Mainstay in Tennōji Park housing 200-plus species in varied habitats, from savanna to rainforest.
Entrance fee is only 500 yen but you get your moneys worth. Meet red pandas and cute active polar bear who loves to jump into water. Great fun.
The most inhumane and abusive zoo i have ever visited. The zoo is surrounded by fancy luxury shops. The zoo itself is spacious and clean. The dirty and extremly small cages the animals were put in, the mental problems and health issues these animals show is extremly heartbreaking. This NEEDS TO CHANGE!
All the monkeys were in super small cages and screaming due to stress. They looked bored and sad out of their minds. The bears were in distress and walking back and forth in the small enclosure. It was very heartbreaking to see. This is inhumane and needs to change now. I cant believe it.
Cheap tickets, JPY$500 per person. It’s not a big zoo, around two hours if you stop at every single animal. It’s very well organized, the route is quite simple. Most of the feeding shows are around 3:00pm to 4:00pm. There’s shows with the polar bears, sea lions, and wolves, all of them quite active and interesting.
Quiet little zoo. Better than Ueno Zoo but not better than some Zoo s in Germany. If you get the choice to see the Osaka aquarium or the zoo go for the aquarium.
Very cheap, some nice exhibits, but it would be nicer if the big cats and birds of prey had more space
They have lot of animals, a good place to go.
An amazing place with a plethora of things to see right from aquatic animals to land dwelling ones.Giraffe, lions, wolves, birds of different species, fishes, crocodile, reptiles, penguins.Theres a restaurant so food and drinks can be availed of.A souvenir shop to take away some good memrobilia.Theres also a museum with animal mannequins. You need a full day to enjoy at the zoo.
* Tennoji Zoo:Tennoji Zoo is located in Tennoji-koen Park, and attracts over 1.5 million visitors annually. It’s one of the oldest zoos in Japan, and is home to over 1000 animals across 230 types.1. Price:* Adult - (500 yen).* Junior high / elementary school student - (200 yen).2. Hours:* [9:30 - 17:00] | (Last entry 16:00).* May to September - [9:30 - 16:00].
Though with very limited time, I manage to see hippopotamus, rhinoceros, lion, tiger, hyena giraffe and other animals from Africa. A number of birds are present too. I will return again to see other animals present in the zoo.
The entrance ticket is only 500¥ for an adult. Have quite activities to do during day. Can linger in the zoo for hours. The location is great as it is pretty close to the television tower which you can go up and enjoy the view after the zoo.
The zoo itself is in good condition and attractive overall. The selection of animals is excellent and the facilities are clean. However, many animals enclosures are too small. There are glass cages which are maybe the size of four cars, and which house a single wolf or leopard. Those animals are either frantically running in circles (since wolves need to run through a large areal by natureor sit still in visible resignation. Many animals looked desolate and desparate, likely because they did not have space to move around. The zoo itself has great potential but a lot of the enclosures are nothing short of animal cruelty. Also, just in case you didnt know, they have no elephant.
A nice quaint zoo with a diverse range of animals. Prices are very affordable, with special rates for kids/students up till Junior High Level (16/17 years old), which is why there are plenty of them to be seen. One of the main attractions is the petting zoo, where you can buy feed to give the Noma Horses and some of the other animals, there will usually be a line for that though!
You can take plenty of time to enjoy cute animals. Zoo was very clean and organized.
Really well appointed zoo. Easy to navigate, viability great for most animals and very reasonably priced at 500 yen for adults and 250 for kids.
Zoo is better than I expected , like the bat cave and the penguin area. Some animal have really close contact. Too bad no elephant as it recently pass away.
Adults entrance fees only 500yen and child ony pay 200yen.Spend around 60-90minutes.No animal show as far as i remember.cheap coin park around zoo entrance.Worth go.
Not a bad way to spend some time- its a pretty reasonably priced zoo located close to a train station in the city, but not the best zoo Ive ever been to. Was a bit distressing seeing animals being separated in individual enclosures/being alone, and some exhibits were empty which was a little disappointing, but a good way to spend the afternoon if when nothing else is planned/you are in the area, especially if you have kids.Mouflon were a definite highlight for me
Nice selection of animals & entrance fee is cheap but seems they aren’t kept in good condition. Zoo is not well maintained and clean at all. Been to many zoo`s in Japan but this zoo is Osaka is not good at all.
