Osteria 32 - Italian restaurant in Muncie, United States
Brandon was terrific. The food was delicious. Great dinning experience.
Omg wonderful deep dish Chicago style. Excellent food and friendly staff
Too snooty for Muncie- don’t support this restaurant!!!!My husband and I were excited to try this place. It was date night without the kids so we thought we’d try this 21+ authentic Italian restaurant. We arrived to a nearly empty parking lot at 5:45pm. When we walked in there was ONE table occupied outside along with ONE table occupied inside- basically an empty restaurant. The host came up after a few minutes and said he could not accommodate us (the place was full of 8-person large tables, 4 persons tables, along with 4 empty bar stools!, etc), because they had some reservations coming later in the evening. Wow! Do they want to lose customers? Guess what- we went to Mr. Mouse in Yorktown because they know how to treat their guests.
The food was delicious. I got the squash ravioli and it is by far my new favorite comfort food in town. So good. Plus they have the cutest salt and pepper shakers Ive ever seen.
Cozy, romantic setting for enjoying upscale Italian. The salad dressings are homemade, the wine flights are shareable, the food is excellent and the servers are very hospitable. We tried a pasta and a wood fire pizza and while both were delicious, the Parma pizza was the show stopper of our meal. I can confidently say, if you’re able to save any slices to take home, it’s just as good the next day cold.Make a reservation if you can. We did not make a res but we weren’t in a hurry and we enjoyed a nice leisurely top quality dinner.Backstory; we traveled from an hour away to go to our favorite Thai restaurant but it closed early. As such we were looking for something to eat when we stumbled onto this place. Don’t judge this book by it’s rustic exterior or you’ll miss out. While we didn’t take the long drive for Osteria 32 they saved our dinner date and we now have an Italian place in Muncie that I know we will visit again.
I would first like to start of by saying after reading the reviews here, was not sure what to expect as they were varied. Now the fact an Italian restaurant to have a menu such as Osteria 32 puts forth would imagine has some diners who may be used to chain restaurants or more traditional establishments at a disadvantage. But to me it was refreshing to see offerings not often found and not all red sauce based. The setting was enjoyable though nothing out of the ordinary but what was outstanding , the food. Service was great as well. We started with Taglieri as our appetizer. There was mention of portion size somewhere here in a review and honestly not sure what they were referring to as this appetizer was extremely well proportioned as you can see. And extremely tasty. My main course was Cotoletta A Orechchio, a perfectly presented pork cutlet with roasted vegetables and potatoes. Would recommend this dish.We also appreciated how our meal was served to us. There was no rush, no course in front of you as another arrives. They made you appreciate the dining experience old school fashion which we liked. Will certainly be back to try some of the menu items that also looked good and will definitely give their pizza an opportunity. To me there is certainly not any 🍕 in Muncie worth talking about.
I so wish I could give this place a better review. We really need some quality locally owned fine dining restaurants in this city. However I have had issues with their pasta dishes. The pizza is good. But we have lots of good pizza in town. On my latest visit here I ordered Spaghetti Puttanesca with a Caesar salad. The salad was great. The bread was served with olive oil and roasted garlic. Delicious. The pasta dish however was drenched in oil. This dish definitely has olive oil in the sauce but my plate was a puddle of oil. And it had a slight bunt flavor. Just unnecessary. So while I like the place; good wine, good service. I am disappointed in the attention to dishes.
By far, the best restaurant in Muncie. The food was amazing. Very friendly and relaxing atmosphere. Gets you to an off the McGalliard location, which in itself is a huge plus. After working with a 5☆Italian chef for 3 years, I give high recommendations.
The complimentary water tasted like it came downstream from the wastewater treatment plant. Our group waited 2-1/2 hours for our food. We were the only people in there and they told people walking in it would be a 2 hour wait. The food was decent but not wait for food. I could have doctored a frozen pizza with hamburger to compare. The obeisance of an old Hardees really added to it. The run down parking lot in the drug district really makes it a place to go
Nowhere on their Google description did it mention they dont allow anyone under 18 "because we are considered an open bar"...and here I thought the drinking age was 21....? Making the drive and then walking in (no signage indicating that children were not allowedand being told we cant be served because we had a child with us was a little frustrating. I cant speak for the food but the area/outside of the building definitely didnt mesh with how their website (which we viewed later and found to state 21+ (still different from what the waitress told us)described the place. Inside was much nicer but of course...since we were kindly asked to leave I cant speak for the food.
