Orrery in Qarāwul
Description
Privilege
I have been going to this restaurant for many years and it was a real favourite of mine. However I have to say that last night the experience was not a pleasant one, in fact a disappointing one.For a start we were given a really big round table, so big that we could hardle hear each other. It’s hard to have a good conversation when you can’t hear the people in front of you. I had booked 10 days before so it’s not like we showed up the last minute….we asked to change to a different table but we were told that it was not possible. Our table was for 10 people at least and we were 6. This was quite upsetting. Then the choice of food on the menu was really not appealing. Starters: Chicken parfait….bufala mozzarella…I took the the mozzarella and I was served a whole mozzarella with on top tasteless cubes of apple which were not even cooked well…they were still too raw. I would say uneventful if I want to be polite….I do really wonder who tastes the dishes?Mains: beef wellington, seabass…..venison. I choose the seabass, which I have eaten there dozens of times over the years, enjoining every single one of them. This time it was really not good. A sort of boiled seabass filet with a tomato sauce on top (by the way….people don’t eat boiled fish skin…a zucchini flower full with goat cheese which was not really well cooked and a purée of somekind with a taste that did not mix well. A terrible combination. It was a dish you expect in a simpler Italian restaurant where they put tomatoes on everything. Tomato (pesto…they called iton a boiled fish frankly is not a refined dish.At my table other people had other mains - bit of mix results there too. The little lentil scamorza pre appetizer they gave us was nothing short of disgusting….no taste….I wonder if the chef action tastes what is being served? Please do…lack of salt….lack of taste….The service, which is normally impeccable, was disappointing too.A very upsetting thing was this: It was my son’s birthday last night. I had called at 11am the restaurant to ask if they could serve at the end of the meal to everyone a mix of sorbets as dessert adding a Happy birthday chocolate sign on his plate so we could celebrate. The lady who answered the phone said…yes no problem. However Nothing arrived at the table exept for a single lonely sad plate for my son with some praline and Happy birthday. All the remaining 5 people had nothing. Really upsetting. The waiters were running back and forth next to us…as our table was the closest to the kitchen and I tried to ask to at least two of them about my sorbet request….nothing happened. I am quite cross about this. It was a little family celebration and it felt like they were all too busy to care for us.I did see a cake with a candle going back and forth to another table….so maybe it was just our party who were totally forgotten. The very sad, somewhat not cold??, clementine sorbet I managed to order in the end was just the appropriate end to a very mediocre but quite expensive meal. Something to forget quickly and not to repeat anytime soon.I am actually quite sad. I spent so many evenings and lunches at this special place in Marylebone but I doubt I will go back. Bad food, mediocre service and expensive price do not really make you run there. Something is not right in this restaurant right now please fix it soon!
MoreAwesome food. Excellent value for money too. Service second to none. Come give it a try....
MoreI’ve been fortunate to eat at this wonderful restaurant about 5 times now and I’m never disappointed. Superb staff, fabulous Sommelier and an always superb menu. One of the reasons about Orrery I love is one never feels rushed and a meal with friends, lunch or dinner, always feels like a special occasion.Thank you Orrery Team!Xx
MoreThe best restaurant! 🤍🤍🤍 very accommodating. Nice helpful staff.Food - another level! If you are boring of every day the same restaurant- go to Orrery. Food can taste different! Slava Ukraini!
MoreLovely atmosphere and menu but spoiled by serving cold food and having to send my meal back whilst my wife was left to carry on with her meal. For this standard of restaurant I had expected to eat together and to be served food that was hot and to a better quality that I can achieve at home. Whilst the staff were pleasant and apologetic these basic errors were very disappointing. What does a Michelin star mean after all?
MoreAtttended 1st November. Nice restaurant, clean, good attentive and weel planned service. Let down was the food, was quite bland, declined dessert as first two courses of starters Lobster Bisque & Onion Tart and mains of Mushroom Rissoto & Salmon were a big dissapointment. We had walked the 45 minutes to the restaurant to work up an appetite but all was in vain. Sorry but we wont be recommending the Orrery to friends.
