Ounce Taipei - Cocktail bar in Taipei, Taiwan
Consistently delicious cocktails and awesome staff.
One of my favorite bars in Taipei
From the moment you find the entrance its an experience. From describing your taste preference, and the knowledge of the staff, they will serve you drink that fits your palate or mood.Let me explain my first sip of the drink. OMG is just presentation. Placed on the table you touch the thin posh glass with your fingers which easily makes it to your mouth; your senses start exploding with pleasure. First your nose is filled with the aromas from the descriptive flavors left in the waiters care, then your lips touch the glass that start to fill your palate, teasing the taste buds. Finally, in a rage of euphoria you tip the posh glass that wafts the aromas that satisfy and fill the taste buds with surprise, delight, wonder and a bit of relief into your mouth and go, "mmmmmm." Involuntarily loud enough to be inappropriate. That first sip is the beginning of my story how I excessively drank responsibility with delicious, aromatic, taste bud pleasing cocktails based on the expert hands of the wait and bar staff.
no menugood to drink
Bartenders and mixologists are serious about their creations! Cocktails often exceed customers’ expectations. It’s a must experience if you visit or live in Taipei
The first time I came here was 2 years ago. Throughout these two years, the atmosphere remains really cozy and the bartenders are super friendly! Plus, the cocktails are good! Highly recommended!!
Great drinks, lovely staff and excellent music. What else can one ask? I have deleted my old 3 star review as the bar now has a new bar manager and after revisiting I’ve decided that the service and the drinks deserve 5 stars. The bar is still cosy and comfortable too- Well done Ounce!
This is far from a Speakeasy bar. The drink are good, the music are too bad, too upbeat. The service is nice. But the place has so much potentials and the management clearly isnt styled up for it.
A nice place to hang out with friends:)
Great bar with yummy cocktails.
Had couple of drinks and had interesting conversations with the bar tender. Overall I think I would want to come here again. Drinks are great and kind of reminds me of Hong Kong’s LKF.Price 4/5Drinks 5/5Service 5/5Environment 4/5
The bartenders are pretentious and they try to order for you. They dont carry vodka or gin (what kind of a cocktail bar doesnt do that???The old fashioned was expensive and watery(but hey, at least they have whiskey!and the signature cocktails tasted bland. Overall a bad experience.
Nice ambiance, surprisingly not many people on a Friday night after 10pm.Bar tender and Owner Hervé is very sympathetic and makes excellent original cocktails without any standard menu like other bars. You explain to him your flavours, and he matches for you
Extremely professional bartender and services provided, no menu but a lot of varieties and choices was given by the bartender. Secondly, not overpriced at all. Cozy atmosphere and humble staff.
Excellent no menu cocktail selections, small cozy sitting area and fully packed in weekend night. The servers provide outstanding recommendations for the cocktails per customers’ taste!!
Morris is awesome. But their waiter is complete disaster. We end up at MOD. A much more pleasant place.
2nd time back here, and still my fav cocktail bar in Taipei. Bar tenders speak English, and they are friendly. There are no menus so you need to tell the bartender what you like. The first drink he gave me something more conventional, and after talking to us for a while, he made a 2nd more adventurous drink which I loved!! Also, drinks were strong without tasting horrible. Great place
Relaxed for being a hidden bar. Surpases its well executed gimmick with great, skilled and easy going staff. My part of three ordered Four different cocktails, on and off menu, every singel one perfect. Props for the cool space as well.
First thing first, drinks are average.Until this day, I still cannot decide whether the waitress is being rude to everyone, or I’m just not white enough.附近有更多好喝的酒吧,不須自取其辱。Edited: read the comment, service is equally bad.
4.5 stars! Very cosy and intimate with a hidden door. Bartender was really friendly and up for good conversations. She recommended great drinks! Try the negroni ! It I was amazing . My wife has fun too.
Custom cocktail bar. Look for "BS mini" neon sign. Theyve moved from the cafe. Leo was fantastic and sent me off on more adventures afterwards. Going on the list.