Nondescript building hiding a refreshing high-end establishment. Service is attentive and professional. Meal quality is well above average, with an appropriate variety of Italian dishes and deep-dish pizza. Respectable wine selection. Theyre a little over the top with wanting reservations, so expect a bit of a cold shoulder as a walk-in.Update April 2022: food quality has notably declined. Ordered take-out, arrived on time and waited 15 minutes for them to "find" the food, which was cold. Take-out is clearly disorganized. There is no reason to return.
I give our experience here yesterday an A+We got seated promptly, our server was top notch. Our food was amazing.I got the salmon which was cooked to perfection! My son and husband both got the deep dish pizza. Not your true deep dish but the best tasting pizza I have ever tasted in Muncie. Huge kudos!!!!!
This place literally has the best pizza in Muncie. They have some of the best pizza I’ve ever had. I’ve eaten a lot of pizza and this has out done almost all of them. I highly recommend this restaurants pizza.
This place is amazing. Its the best Italian restaurant Ive ever been to.
Has a very quiet intimate atmosphere.Food was very good, but not remarkable.Wine list is pretty extensive for the area.Local beer list was short."Chicago Deep dish" pizza was the wrong term to use. Very much reminded me of a hand-tossed, but very creative flavors.Risotto was underwhelming.Overall it was very over priced in my opinion.Table of 4 with 2 wine flights $250 bill.Decent meal but not quality for that price.
We wanted to try something new for a date night and found this little diamond in the rough in Muncie, IN. For our first visit, we shared an Insalata Caprese, and then we both ordered Risotto: Risotto Milanese, and Mushroom Bacon Risotto. This was an enjoyable experience and we will certainly go back.An interesting visit... We made an early reservation to fit our evening plans, so it was not crowded but was filling up by the time we left. The restaurant building is not upscale; it looks like a better fit for a dinner or deli, but good food makes up a lot for lack of ambience. The food was definitely more upscale than the atmosphere, but still, their dinning area was nice and very functional. The staff was great - friendly, knowledgeable, and hard working. It appeared there were only 3 staff working, a chef and two servers. From the little bit of the kitchen we could see, the Chef was always busy, and it was clear the servers pulled a lot of weight as they managed the tables and spent some time in the kitchen as well - it appeared they were helping to prep or plate some of the food. Yet, even as the tables filled up, they didnt appear to slow down or get stressed. This was pretty impressive to me - 3 people running the restaurant at this level. The food was good - we liked the Insalata Caprese - the balsamic reduction dressing was really great and together it was very fresh. The risotto was also very good - although we have never had a main course of just risotto. It was definitely hearty enough, although sides are ala cart with risotto, and next time Ill order a side with it for some variety. The risotto itself was very tasty, although a little undercooked in my opinion - slightly crunchy/chewy, although some may like it this way. We had leftovers, and it reheated the next night very well.It was a date, so we decided to get dessert and shared Tiramisu, one of my favorites. I liked this, but found it had a different flavor profile than expected. I didnt really taste any coffee - the cake part of the dessert wasnt soaked in anything, which is a bit odd since the menu description was for a classic tiramisu which by definition is coffee soaked cake. It was still a nice dessert, just not tiramisu by my standards (or anyones?)I forgot to mention this is also a wine bar and they had a good selection of wines (with a variety of price pointsif youre into that. Im not a wine expert.Overall, this was a really good visit with great staff and good food. The pros far outweigh the cons, resulting in a solid 4 star review. We are very much looking forward to a second visit! You should check it out.
It was my first time to try the Osteria 32 menu. I ordered on the phone and they prepared everything in a timely manner. The minestrone soup, the deep dish vegetarian pizza and the tiramisu were all delicious! I recommend this Italian restaurant wine bar.
Wonderful quiet place! Delicious food and great service! Get off the beaten path and try this place. You wont be disappointed. No need to drive to Chicago. Hands down one of the best pizzas ever! Sorry food was so good I forgot pictures.
Always exceptional food, service, and atmosphere. One of the few places in Muncie where the food is truly made from scratch, and something to please every taste. I had the seafood risotto, ones of my faves. Canolli to take home. Perfect.
Was very impressed with the flavor of the pizza. My husband and I ordered the chef’s special and it was delicious. Would recommend if you want a taste of more authentic Italian food.
