Osegye Hyang - Vegan restaurant in Seongnam-si, South Korea
Their jajangmyeong, mandu, sundubu is sooo good. They did an amazing job taking Korean staples and interpreting it for the vegans out there.
I have been here 4 times now. I love the food but they increased prices around 2k starting this September and the service is really bad that’s why 4 starsI had the sweet & spicy Korean chicken (without side dishes unfortunatelywas lukewarm but delicious, the spicy beef soup (amazingand the Spicy chicken with lettuce and sides (amazing)Free wifi and water. Nice atmosphereYou sit on the ground. Like I said it’s sad that they increased prices (Bibimbap and most dishes now 12k instead of 10)Bibimbap is not goodThey treat costumers like: why do you visit this restaurant? We don’t want you here hahaBut I keep coming back for the food, even though most things are probably not freshly made
I loved this place. Always grateful for vegan restaurants as we Muslim can have it without worry. We went here twice. I loved the katsu with rice I had and also the hot udon i had the second time we went there.Muslim friendly, Halal friendly.Maybe slightly on the higher price range.Located at the alley on the left side of Samzigil if youre facing it from outside, at the very heart of Insadong the famous attraction.
Super bad service also cited by other google reviewers, which will sour your visit to korea. Visit at your own risk. Took over 1 hour to prepare food. And in the end turned out their staff did not key in the order, and even blamed us for not recognising who we passed the order to. Also, there was one rude staff member, not sure if the owner, who did not apologize after hitting my back with the food trolley. Im sure not all korean food places and staff are rude, but this takes the cake. An especially unpleasant experience to our otherwise good trip to Insadong. The restaurant should improve how they treat customers! It reflects badly on visitors impression of korea.
Perilla noodles was amazing! A bit of q but manageable. 10 to 15mins. Very good vegan food.
A vegetarian must go restaurant in Seoul that is conveniently nestled in popular Insadong.
Food took forever to arrive and was cold and bland. I had a better bibimbap on my Korean Air flight than at this restaurant.
Very bad service. I came first but they served other customers who came after me. And it is more than 3 customers! I already told them asking my meals. But it was still not delivered. I left the restaurant. Very bad service!
Love the heartening wheat stew and tangsuyuk, pity I did not get to try the tofu stew as they have sold out.
Amazing Authentic Korean Food experience.... superb Vegan Food !
Extremely bad service by the staff. We queued up at the restaurant’s door as instructed by the service staff and waited for 15mins before we were directed by the staff to our seat. At that time, another customer who was queuing with us walked over to the seat assigned to us and sat down. Strangely, the staff did not stop the customer and just asked us to continue waiting. When we waited for another 10mins, the service staff did not pass us the order slip when we were seated until another 10mins later. We wrote our order in the slip and passed it to the same service staff, and she acknowledged it. We were waiting for about 25mins for our food when the same service staff came to our table to pass us another service slip, asking us to write our order again. We told her that we had already placed our order in the previous slip and had passed to her, but she just walked away. We had to walk to the counter to help her find our order slip. By then, we had already waited for 1 hour to have our dinner, but there was nothing served to us including any side dishes. The only thing we had on our table was a bottle of water and 2 cups which were all taken by ourselves.Since the food order was not ‘processed’, we asked if we could cancel our order but was told that the food had already been prepared, and cancellation was not allowed. We waited again for our food.Although we had to wait unnecessarily (an hourdue to the poor service by the staff, no apologies were given.I’m not sure about the food quality but my take is that do only come here if you want to be treated like an idiot throughout your dining experience- all the way from queuing, ordering and waiting for your food.
Long wait, but worth it.Definitely worth a visit (especially as a vegetarian). The food is flavorful and tasty, would definitely eat here again.
We ordered a bit too many dishes, but each of them were delicious! I can personally recommend the jajangmyeon, sweet & spicy chicken, tteok-boki and the cold noodles.
I enjoy the atmosphere and the ambience of the restaurant, decent food with very friendly service, this stuffs deserve a big applause for their hard work. Most of the food are very local, which is great place for people who are curious what Korean locals are eating, plus they are vegan version here.Even the serving table have authentic pine woods floor seats, great experience for foreigners.Pro:Great ambienceClean environmentAuthentic cuisineFriendly staffsThere are Korean and English menuCon:Non, cant think of any
Exceptionally poor service: took >30mins to be served. When we were served, the waiter asked if we had been served then walked away saying we should have been - still not serving us for another 10minutes. Eventually put down the order book for us to write our own order in. Bearing in mind we spoke Korean so language was no barrier. We had to deliver the order book back to the kitchen, and after a long wait where food was served at different times we were given the bill at the same time as the food. We also had to go back to pay the bill ourselves. The food was good but theres many vegan restaurants nearby, this restaurant and its shocking service does not deserve your custom.
