Orkneyinga Saga Centre - Museum in Kirkwall, United Kingdom
Some interesting information and presentation. Free entrance, no queue and toilets near Orphir. Downside, there is a slight musty smell and not much to see. The information boards are a little bit "school project".
Nice little exhibition with intentional or unintentional humour. Pretty sure they used famous people with draw on beards in their big viking family tree on purpose.
Nice little display about the Vikings. Video presentation was sound only when we visited☹️
History of the Earls of Orkney. The "family tree" is very amusing - youll know what I mean when you see it 😁.
Closed in 2021 but open now. Free exhibition and a film about the Vikings in Orkney. Also toilets! If you follow the footpath from the cemetery then you can get to the beach
Kleines Museum über die Zeit der ersten Wikinger auf den Orkneys. Mit Fundament eines Versammlungshauses und den Resten einer Rundkirche.
This centre provides background information on the Saga as a literary form as well as information about the Orkneyinga saga specifically and the major characters. Most of the reviews have not highlighted the awesomeness that was the genealogy display for the saga. In retrospect, all Earls of Orkney descending from Nicholas Cage makes total sense. Im not sure why it isnt always shown that way. I was hoping to find someone to contact for a key to the other portraits, but was unable to. The four vs. five stars is largely because it is not staffed, so there is no one to discuss the information with or to answer questions.
Great . And recently refurbished
Interesting film, handy toilets and kept the rain off! Very useful!
Kul att få ta del av sagan på ett så informativt sätt!
Very good impression of the Orkney Saga with a video presentation
This attraction has a toilet which is useful. Its also free to visit. Inside the centre it is small, musty and dated. There is not a lot to see outside. You may enjoy it if you are really really into vikings.
A wonderful place to visit, one of Orkneys hidden treasures. A short walk and you can be on the shore line.
Did not have time to take in all info but looks to be s good source of info on Icelandic and Scandinavian influence on Orkney
Place to ourselves when we visited. Free to enter and donations accepted. The centres a bit dated and flat but outside is great.
Un poco desangelado, el video esta bien. El centro podría contar más cosas de forma más atractiva porque el libro lo merece
No val la pena visitar-lo
The display of the family tree of the Earls of Orkney in the Orkneyinga Saga made me laugh out loud. Excellent!
Well worth a look. They have a Viking family tree, but some of the faces may be familiar. Nicely laid out and with nice clean loos to boot!
Has that local Orkney vibe and charismatic wee film about Vikings. Completely free but donations welcome. Well worth a visit.
A well constructed and maintained museum and historical site that is more than a little out of the way and not at all easy to find. Among the islands wealth of archiolgical treasures this Orkneying Saga Center stands out with respect to cultural heritage perspective.
Fantastic historical Orcadian Viking site and Centre
Near the ruin of an oval viking church. A place for dreaming about the adventurous past of the men of the North.
