Ostras & Coisas - Seafood restaurant in Porto, Portugal
A must for seafood esp whole fish. Good selection of local wines. Friendly service. Book ahead.
The food was great. There are various seating areas. I liked the atmosphere as well. More smiles on the face of the serving staff would be better.
Best seafood Restaurant I have tried in Porto. The waiter is attentive and the food is tasty. We ordered hot mixed seafood plate to share which contains huge amount of shell fishes. The price is reasonable considering the amount of seafood it contains. We also ordered fried sardine is very delicious. It opens late but still very busy at 9:30 pm. Make sure to reserve a table before you go.
Very fresh, tasty, and quality seafood. The waiter explained everything very patiently, and gave useful suggestions. Definitely a place we would go back to. Good idea to make a reservation in advance.
Went there on a busy Friday evening without a reservation, they kindly put me on the bar. For seafood fan like me, this is seventh heaven. I told the bar tender that I need to leave within an hour for a concert, and he helped me with the order, recommended the wine and managed to sent me on my way extremely happy in good time. Highly recommend to have a reservation because over the course of the meal I saw so many people got turned away.
One of the best seafood I ever tried and a great restaurant overall ! Definitely recommend
I had high expectations based on reviews but I must say I was rather disappointed. I was there for a dinner with my wife.Service - one of the more disappointing aspects. Specially the waiter who served us seemed rather uninterested and lacked welcoming personality. Perhaps he was having”a bad day. But orders were taken promptly and delivered on a timely manner.Starters- Two items we wanted to order were not available- Prawns mozambique style 4.5/5 (little on the pricier side)- Scallops 4/5 were cooked to perfection but the saffron sauce was on the salty side- Zamburinas 5/5 fresh and tastyMains- This is one of the most disappointing elements- Sea food linguine 3/5 - large potion but rather bland- Sea food curry 3.5/5 - for a curry it lacked depth and was little on the sweeter side for my liking- both dishes had 1 off-tasting mussel and few shut clamsDessert- brownie with tangerine sorbet 3.5/5 this was very sweet for me (but in general I’m not eating much sweets so for a person who has sweet tooth this might be okay). Tangerine sorbet tasted like car air freshener/bubble gum. I was hoping for sorbet made with real fruits given how nice the Portuguese citrus is.Overall not a place I would visit again. If you want seafood I can highly recommend going to Matosinhos. It’s easily accessible by metro and you can have Fresh rustic and yummy sea food for cheaper. (I’ve tried Titto ll restaurant and highly recommended it )
Delicious food! Amazing service! Great place for people who loves seafood ❤️
We like a lot the restaurant .Very fresh seafood, not amazing but very comfortable meal. Feel local.Good value for money
2 stars because the hostess was nice and the oysters were good but service was slow, although not busy.Food was fine…nothing mind blowing. Watched them turn away numerous guests only to seat a regular a few minutes later. Waiter spilt water all over me with a minor apology and handed me napkins to clean up. Wouldn’t return and honestly not worth the price for the service.
Relaxing and calming environment with friendliest service. Every dish I tried was delicious and beyond. The clams, prawns, oysters and scallop with caviar! I wanted to order more, sadly couldn’t eat any more. Table bread with butters and spicy octopus were just amazing. I have to go back there again!
Reserve & u will be rewarded...oyster & lobster “mix“ platter; great taste & price!😋😋🤪
An exquisite seafood dinner in a fancy restaurant. I could feel the sea taste in these delicious oyster and the waiter was so friendly that he tried to speak our home language. It couldve been slightly more ventilated upstairs but other than that I was very satisfied with the experience.
Scallop was quite good, and flavored well. But the rest that we ordered were definitely on the saltier side (clams, grilled oysters, giant prawns). The serving staff said it was somewhat normal given the saltiness of the seafood, but I dont think so...one just have to take that element into account when doing the flavoring of the dishes , at least for clams and grilled oysters.
Most amazing seafood In the world. Service was top notch! If you are looking for fresh and quality seafood do yourself a favor and go there.
Wow! Great place! With amazing menu. Strongly recommend to try different seafood!
High quality seafood and very honest waiter. He recommended us just enough amount of food, instead of letting us over order and end up wasting. We enjoyed our last meal at Portugal very much.
The food, atmosphere as well as the service are incredibly good. We will definitely come again, If we will ever be in Porto. If we will not even come back to Porto only for this restaurant!
Great food. The boiled crab is very interesting as they cook it with some chilli as such their is a kick to it to elevates it from plain boiled.Oysters were extremely creamy too.Excellent meal.
We ordered the mixed lagosta plate and it was a huge dissappointment, definitely not worth the money. The shimp was barely decent, one of which not fully cooked. The barnacles were too salty to eat and the lobster was the worst I’ve ever had; over-salted and very far from tender. We tried to express our disappointment, but there was very little response..