One of our favourite vegan restaurants in Seoul and South Korea! 100% recommend eating here at least once or more! Youll want to try everything on the menu! ❤️ They also have a little shop with some vegan items you can take away and cook yourself at your accomodation! Its super good :we are going to miss it here!
Nice vegan food. I was here in 2018, and came again in 2022. Nice to see that the shop is still going strong. The fake / mock meat has good texture. The dishes seem quite close to original, IMO.A definite recommendation.
Probably the best vegan Korean food I have ever had. Very cozy/homey feel. If you are vegan or vegetarian then it’s an absolute must try since everything on menu is 100% vegan
I visited this restaurant twice. The first experience was great on Friday lunch time -> amazing food, friendly waiters and tradicional atmosphere. But the second time was uncomfortable: we were assigned a table and waited ~25 minutes to place an order. While we called the waiter 5 times, she didn’t approach our table. In the meantime, she welcomed and took orders from 3 groups who arrived after us. Also, she cleaned tables while we called her. Since we were hungry (and waited 25 minutes), I went to the cashier desk to place the order myself. The same waiter saw me and refused to take my order again pointing out to a different person inside the kitchen. This second person spoke some English and took my order. I learned that the first waiter didn’t want to interact with me because of the language barrier (we didn’t speak Korean). While I can understand the issue, I would have appreciated that the waiter communicated this to her colleagues so we didn’t have to wait for 25 minutes before placing an order. This experience was weird to me as most waiters don’t speak English in Seoul, but we get along well by pointing at dishes.
One of our favourite meals in South Korea, let alone Seoul. Great traditional Korean dishes made vegan, well priced and good portions. An awesome place to sit and eat with friends. Tasty banchan! Recommend the sweet and spicy chicken, black bean noodles, perilla noodles and the bibimbap! We ate 3 times in a week here 🙂
Excellent vegan food, reasonably priced. Good service
It’s great to be able to try vegan versions of famous Korean meals - we’ve already been to this restaurant twice and are planning to go back again! It’s very good value for money, and delicious! The black bean noodles and dumplings are amazing!
It was nice to find a fully vegan restaurant for my wife. Although Im not Vegan, I do enjoy vegan food and this place was great! Our friends who arent vegan as well also enjoyed themselves as well as their two young kids!Because its Korea, fried chicken is everywhere but my wife doesnt get to eat with us so she finally got to try eating chicken their! It tasted so good!
(Staff does not speak English so you might show them on the menu what you want)Osegye Hyang was my first stop after coming to Korea and it was an excellent choice. A very traditional place with inexpensive authentic vegan Korean dishes. My Recommendation: spicy soft tofu stew, (veganfried chicken and ManduEvery dish comes with a small selection of side dishes that can be refilled once.
I like the idea of vegan foods. The atmosphere and the seasoning is great. The texture between one artificial meat with another is quite the same, there might be need a little improvement.
3 star only because of the bad service. The server was rude and as foreigner it made things harder. She also took our order wrong.we ordered 1 meal but she gave us 2, when we tried to reconfirm she said its 1 meal but charged for 2. However all the unfortunates aside, the food was yummy. Interior was cozy. I will not visit again just because of the bad behaviour
Vegetarian restaurants are hard to come by in Korea, and this Hanok-style Vegetarian cafe does a great job at making vegetarian versions of the Korean cuisine. Its definitely a great alternative for vegetarians or Muslims who would like to try certain Korean dishes. I would recommend the Spicy Tofu Stew and the Bean Paste Stew – I thought that these two dishes taste almost the same as the “regular” versions, or in fact better than some that I have had in Korea. The meals also came with a full set of banchan (side dishesso you know that you are getting your money worth. However, I would say that the attitude of the staff arent great so that its a disappointing note.
This place is one of the most high rated vegan restaurant in Seoul. And this restaurant owned by well-known Korean vegetarian food company, Vegifood. Inside here its a Korean style seating. Food is mostly Korean and Chinese with a few pasta and salad dishes. All the ingredients are NON-GMO, they use handmade soft tofu and what they say is that the use a vegetable broth instead of water. Will recommend you to try their spicy soy meat with vegetables, of course if you are an spicy food lover.