MoreHad a lovely time with friends at Orrery. The food was delicious and the view was fantastic. The wine selection is so good. It really didn’t disappoint.
MoreWhat an amazing place! I came with my aunt and uncle on what turned out to be their wedding anniversary. My aunt has a very tricky diet - no gluten, soy, dairy, black pepper etc. The chef invented two courses for her on the spot, and then as the piece de resistance produced a Happy Anniversary plate with food she could eat. All done with such good grace and impeccable service. So impressed!
MoreJust the best place weve ever been - Food, service, omg you have not had Lamb until youve had it here Medium rare as recommended by the chef, superb jazz like Billy Taylor, superb wine suggestions from Carolina. Something special!
MoreDelicious food and wine. Great atmosphere and fantastic, attentive service. 100% recommended.
MoreMy wife and I had some of the best food I’ve ever had here! My steak was perfectly cooked, the wine was absolutely fantastic, and the atmosphere was superb! We will be back! Very classy establishment, make sure you dress to impress!
MoreSimply my favorite restaurant in London. Elegant setting, amazing food and the best service anywhere. Always delivers.
MoreThe food was Amazing the service from the staff was 5*****, I eat in a lot of high end restaurants and have to say this is in my top two. There was nothing other than excellence throughout our time while eating and drinking. The wines were fantastic including the desserts wine which was amazing. 5***** throughout.
MoreAsked the Langham Hotel team for a dinner recommendation for a French restaurant and they suggested the Orrery. We opted for the tasting menu and every dish was superb. The wine list is excellent and the staff, professional, engaging and funny. What a fantastic night and team, thank you all.
MoreWe had a lovely dining experience here for lunch. Restful, attentive and fabulous food, served stylishly with wit and élan by Andrea.
MoreLunched on three occasions with friends in parties of two, five and nine and enjoyed every moment, both inside the restaurant and on the terrace. Such a nice venue and amazingly peaceful so near the Marylebone Road. Food was excellent across the whole menu and we must have tried all the dishes and various wines between us. Service and staff of the highest standard. I cannot speak too highly of The Orrery - go there and discover its many charms for yourself.
MoreDelightful place for a spot of food in Marylebone. The venue is beautiful with indoor and outdoor seating and staff friendly.Only criticism is value for money for equivalent restaurants in the area. The prices are Michelin starred however they arent there yet with the food.
MoreExcellent room for lunch - very light and bright, with a nice outlook. The 3 course set menu was excellent value - food very tasty, and well presented. Wine is a little toppy of course but you can find some value - we received excellent advice from the sommelier. Service was good and there was no rush - a peaceful place and well worth a visit. We shall return.
MoreWe had a fabulous dinner at the Orrery in July. It was a hot evening and there was space to sit on the terrace which was lovely. The food and service were both excellent. I can highly recommend the chocolate dessert. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they were very engaging. An excellent evening .
MoreHad lunch today, the burrata was one of the worst I had in my life. The texture was off and it was more like goats milk and was sour. I had the artichoke risotto that was just ok. My husband had the tenderloin forgetting the jus which they brought out after 10 mins from serving the plate. What a joke..
MoreThe staff was great, the food was of good quality, the beef rump was perhaps a little bland, and the chocolate roux dessert was colourful and rich, overall a good dine. For the price you pay however I believe there is a large number of restaurants that provide a better palette for a similar price
MoreThe Orrey is an elegant, smart and beautiful restaurant. Where you are welcomed by the astounding interior you are also met with well cooked and well thought out food. A lot of great French flavours and modern takes on familiar dishes. The food on the menu is fairly light without filling you up to the point of defeat. You are left feeling satisfied with the food wether you chose the tasting menu or individual items with cocktails or wine pairings. I highly recommended this place to come and dine with friends and family on a special occasion.
MoreFar from the quality that I expected for this price range. I guess it ok for the yanks. Waiting staff came from Giraffe or something similar establishment oh and the red wine was warm and over fermented e. g. undrinkable. Food was ok hence the 3 starts but I will never coming back here.
MoreExcellent service. It is a great spot for special occasions, yet it is not obnoxious or overpriced. The food is refined and the wine list doesn’t disappoint. The terrace was a nice surprise. An absolute neighbourhood gem!