I dont generally like to post negative reviews on single experiences but prefer to warn people. Be prepared to wait a very long time, not just to be seated, but to order your food, and then to receive it. Not sure if it was a staffing issue that day but just seems like this is the status quo here. The food was alright but certainly nothing too great and frankly priced high compared to most places we visited in Portugal, especially for what it was. While everything was fresh its no different than any other seafood restaurant youd go to. If you do go, skip the barnacles, they shove them into combos that otherwise sound good, but Id suggest asking about swapping them out for more of everything else.
Good quality , but not the best . Oyster is a bit too salty . Overall it’s a nice place . But quite touristic tho
Awesome food, great staff, truly the zameneros (spelled wrong for sureare incredible. I also had the garlic & raw oysters, both very nice. Can also highly recommend the tuna on bread - its essentially a little panini with seared tuna and some veg. Delicious! The staff are lovely too, especially the oyster shucker - many thanks...!
The most amazing meal in Porto.I was served by the most fabulous waitress HelenaEverything was so tasteful and the service was impeccable. A must visit for Porto. … if you can get in.Also very good for allergens.
If it was possible to give this restaurant 0 stars I would. We ordered gin and tonics, grilled oysters, fresh oysters and the crab platter with crab, 2 kinds of shrimp and barnacles. We received both oysters before the drinks and every time a plate would get put on the table the waiter would tell us the gin and tonics were coming (without us askingbut they took literally 25 minutes. The oysters were VERY fishy and the raw ones were visibly frozen before. The grilled oysters with butter and garlic did not have any garlic flavor, instead I felt I was just slapped with a fish in the mouth. The shrimp, barnacles and crab were mediocre at best. We received a broken crab cracker and it took 10 minutes to get a new one but in the meantime the waiter decided to move the tables around for no reason and hit me with it in the process. This was a terrible experience and I absolutely do not recommend it to anyone. I was craving seafood for the past 2 weeks and this restaurant made me not want any for the rest of the year. The entire time I felt nauseous from the food and from the horrendous service.
Everything was PERFECT! We ate many things, from cream sea food soup, tempura squids, cramp pate, sea food pasta.. to grilled Zaburina. We are from Croatia which is sea side country but this was one of the best sea food we have ever had! Sorry guys, no photos but this, there was no time to take them. Sparkling wines on thd photo, OMG: we had no idea Portugal has such good ones! Must visit! Bon apetit!PS. Service 10+
One of the best sea food restaurants in Porto!!! Excellent food, amazing service, great and delicious dishes, top class wine and tastes! The zamburinas were to die for!! An experience to remember forever 🤩🤩🤩🤩
It wouldnt be a real visit to Porto if you havent visited a seafood restaurant for for a nice meal so I chose this location for mine. I arrived the restaurant around 5 to 10 minutes before it opened, there was a lineup already Lucky I wasnt picky on seating at a particular table so I just chose the bar seat and was seated immediately without any reservation.Otherwise I would highly recommend that you make a reservation else you may have to wait for a long time. they have a wide selection of the seafood available and they will give you a description before they seated you. I chose to have a European lobster for the night and some scallop and oyster to go along. The meal was delicious and I definitely would come back again if i have a chance
We did not have a reservations, but were able to sit at the bar area. Every dish, we order, was great. We strated with fish soup and we were in for a treat. After soup we ordered 4 different dishes and they were all amazing. We could not pick one, to say this is the best. All were so good. Very friendly service, ready to suggest food and drink. Would highly recomend to visit this place, but make a reservation. Would go again.
Disappointed. Aquariums with live crabs looked so promising. But we had bad experience, I can recommend only scallop as a starter - that was interesting and fresh. Crab mix (50€): shrimps was tasteless and cold, crab was also cooked not today and with bitter taste. Not recommend this place at all((
Very very tasty food and a very nice restaurant! However, the wait is very long and we found the portions to be quite small, so a bit too expensive for how much food you get.And of course, you have couvert de table waiting for you on the table and have to pay for it.
Underwhelming experience. Starters were good and flavourful. However, we decided to order seafood pasta as a main. The waiter recommended a pot which was way too much for 3 people, the pasta, prawns and lobster were overcooked. We were not able to finish half of it and it was not worth taking home. Lacked flavour and texture. Would not recommend.
We had a fantastic dinner at Ostras & Coisas. Everything we tried was delicious. The chefs don’t smother the dish in thick sauces or heavy seasoning; they let the quality of the fish speak for itself. We had prawns, zamburina (like small scallops), rock lobster, oysters and barnacles. I particularly appreciated the quick demonstration on how to separate the barnacles!Service was very professional and efficient, and theres an extensive winelist to enjoy with your dinner. We were very impressed by the overall price compared to the high quality of the dishes. I recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Porto.
Fancy spot to treat yourself in central Porto, nice fresh fish and oysters and a good selection of Portuguese wines.