Nice to stroll around as relatively quiet, but cages seem too small for most animals. The most disappointing was seeing the polar bear on painted-white rocks
Around this zoo is smell like the animals near beside you. And exactly in front of the zoo there is food shop area called Shinsekai. You must eat the okonomiyaki, takoyaki or some kind of food that sold there because the taste is so yummy and cheap compared it in Tokyo.
Nice sized zoo. Looks like theyre expanding to improve. Not too crowded to take time to enjoy. Lots of families (including grandparentsand young couples. Overheard announcements on the sound system in several languages, including English events happening in the park (feeding of animals to view). There was even entertainment which drew a large crowd.
It was painful walking there but it was worth it. Amazing pass covered it. So many different animals. Was impressed.
Ive been told it was a relatively less-maintained (by Japanese standardsattraction. To some extent they are true; a few less-known animals are unavailable, but perhaps the largest loss is the elephant. But I still find it enchanting. They have different sections with different themes such as Reptiles, African Savannah, Arctic, Aviary etc. They also have rhinos and lions and giraffes and bats and mountain goats and flamingos and sea otters and black bears and polar bears and penguins various brightly colored monkeys and birds. Its still among the best of the zoos Ive visited.
A free tourist spot of Kansai Amazing Pass. The environment is nice to have a walk but not very good to the animals. You can try your luck with 1000 yen at the entrance of the zoo, the best prize is a big raccoon plushie!
Cheap admission, many attractions, clean bathrooms, and many choices of snacks and souveniers. The place is very clean and well kept and the staff is very friendly and helpful. There are many animals to see from many parts of the planet. Many I didnt even know about and some that made me smile because I see them in Final Fantasy (lol). All in all a very good experience, definitely a must if in Osaka!
Its a very old zoo with lots of interesting history. Renovations and additions are taking place, but many areas still feel dated. The zoo is not full by any means. Some of the animals appeared agitated. Its tough to see some of them kept in such confined spaces. Only 500 yen.
Relaxing to walk in the zoo with garden/park concept. Able to see the big tiger closely. Everyone is awed with that coz usually we can only see tigers from far. May be not that much variety of animals here but we had great time chilling here. Btw another thing i enjoyed seeing here are the cute japanese children. Their behaviors and interactions with the parents are so adorable.
Great Zoo. A bit small no skimping on the fun. Enjoyed myself. And best part is was only $5!
This was the worst zoo Ive ever been to. Almost every animal was placed in severely undersized habitats with shockingly dirty, algae filled water. I couldnt even stand to be in this zoo longer than half an hour. After witnessing, the overcrowded bat enclosure and general uncleanliness of the tiny nocturnal animal enclosures my heart sank. I was absolutely appalled to see a bear pacing in circles inside its tiny enclosure- in obvious, heart breaking discomfort. I cannot fathom how this zoo has received positive reviews or how it remains open.
Not so big zoo so you can spend only a few hours to walk around. Many families with small children visit on weekend.
You can have nice experience in Tennnoji zoo of Osaka. A lot of the animals such as tiger, flamingo, lion, white and black bears, hippo, etc. Nice location very closer subway station. Especially, price is reasonable. (500yen / if you can enjoy 1day card that 350yenI was so happiness time.
Really out of date. A lot of animals are bored and are living in a environment that is just too smal. Maintenance is low. There are enough toilets troughout the zoo. Some animals are more special than others, especially if you are from Europe, like the grey heron, these are just everywhere in the normal landscape. The Kiwi is nice, so is the red panda. And there are two rhinocerus who play with each other that is joyfull to see.
The zoo is definitely huge. Able to see polar bear, koala bear, and tiger in real close (30 cm apart). Overall the experience is good.
Its over my expectation! There are quite a number of animals. You can enjoy yourself there with Osaka amazing pass.