MoreFantastic team lunch at the Orrery. The food was absolutely delicious, lovely attentive but relaxed service and great ambience. Very comfortable on the terrace. Highly recommend.
MoreA wonderful lunch on the terrace. The staff were brilliant in doing everything to make it a special afternoon. The sommelier recommended a fantastic red from Provence.
MoreI was recommended this place via the Michelin guide and the experience itself was pretty good. I think the overall experience would definitely improve if the weather was better as it was 30°C and there was no air conditioning at all. We were seated upstairs and we thought it would be cooler but we were incubating in the sun the whole meal.We all got a 2 course meal with 2 sides. In the attached pictures youll see that we picked the starters, soya marinated salmon, chicken parfait, and lobster raviolo. For the mains we picked, chicken breast, salmon fillet, and the beef wellington. The starters all had a pretty strong salty taste to them that we might not be that used to but the mains were absolutely delicious. We had a bad experience with the lobster raviolo as we found multiple shell pieces. The chicken breast was tender and nicely cooked, the salmon was juicy and the puree complimented it well, the beef wellington honestly had such good flavor just by itself without the puree but with it added it was phenomenal.Another thing we noticed is that the menu shown online is actually different from the menu that we saw in the restaurant so the online version will probably need an update so people can look ahead into what they can order.
MoreHad a lovely two course meal dinner, with good Italian wine. The waiters are really kind, the terrace outside is super cozy with blankets and plants. They are vegetarian friendly.
MorePretty disappointing. The staff and atmosphere were excellent. The food is quite regular in relation quality price. I ordered the buffalo mozzarella for starter which was average, then for second I selected the sea bass which was barely acceptable. My partner ordered the raviolo with lobster which was the only expetional dish. Also keep in mind that you will have to pay a supplement of 12 pounds. In general, the experience was quite disappointing, it does not honor the great French cuisine.
MoreThoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Orrery on the Terrace. Food quality, taste and presentation, atmosphere and service were excellent. Our server Andrea deserves special mention for his knowledge, professionalism and helpfulness.First visit for my guest who loved it. .The terrace was comfortable and warm with cushions and blankets provided if needed.
MoreI had an excellent lunch at the restaurant on Tuesday this week. The food, wine and service were all first rate. The fixed prices for two or three courses are good value considering the very high standard of the food and the menu options. The wine was also not eye wateringly expensive which it so often is at top restaurants.
MoreWe went for a birthday dinner for my boyfriend and our son. I was worried about bringing a young child to a fine dining restaurant in the evening but the staff were so hospitable and lovely. The waitress Joanna made him so comfortable and entertained him... Julio gave him a sweet... and did I mention the food was great. All in all a lovely birthday.
MoreThe service here was excellent, the staff were very attentive and helpful. The amuse bouche cauliflower was fantastic, my main of brasied beef was nice, but the starter of salmon gravlax was quite underwhelming, lacking flavour. The automatic £2 donation felt a bit cheeky as we werent told before receiving the bill it would be on there, and it wouldve come across in better spirits if the restaurant matched it. I struggled between a 3 or 4 for this, but overall it was just a 4. Food was overall to a good standard but there are definitely better places for the same money.
Morehad a very nice experience here! the atmosphere is very comfortable and the service is very good! my favourite was the dessert - the cake was so soft and moist and it accompanied with the zesty ice cream was perfect! would come again!
MoreOutstanding. Stunning food, great value for money and wonderful service. Can’t recommend highly enough.
MoreGreat service and a wonderful meal, we had a 3 course meal with paired wine followed up with a lovely cheese board. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, would really recommend!
MoreLovely classical French food, couldnt fault any dish however is on the expensive side for comparable French restaurants around
MoreFood is really good. 3 course meal at £60. Wide range of choice on wine list. Service is ok. You can have a drink before meal at the bar.Nicely decorated restaurant with non-pretentious service.Food 9/10, service 8/10, ambience 9/10, value for money 8/10. Excellent French restaurant.