Excellent sea food! Perfect location and great service.
I was wondering not sure what to get until I spotted this gem.. they have amazing oysters to begin with. The menu is for the seafood geeks.it is beyond any you will see in a seafood restaurant. Really good products and friendly laid back atmosphere. Will make an occasion to come backAnd the prices are very friendly I am surprised.
Great value of seafood!Normally seafood is expensive but here the price deserves! The scallop is so sweet and the seafood rice is out of expectation! It was filled with crabs, prawns and clams!I love the wine as well! Lovely and modern decoration is a plus from here!
One of the best seafood restaurants I’ve been to. I’ve tried the shrimp, oysters, scallops and lobster, plus a fish soup. Everything was fresh and absolutely delicious, but the scallops were my favorite dish by far. As you walk in, the waiters welcome you by showing the fresh catch of the day and you can literally select the fish or other seafood you would like them to prepare for you. The wine list is extensive and my waitress was very helpful with the selection of wines that wonderfully complemented my meal. The atmosphere is quite relaxed as well. It’s not a cheap restaurant but definitely worth the money. Highly recommended.
Really nice, fresh seafood. Kind staff, nice ambiance. Recommend to try several starters as they were all delicious. The main course, rice is really large.
Wonderful restaurant! I came there alone and sat at the bar. The waiters are beyond friendly. Very attentive and caring. I tried oysters for the first time, one waiter patiently answered all my questions and explained how to eat it properly. As the main course I got the shrimps Mosambik style I think it was called. Excellent! They were halved and the grilled. One of the best meals with shrimp I’ve ever had. As a dessert I got the brownie with tangerine ice cream, it was ok, not mind blowing but decent. The vibe was nice, good music, super clean. I’ll come again’nn
Manager was nice enough to let me know in advance that they would change my booking for the next day with no hiccups. Brilliant selection of fish and very knowledgable staff. Would definitely recommend for a relaxing night or if you just want a fresh taste if the sea.
one of the best food experience Ive had in Portugal. Friendly staffs, great foods and wine. Can only recommend. Please do make a reservation before!
Oysters, prawns, scallops or sweets - it doesnt matter what, everything was fresh, prepared with a touch of skill, served by kind and attentive staff, in great atmosphere. Absolutely a yes.
We went out with our friends to get a taste of local sea food. We decided to chose this spot recommended on Trip Advisor. We had pretty high expectations because the pictures were quite impressive. And this place delivered in 110%. It occured to be the best place that we got to eat in while travelling around Portugal. The spot is beautiful and elegant, the sea food and fish was fresh and sweet, and what we found the most exciting about this whole experience was the service- Sir Sergio O. great thanks to you for professionalism, food recommendations and making this evening such a tasty and joyful time. Highly recommened!!
We have a great dinner in this place, we asked for the mix of crab 🦀 and oysters (all the typesas entrance and was more than enough for 3 persons. The best oysters are the ones with garlic and butter and the naturals. Good prices.
The photos on Google all looked promising, but in reality, the food was not as expected. The stuffed crab was OK to be fair. However, it was a little heavy on the mayonnaise, covering all of its natural flavouring. The seafood rice was too salty, they did replace with another one, however, the dish did not wow. A bit of lemon did the trick, but this dish, in my opinion needs some revamping. The fish stock is all I could taste. Personal suggestion, the chef could have removed the intestines from the prawns before cooking. .The lady there gave great service, but the guy upstairs serving, lets say theres massive room for improvement in how he serves the food, interacting with customers would be a nice start.
Good fresh seafood in Porto. The bread was offered as a great starter, fresh oysters and amazing shrimp, though the crab was not so great (maybe not my type)
First of all, the service at the restaurant was great. Nice wine selection and recommendation from the waitress. Their basket of bread was really tasty, I specifically really enjoyed the broa (Portuguese corn bread). We ordered a platter. We were interested in trying the barnacles and stuffed crab. I really enjoyed the barnacles, nice salty flavour to it - but not too much of the stuffed crab (sapateira recheada). It had an overwhelmingly strong alcohol taste to it. The rest of the seafood were just fine. We also tried some Portuguese oysters, they were very briny. We also found it unusual that the muscle was not detached from the shell. The pumpkin dessert was a let down as the cream was too heavy and flavourless and the pumpkin had a weird consistency to it. Ended the night with some nice port. Overall, a nice place to go for a fancy date but would perhaps recommend elsewhere if it’s for something casual. Also I have to say, for a nice restaurant, their toilet was pretty dirty.
Beautiful place, with a great selection of seafood, fresh and well cooked - all sauces are fantastic! The service is great - they were so caring and recommendations were spot on. Would definitely come back. Thanks, guys!
Amazing place with beautiful atmosphere, excellent fresh fish and seafood and lovely, friendly and helpful people working here. Thank you so much Joana for making us feel so comfortable!