One of the few restaurants in Korea where vegans / vegetarians actually have a choice and it’s not a bibimbap 🤣 The menu is big, portions are good, the price of the traditional dishes are a little higher than one would pay for such a dish at a non-vegan restaurant but it worth overpaying to actually have an opportunity of such a wide choice. The interior is nice, traditional floor seating. The mock meat has a little bit of a weird texture but the taste is very good! The dumplings are my fav!!! Totally recommend! The side dishes are just very very good! The service could have a little improvement but in general it’s a really nice place worth visiting.
Hidden in a laneway in Insadong, this one of the best vegetarian Korean food you will find in the area. Be mindful though when ordering the dishes as they all come with a variety of side dishes and may be a bit too much if you plan to eat less. The taste is really authentic and the fact that they are all vegetarian/vegan makes it easy for those who prefer not to eat the meat/seafood version of Korean food.
Vegan Restaurants with the choice with or without FPH(Five Pungent Herbs)Reasonable Price with delicious taste~
This place is everything. The space and atmosphere are incredibly cozy; the food is excellent, all vegan and cooked in Korean style. Its so good that we ate here several times both at lunch and dinner. We tried almost all the dishes and loved them all. These women really know how to cook vegetables as they should be. The restaurant was opened in the 80s and it shows in the expertise of their cookery. You can tell that the vegan dishes have been thought carefully during all these years to bring to the table something that was highly satisfying for both vegan and non-vegan customers 🖤
Amazing Korean Vegan restaurant. Went back several times to try more dishes. The atmosphere is as homey as the food.
All vegan, traditional Korean food. Welcoming and cozy space. We loved the sweet and spicy chicken. Definitely recommend this spot!
Mixed review here when reading through and we still decided to give it a try. I won’t give a A to the service but it’s not a F. All the staffs are a bit older and I guess that’s how older generation communicate. They are not the super friendly and sociable type, but they are not trying to be rude either. They just want to get their work done. The place is an old traditional setting so take off your shoes and sit on the floor.About the food. Besides the side dish, all really taste fantastic. Love the soup and the noodle. No complain for me as I love both. The soup is full of flavour and the noodle is chewy. They are also generous with the ingredient. The kimchi tasted different. Missing something maybe garlic coz vegetarian doesn’t take garlic.Give this place a try especially the hot soup in a cold weather.
We came here for early dinner and it was great. We liked finally eating some Korean food, as most vegan restaurants in Seoul aren’t Korean. The restaurant itself is very traditional, you take your shoes off and sit on the floor. The menu is pretty extensive. We got gyozas, bibimbap and bbq meat rice. It came very fast. The taste was good and it was affordable. Portions were very very big, which is great.Definitely recommend if you want to eat vegan Korean food!
Vegans!!! Y’all have to check this place out. I ordered the Katsu and Mandoo. Both were very tasty. The only thing i regret was getting 2 fried items but whatever I’m on vacation.Service was decent and food came out quickly. You sit on the floor (traditional Korean style). This place was really hard to find but i posted pictures of the outside so hopefully it helps. It’s not on a main road so that’s why it was a bit difficult.
Having read the reviews, we were really excited to visit this restaurant for our first dinner in Korea. Unfortunately, I did not recognise the restaurant I had read so much about.I ordered a BBQ dish with rice and vegetables. The flavour was adequate, but the presentation was really poor and the dish didnt look particularly appetising. The side dishes were fine. However, my girlfriends dish was horrendous - it was the sesame soup. The picture showed an orangey coloured soup garnished with peppers, chilis etc. What arrived was a light grey sludge with absolutely no flavour and an awful texture. It really was one of the worst meals Ive ever seen served in a restaurant and I cannot believe this made it out of a kitchen.Sitting on the floor was very uncomfortable - I understand its traditional and if the food was great it probably wouldnt have mattered but I really didnt like this either. The service was around average or below, but Im unsure of their level of English so of course I wont hold that against them.If you are vegan, traditional Korean restaurants will be hard for you, so this may be the only place you can try traditional Korean food. If thats the case, by all means try this place and maybe youll have better luck - our experience certainly seems to be in the minority - but dont get your hopes up too high.
Very good restaurant with a cheap price in a heart of Insadong. Good place for muslim as they serve 100% vegan food and no alcohol added into the food. Price is very reasonable as well.
The food was so good, there was so much of it we couldnt finish it all. I dont know if we dont know normal prices but for us the amount of food and the quality was definitely excellent value
This was by far the most interesting Vegan restaurant Ive ever been to in Seoul. The food is really good, and even as a meat lover, I would eat here again. The food is pricy and the portions are small, though, so be warned. Also, ignore the TV. Or watch it. Its entertaining, though not for the right reasons.TL:DR - Food is awesome, just dont drink the kool-aid.