I visited Ounce in October, during one of the typhoons. When we arrived, the bar was empty due to the oncoming storm — in fact, Ounce was one of the few places open for the storm. The entrance is hidden in plain sight: approach the tiny coffee shop looking store front and ask to get cocktails. You’ll be lead through a recessed door into the bar. The darkened bar is cozy and intimate, with no more than six seats at the bar and five or six tables throughout. There is no menu: you will be reliant on the staff to help pick your drinks for you. Everyone we interacted with was happy to make suggestions and ask questions to determine what would be a enjoyable drink to match my tastes. I ended up with a fantastic Calvados Ramos for my first cocktail and a delicious clarified milk punch for my second.Special shoutout to the grilled cheese — my favorite bar food in Taipei! This is a great spot for small groups, couples, and even to hang out solo. The staff speaks English well and has a good selection of spirits.
Gem in the wall. Nice cozy atmosphere. Most importantly-- amazing service. Bartender Morris is very tentative and friendly. Willing to custom made based on personal preference as well. Overall very professional.
The number 1 cocktail in Taipei. About 13USD per drink. The entrance is a hidden door next to a shallow wall/shop type place. Ask around if you cant find it. They speak English. Excellently crafted cocktail with high quality ingredients, fresh fruits, customizable, and incredibly delicious. Lives up to its ASIA TOP50 BAR title.
Lovely place. The cilantro cocktail is “must -try”!!
An actual speakeasy bar, with a hidden entrance and a journey to find the place. Outside has a relaxed vibe, with some prebatched cocktails such as old fashioned and negronis. While we were waiting for our table about 10mins for 4 of us, the owner at the front let us play on his own old school super Nintendo very nostalgic. Finally being seated, it was worth the wait. A nice cosy place, with rustic walls leather seats, New York inspired cocktails. Here there is no menu, the bartenders customise your drinks to your preference. Great drinks, perfect place for a date.P. S The grilled cheese sandwich hits the spot for a midnight snack
Lovely place. Rather small and intimate - would be a great place to bring a date or significant other. Most folks seemed to be clustered in their own little groups, so maybe not the best if you feel like making new friends. Drinks are individually tailored based on your preferences. I only had a couple but they were both very well done and matched my preferences fairly closely. A little on the pricey side as compared to a typical bar, but then again, its not a typical bar - on par or maybe even a bit less than other bespoke cocktail places Ive been to in North America. Friendly staff. Worth a visit if youre in town.
A fabulous speakeasy with no drinks menu and no reservations. Morris our bartender on the night is the best cocktail maker and bartender weve come across. After listening to our preferences and varying requests, every cocktail he made was 10/10 - that was 6 in a row, each one perfectly delicious and different every time. He was also the most efficient bartender, proactively serving us and whipping up dream cocktails (for us and the rest of the barin no time at all. Seriously efficient. All the staff were friendly and attentive, and a few snacks also available. Cant wait to go back.
A nice little bar with no menu. The waiters and bartenders knows how to cater to your specific taste. Definitely a must try. The atmosphere is very good too. Getting to the place is an adventure in itself.
Nice hideout away from the crowd. This place serves drinks based on your likes and dislikes, theres no menu at ounce. The mixologists there are detailed, walk you through your drinks and what its made out of. Great place to chill out for quiet night.
Cool small speakeasy bar with a hidden entrance. They dont have a menu and will make a drink based on what you like, also they dont take reservations so be prepared to wait for a while if you come on a Friday or Saturday. They have a small bar outside so you can have a drink on the sidewalk while you wait for your table.
Went for my birthday a few years back arriving at around 11pm. Ordered first round of shots to start whilst we thought about what cocktails wed order. 10 minutes later we put in our cocktail order. Another 15 minutes pass and we still havent received our drinks, so we ask the waiter to check the progress. The arrogant French bartender comes to our table and informs us that last order had already been called and he wont be making us those ordered cocktails, regardless of the fact that the waiter happily took our order and none of us were informed of the last order call (I understand it was a quiet night, yet the place is apparently open until 2am). Overall very disappointing birthday, wont be coming back. Miss the days of Adam Robinson.
Awesome speakeasy. No menu bar, cocktails based on your preferences. Always made a drink I liked. Good atmosphere, 400nt /drink. Good date location.
Nice hidden bar, with a convenient store as the facade. Certainly have the cosy feel and drinking without disturbance. No menu is provided, but the staff is super helpful and well fluent in English and Mandarin. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to try something different in Taipei.
