Il campanile del duomo di Oulu, con i suoi 56,5 metri di altezza, svetta sulla città ed è visibile da varie parti. La torre campanaria, durante il festival della luce, diventa la tela di uno spettacolo fantasmagorico di forme e colori. La cattedrale attuale in stile neoclassico è stata progettata nel 1832 dall architetto Carl Ludwig Engel ed è stata costruita sullo stesso luogo dei precedenti edifici di culto risalenti al 1600 e al 1700. Dal 1900 è la sede della diocesi della Chiesa Evangelica Luterana di Oulu. É intitolata a Sofia Magdalena, moglie del re Gustavo III di Svezia. Oltre alla celebrazioni religiose al suo interno si svolgono dei concerti.

Tämä arvio koskee vain rakennusta. Tyylikäs kirkko ja yksi Oulun maamerkeistä. Väritys on hillityn kaunis. Alkuperäinen kirkko valmistui vuonna 1777 ja sen suunnitteli Daniel Hagman. Oulun palossa vuonna 1822 kirkosta jäivät jäljelle kiviseinät. Vuonna 1832 valmistui Engelin piirtämä nykyinen rakennus.

Sur ce site, sélevait une cathédrale de bois avec un clocher séparé comme un campanile. Lui succédera en 1763, un édifice en pierres. Léglise est inaugurée le jour de Noël 1777 elle est nommée, église Sophie-Madeleine, en lhonneur de lépouse de Gustave III de Suède.Cest un vaste édifice néo-classique. A beautiful example of a Lutheran cathedral - simple and not overly-ornate. Very well-maintained. The ship model signifies that it is also a seamens church. Several lovely stained glass windows. The organ loft is also very beautiful. One of the must see sights in Oulu. Well worthwhile