Nice spread of shareable dishes for a decent price. I was really excited to finally have jjajangmyeon since the real one has pork in it. This one had the right look, but also an oddly familiar taste I couldnt put my finger on. Then my friend and I realized it tastes like Chef Boyardee pasta. Whether its spaghetti or ravioli, all canned pasta has the same essence and this veg jjajangmyeon sauce had that essence for some reason. Idk if thats a complaint or warning or just information. The real downside was the staff. I think there are stickers in the window touting what a foreigner favorite the restaurant is, yet the staff doesnt really speak English and seems annoyed that most of its clientele does. The older woman who served us also kept passive-aggressively trying to get my friend and I to leave after wed mostly finished our meal. There was no line of customers waiting for an available table and still an hour left before closing, so Im not sure what the hurry was, but she removed most of the empty dishes, then came back and wiped the table down, then came back to remove some small pieces of trash and almost threw out my friends cough drops that shed momentarily laid on the table, and mumbled something in Korean that didnt seem to mean "take your time." Maybe we shouldnt have been charging our phones in a nearby socket? Im not sure why she was so perturbed, but that made the whole meal not settle well with me. Prob wont go again.
Great vegan Korean restaurant, tucked in an end of small street. Thanks to Google for helping to find this one. Language will be a problem, some of them could understand only Korean. Many customers were non Koreans.Enjoyed the ambience inside
Absolutely fantastic food and Solomons seal tea! Try the vegan Korean bbq! On arrival youll be asked to take your shoes off and the tables are on the floor so maybe not the best if for people with mobility issues
100% veganAs a muslim, sometimes is quite a challenge to find halal food when we travel abroadThankfully when I traveled to South Korea back in september 2017, I got a coupon book about halal restaurant weekAnd I got to know this restaurantOsegyehang is located in insadong, but rather in a narrow pathThe taste is amazing, actually I never eat vegetarian food before, so I was surprisethe interior feels like typical traditional Korean restaurant in Kdrama, we sit on the floor with a cushion and legs under low tableEven though this restaurant is not halal certified but Osegyehang only serve vegan food, so its safe for us as a muslimAnd its delicious,So I highly recommend it, especially when you visit InsadongJust prepare a map so you wont get lost
What an experience!!Hidden behind a vibrant City market area and down a short, narrow pathway is this gem of a Vegan restaurant. On offer were Vegan versions of all the famous Korean dishes, and rather than trying to create a like for like, the two ladies running the Restaurant go out of their way to create something tasty while being obviously vegan, plant based and healthy.Although for me this is not a negative, be aware that the seating arrangement for this restaurant is traditional and therefore on a cushion on the floor with your legs under a low table. Might not be for everyone and those with bad back/trouble getting up.The noodles and other dishes that can be made large, are exactly that and are definitely a good idea for sharing.Be sure to try the soy cutlet style dish if you like spice, and the gyoza style dumplings are wonderful and filled with flavour both inside and on the glazed outside.Tea and water are free, however they also offer soda/beer and other drinks.Just as I’ve found and other Korean only Vegan establishments, there are posters and other info on what veganism means, it’s affect on the planet and the ethos behind the diet choice.Top Marks!! A must visit if in town.
Really stressful getting in and out taking off the shoes and getting conflicting messages on where to put my suitcase. Mushroom thing was ok, really stinky shiitakes which I usually love but the gochhujang sauce tasted kinda burned? The Katsu salad was good but didn’t come with rice and all in all was a very pricey meal that didn’t satisfy me. No one spoke English and my question about whether it came with rice threw everyone for a loop and they ended up not taking our order for a while. Also they had a big shrine to that lady who owns Loving Hut
Really nice began and vegetarian food in the Insadong area. A little tucked away from the main Street, but definitely worth finding. The food is plentiful and delicious, they have varied options and it is easy to order here if you are vegetarian, because everything on the menu is vegetarian. The food is reasonably priced, from around 9,000-13,000 won and is quite filling. If you arent full, you can also ask for a refill on the side dishes at no extra charge. There is only a very short wait, and they are happy to seat only one person (sometimes a problem in Korea). In all, this is a restaurant that is convenient, well priced, completely vegetarian and has delicious food.
In a matter of 4 days in Seoul I became a regular at this restaurant. The Korean BBQ and spicy tofu soup were my favorite and absolutely delicious. Highly recommend even if you are a meat eater.
Great traditional Korean ambiance, awesome food and good prices. Im usually a heavy meat eater but the Vegetarian BBQ was absolutely amazing, theyve perfected the fake meat. Menu selection isnt that big but thats not a bad thing. Hit the spot. Would highly recommend!