First time here. 2 couples. Everything was great starting with the appetizers, main meals, and wine. Too full to think about dessert. Our server was fantastic as well. We look forward to returning again.
The atmosphere, service, and food—in particular the deep dish pizzas—were all exceptional. If you are looking for a more authentic Italian cuisine experience than what the typical Muncie establishments provide, then look no further than Osteria 32.
Did we get a dud?The menu claims Chicago style deep dish, but it was hardly deep dish. Flavor was very good on the pizza we ordered, but again, we were bummed that it wasn’t really deep dish. Maybe we got a dud?The tiramisu was not great because the liqueur was the prominent flavor, as opposed to the subtle liqueur-soaked ladyfingers.Honestly, for a business that took out billboards trashing a hometown hero like Pizza King, I would have expected the pizza to be what they claim it is.
Great experience. Food is amazing, the Moscato is very sweet. This establishment is 21 and over, and food is made to order so expect longer then usual wait time for food
delicious pizza!!! nice upscale place to go right in Muncie!
This place is a gem for sure!We ate on the patio. Our server was THE BEST! Very attentive, super friendly and informative. The food was OH. SO. GOOD!!!!We started out with the tag board. It was perfect for the 3 of us with portions. Good cheese and meats with soft bread and fig jam. Our wine was an off the menu kind as they didnt have the Moscato on hand and was an excellent replacement option. 2 of us had the specials that was a creme sauce with sun dried tomatoes, spinach and fillet medallions over linguine noodles. So flavorful, the meat was melt in your mouth tender. The other had a pork tenderloin dish that was juicy and very flavorful. We had a tiramisu for the table and 3 butterscotch gelatos and again... They were wonderful!Highly recommend this place!!!

This place is a gem! Wonderful food and service. The atmosphere is so cozy and intimate. I would highly recommend this restaurant for dinner every night of the week. Thank you for your hospitalityYour friends from Michigan
Our first time here and we will definitely be back. We had the pasta last night. It was amazing. We look forward to trying the deep dish pizza next time.
This is the second time we have eaten at Osteria 32. It was so good the first time but there weren’t any other customers in there when we went (thanks COVIDso I wanted to wait to do a review until we ate there again. This time we brought along another couple. Well let me tell you...this place is delicious and has such a wonderful atmosphere with the decor and the music choices. The waiter was awesome, attentive but not annoying (you know the kind where they check on you every 5 mins), he gave us plenty of time to visit and kept us hydrated with water and libations. The food was amazing, I had a chicken dish that was a special for the weekend, I can’t remember the name but it was presented in a very sophisticated manner with a lovely tomato basil compote that was a great compliment to the rolled chicken pieces. My husband ordered a deep dish Chicago style pizza which was also amazing!! I also ordered (and enjoyedthe red wine flight. And may I tell you that the tiramisu was scrumptious! And I’m not even that big of a fan of tiramisu!!! The prices are moderate, we spent about $80+ without tip but it was well worth the meal and ambiance!!! Next time I will take pictures!!
My best friend and I went here to celebrate my birthday, and we split a bottle of wine, a pizza, a bowl soup, and a salad and it was amazing! We had some of the best service!! I can’t get over how great this place was! Will go back again for birthdays and other formal celebrations!
Absolutely delicious! We had never heard of this restaurant before, but randomly discovered it when searching for Italian options in Muncie. We were not disappointed! The pours of wine were very generous. Our server was so nice and personable. And the food was by far the best and most authentic Italian I’ve had anywhere in the area! Definitely worth the visit!
Incredible food !!! We ordered Carne pizza and Pasta Bolognese (bolognese sauce takes three days to make ❤️and A cheese and meat board !!! All was amazing I definitely will be back to try everything on the menu I just don’t know if I’m going to be able to NOT re-order what we just had..... it was so amazing!!!!I sampled the Apple gelato and espresso gelato .....aaaaaamazing !!! Be sure to save room for some gelato!!!
The food was fantastic! When I set up a reservation, not required but appreciated, they informed me of an understaffing issue. Brandon made it seem like that was not even a thing. He was quick answered questions and helped to make the dining experience a wonderful one. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a more upscale Italian place.
We love this place! The food is amazing - we are completely hooked on the deep dish veggie pizza - but have enjoyed all of the other dishes that we have ordered. The chefs are top notch! Dan and Summer have provided Muncie with an excellent Italian restaurant. Brandan and Michaela make the dining experience extra special; they are both so helpful and attentive. It doesnt get much better than this. We highly recommend this place!
