really write a review but its been a over a week and i still cant get over how bang average the meal for what we spend. Ive been wanting to go Ox Club for a long time so was super excited for this as treat for my Gfs bday. Our server was great so cant fault her but the food just wasnt as amazing as expected. Been to many michelin guide and rated restaurants and just felt it didnt live up to the hype.Started with some oysters as we have been craving some really nice oysters for a while. Shocked me abit how they came, used to having oysters laid out on a bed of ice to keep fresh and cold but instead came layered on discarded oyster shells, garnish was a tiny bit of burnt onion or ham or something, really not good. Tasted a bit gritty, dont think the shells had really been cleaned well. Put off oysters for quite a while now. 4/10For main we ordered the £80 1kg Highland cote de boeuf steak to share, Waiter didnt even ask how we wanted it cooked and we was too busy drinking the wine to notice (which was lovely). Left it up to the chefs judgement but most of it was very Rare. We ate it and was a nice piece of meat although was abit undercooked for our liking and didnt blow us away as expected from such a good piece of steak should. 5/10Sides not included too which felt was abit tight since we bought the best and most expensive steak going on the menu, usually you get some sides thrown in when you get the most expensive steak on the menu.Nice choice of dressings though. Sauces get a solid 10/10.Sides of Raclette potatoes were great but lacked seasoning. 5/10Chef sorted us out some greens on the side for free abit of Kale which was a nice touch though.Highlight of the meal was the chocolate ganache dessert. 12/10Was a nice meal but Left feeling hungry and unfulfilled from the bill.In hindsight wish we would of just stuck to the January pre fix menu or come for a sunday roast.
There was a dish on the menu we wanted to try that had meat in the sauce (were vegetarian). The kitchen were able to whip up a vegetarian sauce as an alternative, and it was delicious! Fantastic food and very friendly and accommodating staff. Although there at few vegetarian options they are all delicious. You can also order drinks from neighbouring bar Headrow house. Highly recommend!
We had an amazing time at Ox Club. I took my partner for his birthday; I booked the counter seating which is essentially the chef’s table. The view of the kitchen and the interaction you get with the staff from this seat was brilliant. We were guided through the menu which was ideal as it was a first time trying some of the things listed. The customer service from the whole team was incredible and they went out of their way to make the evening special which it was. We started with the Jerusalem artichoke, Lindisfarne oysters, Hay smoked trout and Venison tataki. For main we had Belted Galloway wing rib of beef (to sharewith a side of Brussel sprouts and Crispy potatoes. Then the Lemon curd, Advocaat ice cream Swiss meringue. I couldn’t find a fault within this meal. The quality of the food was great, it was all beautiful cooked and portioned perfectly. My partner and I go out for food regularly and would consider ourselves foodies. We have visited a lot of independent restaurants, travelled a fair bit and eaten at establishments with Micheline stars and we believe this to be our favourite meal of the year. I would highly recommend visiting this restaurant, we have already spoken about when we will be going back!
Sunday lunch was amazing, everything so tasty. Had beef rump cap, which was perfectly cooked. Pork porchetta, delicious. Pomme anna potatoes, basically the best crispy/roast potatoes. Ordered a side portion of Truffled cauliflower cheese, which I highly recommend. There was a slight delay with how long our starters took to arrive so they gave us a complimentary portion of Hispi cabbage with garlic butter to go with our main. Already planning our next visit.
I really cant fault them. Exceptional food and service.A constantly evolving seasonal menu, where anyone would be hard pressed to find something they didnt like.Weve been a total of 5 times now and each time has been as good as the last. Some of the best food in Leeds.
I took my partner for his 30th birthday meal and this was our first visit to Ox Club - we had an absolutely amazing experience and can’t wait to go back! We did the counter experience and it was fab. The service, food, drinks, atmosphere were all 10/10!!
Absolutely fantastic food which does the most important thing exceptionally well - tastes amazing! Celeriac starter was sublime, my wife is a hard to please vegetarian and noted this was one of the best dishes shes ever been served...The oysters were so fresh I could imagine they were picked that morning and the sirloin is probably the tastiest Ive had, either at home or in a restaurant...So good was the experience that I went back for Sunday lunch and had to have the celeriac as a starter for myself this time, followed by the most succulent pork Ive ever eaten.Do yourself a favour and book in now and enjoy ASAP, the Ox Club is Michelin recommended for these reasons!! Oh and what a great Bloody Mary too...
Booked on recommendation from two friends. We had high hopes for the evening but it sadly missed the mark. The food was ok at best. I’ve had better steak at miller and carter! We had the Cote de Boeuf to share. This was very fatty and a bit of a let down. The crispy potatoes side dish were the highlight. Another unfortunate incident were the two clients sat next to us. One of them had a laugh that was so loud it made the whole lower dining floor look round when she did it. A quiet word from one of the staff to her would have gone a long way. One of the reviews compares this place to the Ivy and says the Ox Club wins… I’m just not sure if they are even comparable as the ivy is in a different league. Full meal was: bread and chicken schmaltz, Oysters x 2, Green olives. Cote de Boeuf, Crispy potatoes, grilled peppers. 2 glasses of Beaujolais, 1 alcohol free beer. £140 inc small tip.