MoreGreat french cuisine, but nothing mind-blowing. The atmosphere is nice and ita location is quite good.Went for a Thursday night dinner.Drinks are ok, quite classic and not much of modern takes.Wine menu is wide and theres a sommelier in house, who was nice and friendly, but not very helpful.Food is really good, but after living in France, I cant say its comparable to high french cuisine. The seafood ravioli was probably the best out there. Lamb and Beef wellington dishes were quite good as well. All other were kind of plain. Desserts are good, nothing too amazing.
MoreI celebrated my birthday here yesterday and I have to say I had the loveliest time ever .The staff is very friendly and helpful ,always trying their best to make you feel welcome and looked after and the food its excellent. After the long lockdown this was our first day eating out and Orrery was our first choice ,always 5 *,thank you .
MoreThis was our first post lockdown meal. The food was fantastic, we shared the lamb shoulder as a main. The seafood ravioli, lobster bisque was good, but there was a fish bone in the ravioli, which was only a minor issue so was not brought to the attention of the staff. The overall environment was nice and the staff were attentive. We were sat very close to the service station, which felt very ‘busy’. The outdoor area feels quite cosy, but I would suggest more heating if possible for those not sat directly underneath the heating.
MoreAnother restaurant that does the Covid social measures superbly. Each set of cutlery has been sterilised and packed in a separate pack.Amazing value for lunch and dont miss the rooftop terrace in the summer
MoreWhy have I never dined here previously? Exceptional service - such a wonderful team of courteous staff. The food made my soul happy ~ I left Orrery feeling emotionally restored! Elegant, stylish, sophisticated, posh - but not snobby or stuck up.
MoreI finally got to visit this much recommended restaurant. And I was not disappointed. The ambience is very soothing and the staff attentive. I really liked the bright interiors. I sat jndoors as it wS raining outside. I could see they have some terrace seating as well. The highlight was definitely the food. I had the seafood ravioli in lobster bisque for starters, braised lamb for main and elderflower panna cotta. All courses were delicious. I especially enjoyed the lamb which was very flavoursome.
MoreBeautiful setting, good service and variety of menus to choose from. All the dishes we had were nice except the turbot was under seasoned and tasted sweet with the pear. It’s a bit of a shame because the fish itself was cooked perfectly. Plenty of drinks to choose from and the desserts were all nicely presented. Would definitely go back again!
MoreVisited the Orrery in Marylebone for a fancy schmancy pre Christmas dinner. Had some of the most delicious French food Ive had to date, and luckily theres a set menu which is only £40 for a 3 course meal and includes a Bellini and amuse bouche 😋Pictured first is the mushroom risotto with vegetable crisps which had the perfect texture and combination of flavours but so heartbreakingly oversalted.Next the mozzarella, pear & truffle honey starter which was delicious but almost tasted like a dessert due to the fruit and honey.Pictured third is the braised beef a la borderlaise which was rich, and you could really taste the red wine in the meat. Accompanied by perfectly cooked vegetables and potato purée to balance the flavours. In the 4th photo, my mum ordered the fish from the a la carte menu which was more than twice the price of the set menu. Filet of turbot, pear & jus gras. All in all some delicious dishes, and generally good service. The staff were all lovely but it took them a long time to bring menus everyyime, which I found odd.
MoreHad a really lovely meal here, as both the service and ambience were excellent. We went for the Evening Standard meal, and along with the fresh warm bread and pre starter was a perfect amount of food. Highly recommended hidden gem.
MoreLunch at @the_orrery is such an incredible experience! Their menu is a complete bargain. The food is full of flavours. The venue is simply beautiful due to its huge windows and thought-through decor. You are treated like a princess/prince, because the staff is very friendly and professional. Very pleasant and surprise central place to have lunch or dinner at. I would definitely recommend it for dates. Get a place next to the window!
MoreWe had a wonderful time at the Orrery! We enjoyed a really good cocktail to start before going for the « à la carte » menu. The food was overall very good (highly recommend the wellington beef!and the service impeccable. Finally the atmosphere of the place is really relax, yet chic. Really simple design, lots of space and really lovely furniture.
MoreJust love this place. Great value. Cozy shop. Delicious food. Will come back again soon.