We had dinner here Valentine’s Day evening. It took 10-15 minutes to be greeted at our table, 20 min for waters. The valentine’s specials were not on the table, nor was any silverware which we had to grab off another table after our food was served. Our server was very nice but explained nothing. I had to send my seafood risotto back because it was barely lukewarm at first bite. They offered to make another that would be ready in “4 minutes”.. which it was. It was kind of unsettling that another entree could be prepared within 4 minutes at a finer dining restaurant. The food was good, but overall experience was not.
Food is always amazing. Deep dish pizza is really good! The atmosphere is quiet and intimate. Must be 21 or older to dine. You can’t go wrong with anything you order.
Food was outstanding. Dish was a salty, so the chef re-made it! Salad was great, but needed a lot more basil! I had a wine flight, (white), and all 3 were superb. The tiramisu was amazing! Our waitress let us sample the espresso gelato! I have been to a LOT of gelato places around the country, and this was the best that I have ever tasted! The atmosphere really needed an upgrade, big time. It was very clean, but going to a nice restaurant like this you expect some super nice things to look at like sculptures, for example, nice pictures of Italy, etc. It could have used some chair covers to "up" the look. Only one fork, (no salad fork, & dinner fork). I feel this is one of the best restaurants in Muncie, and my boyfriend agrees! We did wait a long time to be addressed once we sat down. Our waitress was awesome, other than waiting a while at the beginning. (Thx for the great service! ❤ Other than that, I highly recommend Osteria 32, & we will definitely be back!
Putanesca bland, no anchovies, two capers. Coffee, strong, black. They gave two people one Tablespoon of cream and no spoon for the sugar. The server said they were out of cream. We suggested maybe milk or something like it. He finally found some 10 minutes after dinner was finished. We ordered coffee before we ordered dinner. Bread was refrigerator cold. Oil and herbs had not set long enough to have good flavor. Great Roman salad. Seafood risotto very good. High prices.Paper straw with water, only if asked for.
All in all I would say this place has potential, but they have a few things they could improve on. All of the staff that we dealt with were first rate, very friendly and helpful. The food was well prepared and from what I understand many of the components are made from scratch. The atmosphere was subdued and pleasant although a little on the warm side. A nice selection of music played in the background at just the right volume to be heard, but not inhibit conversation. Now for the constructive criticism. Most of these are very minor details, but at the price point of their menu items I believe they are relevant. The fresh bread was brought out and it was good, but could have been better if not cold. The wine glasses were covered with a noticeable film from the dishwasher. The Lasagna was very good and a huge portion which made the very small portion size of the Spaghetti Puttanesca w/shrimp seem like a child menu choice. My wife is quite petite and even after the bread and the Stewed Mushrooms (5 Stars), she had no need of a to go box and she even scraped off the shrimp as inedible. In fairness, my wife is from the coast of South America and she has grown up on very fresh seafood, but considering the price I believe they could do better than have a dozen of very small, flavorless salad shrimp that I am sure were the farm raised Walmart variety. As I said the potential is there, but we do not feel compelled to return.
We got the specials, the gnocchi and pan fried pork in truffle sauce. They were both delicious!! Pleasant environment. Very nice wait staff and the chef came out and spoke to all the tables. Asking if everything was good and if anything needed improvement. I would definitely recommend and definitely will be going back. Worth every penny!! 😊
What a gem this place turned out to be. I went for the 1st time recently and ordered the Salmon Genovese. It was a delicacy. It had a sauce made up with basil pesto, lemon and diced tomatoes and topped with micro-greens. There was roasted potatoes with it. They gave hot dipping bread to start which was excellent. They had the best coffee Ive ever had anywhere. Must be Italian coffee that was somewhat whipped. I almost didnt add cream thinking it was already there. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing not noisy. The waitress I had was a darling. Very nice and helpful and best of all didnt use the typical scripted speaking that a lot of waitresses are using. Instead she was natural and genuine. Also the other waitresses were helpful instead of just taking care of a section. Ill definitely be back. There is no restaurant this good in nearby Anderson where I live.
The filet was the best Ive ever had. The sides were cooked perfectly and flavorful. Very attentive service. A little expensive but very worth it.