Fantastic. Booked a table for my wife and I for lunch on Saturday. Got there early but was warmly welcomed, and given a table. The place is small, and theres only a few staff, but they dont need any more as the service was great - professional but so friendly. At no point did we feel pressured or rushed, or that they were overwhelmed. The kitchen is quite small, but that means nothing as the chefs turn out some excellent dishes. We had Lindisfarne Oysters with Kimchi and Spring Onion and Grilled Bread with Chicken Schmaltz as snacks. The Oysters were beautiful and the bread was warm and crusty. Not exactly sure what schmaltz is, but it was perfect for dipping the bread. We then both had the Lamb Skewer for a starter. Sightly charred and beautifully soft with a very tasty glaze. After that came the Jerk Monkfish and the 8oz Onglet Steak with crispy chips, and a side of Crispy Potatoes with Kimchi Mayo. Beautifully presented, they tasted even better than they looked. We finished with Grilled Strawberries and the Burnt Basque Cheesecake. I do a lot of barbecuing but Ive never had grilled strawberries before and was pleasantly surprised how nice they were.Didnt really look to closely at the drinks menu, but the Five Points Pale Ale was very nice too. Were not in the area often, but the next time we are, well definitely return.
So much love for the Ox club. Its expensive yes... but totally worth it.They are fantastic with allergies and even created me my own bespoke menu featuring only courses I wall allowed to eat, with some amended so I could eat them. The kitchen also cleaned down everything and as I could see the kitchen I knew this to be true. The service was superb, the ambiance was awesome, Ive been four times now and I will 100% be back
The worst meal in Leeds…Overpriced and tasteless. All the food was horrible except steak. The potatoes and broccoli were burned…Oysters were not really fresh…The vanilla and strawberry choc ice was ok.There’s ‘no service’ however we still got 10% serving fee.Not worth it ☹️
Cosy place right in the centre of Leeds with amazing food, friendly staff, good service and an open kitchen. The fixed price menu was great value, also with the option of blowout steaks. The parsnips with walnut mole was to die for!
Excellent food and very friendly staff, an awesome venue but as WCs are shared with the bars upstairs the toilets were a bit of a climb and a lot of drunk people around. Some of the dishes we received were cold but were reheated quickly.
Great service, great food and great value - three dishes for £20 between 5-6pm. The truffle, celeriac pasta (top leftwas our favourite.
A real hidden gem. Almost lost in a building with multiple venues in a small alley off a main street. I would never have seen it if it wasnt for the great reviews. Food was spot on. On the must do again next time in Leeds list.
Very well-hidden secret of a fine dining in LeedsPriced similar to Ivy but you can not compare the two in terms of decor, atmosphere, service and of course food. This little gem wins any day.If anything it beats much more expensive places like Home, Crafthouse or Box Tree in every possible way. Wish I knew about this place earlier, it would save me from so many disappointments.Very simple menu with locally sourced ingredients, Gordon Ramsay would be very pleased! Every dish is cooked to perfection.Portions are just the right size to have a satisfying meal but not too large or ridiculously minuscule. We had fresh Czech beer from the bar next door and it was equally tasty. Will definitely try something from the wine list next time.Overall, I would say this is THE best place to eat right now in Leeds.Great job and thank you so much guys.
Hip interior. Sunday brunch was nice. Like always with brunch to much egg based dishes for me. Would love see more a regular menu with more creativity. Service was friendly, slightly slow, but assertive. Would come again.
Absolutely amazing food and service. Very cool, and not in a pretentious way.The chef and manager took time to explain the courses, the cooking happened right next to us and the food was so incredibly tasty.
I can’t even begin to get my head around how good this whole dining experience was. The food, service, ambience, chicken dripping. All amazing. Truly splendid. Oh, I didn’t even mention the wine. Geez. Loved every minute of it.
An amazing restaurant, must book in advance. We went on the weekend when they close earlier, so didnt get access to the full menu, but it was still great. The beef, eggs and potatoes I had were delicious and my boyfriend enjoyed his Korean fried chicken rice. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Would go again!
Excellent meal, delicious 😋 ingredients cooked with care packed full of flavour. Really interesting mix of flavours and great special boards with good selection of wines. Definitely recommend
Really cute place with open kitchen, friendly staff full of smiles and chatter. Went for the fixed priced menu, starters, sides and main were delicious with interesting flavours! The peanut butter dessert sounded the best out of 3 but was a slight let down, mixed reviews amongst the groul, pretty though.
We spent four days in Leeds and this was absolutely the best place for food (and beer, as they get you the beer you want from the adjacent pub). Everything was cooked to perfection and the service left none of our questions unanswered. They have an open kitchen and when you see them doing their work, their passion and dedication is obvious.
First visit to this establishment and it will not take long for us to go back, wow what a beautiful Sunday dinner that was so flavoursome from the Chicken to the Lamb and Pork each mouthful was a delight, the veg was plentiful and equally packed with flavor. The staff excellent and attentive, we have eaten our favourite meal in all the top end establishment in Leeds over the years and this place just shot straight to the top as our favorite Sunday dinner. Hats off to the chefs 👏👏, the adjoining bar served a great pint too.