A really well organized zoo in the heart of osaka. Its not big but has most of the animals that a good zoo should have ranging from animals in savanna to polar bears.Information signages have English language. Zoo is clean and tidy, toilets are clean and well-maintained. You wont get starve since they have variety of foods to choose from.Sadly the elephant passed away in January 2018, hope they can replace a new one soon.
Medium sized zoo Looks not exciting But there is one exciting thing. You can see the tiger in close proximity. Its very big, awesome.
I liked the zoo and Im not 100% sure if my experience wasnt as great as Id hoped because of the weather. It was cold and cloudy, but the first exhibit we saw was the chimpanzee. There was only one sitting out on a branch with its arms wrapped around itself for warmth. So my first impression was not good. The only animal that was outside who seemed to enjoy being outside was the polar bear. There were also many cages/exhibits that were empty such as the owl and elephant exhibits. The elephant exhibit actually had a sign posted stating the elephant had passed away...a year ago.The others animals that were there were fine other than being forced to stay outside in the cold (especially those like the chimpanzee who are from much warmer climates).Overall, it was a decent zoo, it just needs a little life brought into it. With that being said, my daughter and I agreed that wed come back in the spring to see if weather makes a difference.
This is the saddest zoo Ive ever seen. It looks like a post-apocalyptic zoo where one person still feeds the animals to keep them alive. All the mammals looked really stressed, the enclosures were almost all concrete and tiny, and there was no enrichment in any of the enclosures. Come here if you want to be sad. Go to the Osaka Aquarium if you want to see animals.
Went from 12 pm to closing on a weekday in January. There were no crowds which was really nice. Also, the animals were all awake and came close for pictures. A great way to spend a few hours!
Nice zoo, decent selection of animals. They have an oddly large Koala enclosure, compared to other enclosures in the zoo (e.g. The tiny tiger enclosure). Zoo was clean. Great for families as there is a petting zoo (check times in advance, some days require advanced reservations to interact with the smaller animals). Washrooms aplenty.
Adult 500 yen, preschool child free. Good place to take kid there. Can feed sheep, 100 yen to buy feed food. Elephant died last year, can’t see elephant.
An amazing zoo for such a cheap price!! We went on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn’t too crowded at all, saw a bunch of animals as well! Would love to come back if we get to visit Osaka again! 思った以上素晴らしかった!
Amazing Zoo! You are very near the animals. They have lions, penguins, red pandas, birds, nocturnal animals, monkeys, a rhino, hippos and even more! It is not a big zoo and you can complete it in 2 to 3 hours. For the value it offers, the price is incredible. A must see if you are near Tennoji! Enjoy!
It seems like a good place to hang out a little. Not for a whole day though. It is not the biggest zoo. The main reason I cannot give a lot of stars is the animals cage conditions. Just looking at the sad polar bear made me feel bad (see picture). I think since its now 2018, people should be better aware of animal welfare. Zoos will never be good for especially exotic non-domestic animals but at least do your best to give them space and friends. (And at some point, dont build zoos anymore...)Okay but the sitting places and food options etc looked good. Friendly personnel etc. Entry fee was 500 yen.
A convenient and spacious zoo. Well located and easily accessible. Cheap admission and a great place to take kids the only drawback was that a few exhibits were either scaled back or closed. If not for that I would give a higher rating.
Small zoo but good to take kids here. Can walk around easy. Not many kind of animal. Its ok goodplace
Its a good place to visit for part of your day, good place to bring kids. They have exhibits for many animals. The place is well kept and they have food stands.
Large variety of animals easy to get around. Some areas not accessible for wheelchairs. Some of the animals didnt look to healthy😯
More than anything else I was impressed by the dedication of the staff and management of the zoo. It seemed as if they were determined to showcase the animals and their zoo the best they could. Ive been to some terrible zoos (think south Americawith cramped, dirty enclosures and disinterested staff, but there was none of that here. The zoo is obviously working within a budget however its clean, the animals seem engaged & the staff are enthusiastic, whether its conducting a show or entertaining kids. It should also be said also that the cost of entry is just Y500 yen - super reasonable.