Upscale Italian Restaurant, that prides itself on a personal touch and amazing the taste buds. Our Server, Gabbie, took very good care of us and was very personable. Chef Kite came to our table and asked how things were tasting, and even describe how he made the reduction that was giving my Filet Mignon its amazing flavor. I would highly recommend Osteria 32. You can thank me later.
Relaxing atmosphere. Friendly servers; and chef does make himself visible. Anyone coming to an Italian restaurant should expect non-fast food service.Noted previous reviews of slow service but that was not evident on our Saturday night visit. Great and new experience on the food!!! Will return!!
My Chicago pizza was warm, flavorful, and salty. Accompanied by a small Roman salad, I felt a bit healthier about it. Both were delicious and pretty to look at. (I took quite a bit of pizza home to my very appreciative family. As an appetizer, I shared a platter of prepared meats and cheeses accompanied by fig preserves and bread with my dining companions. Im still thinking about the fig preserves. What a distinctive taste. It not only involves the taste buds but has a delicate olfactory component that makes you stop and think. I believe you experience figs, instead of eat them. I like the combination with the salty meat and cheese and bread. Service was a bit slow and seemed disorganized at first, but congenial. The atmosphere invites good conversation and is warm and romantic, with low lighting and candles and table cloths and wine. My friends enjoyed lambrusco with their individual pizzas. I wanted coffee and was disappointed with the cup of lukewarm watery fluid I was served. It left a scum around the top of the cup and had coffee granules floating in it. I sent it back in exchange for a mineral water, which was served in the bottle. A really good cup of brewed black coffee was what I was looking for. Four stars though because the food was so good and the people congenial and my friends and I had a really nice time.
The service was really great, but the kitchen sent my wifes food out before mine. She was done eating by the time my food arrived. I ordered the filet medium rare, which was actually cooked medium and didnt have a very good sear. The sauce was flavorful, but the steak itself was disappointing. Also my wife and I are fairly confident that the bread is from the meijer bakery. Definitely not worth the money.
Bravo to Osteria32! Four of us dined there yesterday and came away very happy (a few also came away with boxes for leftovers, so the portions are reasonable). Authentic ingredients, along with the care and attention that comes with making everything from scratch, also come with a higher price....more than is common in Muncie, but this is an uncommon restaurant striving for something special. The food was excellent, the staff nice and knowledgeable. Its wonderful to have another place in town where one can take a forkful, savor, and make dinner what it was meant to be. This will be a frequent stop for me.
Reservations are needed so plan ahead... the food was perfect. My waitress was very pleasant and attentive. I ordered diet coke.. it came in a glass with half of it... and was accompanied by the rest in a can... perfect so it doesnt get watered down. It didnt come with a straw and I didnt ask for one...I figured it was some movement like they have done in Laguna Beach.. #nostraws Tiramisu, as I requested was served with my main.. perfect amount of food and I didnt leave feeling like I needed to be rolled to my car. The owner greeted us as we entered and could be seen interacting with other guests. This place has a piano.. so Im guessing there is or will be entertainment at some point. I was in and out in an hour and a half. #nocompetiton #italian #offthebeatenpath
Update: The cost of the food in no way or shape is justifiable for the portions and quality you are served. Some items were very tasty and enjoyable, but should have been half the price. I understand your food costs need to be ~30% of what you charge in order to make a profit, but there is no way some of these items are anywhere close to that margin.Small portions, big prices. Cant comment on the wines, but beer selection was ok.Portion sizes isnt everything, but some of the plates were laughable when they were put on the table you realize what you are paying for it.Plates were shared among a group to try more dishes.First course was okThe pizza was good but pretty steep at $17 for a small pie, the meat platter had a good spread but the "crusty" bread looked and tasted like a $2 loaf of French bread from Kroger and they only gave a few measly slices. Would have loved a real rustic loaf or something similar.Risotto was very tasty, but again the portions are miniscule. $17 for about a cup of risotto is pretty laughable. The cotoletta was very tasty and reasonable for the price.Saltimbocca was very flavorful and reasonable for the price. The tuna was pretty bland, the portion size was decent thought.Tagliatelle was underwhelming. Sauce was sweet but watery and the pasta didnt have much flavor. The tiramisu was excellent. Nice size portion and very flavorful without being over sweet.Final thought, for the price some of the food was very lacking. The lack of bread on the table to scoop up the sauces and the soft boring bread included with the meat and cheese platter put a damper on it. I wonder what the target market is going to be in Muncie when its around $60 a person for a meal without wine or beer.