Speakeasy Cocktail Bar with a great concept - no menu no service. Your order is taken by a waiter who interprets your "style" of drink. My drink was spot on, but my companion not so much - this could be down to the language barrier. Ambience is spot on, not too loud or crowded. Definitely would recommend for a different cocktail experience
The bartender is nice and patient, she lives up consumer’s requests properly. And the relaxing atmosphere makes people happy and lazy. Like it a lot. They don’t have a “menu”, but you can just let the bartender know what you like and what you don’t like. Very cool and easy.
Ounce is one of my favorite bar in Taipei. Every time coming back to Taiwan, I will come to Ounce for a nice drink. Bartender here is very nice and understand how to make a nice whiskey drink for a whiskey guy like me. Its like a secret bar and you will enter the bar from the "wall" door in the right hand side. The space is not big but the atmosphere is great for you to go on your own or with couple friends. Highly recommended and must go. Cheers!
Behind a false wall, you’ll find the dark and cool world of Ounce. The cocktails are top quality and so is the atmosphere. Friendly bartenders will make you a custom drink if you ask. A great place to show a friend or date the more causal/ high class side of Taipei.
This is by far the best cocktail/speakeasy experience I have had in years. I am a huge fan of speakeasies and I have been to several in Boston, San Francisco and New York etc. but this place was absolutely brilliant. The cocktails were AMAZING and the place was not easy to find (thumbs up for thatand the ambiance was perfect. Our bartender was amazing. He was knowledgeable about the drinks he made for us and gave us tips on other coolspots to visit around town.I am just sad I discovered this on my last night here. Thanks for a great experience. I hope to return soon...
Great speak-easy bar experience, drinks was delicous. Our host jason was phenomenal. Very friendly and helpful knowledgable in his trade. Reccomended us some cool places to go in Japan for our next stop. Would highly reccomend this place when travelling to taiwan.
Love the vibe at this speakeasy bar. Comfy seats, spacious layout, and super friendly staffs. Theres no menu here, you tell the bartender what flavor profile you prefer and they make something for you. Of the two times Ive been there, the drinks were generally really good, albeit on the pricey end. They do have some finger food available, but theyre quite overpriced.Did I mention they have a functional Super NES outside the entrance?
My preferred place for a chill drink. No menu, and Ive yet to be disappointed by an order. Cozy and intimate environment, and the "hidden" entrance adds a sense of mystery and fun. Definitely check it out if youre a fan of cocktails.
I enjoyed a tall beer (TW$200at the patio tables by the street with my mate. We were confounded by the folk coming out of the side door, until we needed to recycle a beer and use the toilet. Cool speakeasy with a ‘metropolitan’ mixed crowd. The loo was interesting: sliding door in a triangle shape, the mirrors made the candles look like a circle. Great place to take a date!
Cool entrance, funky vibes inside, but drinks were not great! Though their heart is in the right place, they need to continue to experiment with all their flavours. The drinks were okay, no flare to them or garnish to make them more presentable. The service was pretty good though.
Disguised as a coffee bar in the front. Ask the barista and he will lead the way. No meun so tell the bartender what you feel like to drink. The cocktails are surely top class. You will get a very interesting experience. The coffee bar is actually making coffee, so you can sober up on your way out.
Had an awesome time drinking here. The bar staff were both friendly and knowledgeable, both of cocktails and of bars around the world. Was impressed with the twists on cocktails they made and the quality of the classics. Wish I had more time in this city to visit again!
Great speakeasy bar I visited with three friends on a recommendation. I was unfortunate to knock over my drink, yet it was not charged for despite it being my fault. Our round was NT400 per cocktail and NT250 for a beer. My Dark and Stormy with some extra spice was great. Currently, Last entry 10pm and bar closed by 11pm.
Cozy place with good cocktail, particularly good for a date. Its just that the last order is around 10:00-10:30 pm due to some sort of zoning regulation, which is fairly early.Apart from drinks, the only savory food they serve is French fries (and only available before 9 or 9:15 pm)
Was hidden behind the secret door of relax cafe. Excellent atmosphere. Great classic cocktail for $400 NTD per glass.
Really good drinks and friendly staff. Unfortunately due to new regulations they have to close at 10pm these days but they are looking for a new location, which is also bigger to accommodate more people.
